I'd like to gather community suggestions on the best way to organize PvP events. I'm not going to sticky this thread, as I want its popularity to be a gauge for the level of interest in these ideas. We'd like to start using the Coluseum for such activities, although when we can get underway will depend greatly on what type of event we choose, and it's level of complexity.
Disclaimer: If you don't think someone's proposal is feasible, please don't waste time flaming it. Limit any feedback to suggestions for improvements, or your own alternative model.
1 on 1
This is where the biggest organizational challenge lies. Obviously, you'd have to categorize such a tournament by level and class to make things even remotely fair. Separating level groups by equipment grade availability seems to be a natural division point, but in all reality, does a level 20 stand a chance against a level 39 (both falling into the D Grade category)?
So, what would interest you folks? Non-categorized match-ups where anyone can fight anyone regardless of level and class? Or highly categorized systems featuring nukers vs nukers, or tanks vs. tanks? Feel free to propose any model you can think of.
If we were to sort it by level, what level distributions would create fair and challenging match-ups? Would you like to see it all done in a single event, or in phases stretched out over time?
group vs. group
Here we have to worry about level distribution a little bit less, I think, due to the fact that smart party formation can make up the difference in being slightly lower level than a group of opponents. But still, there's a lot of room for fine-tuning. Would you like to see 5 on 5? 9 on 9?
Clan vs. Clan obviously comes to mind. But should that be seperated into categories as well? Like level 1 vs. level 1 only?
And think about prize structure. Should the prize be static, or based on how many survivors are left in the winning group?
Player(s) vs. Mobs
Coluseum fighting often pitted warriors against beasts. Why not do that here? GMs could spawn a sequence of increasingly difficult mobs, and players (solo or in groups) could see how many they could take down before being overwhelmed. The difficulty of the sequence would be relative to the level of the player, with the reward based on how many mobs were killed. Maybe something like this:
So what 10 mobs would be challenging to fight consecutively? Rememeber, we need lists by level, and by whether it will be one player vs one mob, or groups vs. groups of mobs. The prize structure is PURELY HYPOTHETICAL at this point. Feel free to suggest your own. It need not be adena, either. It could be enchant scrolls, or rare mats, etc.
Battle Royale
This idea is the simplest of the bunch. Simply fill the arena until everyone is shoulder to shoulder and then have everyone go at it. Last person standing wins. You can help gang up on one person, then turn on your allies the next second. If you die and someone wants to rez you, that's fine. And if you think it would be to your tactical advantage to rez someone, go for it. The only rule is, if you release to town, GM bouncers would make sure you can't run back in. Any thoughts on this concept? Any tweaks necessary?
We already have most of the high-end clan participating with more and more getting onboard as far as the word spreads. If you and/or the NCSOFT team would like to get involved, we would really appreciate it. The participation of the GMs would give our server a much needed boost! :D
If you wish to get some ideas, I suggest you visit the coluseum on Bartz tomorrow morning:
---------------------------
Hiroki: Shortbus once held some fun tournaments on Bartz. Seeing how we are fighting frequently right now and how this usually results in people shouting about zergs, being ganked, unallowed interfering, etc., I thought it might be a nice break from the grind to have a tournament on the coming non-siege weekend.
In order to allow both Europeans and North Americans of all time-zones to play, I suggest the time of:
(Saturday, 2005/01/15)
02:00 pm PST
05:00 pm EST
11:00 pm CET
(23:00 GMT if ya europeans dont know these times so good)
The tournament will be held in the Collosseum and of course there will not be an entry fee. Every clan can register groups (either in this thread or send me a message via [censored].)
Tournament mode is Team Deathmatch
All ingroup buffs are allowed, all classes, all races. Use of potions, rezzing, etc. is admitted. So basically it's free PvP group vs. group.
If at least 4 groups register, the tournament will take place at the time mentioned above. Depending on the number of groups that sign up, it will be single or double elimination.
I hope there will be numerous participants and even more spectators!
Teams registered so far:
Ginnunga
Mixed Nuts
Blue Dragons
Red Knights
ThoR
Vindication

