pwned

Uber
I don't know if I can comment on where they originated, as they may be older then I think.
IIRC (If I Remember Correctly) pwned originated in Warcraft 2. When you got trounced by the AI (artificial Intelligence) the console displayed something like "PlayerX got pwned" (look on your keyboard, right next to P). Players started to imitate the typo and the rest is gaming history.
so nobody can tell me what "U.U" means? lol, i've seen that like three or four times now.
Maybe eyes shut like they are ignoring you or are tired????
Never seen that one...

T.T = crying
No.
"5" is pronounced as "wu" in Chinese, which is the same pronounciation as the word "cry" in Chinese. So 5555 means crying.
"9" is pronounced as "jiu" in Chinese, which is the same pronounciation as the word "help" in Chinese. So 9999 means help.
"8" is pronounced as "ba" in Chinese, which is a similar pronounciation as the word "bye" in Chinese. So 88 means bye bye.
"+" is pronounced as "jia" in Chinese, which means "give, add, etc." in Chinese. So +++ means "give me..., add ....". For example, "+++ HP" means add some hp to me which is asking for heal, "+++ buff" means give me some buff.
"=" is pronounced as "deng" in Chinese, which is the same pronounciation as the word "wait" in Chinese. So "==" means wait.
I said something nice to someone once and they said "awww U.U"
And i've seen it before, jus dunno what it is.
Its either a sad and/or sheepish look. And whoever said it before about it originating from Japanese Anime hit it on the head, you see it alot in anime chatrooms and such.
Didn't find U.U but here's a list of common *** smileys, it's pretty fun (and unfair as they have a lot cooler characters to play with): http://club.pep.ne.jp/~hiroette/en/facemarks/
Heh that was the reason I started this thread, I didn't know what CP meant, and I forgot to post the question.
Combat Points, a new PvP feature added in C3. You'll have a set amount of cp (using 1k for examples sake) so that if say a dagger uses mb on you for 500, instead of losing 500 hp you lose 500 cp, now if he does mb again and this time hits for 600, youll lose 500 cp and 100hp. Monsters bypass CP and hit hp directly.

Oh, and I forgot one more:
"=" is pronounced as "deng" in Chinese, which is the same pronounciation as the word "wait" in Chinese. So "==" means wait.
I remember reading a newspaper article about internet lingo and it reported that the term "woot" originated from the word "root" which was used by hackers for something like hacking into a system. Not quite sure as i had read it a while ago but I'm pretty sure it was something along those lines. Gonna try and find that article if I can.

That is correct. It is also why IT folks often refer to stupid problems solved like "user couldn't find the power button" or "user tried using the mouse like a remote control for a TV" as an I D ten T problem.
I hadn't seen that before, but like the guy earlier posted, I heard it had something to do with the 'got root' unix crowd of the 80s, popularized at MIT by the savy nerds of yesterday who lead the technology revolution of today.
Also commonly used in the US Military. We'd send new guys to personnell to ask for an ID10T form :)
And in the fleet we'd send them to the DC's to ask for bulkhead remover :) If you have any ship knowledge that one's pretty funny.