Ya might get some ideas, or even test out some stuff in cooperation with people on bartz :)
That would be interesting, much like the Coliseum of Sanctus Seru had as a quest-event in EQ. For L2, it could be a regular event, signed up for in the manner of a seige. With the proper application of zone-instancing, there could even be several fights going on simulataneously, to be watched live or via Broadcasting towers. Monster difficulty should, of course, be scaled according to the level of the participant... its not exactly fair for a level 25 to be handed a Vanor Silenos or Oblivion's Mirror. Granted, it's mildly amusing to watch such a chance encounter unfold... much like a Discovery Channel Special Edition "Predators: Wolves vs. Fuzzy Bunnies"
Hmm, most of the ideas I can come up with atm all involve either zone-instancing, or a tiered-event sort of thing... perhaps a monthly best-of-the-best event, where the victors of scheduled arena battles move on to challenge the other winners of similar events held over the same period of time, all competing for the big prize at the end of every month.
Alternately, each type of event could take up a week out of the month, with the Battle Royale being held the last Saturday of the month as a Circus Maximus to celebrate another month past and welcome the one to come in a truly Romantic fashion.
Hmm....
Most of these wont take more than a matter of minutes to complete, so, in a month of four weeks, Week 1 could have 100 Player vs Mobs events a day, Week 2 could have 100 1v1 events a day, Week 3 100 Group vs Group events, and Week 4 could be all Battle Royale, all the time.
Wouldnt it be interesting if there was a Valhallan aspect to the arena during this time? Regeneration rates are doubled and the dead are teleported to a sideline and resurrected every 10 minutes (sooner if they click to Aden or receive a rez cast by another character)? This way, it could be a non-stop orgy of carnage from server up to server down! Isn't that a pleasant thought?
If we were to sort it by level, what level distributions would create fair and challenging match-ups? Would you like to see it all done in a single event, or in phases stretched out over time?
That would depend on the classes involved. The way the classes are structured right now, to be fair, any dagger-wielding class engaging in a 1v1 PvP tournament must be no less than 15 levels lower than their opponent, and must start the match both rooted, asleep, and poisoned. Paralyzation is optional, but might need to be implemented to give the opponent a fair-to-middling shot at victory.
If said dagger-user happens to be a Dark Elf, both of their eyes need to be burned out and their hands cut off at the elbows... still, smart money is on the dagger-user.
Separating level groups by equipment grade availability seems to be a natural division point, but in all reality, does a level 20 stand a chance against a level 39 (both falling into the D Grade category)?
Most C-grade classes dont stand a chance against high-D dagger-users, with the exception of perhaps Warcriers and Spellhowlers, in the latter case provided a fair gap of space between the 2.... such as the distance, in kilometers, between Aden and Giran... maybe even Heine.
Definetly a good idea, I especially like the player vs. mobs idea. I think 1v1 is a little un fair for certin classes. A group taking out mobs for rewards sounds like a very good idea.
I think group VS. group would be great to. Of coarse time constraints are a problem and some people will not be able to make it.
I think maybe some kind of pre registration for group vs. group would be a good idea. I would also like to see a 24 hour world wide event go on like the olyimpics but more individual rewards.
If possible, we could also have a sorta zerg event.. where NCsoft spawns a GM-controlled mob, like somethin wierd.. a archer of abyss (the "Archer Spamgol of Aden") with bow of peril and skills from alot of classes like mass root, mass sleep, self heals and stuff, and we players get to try and take it down in a Pv(GM)E fight :)
Korea has a 5v5 thing going on on TV. i think it was clan vs clan tho. but THAT was actually with clans from other servers i think. i like the group idea and the player vs mob.
But plz don't forget to take notice of some of the classes wich are slightly overpowered atm(f.e. daggers) and the hybrid-classes F.e.(warlords) wich would do less good vs mobs.
Also a warlord (or any AoE atts) hit clan mates/party mates too, so if ur planning to organise party/clan pvp events, plz take notice of this.
Last question i have is to also, if u do those events, make them both na/europe friendly plz
Holy crap that all sounds awesome.
Yes, I want it all, whatever you originally suggested, Ash. And I would like fries with that.
I especially like teams vs mobs. Pure coop with no hard feelings. Winning is good and winning doesnt make other people lose. It sounds awfully carebear but I really think it would be a fun thing.
1v1 and team vs team tournaments would be awesome, but what about the "non-pvp" classes? Healer vs healer? Dwarf vs dwarf?
Being a dwarf myself, I really would like to have a play in this just like everyone else and a chance to win something (two very different things!). How about handicaps? Before a fight, two opponents can agree on a health or damage multiplier for one of the fighters.
Last man standing would be hilarious. I imagine there will be 2 kinds of people, the ones caught up in "honor", fighting from the start, not engaging people already in fights etc because it's "cheap". Then the ones that *only* attack people already fighting, or simply hiding or running in circles until there's only one opponent left.
Bring on the trash talking and intrigue!
About rewards for winning, it would be really cool to have something to show for it other than money. Something for the clan or a cosmetic feature on your character. Heck if I know what that would be...
1 on 1
No 1 on 1!!
At least not at coluseum.
Coluseum is so big, it will be a waste of space for a 1 on 1 dual.
Group vs Group
5 vs 5, make your own best 5 ppls team, and
9 vs 9, organized by clan sound like good idea.
Player vs Mob
This part sounded fun; however, there r enough raid mob/boss mob out there that group of ppl can fight with out GMs being there. And, we really want as much player interaction as we can in those event.
Ballte Royal
Last person stand is the best. Every one can play (and some door prize will be nice). It will make more sense thou, to limit the helping from each other. We want this to be a free for all event instead of Group vs one. Allowing rez will defeat that. I can imiagine that a single healer from an alliance surivive the inital choas and rez the whole alliance back. Only other alliance of same size can stop them.
As far as balance, don't worry about it.
I mean ppl go to PvP to see which player/clan/alliance is the strongest. Any unbalance, such as eq/lv will be balanced automatically. As every one is growing stronger, the gap between strong and weak will reduce. Eventually, every one will be lv75 with top b grade eq. Hoestly, there won't be real balance no matter how u categorize. There is always difference in class/eq/lv/skills, and higher level ppls with better gear always have better chance to own other. BTW, did I mention that tank vs tank, which ppl simply just trade hit and pray that stun land, is kind of boring.
I liked where someone said we should have them on the siege off weekends. I think 10 mobs is kind of low. I think it should be like 50 or 60 mobs. You don't lose exp so it should be hard. 40 level 40 mobs, 50 lvl 50 mobs, 60 lvl 60 mobs. :)
I love the idea of group vs. mob and solo vs mob. A crucible of sorts. To see how long a group/indevidual can last against mobs with increasing difficulty and rewards.
Single PVP could be done in elimination matches. Registered before hand and fight schedual determined by officials. Maybe it can be organised on the web site ahead of time. If some one does not show then the person advances to the next round. Fights could be organised in to 5 level range weight devisions. Doubltfull ultran newbs could get there so 20 could be the starting devision.
There are other weight classes that can fill in to get all the way to 75. Maybe a trainies fight in Gludin arena with rewards just for them.
Group vs. group can be signed up for in advance. Maybe select alternatives just in case part of the group does not show. They could represent clans/ aliances or just individuals who like to group.
Any way you put it this would be a great event that bolth the GM's and the players can enjoy.
I think all of the different types of tournaments in the Coliseum are good (1v1, group vs. group, PvM, battle royale), and I would suggest that may be you guys can rotate them on the off-siege weekends. For example, week 1 is 1v1, week 2 is siege, week 3 is group vs. group, week 4 is siege, week 5 is PvM, week 6 is siege, week 7 is battle royale, week 8 is siege, week 9 is 1v1.... This rotation will ease up preparation and execution times.
If I have to prioritize these Coliseum tournaments, it will be like this.
1. group vs. group
2. PvM
3. battle royale
4. 1v1
1 vs. 1
I think 1 vs. 1 is a good idea in that it can be used to fine tune skill balance. That being said, you can also sub-divide this into
- any class vs. any class
- party role vs. party role (tank vs. tank, nuker vs. nuker, etc.)
- race vs. race
I think a minimum level of 20 should be set.
I think a fair way to conduct this is to limit the level based on skill upgrades. What I mean by skill upgrades is the level where you gain access to new skills. For example, fighters get new sets of skills at level 20, 24, 28, ...; mystics get new sets of skills at 20, 25, 30, .... So, for an any-class-vs.-any-class tournament, a fair interval for level categories are 20-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-39, 40-43, 44-47, 48-51, 52-54, ....
group vs. group
You can also divide group tournaments into 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5, 9v9, clan vs. clan. Up to 5v5, I think you should restrict levels using the 1v1 restrictions. 9v9 can be restricted by equipment grades (non, D, C, B). Clan vs. clan has no restrictions.
Clan Deathmatch: 4 clans compete in each battle. You try and wipe out all the other members of each opposing clan. The last player standing's clan wins. That way it can even be used as practice for sieges, like working together and cooperation, for clans that have little to no sieging experience.
1v1: This would have to be separated by class. And also lvl groups. But dont separate them into lvl groups like 26-30. Getting new skills at lvl 28 would give a great advantage to the lvl 28 over the lvl 27. The same goes for mages and higher lvls.
Player vs mob: See how long you can survive. Have waves of mobs coming in. Make it like:
1st wave: ELPY ZERG
2nd wave: Keltir attack
3rd wave: Brown bears
4th wave: Ol mahum capitans
5th wave: Neer ghoul Berserkers
6th wave: Medusas
7th wave: Turek Orcs
8th wave: Vanor Silenos
9th wave (higher hp mobs from here on up): Ossiuds
-not sure where to go from here- havent seen too many higher lvl mobs yet, only lvl 45 :/
Hold the Line: Have waves of mobs come in but you and your clan have to keep them from making it over a line. After 10 mobs get over the line, you loose. See how long you can do it. But program the mobs to run towards the line, but attack you if u attack them first.
Just a few sugestions. And Ash plz dont make these events at like 8pm PST Im on the east coast and playing in Sieges from 11pm till 1 am on a sunday night/ monday morning is kinda tough when i gotta be up by six. Make them at like 2pm PST or something. Teon isnt just appealing to the Euro players, it appeals to me too. I dont have to go and drink 6 cups of coffee to stay awake monday.
I totally dig Battle Royale but in a different guise. I think many players versus many mobs would be fun - i posted an idea similar to it but this is the ideal thread.
Each toon has to pay an entrance fee of maybe 5K adena but the XP gain would be enough to warrant the cost. Mobs appear randomly around the arena and anyone can attack any mob. The more damage you do, the more XP you get.
If you die you can be rezzed but if you are returned to a town you can't come back in (you already said that, i'm repeating for clarity).
The battle is timed and mobs get progressively harder as the battle progresses. There would be an invisible XP ticker per toon: the longer you stay alive the higher the XP ticker gets. You earn this XP ticker either when you die and return to a town, or if you survive to the end. You don't get the XP if you SoE out. Everyone left standing at the end of the battle gets an additional reward, perhaps in the form of a loot free-for-all. This might tickle healers into participating as they would want the fighters to stay alive to ensure they themselves are standing at the end.
PVP would be disabled during some battles, and enabled during others. Personally i'd like to see everyone attacking mobs and pulling together (however grudgingly) but i guess the battles would have to suit different needs
You could have an Undead theme, a Ranged mob theme, a Flying mob theme, Spider theme and so on for each battle. For example, the announcement might be "Undead/noPVP Battle Royale".
If everyone dies the battle ends.
You could limit the battle to players in a certain level range. This would allow different mobs to be called up suitable for the level range.
I think the players versus mobs event would go over big, just make sure that the group must leave after their turn, no place holding. I would imagine a simple calcuation could be made so that the mobs appearing in the ring would be a group equal to the combined level of the players. If five lv50 players enter the field, their challenge would be a group of mobs with a combined level of 250 where the strongest and weakest are no more than 10 levels apart from the median of the player group. The challenge can be increased from there by adding levels to the initial mob level total. As an example using the hypothetical group of lv50s, their challenge could be a lv300 (250+50) mob group at "stage 5" where the challenge stage adds 1x stage number - 10. Stage 1 would be +0, stage 2 +10, stage 3 +20, etc.
What about all the europeans on the other servers?
We will certainly do our best to accomodate the maximum number of players on the NA servers. Peak hours in one region might be the worst time in others though. Hopefully we will get enough feedback to find a time that the most people from the most regions can schedule in. Make your preferences known now, or forever hold your peace!
Being a dwarf myself, I really would like to have a play in this just like everyone else and a chance to win something (two very different things!). How about handicaps?
That's one of the many balance issues I want to sort out prior to getting this rolling. Handicaps would be tough to gauge. But what about dwarf vs. dwarf as it's own category? Too limited to be interesting?
I'd bet you anything that half the "corpses" you'd see in the arena would still be alive
The same thought occured to me. Unless I have been misinformed, you can target and attack people using FD. Am I mistaken?
Allowing rez will defeat that. I can imiagine that a single healer from an alliance surivive the inital choas and rez the whole alliance back. Only other alliance of same size can stop them.
Well, in all that chaos, it would be nearly impossible to prevent it. Beyond that, this would give healer classes a chance to affect the outcome of the battle in a very direct way, since they can't really get in there and swing away.
I think 10 mobs is kind of low. I think it should be like 50 or 60 mobs. You don't lose exp so it should be hard. 40 level 40 mobs, 50 lvl 50 mobs, 60 lvl 60 mobs.
As you increased the quantity of mobs, you'd have to lower their individual level. It all depends on how much harder each mob became per step. There's no reason to limit it to 10, but we do want to keep it on the quicker side so more people have a chance to get their turn.
If five lv50 players enter the field, their challenge would be a group of mobs with a combined level of 250 where the strongest and weakest are no more than 10 levels apart from the median of the player group.
I THInk once in blue moon just for kicks on NCsoft's Part. That they should Drop a Huge powerful Mob (with minions) in the colluseum, and put a time Limit on it. Let The people have a go at it. Let the minions give Crap for xp and sp But the MOb gives what who ever beat it what they deserve.
Also you should have to get to the collusium in a certain amont of time (exapmple: "Announcment: Players now have 2mins to get to the collusium for a special event. Hurry the hell up! thnx for playin Lineage ][" ) in order to get in. That way It doesn't get over jammed, and the weakerthans, will have to call teh greaterthans as they are heading to the place, no pre grouping. you dun even always have to use really big mobs, ha! drop a Bunch of agressive lvl 40 and 60+ elpy in there and watch the chaos!.
you could also Have a fight the GM's hour, soooo many people would come for that. Plus it'll help the people feel as if the gm's are actually Living, breathing people, not just automated answers. and we will like the Gm's more after we've killed and been killed By them a few times
a Nice add to that would be that the mob drops Multiple piles of adena, and loot so that no one grp gets all the adena. That would be fun to watch (people gettin dropped by this bohemoth), and to take part in.
You know you guys should just hurry up and give me a job, i'm full of ideas you woudl never think of!
In the Dominus alliance on bartz we have done some colloseum events and it was really fun, some sort of competition between clans would be fun.
One thing that we had was a "cat fight" we put all our healers and prophets into the center and let them battle it out :) was quite fun to watch even tho the tended to team against each other.
I would especially enjoy a vs mob event on bartz and I am sure that there would be several groups and clans who would sign up.
Anything to bring the mind of the gring for an evening is always enjoyable :)
Thanks for the interest, would certainly be fun
[note; please forgive any spelling errors im not perfectly clear atm :p

Not so limited that it wouldn't be fun, but if there was a solution to including [non-pvp classes] into more diverse pvp, that would be even better.
How about a gametype where the classes and/or races are pre-decided?
A match where a guild has to put forth 1 shillien elder, 1 dwarf, 2 orcs, 1 knight, you get the idea. You could add more odd requirements like "the knight must be below level 20" or "the shillien elder must have more than 30 pvp kills".
That way I can play alongside my buddies while striving to perform my best as a dwarf, without thinking "man I'm really gimping my own team. They would do better with a dagger in my place...", and you could be a "really good pvp dwarf" which didnt mean "useless at pvp, but good for a dwarf".
Mob vs Player in the colliseum was a highlight and major draw for Lin1. I hope you are able to bring it here. My only two questions(maybe this has been answered) are will there be xp loss in the mob vs player setting? And as in Lin1 there was a 20 player max limit for each battle. Will there be something similar to this?
I have another idea, what about somthing along the lines of class vs class, and class vs NPC.
Class vs Class would basically be just that, lets say all daggers vs all SR, or all DA vs all Glads? this is just an idea, it would probably be slighly unfair in the dagger part of it, but there could be certain rules set to nullify some of there moves.
Class vs NPC
this may be a bit more interesting, for instance, all healers vs a lvl 79 mob? that would be interesting, also, all glads vs a 79 mob? who wouldnt want to see somthing like that.
ok how bout a handicapped machine for 1v1 matches. First you are automatically debuffed when you entered. Then before the match begins your randomly debuffed or buffed with certain buffs at the start of the match. You can then sell buff but that buff or debuff last for the duration of the match no skill can take it off. Kind of the luck of the draw and have to fight through differenet penatlies and bonuses so you cannot just go in and play the same in each match and win.
Let's get the feedback coming!
- Ash
my humble opinion on this:
1 on 1 should be very easy to organize if the categorizations go after the WEAPON level. as weapons are the most decisive factor in game - set the restriction based on the weapon p.atk or m.atk.
p.ex. a noob tourney could have a max. p.atk of 31 (=top ng)
for lvl 20-40 there could be 3 levels of like basic d-grade, mid d-grade and top d-grade weps.
obviously that would work best in a tournament where class restrictions were active, but even for an occasional 'who-pw0nz-all' type of tourney the matching values for p.atk / m.atk restrictions could turn out a quite interesting challenge.
well - at least for all non-daggers, but actually things will change in the coming years and im pretty sure the time will come where all forum monkeys jump from their trees and shout: 'nerf needed! bounty hunterz rule the world! unfair!' .. muahaha
Id like to post something but it seems everyone has already covered all my initial points so good job community :)
My only opinion is that:
1v1 would be too much like arena, for an event its not very impressive so for me it would be group VS group OR clan VS clan or variations of that such as: group VS monster.
But i deffinately feel for a well organised event 1v1 would be a let down :(
I wanna see aliance on alliance. Like get the top 54 players from each alliance. (54 cause its divisible by 9, the max group size). There will be a a mock relic in the center of the colleseum and the alliance leader will have to interact with it as long as possible. Kind of like king of the hill. And the other alliance will try to kill the leader so their leader can talk to the relic. I also think it would be interesting to have the colleseum entrances open and close like in GoE. Every five minutes dead players could be allowed back into the fight.
The alliance who has the most time interacting with the relic over a period of 1 hour wins.
I'd like to see a tournament based on the same rules as the bandit stronghold preliminaries. Rounds would consist of 5 or so groups of contestants, with one npc per contestant designated as their charge. The groups' goals are twofold - to protect their charge while killing all the others. As soon as a group's charge is killed, they would be ported out of the arena. The last group with their npc standing wins the round.
I'm sorry but if you want to do ANY of this and let others have a FAIR chance, you need to hurry up and PATCH Vicious Stance. Otherwise Daggers will win EVERY event.

It could be enchant scrolls, or rare mats, etc.
they have this same type of thing in lineage 1 (its exetremely fun btw cuz u have to work as a team). So basically they have about 3 deathmatches (its a group of players vs mobs) each with different level ranges. One is for noobs. lvl 10-20 another for mid ranged players 20-45 and another for expert players 45+. Each deathmatch occurs about twice a day. There is a limit to the number of players, it is defined by the lvls of all the players combined. For example, lets say that the 45+ deathmatch has a lvl limit of 500 levels that means that everyones lvl is added up till it reaches that limit, then no one else can enter. Basically thats how entering the deathmatch works.
While in the arena, we have about 5mins to prepare the monsters start spawning in 30 second intervals about 20 monsters spawn each interval. As each interval passes the monsters will get harder. Eventually after about 5mins of the first spawn section of monsters will end and drops will spawn on the floor (in lin1 they had 3 heal potions, escape scrolls and about 3k of adena spawn all over the floor) The second interval of monsters will start spawning and will last about 5mins. It ends will more loot spawning on the floor, about 2x of what the 1st round loot was. Finally, the last and hardest round of monsters start to spawn. It is concluded with 3x the loot of the 1st round drops (should be around 10k adena piles). In the end after the 3rd round ends, a boss spawns and we must kill it. The boss can drops about 1/3 of what it would normally drop in the wild.
However, since bosses in lineage 2 are TERRIBLE. The last boss round won't even be worth staying for. BTW. in lin1 bosses in the wild could drop 100k+ worth of items everytime its killed (the hard ones atleast :)) and the super hard ones 1m+ in loot.
I dont know if this was already suggested because there are too many posts to read through. It would be great if alliances, or clans can rent this space so they could do events, and only let people in by invitation, Thank You
The PvE event sounds awesome, I know I would definitely participate in it, as would the majority of my clan.
One thought about 1v1 though, the colo really isn't too big for 1v1. Several matches could be going on at once, which would greatly speed up the tourny. I do agree for events like this 1v1 would be kind of a let-down though.
Definitely do the PvE events though, something like the Halloween event outside of Giran; that was the most fun I've had in this game. :D
I would like to see weekly coliseum tournaments programmed into the game. Every week the coliseum would automatically hold a single elimination tournament of one of the ones listed below (1 event per week). There could be a adena fee for entering and prizes could be adena, or some benefit to the winner(s) for weeks.
(1) clan vs clan
Spawn each clan on the far ends of the coliseum, unbuffed with max HP and MP, and all skills recharged. Give them a 2 minute prep period and then let them go. Last side left with players up wins.
(2) 1 v 1
Same as above but 1v1, and a 1 minute prep period.
(3) party vs party
Same as above but 9v9 with player joining from any clan.
(4) battle royal
Same as above but spawn a random 25 players each round, from those that signed up. Last one left moves on to next round.
This is really exciting! Thank you Ash. I hope that these events will be seen very soon. The health of this game depends upon it.
Now, for my input. We all know there a inequalities once a character starts to level. There will always be someone stronger than you. The only true test of skill in my opinion would be a nekkid baby contest of some sort.
We try to encourage player events on the RP association. At Christmas Kezzy from SoulPirates sponsored Kezzy's Krazy Kristmas event. Level one dwarves had to deliver a SoE to Kezzy who was deep in the Mith Mines. These players had to wade through dangerous NPC characters. Also planned was evil PC's as grinches to stop the rescue. (that didn't happen.) There was great fun had by all who were able to attend.

Excellent idea! I hate to bring up another game.. but maybe we could have Instance dungeons like EQ. Where you gather a group and have a private zone opened to you. I know the game is seamless, but this could be nice diversion. Hopefully, this is not off topic.
Dont really post much...but id hate to see this idea die off. I think that it would be most beneficial if these events rotated often in order to keep the events exciting. For instance one weekend have 1v1 and some group comp. The next there could be events like previously posted with Mob fights and the what not, but i think it would keep it interesting if the activities changed periodicly. No matter how you do it there will always be certain balance issues.
The way i have always interpreted this game is that it is a clan based PvP event. So events that help with strengthening Clan community should be taken into account. Alliances already have the siege element but organized clan events seem to be lacking.
I have an idea for the PvE events: Situational PvE.
Basically, you have a group of players vs mobs, placed into situations that get tougher and tougher. Examples:
Hold the Line: As above - the group has to prevent mobs from crossing a pre-set line somewhere in the Collesium. Perhaps at higher stages the line is further forward.
Party Debuff: Entire party starts out debuffed in some way. The higher the stage the more/worse the debuffs. Maybe these debuffs are also uncancellable, so the fight must be completed with the debuffs intact throughout the whole thing.
Party Poison: Entire party is poisoned and cannot be cured. Make it do more and more damage depending on stage.
Party Asleep/Paralyzed/Stunned/etc: Any number of things. Party starts this way and has to survive.
And so on. If anyone is familiar with the Battle Arena in Final Fantasy VII, it'd be kinda like that, though with groups instead of single characters. I suppose it could be done solo, too.
- Ash
Hmmm... Since you have not been able to allow Europeans who have high level characters on other servers to move to Teon, you should hold the event at such time that we are able to partisipate too. Or even if you had most probably would not have moved, since they are in a clan etc...
Would it be possible to hold these events two times a day?
Then it would be possible to us Euros have our event when it is our peak time. Same would go for the US.
When are these events planned to be held? On weekdays or on weekends?
If weekdays I'd say Euro friendly time would be 8-10 pm GMT and on weekends maybe 4-6 pm GMT.
Getting a good euro time is going to be hard, but at least make it in weekends in a 12 am-11 pm time frame (i tal about GMT +1 which is the central european hour).
Isn't for example sunday 12 am PST = 9 Pm GMT+1 a good hour for everyone?
About the kind of event.
I think the 9 vs 9 and the Party vs Mobs are the most interesting.
And the idea of having to go trough a bunch of mobs is great.
A Clan vs Boss is good but it takes too long IMO.
EDIT: and everything should be recorded by GM and posted here in the official web.
People who dont have more ideas to post but would like to have this event, please make a BUMP post to keep this up and make NC know thant we want the event.

You don't have to make suggestions to let the devs know we would like this. You can just post on what you think sounds cool out of what's already suggested.
Let's get the feedback coming!

In order to make it interesting, maybe we should have titles for the winners, per server.
For example, overall champion 1vs1, best tyrant, best clan..
A little bit like boxing titles.
I guess you would have to go through a qualifiacation process (maybe number of consecutive victories) before being able to get a chance a the title. The owner of the titles would have to defend it at least once a week.
This would work for 1VS1 or groupVSgroup...not sure that it would for groupVSmobs

don't know if anyone has mentioned this. but i'd like to see GM's, Ash or Tsin, vs. Players. This has proven to be fun in other mmorpg's that i've played. Knowing GMs have special skills, gears, and godly high lvl, it'd take 1/2 a server to take 1 down.
This is an easy one ash, take the Lineage 1 deathmatch system and implement here it. 4-5 rounds of increasingly challenging monsters, at the end of the last round spawn a boss.
Boss drops items, no other mops do. Simple as that. That way there is a reward for everyones efforts.
Also, there is a deathmatch top ten, listing the top 10 players according to how many monsters they kill.
Would it be possible to hold these events two times a day?
It's possible.
When are these events planned to be held? On weekdays or on weekends?
If weekdays I'd say Euro friendly time would be 8-10 pm GMT and on weekends maybe 4-6 pm GMT.
Thanks for the suggestions. We haven't locked down any times yet, so it's still all very flexible.

Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that as an option?
People who dont have more ideas to post but would like to have this event, please make a BUMP post to keep this up and make NC know thant we want the event.
Don't just write "bump," but tell us which ideas you like best! That's the best way to contribute to this topic. :)
I think the player/players vs. mobs idea is awesome. This game is so dependent on money so its really important to be able to get it or items. A mob event with rewards would be a fun way to kill stuff without risk of xp loss on death but with possibility of a reward. Ha, one of the few things that would be low risk high reward in this game. Plus with the way mobs drop (or don't ) in the environment this would be nice to have :p
Uber Elpy. Have a larger then normal size Elpy in the coliseum and just give the players a set time to kill it. This is no normal run away then die Elpy. This is a agro you high level kill you in 2 hits Elpy.
If this players fail to kill the Elpy, the Elpy says something like "you weaklings bore me" then everyone in the coliseum dies and the Elpy leaves.
If the players somehow kill the crazy Elpy then after the next Wednesday server maintenance the players in the server get a piece of the Elpy armor set.
Have the Eply keep spawning every week till it's killed enough to get the whole set (helmet, boots, gloves, shirt, pants) and have it that it gives you a set bonus that won't be known till you get the set.
I also like the PvM. Have it start low then go to higher level mobs (level 5,10,15,20,25........) Then depending one what level monster you kill will be what prize you can get, like a D grade level monster will get you D grade based prizes.
-level 20 = ___Adena, ___SSD, ___SPSD, ___BSPSD
-level 25 = ___Adena, Low Dye, Rare D mats/Recipes
-level 30 = ___Adena, Low D Gear, D Armor Scroll
-level 35 = ___Adena, High Dye, D Weapon Scroll, High D Gear
You can have it something like that for all the grades just different prizes. Also have it that when you get to the higher level monsters you can choose from all the prizes under your prize level within reason. A D grade winner could not get a NG prize or a C grade prize winner could not get a NG or D grade prize. Don't make these monsters easy give them like 3-5x hp and added skills then that of the normal monster so you are working for you kills.

a sweet event would be sending captured pkers into battle against all sorts of animals but if they survive they lose karma and gain some prize
theyd be captured by using a special items that calls guards but its 1 use and very expensive so u must be rich to do this but not to much like 1 mil but to make it a little fair for pkers <though it really shouldnt be fair for them> u after calling the guards must defeat the pker and then they are sent to fight and if pkers wait they may party with others captured
Three suggestions that go along with all (most?) of the above scenerios:
1) Find a way to include participation by low level players. For instance, allow free or reduced-cost direct teleport between Gludio and the colluseum during the time of the event.
2) Make at least one of the contest types ongoing, with a tournament bracket.
3) Post the results on the website! In detail! We want to see our name in lights! :)
How about this, historical reenactments. Players get the opportunity to relive battles straight out the Lineage 2 mythos. Imagine fighting side by side with Sieghardt and his mercenary troops or guarding Devianne against a mob of Silenos. I think roleplayers would eat this up! :D
I cannot recall at the moment, but if it hasn't been done already, enable the broadcast crystal to let players have a seat at the coliseum.
I Organized a large pvp event on the Gustin server not too long ago and found it be extremely difficult to handle properly. I strongly recomend:
1. 1v1 loose (any class in the lvl range)
2. 9v9 and 18v18 clan battles. (any lvl, static prizes)
The mob challenge may be fun for some... but i rather not, since i battle mobs to no end already ;). The easiest to organize (Royal Rumble) will be really fun for DA's, Warlords, and Warcryers... but being a bishop i know i would be ganked in 10 seconds :P.
I would like to start up another PVP tourney... but it seems that my Server is so EAA/AEA crazy (gotta be a Gustinian to know what i mean... hence the 22k+ post count) i don't know if it could be civil :p
The time issues really isn't that difficult to figure out, and it amazes me that NCSoft has not yet figured it out (I'm east coast btw). The vast majority of NAL2 players are in the US and Europe. It can also be assumed that the vast majority of players are most able to play on the weekends (no work, school).
If you schedule the events for 12pst (3pm EST, 8pm GMT) then you will reach the largest possible audience for your events. I've never understood why NCSoft insists on marketing their prime events (sieges) to times that are geared towards PST players as this severely limits a good number of players/clans ability to take part in these "end game" events.
I don't know if this could even be implemented but how about an event where the weapons and armor a player owns would not be available and instead players would choose from various armors and weapons. Kind of like in the movie Gladiator.
I liked the Survive or Die arena in Pristontale (www.pristontale.com). You might call it a combination of battle royale and players vs mobs. Over the course of eight rounds the arena is filled with a horde of mobs, tougher each round. It's a last man standing competition. You're also rewarded based on how many rounds you survive.
OMG This is going to be so cool, anyway here is my 2 cents.
1v1 (Not such a great idea since we have arena's already. Plus way too many 1v1 if you consider the size of every server.)
Group/ Party (I say full party ones, 9 each randomly selected base on their lvls. I say a 5 lvl gap.)
Clan (This is going to be huge, and fun for everyone. Instead of players flaming the forums about who is the best clan, they can prove it without penalty.) (Winner gets sp and adena to help their clan)
Player vs. Monsters (I like the idea of what Ash put, so i'll leave this one the way he describe it.)
Battle Royal (Get everyone sleep first when the players get into the colisium, so those with laggy computer have to time to get into the action with out dying.)
Player Vs GMs (All I gotta say is bring it on :P)
Everyone have to register 2 hours before the event. NPCs in every town so those not high enough to travel to the colisieum can register and participate in this event. Everyone will get to choose their equipment from the rental shop. Pets such as wolfs/hatchling/striders may not be used on 1v1. Soul Shot or any type of enhancement except buffs may not be used. Health Potion or any other type of potion may not be used. (For the GM fight anything goes :))
Well thats all, and Ash can you post up when you think this will be implemented into the game? :D
OMG THANK YOU ASH FOR A GREAT IDEA! It would be great if Gm's did more events like this, because other than petitions you guys seem pretty invisible. And I really hope this gets off, because it would be loads of fun. As for the dueling system you could have it like the looking for party system, like "Looking for opponnet X lvl-Y lvl" and you are able to see the other person's level to confirm this etc. Also something like a duel manager that you can set for the level range you will duel and both players have to accept. Also for the gear, again both playes have to agree in order to duel eachother and a small area can be placed around them renering them invlunerable to other players/cant hit other players, so nobody can gank them. Just a sketch of something that could work, if you want I can put more thought into this if this could be implemented Ash :)
Oh and if you Gm's show yourselves that wuold be great for the community :)
Just posting because I want to see anything done with events inside the colleseum =) and not just a single event, but ongoing, whether it be daily or weekly, something continuing to do between our siege time.
i would love to see the pvm in the collesium...its like lineage one....which has this for a fee you can go in and kill as many mobs that spawn in increasing level and drop stuff too...that would be really fun...and have a last man standing event as well...a free for all. once you die you can not re enter (if you chose to "goto the nearest town").
The players vs monsters sounds fun, but the battle royale is what I would most like to see, to fill the arena to capacity and then closing it off, and then hear the monstrous roar of battle between hundreds of players begin all at once would be a spectacular event.
Have a free for all with only healers and buffers. (orcs included). Fill it up and let them at it. It would of course take hours because of the overall lack of damage being put out. but still, i think it would be interesting to see which healer could use their skills to their advantage the most. Like root a bunch of people around them like a shield. >.<
i mostly like the PVM idea
but then not once in a while but just anytime you want
:p with some nice rewards if you reach the last mob
BUT then instead of going in colliseum, you have a npc at the coliseum that you go to with youre party (full party only).
so that you can do it anytime you want.
the leader talks to the npc and youre whole party gets teleported in a special room.
(this is cause then more groups can enyoy it at the same time maybe with broadcast tower you can watch fighting groups there as they kill mobs)
where, first low lvl mobs (groups) get spawned and after you kill em higher lvl spawns (after 20 minutes you get a little break for buff etc not to much so you have to hurry).
and then maybe at every group of mobs there is 1 head mob that has special drops (according to moblvl offcourse but with allot of drop chance).
so higher lvl you come the more / better the drops become
also good will be no XP loss but the mobs will give 0 xp/sp and 0 adena (or maybe only the boss mob mentioned bit before will drop items and adena)
and now im kinda going up in my imagination
OR make it a place where you have to run around to next floors killing all mobs and every floor has offc the higher floor you go the stronger mobs you encounter and to getto the next floor you need to kill all the mobs withing timelimit and offcourse the boss mob that guards the door to the next floor
(same item drop and xp rules as before).
imo that would be ALLOT of fun as now you get the option to not only kill same mobs over and over as in normal lvling (like in ToI, DVC, GC, Cruma), BUT you can just go with youre friends have some nice soulshots spam no xp/sp loss/gain but just to get some nice items/equipment and offcourse make a ranking set of the group that got most far in this Colliseum (top3 or 10 W/ever).
and maybe set at first a special record that the first group has to beat and if you beat the highest record you get yet again a special reward.
another add for the rewards for each lvl (boss mob of that lvl)
to make it more fun for every lvl lvl 20 till lvl 75 i guess
is from first boss mob Top non grade/ low D grade armor/weapons Till higher lvl Top B equipment maybe even A grade offcourse the droprate shouldnt be to high but allso not to low (cause else you do all the trouble and you didnt get any items in the run) OR maybe make the drop items only Recipes, dyes, weapon, armor parts with very high chance and make some armor/ weapon only available trough this colliseum (event raid hunt w/ever you call it after this rant:P)
and ofcourse here i want to thank ash for bringing up this thread/idea thx ;)
(excuse me if its a bit weird written i try my best to keep the mistakes out :( )
I think the Player vs. 10 mob idea is great. Have two different tounements, one single player vs mobs, then have a 5 player vs mobs. The 10 mobs would have to be tailored to the player lvls of course, but I am not sure the best way to match up. Thanks.
I would like to see this happen. For too long people have complained about "no events on the NA servers", now Ash is handing us the idea sketch pad. WOOOO HOOOOO .... you have my vote.
Idea: How about GMgroup vs playergroup ? Where the GM's come in as their regular characters vs a player group 5vs5 or what ever number is decided on. Not just UberGMvs1 or many.
Idea2: Spawn mobs that are not generaly seen by players or high lvl mobs that are hard to get to, so that everyone has a chance to OOOHH&AWWW at it then try to kill it. Even if its just for fun.
Sorry if the ideas are redundant, didnt have time to read through the whole thread.
We could have a defensive event too. Put all the player who sign up inside the Coliseum, and give them an npc, or a crystal to guard, and either have a second team of players assualt the Coliseum, or waves of mobs. Think of it like a castle seige that everyone can participate in, rather than just those in a level 4 or above clan.
I like a lot of the other suggestions too. A battle royal would be very fun, as well as class vs. class, and full party pvps.
The timeframe for getting recurring PvP activities in the coliseum up and running is most definitely not measured in years, or by chronicle. But there's a lot of overhead involved when getting it going for the first time. But the upside of waiting is that once it's here, it'll be here for the long term. I also have reason to believe that when starting out, we'd probably see the frequency be something like once a month. However, we'd increase the frequency in conjunction with player turnout/feedback. Again, as disclaimer, all of this is just me "thinking out loud." Don't take any of this as set in stone while we're all still brainstorming.
My thoughts are to start out with the "spectacle" type events that aren't what you can usually see in arenas, such as Battle Royale, PvMobs, or PvGM, and emphasize those. Players can and do arrange their own 1-on-1 and group battles all the time. Let me know if I'm off in this line of thinking.
And when it comes to prizes, I'm thinking the bigger, the better. Also, I'm thinking about items that are hard to get, like enchant scrolls, or rare materials. Now is the time to start telling us what kind of rewards you'd like to see handed out (be specific, and try to keep it realistic, of course ;) )
Ok, I think everyone should get a small token for signing/showing up to the event. It would be small such as 10 escape scrolls, or Greater Heal Potions, a goodie bag so to say.
For winners of events a 1st, 2nd, 3rd place deal for prizes.
Items that could be given out.
Greater Haste Potions.
Enchant Weapon and Armor D,C,B
Base Mats : 1000 CLeather, 1000 CBP, 1000 Steel.
Crystals D,C,B or 1000 SoulOre
For rare stuff for 1st place winners you could go with.
Spoil only recipes
D,C,B Grade weapons: Winners choice
D,C,B Grade Armor: Winners choice
How about changing their board title to Collisium Hero!
Oh how sweet how sweet it is.....Ash this is great to see your response, I must admit I was skeptical of this whole thing at first....ok so rewards hmm.
I think some cool ideas for rewards would be like you said rare things like enchant scrolls and such. Maybe award the winner of whatever contest a weapon or piece of armor of their choice (within reason I suppose :p) Hmm I'm not good at this part, but pretty much I would say items over adena.
OK so someone who is creative put some ideas down I know you are out there :D
I like the idea of rare prizes, as it will make the turnout/quality of the event that much better. As far as current prizes that could be awarded, I'd suggest Weapon enchants or for rare materials give them an option of a couple.........say perhaps mold hardners, a Bgrade recipe of their choosing, or a couple of dyes of their choosing.
If the scale of the event is large enough (and/or near the C3 launch), perhaps give them an item that will be available at the launch of C3 such as one of the new A grade recipes for their preferred weapon/armor type. This would give both a rarity and value to the prizes awarded.
Normal enchant scrolls are simple and easy to get. How about....
A-grade armor or jewelry.
Other B/C-grade items that are not currently dropped in the game but can be GM created (such as the phoenix gloves that were accidentally given to a player by a GM earlier :p)
Underwear
Cloaks
Blessed scroll of enchant (won't fail) or the ability to trade in one weapon for an overenchanted one
Heart of Paagrio amulet
That other spellbook that is only dropped via the wishing potion quest
I have more but I'm tired. So that's a good starting point I think ^_^
What about races. Similiar to the lvl 4 clan quest. Teams start at the coliseum with tasks that they need to perform outside the coliseum. First team back wins.
You could also do something similiar to capture the flag. Your team has to wade through mobs to get an item on the other side of the arena then get it back to where you started. Again, best time wins.
Players can and do arrange their own 1-on-1 and group battles all the time. Let me know if I'm off in this line of thinking.
Well, i think you're off in this line of thinking. Of course, i'm not going to say i'm right because you have a goat, or else you'll start to speak as if you had swallowed a pile of law books. So here are some real arguments :
1- Important individual bragging rights involved in personnal combat.
2- GM interaction makes an "event" official. If i made GMDarkmotion's fight nights, 3 people and a dog would show up, but if AshNC was referree to fight night, i bet you 200+ people show up.
3- This can lead to long term advancements community wise (ladders, rankings, challenges, trash talking, you get the idea).
4- You cater to the High-End "tired" gamers.
5- Cherry-picking. I realize the Asian way to martial arts is much less competition oriented, but remember you are in a NA market. Competitions in the martial arts don't attract any attention in NA, right ?
I understand that the more specific you are with the rules, the harder it is to manage. But i am reversing the green garden ray against you. If you invest a bit in this garden, it is sure to bloom by itself, under you watchfull care.

Not that anyone has specifically suggested this, but I, for one, think that full A grade weapon or armor prizes would be too much for a monthly event. Getting an A grade weapon is a big deal, and is the culmination of many months of effort. Please don't cheapen it!
Rare recipes, enchant scrolls, blessed haste potions, blessed res scrolls, and blessed SOEs all sound like great prizes.
For rewards, I'm going to suggest something other than petty items. How about special titles to our name eg "Squid the Champion" or perhaps a different color text to name (other than blue or white)
If you're set on the reward being an item, it should be something that is currently unattainable in L2 by normal means otherwise it takes away from it's uniqueness. Perhaps an item that changes the skin/appearance (race) to another.
I realize these ideas may not be possible, but if at the very least perhaps they will trigger other great ideas. I firmly believe the rewards need to be unique to make the event fullfilling.
Id split it up the qualification levels every 5 levels 20-25, 26-30, 31-35 ect
also since im sure the GMs have the power block out any other players from interfering and sleep the players and give a count down, once the sleep runs out game on.
i agree we should have
1v1
3v3
3vMob
1Vmob
events are a good idea then on any winner have a bonus prize fight against a GM. but the GMs need to tone down the godliness your not impressing anyone.
as for prizes:
something cool like a unique weapon or outfit.
door prizes can be something like music crystals that don't runout ect.
and theres always XP SP and adena those are good.
thanks for listening
I think enchant scrolls would be a good prize. They're expensive but not really something that makes you "uber".
How about a rechargable (infinite charges, but not spammable) echo crystal with a unique tune? Consumable self-buff potions (a stack of 50 potions with ww2?).
As others I'm not too hyped about plain monetary value prizes. A stack of materials or a top x-grade weapon would certainly be nice but a little cheesy for the novel competitions. Kinda like handing a kid a $50 check for winning a potato sack race at a birthday party.
Maybe for the real top grand finale guild-vs-guild battle there could be something really nice involved, like 10,000 iron for the clan wh or something. But for the lower end skirmishes I dont want the focus to be on the prizes.
The only thing I can think of is the rewards. Any time there is a GM event there should be some kind of rare item(a weapon, armor, just something that can be used at the players current level and is not a waste of inventory space like the Chrono)
So depending on the event, there would be different items.
example.
The PvE 1v1. I go in as an archer with my bow. If I beat more mobs than anyone else my level or against me, I win. The prize could be something like a new Skin for my Bow. The bow would have the same stats that it had to begin with, it will just look different. Different color, shape... something like that.
I would love to see unique prizes kind of like having your name text changed to a different color as suggested before. If at all possible, I think a great prize for a major tournament would be a palette change of the characters basic appearance (when they are not wearing armor). Of course plenty of those very rare dyes would be welcomed :D
A PvP event is a great idea, but dont forget the player below lvl 40.
In game, there are recommend lvl for sieges and raids (logical) so lower Player cant join.
I hope, that events like this not only be created for Highlevel Player, cause we newcommer wanna join too. :D
I beleive there should be a clan survival type compeition sometime as well. One clan is called or told a scheduled time per server to meet in the arena and waves after waves of increasingly difficult mobs are spawned until every last one died then prizes are awarded according to how well each clan did. I suppose this same concept could occur with groups that aren't clans.
Clan vs. Clan competition sounds interesting, as the numbers are self-limiting. 9v9 or XvX also good, but Clan vs. Clan would be less of a hassle to organize. If you want to prevent people from altering their 9v9 lineup at the very last minute to counter whatever they see their competition coming up with, you'd have to register character names ahead of time and all that. Still doable, of course, but if you want something large-scale and simple, clan competition would be easiest.
The downside is, of course, that there may be large level disparities among clans. Almost no matter which way you go, there will be some room for criticism.
How about "Player vs. GM" night? The GMs can go to the arena in a toon no greater in level than the highest level character on the server. Everybody gets to gang up on them for some fun. Only available in the Coliseum. It'd be great to vent a little frustration.
Sorry if this has already been suggested, i dont have time atm to read 13 pages.. but I played lin1 for quite a while and my favorite part of the game was Deathmatches where the arenas, though they were a bit different than this game, would host an event like 2 times a day at certain times, and only a certain # of people could get in, by level. Like total number of levels was say 500, therefor 10 lvl 50 people could get in, or 10 lvl 40s and 2 lvl 50s, somethign like that, any combination up to that max lvl. Then the mops would spawn, starting with really low level things in high numbers, then another batch, and so on.
It went in rounds, you would have to live through say 10 groups of lvl 20-25 mops, then drops appeared on the ground, basic things, money, potions, scrolls of escape. Then another round of say 10 groups of lvl 25-35 mops. And again, drops on the ground of money, scrolls, ecetra, only more of each, i think the amound like doubled per round in lin1.
Then third round, same thing, 10 groups of lvl 35-45 mops or somethign like that, and if u lived, more drops.
Then a pause to regen, and a boss spawned. In the hardest death match in lin1, the boss was often Valakas, one of the dragons. Often it was just another boss, say a Phoenix or something.. in lin2 you could do maybe Orfen or something.
This boss mop dropped just as it normally would, though in lin1 drops like that were based on damage, so person doing most damage got hte drop, perhaps it woudl be random, or maybe a modified drop list so that anyone alive got something.
In lin1, u lost normal % in a DM, but since you could escape instantly, its not the same, I'd suggest DM's where u lost half % or maybe 1% like seiges, but could not be resed in the arena. Also, DM's cost like 1k to get into and the viewing stations charged like 100, so u could watch a DM, that money would go to the townt hat controlled the arena.
I haven't whether this has been brought up before or not, so here goes.
I would like the see rewards come in the form of upgrades. The winner of an event could get to choose a better peice of armor, or a better weapon to trade their old weapon in for.
Take, for instance, a knight wielding an SoD. If he were to win an event, he would get to trade in his SoD (a mid c-grade wep) for any top C grade weapon. If his SoD has an SA on it, he could pick which SA to put on the upgraded weapon.
Also, a cool prize could be something like a unique SA. Maybe health on a sword of damascus, or haste on crystal dagger. Perharps, the weapon with the unique SA could glow, or have a unique model that would represent the victory of it's wielder.
One last idea: Unique dye's would be a great reward too. Maybe something like a +2 dex, -1 con dye, that could not be earned by any conventional means.
I think an event that might be pretty cool is a series of games, like they would hold in the Roman times. I mean like maybe for one week straight twice a day there would be a different PvP event in the coliseum. The GMs could make up some acient battle and have the players renact it. Also the winners could possibly get a "gladiators" sword as a reward. Just a thought.
I know we are supposed to contribute new information with each post, but I think people repeating ideas over and over will show an idea is generating interest in the community. I think this thread should be loaded with "[insert quote of previous post discussing X idea] Yeah! /sign" or any other voice of agreement. If 50 people post 50 different ideas, as neat as that would be, that would not give a consensus as to what the community wants. So, post away! :D

Can we have Antharas and/or Bauim spawn in the coliseum for us to take down? please? =D
I disagree with this idea simply because it takes away the reward of hunting baium or anthras. You are only supposed to be able to hunt these bosses if you've completed the quest and are hte appropriate level to do so. Its a privelage ur supposed to earn to be able to attempt these bosses, putting it in an event would take away from that.
What about a change in the environment while in combat (pvp or pvm) ?
- During the fight the ground may become like CT swamp and gives you poison dmg, or the volcano type like Blazing swamp with fire dmg the Third will be the water (fight in a pool) and the last i can think of : a Gravity Battle Ground where your weight is x3 or x5 so Elven Elder's decrease weight might have some purpose :p
- You could also add "positive" environments: one where base speed increased by 2, or Haste , or an insane crit rate etc..
- Some random lightnings could appears but should be sufficiently slow to give the chance to a player to avoid the atk.. also healing/buffing plateform could appear (like the Treasure box: you click on it your buffed or it explode and dmg you)
That way the fights during these events would have nothing to do with what you experienced in a normal condition.
Also, wouldn't it be fun to use it as a pre-prod skill test ?
- Some skills are still impossible to use in real pvp: Hate (Haute Aura), Fear, Serenade of Eva.. wouldn't it be good to allow them against players for a special Battle Royale... well that is if your devs are already working on such implementations.
In 1v1 someone said that players should be naked and choose a selection of pre-designated weapons & armors before the fight: well you could add a Box near the entry, click on it and you'll put all your inventory inside .. when the fight is over, click again on the box to get your stuff back.
I too think Server Boss like Baium or Antharas should not appear in that place, as well as the dungeon pvm battle type: you basically described CT and TOI :p
Rewards:
- Raw Mats (well semi-finished goods) should be a must like CBP, Ori , CLeather etc.. these are the hardest thing to get when you wanna craft.. Cryst C, B, A as well.
- A special name or mark for the winnrs would be appreciated: No special skills in it : simply a way to clearly identify the top players of the month, week ect..
- I am unsure whether full drops would be a good idea: for a monthly event well certainly but not a weekly as those things are supposed to be hard to get. Plus i have the feeling that if you allow full drops, the last boss would be unbeatable...
Antharas is a nice mob but how many of us will have the chance to ever participate to it's death ? I'd prefer to see weekly 1st price winner (with a medium reward) than one 1st price winner every 6 months (with a high reward).
Remember these events are for fun, the real stuff is waiting for us outside the colliseum.

We should have a server tournaments...
I have seen the events in Korean servers, and they do make some quite interesting thing to watch and participate...

Depends if the bosses are shall we put it, set up so no exp is gained, no drops, and nothing earned or lost. Therefore the real prize is to beat the actual boss on its own terms.

Yeah. I liike the no drop no xp thing. This way players will have a chance to practice on him like once a month to actually see if they are strong enough to take him down for real. I mean, just picture 200 of the highest players on the server running into the lair thinking they are big stuff only to be horribly mutilated by Big Bad Antharas and running the risk of loosing their armor and weapon. Ive been in Orfen raids and a lot of people who drop things like earings or helmets sometimes dont get them back. Sometimes ive seen players like farmers jump out from behind rocks and grab peoples stuff after they die.
All this can be avoided just by practicing on Baium and Antharas in the colleseum.
I think there should be a clan tournament with a fixed number of people per side and then the winning teams should get prizes based on their rank when finished. Also a more frequent event that would be enjoyable would be to have a group vs a group of monsters or a single higher lvl mob, which could be choosen based on the lvl of the opposing group.
How about doing an event where you get a minimum level character to enter the coliseum. Say level 45 minimum. Anyone can enter the contest but they have to be level 45. Then you start bringing monsters into the coliseum, starting with the lower level mobs and starting to progress to high level mobs, till eventually the last mob is a boss. Base the number of kills on a point system, the higher the level of the mob killed the greater the point value. The longer you live in the contest the more points you get, but the moment you die you lose all the points u earned, however you can escape and retain your points that you have earned.
Basically a free for all with players versus mobs for points. the top person will get a prize once a month then the scores get reset. However, the person who on the contest for the month cannot participate in the contest til the following month. Call it a king of the hill reward.
everything sounds cool to me..
Just one thing comes to mind..
we had a castle siege at Oren where there were around 30 attacking clans and 12 defending and the game became allmost implayable with so many players at one spot.. so I like to sugest that players gets divided into groups at Aden and then make them watch in the BC and only the fighting groups go to Colosseum or something simular couse otherwise it would be impossible to target anyone with the lag.. I'm really sorry about this cuz I love the idea of all the fighting modes also all vs all but it's kind of impossible imo..
I think a colisuem is an awsome idea you should have it where even lower level people can play like make it where you put in your level and you verse other people around the same level that you are.
Come on people! We can't let this thread get washed away by other posts! Back to the front page with this one! :D
As for my suggestion: I don't think the Coliseum should offer much for low level players since it is far from every starting area and would prove fatal due to high level mobs. I think we should focus on lv32+. However, some of the simpler Coliseum events could trickle down to the arenas for the enjoyment of lower level players. :D
grrrr....Im not sure if someone has already posted my idea, but how about we merge the servers for, about 2 hours, count the victories and losses, and at the end, the winning server gets some kind of...who knows, special pet issued to their server?
maybe a monster kilng comp with whatever u kill u keep?
anyway it goes I like having a pet a a specil prize.
Players vs mobs should be something everyone can do rather well in, seeing as that is the majority of the game already, and since we have so much practice, it would be wonderful to put this practice to some practical use assuming practical use implies we actually get some decent reward for beating an onslaught of monsters greater in value than what we cold have achieved grinding through that very same number of monsters, and seeing that normally there is an atrocious drop rate, this would not be too hard to improve over.
There are a few ideas here I would love to see an explanation for, as right now they have been given with no reason as to thwy they should be done that way, this being chiefly why we should expect to have to make investments in order to participate in these games with no hope of experience, sp, adena and item reward. As well I would like someone to explain why there is a reason that a weakened Antharas and Baium et al should not be spawned in the Colisseum, certainly if our goal is fun, then beating such beating such monsters in a large organized group amongst a large crowd with no risk involved of losing exp or items could not be other than great fun, and fun being the purpose of this game, then not allowing this would be nothing more than a hindrance to greater fun.
The best reward idea I have seen here has been for the victor to receive that next weapon or piece or armor which is one step above there current armor or weapon, providing of course that such a step does indeed exist. After all such an act would not be giving these items out unfairly, no we are giving rewards to those who have not earned such, but rewards to those who have earned such, which is why we call them victors, they have proven themselves by conquering something or other.
Anpther Idea :
In the player vs mobs..
make all the mobs be boss kinda mobs around the same level as the players (or more) so instead of fighting the same mobs as they currently fight to exp they get to fight a boss since they are allready a group of people it should work. And if it's possible reward the one that did the most damage throughout the match. even if that player is dead.. and the other way around for healers so the healer that recovered most hp will also be a winner.. so you get a best healer and best DD.
Since the boss "family" will aggro whoever hits the hardest bow users and mages will not have the advantage of the more damage per shot, and since it's still an competition I doubt the tanks would use hate to keep the aggro so theyd proberbly survive the mages and rangers.. well just an idea..
Except of course that good strategy may well dictate some healers hold back on their healing to conserve their mp in case they really need it, as opposed to simply sitting their spamming that heal spell until they blow through their mp and can heal no longer, leaving the rest of the group with no healers as they had to compete to heal the most, even though group survival would better suit them if they did not all try to heal as much as they could. As well, tanks simply will not be doing as much damage as a direct damage oriented class, yet they are no less necessary, well unless one attack byt he mob would kill anyone there anyway, at which point all that would be desired would be direct damage and healing classes. But at that point, then the person who deals the most damage is determined solely by luck and luck alone, being the person who either was attacked the least often or the person who was resurrected the most, perhaps due ot proximity to the healers. No the better determination would be whoever is part of the winning group recieves a reward as though no one else was in the colisseum with them.
frankly I think a royal rumble would be awesome lol XD, that would be great, maybe make it so people can stand in the "bleachers" so that they can watch, the orb thing is nice but being there and seeing it happen would be 10x better, if something like that would be organized i would more than likly go see it, would be insane lol. anyways gl on getting these things together Mr. GM.
I think there should be a look athon one player represents each race for looks and atire and the gms vote winner gets a modeling contract with Aden Versachin. (sorry couldnt think of anything better WEST SIDE)
Player vs mobs
Maybe like the arena DeathMatch in lin1 :) Mops keep spwanning and players had to stay alive and kill the mobs. A certain lvl boss spwan after a period of time. When the boss die, the players can proceed to another lvl and kill higher lvl mops. XD
1v1 ( class vs class)
It would be fun for summoner vs summoner. :p 2 Kats with their summoners battle each other... or unicorn vs kat... hatchling vs hatchling.
What about healer vs healer? O.O;; Healers can't heal each other to death... I really want to see how a bishop or a shillien elder pvp. Keep in mind that bishop don't have any buffs other than the cleric ones... it's hard for them to do damage. :( ( But bishop can win for sure if the event is to heal a mop to its death~~)
Prize
Special Items (special like the Chrono musical weapon.. u won't drop it but u can trade it) with special abilities (SA different from those u can get on your weapon)~ E.g. Boots with wind walk SA. Ring with escape function(SoE ring). :) some Special Edition items that u can't craft or can't get as drop from mops.
Hey when C3 rolls around, how about custom furniture for clan and player housing! Yeah! .... Man, this rug really brings the room together . . . Hey, who let that Adena Inc. guy in here . . . MY RUG!
Um, this is not how we show interest in events, guys. Come on! Keep those suggestions coming and maybe this Coliseum event thing will happen. Ever think that we don't get many events because no one cares? Sure, you guys complain, but complaining, flaming, whining, and crying are not the same as showing interest in and supporting of recurring events. :D
I think the event should be available to those who have finished their first class change. Possibly have it so that on the day of the event(s) the mobs near all the roads that lead to the Collesium have spawned further from the road or set the aggro range low so the people of lower lvls can get there to watch the events. Its fun to participate yes, but what about those that just want to 'be' there. It's not as fun to watch on the Broadcasting Crystals plus I've had to forget watching sieges sometimes because I couldn't get close enough to the Crystal. :( I like the idea of 1v1 and mobs. But somebody had a really neat suggestion of 'recreating the epic battles in l2 history' I like that. Maybe use clans/allies to represent the opposing sides and who ever wins gets a prize for the clan and each member get a unique skin for the weapon/armor of their choice. Dueling a GM is also a very good idea. I would like nothing better than to watch GMs go down in flames! Talk about exciting, nail biting fun!
Or how about a stryder joust. K, here's the set-up, two toons duel one another to "win" a stryder. Say 20 people duel for 5 jousts. (Somebody check the math, it's after 3am and my brain aint what it should be) The winners each get a stryder to ride for the joust only. They get a prize that states they 'won' a stryder, and if they win the joust they get an additional prize. Maybe say at the end of a month the joust winners get to joust a GM of their choice (if said GM is online of course) At any rate, I view this more as a 'sporting event' and more of a braggin' rights thing and that everyone should be allowed to view/experience it first-hand. And that it should not be made so that only 40+ toons can participate.
How about a Battle Yourself event. It could either be 1v1 or a team event. I don't know if it is possible for the GMs to make a clone of your toon (with your name and something added on like... SoandSo's Doppleganger) and the two of you duke it out. A variation would be a team vs. team with every person in the original team cloned in the opposing team. In other words:
Tank
Healer
Buffer
DD1
DD2
etc.
vs
Tank's Doppleganger
Healer's Doppleganger
Buffer's Doppleganger
etc.
Would be creepy to fight yourself and your friends. ^^

Wasnt this in the movie Mortal Kombat where one of the players had to fight himself?
I think the whole coliseum even is a great idea! A lot of good suggestions, I personally favor the 'fight yourself: team battle' suggestion . Everything I can think have has been said, now lets see these idea's put into action :)
My continued thanks to everyone who has kept this thread filled with good ideas over time. I haven't had much time to comment as another event has been occupying my time of late, but I am still keeping an eye on it.
I'm as stoked (and I don't use that word often) to help run a coliseum event as you all are to be in one.
If we are going to have such nice events that everyone shall want to participate in, can we not also make it easier and faster to get to the coliseum? After all some of use have characters whose running speed is naught but a sick joke, and if we are to be able to actually participate in these events, we shouldn't have ot commit an hour of our game time just to get to the coliseum for an event that may or may not be shorter than the travel time to and back fromt he coliseum. By this of course I mean allowing the gate keepers to offer free or at least incredibly cheap teleportation from any town to the coliseum and then back to the town? Of course in this case, the teleportation might as well be limited to only allowing one to roam around the area of the coliseum, though I wouldn't mind being able to use this for cheap teleportation anywhere.
How bought 1 vs. Many where the defender gets a hp multiplier or mp multiplier, much like a raid boss. So a char with like 1000hp might now have 10,000hp
Then let the choas begin with something like 5-10 challengers per defender...like a raid battle! =]
Underneath the collesium have the cages, like 10 rooms where players can go to 1 on 1 without interference? It will help pass the time between sets for the arena fights.
Lions in the Coliseum...hmm...I can see some overtones in that...but nuts to that! Bring on the lions! Man, I'm so going to sack Harrington on the next play! :D
Bump! *Nudge, Nudge* Anymore suggestions ppl? Come on! Hey hows' about the winner of an event (any event) get a special "makeover". A new look on thier old gear.
I have a few ideas. Not so much for the event but nice add ons for the coliseum. How about a damage meter NPC.
You get buffed, go to the NPC. Talk to the npc and the timer starts after your 1st attack. Summons count as well. You have 1 minute to do as much damage as possible. It only counts your damage so helpers wont do any good.
After the minute is up the NPC announces your DOT for the 1 minute. Maybe total damage and highest damage hit. The npc can have a screen you can access to see who the top DD's on the server are.
I would like to take a Korean idea and basicly setup a nice little 10 min time slot on G4 Tech TV where some 4vs4 last man standing tournaments could be held in the collosium and broadcasted to G4 Tech TV. Something like that would fill the colloseums in no time, plus millions of people can watch your character kick butt on TV!
Aw come on! You're all thinking the same thing! :D
Anyway, official class tournaments would be interesting. One week have the Gladiators go at it, then maybe Shillien Knights the next. Are perhaps just have a completely open tournament every week with weight classes (lvl ranges). Bepook Class could be lv20-25 (I figure, anyone lower is probably still trying to get a handle on their character and turn out would be low especially considering where the Coliseum is) all the way up to the Antharas Class, 70-75. Heck, you could even turn into a league not unlike boxing where bouts are set up in advance.
Havent read a single thing in this thread so far so for forgive me if this has already been posted. This is regarding the prizes rather than the actual events but, how about legendary weapons for the winning clans/soloers? Or just legendary weapons in the game over all. For example a tournament could be held and the prize is "The sword of eternal flame" or something, and its the only one in the game, so it is not a sword of eternal flame it is THE sword of eternal flame. It could have its own special SA or just all around great stats (for its grade). Heck, perhaps the script writers could even write it into the legend.
New Idea:
Clans fight to gain clan levels, maybe add in clan level 6/7/8 etc.
Or have Clan Leaders duel to see which clan is better, something like that, add in the possibility of alliance levels, would be nice to improve clans and such through PvP
Well, Ash did tag "utmost importance" to it, so that tacked a year on any possible update. :D
Seriously though, it has been several months without an update. It's not like we're asking for character transfers here (and besides, you brought it up in the first place, ncsoft).
This was brought to my attention after someone suggested in the Game Suggestions that they should have free tele to Coliseum. I'm not so concerned about that as the potential this thing holds to have some cool events. So I'm bringing this one back :p
Granted we may not get an event out of this, and I'm sure the dwarves and healers would [censored] about how they can't compete anyway. Buuuuut I still felt compelled to bring it up.
I like the clans fighting for lvls one. Anything that could spur on further rivalries just has to be good. :D
NG bonanza: Make an alt to level 19 and soup him up with the best no grade out there and go for the jugular. full teams of 8 vs. 8 in a tournament structure.
Easy enough to make an alt to level 19 in a day or two so the response might be good for that one and might be kinda fun...

This one sounds awesome! I was trying to think of a lvl based tourney that wouldn't be taken advantage of by high lvls (ie a lvl 30 tourney and using ++++++equip). Also would funny as all get-out to watch all the no-graders whacking each other to death. One other strong point is that it would incorporate noobies. I like. :D