"9" is pronounced as "jiu" in Chinese, which is the same pronounciation as the word "help" in Chinese. So 9999 means help.
It is also, I am told, nearly identical for their sound for "dog", depending on context. By using it, you might be calling for help, or might be proclaiming yourself a dog. <shrug> I don't speak Chinese, couldn't tell you, and Gaelic does not acronymn well for anyone who doesn't speak it. Though neither does any other language, come to that.
Anyway.... here's a couple no one listed yet or that I didn't see....
SwS = SwordSinger
SpS = SpellSinger *or* SpiritShot
SS = alternate for SpellSinger
SOH = Song of Hunter (SwS group buff)
SOW = Song of Wind (SwS group buff)
SOE = Song of Earth (SwS group buff) also Sony Online Entertainment (context)
OL = Overlord (refers to both the PC class and the multitude of mobs with this suffix... Orc, Leto, etc.)
FWIW = For What It's Worth
FFS = For *****'s Sake! (the phrase is more common in the British Isles and Canada than the US I think)
I'm not sure who created the CIHYS? acronymn, though I have used it myself a couple times. Heck, maybe I started it, I dinnae...
Some I usually say, even if I saw same before with another signification...
SoeS : Staff of evil Spirit (and in C3 they added Area of Evil Spirit Loot or something like that... Between Gludio and Neutral zone)
SpS : Spellsinger
BBSpS : Blessed B Spiritshot
BSS : B SoulShot
WC : WarCryer (and NOT water closet penth !! :D)
CoL : Chant of Life, kind of party heal for WC
UE : Ultimate Evasion
BSoE/BSoR : Blessed Scroll of Escape/Resurrection
RT*M : Read The [Censored] Manual
Pker : No need to explain
Gunked : Getting ganked by 2 ppl when you're drunk and see 4 of them ;)
WTH : What the hell
OMG : oh my god !!
Omgwt*pwned : usefull to find out a certain category of players
hrhr : Imagine the sound of a (very) happy cat
SoDA : School of Dark Arts (renamed in C3 as Black Magic Laboratory or something like that -- High botting area)
DS : Dark Screamer/Demon Sword/Demon Staff sometimes
EWB/EAC : Enchant Weapon B/Armor C
GS : Great Sword
WH : Warehouse
1v1 : A one - one fight
ToI 10th : 10th floor of Tower of Insolence
BS : I'd rather think it means Blazing Swamp ^_^
CL : Crafted Leather
VoP : Varnish of Purity, not really comon
PC SoeS: Price check on a Staff of evil Spirit
VR/Emp : Vampiric rage/Empower
BTB/BTS : Bless the Body/Soul
MG/ML/MH : Mold Glue/Lubricant/Hardener
3333 : Para for me and hopefully for SEs too
Bish : Bishop, don't try to see anything else ;)
GTG also can mean Good To Go, meaning you're ready to go into action
Ding, I used this way back in EQ for leveling up, as the sound they used in that game sounded like a Ding :)
NFI - no further information i.e "Where do I find whats his name for quest X." Well...he is over near the old farm house to the South West of the Wastelands - NFI. Means like, don't call me with or ask me a bunch of questions about the topic later. I gave all the information I have. I am not holding anything back - you have all that I know.
ATT - at this time
ASAP - Dunno if it was said but had to be. As Soon As Possible.
UTM - Universal Transverse Mercator Map Coordinate System. In my clan we use the handy grid lines on the map to get locations for each other in the 6 digit format. Works great if you can teach the civilians in the clans to use it in by typing the instructions.
GRID - Ask for ones location, can be followed by a question mark for clarity but usually not needed.
BOHICA - Bend over here it comes again, Used when one is about to be screwed over, usually in a predictable and repetitive way. In l2 used to indicate an unavoidable situation i.e. having to fight through a room that sucks on your way to a good spot, or when about to encounter a known greif clan or party in a hunting spot - a general warning that trouble is on the way. A PKer, trainer etc.
HMFIC - Head mother [Censored] in charge - Clan leader
BF or Blue Falcon - Used to refer to someone (usually a freind) leaves you hanging or screws you over - (un) or intentionaly is not a factor. Used in L2 when someone forgets to heal, buff or stops thier job to run to save themselves etc.
Roger - yes
WILCO - ok, I will do as you have said/asked/explained
There are more but we have some a lot of military - x/former military so they work for us.
Just for the ones who posed thier questions about certain, hard to get military items; perhaps you cen help me locate the following:
A can of Squelch
A blank addapter for my 4.2 inch mortar
Shake that tree over there so I can see where we are on the map, if not help me look for the grid lines (however, this is old map so one might have to dig - lol)
It has always been "pz" for me. So if you party with me, and you get paralyzed, and I don't notice right away, shout "PZ!" Usually, as the previous poster, I will notice right away, as I know the animations of the mobs when they cast it, I will look at all buff bars as they cast.
But anyway, I have a question.
Does anyone know what people mean when they type "yyyyyyyyyyy" ? I can't even begin to guess what it means. (It's not "why" - that wouldn't fit into the context I've seen it in). I'll be really impressed if anyone knows.
Amazing! But I think you forgot some, or I didnt see them in list :

I heard w00t originated in Rogue Spear, like "we own other team"
Truth be told, woot was being said in UO, and in Quake 1. That term goes back even to a few MUDS that were played. Not really gonna find it's origin, kinda like trying to find out when and where exactly people started saying the.
"10x" has always annoyed the hell out of me... -tenex.. how's that thanks? I guess it makes sense in Bulgarian, but it sure as hell don't in any other language I know.
Sorry about the rant.. But that's an abbriviation that just really makes me cringe.
I had an se clannie that would not take regen for meaing recharge my mana she made me ask for mana kisses. and on top of that she was insisten about it. i died a few times cus i did not ask for mana kisses i asked for regen. lol but its fun i dont mind dieing
Read through whole 7 pages of acronyms and im not that much smarter about 2 of them -
OP
OOP - i MAY guess that its "out of party buffer"
but the OP is still confusing. Explaaaaain plix :)
Nice avatar :p

Recently I came across another of the many ways of saying thanks; 10q. I have to say it makes more sense than 10x - but not much. But annoys me far les than "10x".
In "newer" L2 time, people (shop titles) have begun abbreviating blessed spiritshot to "BSS". I twitch every time I see this. Why can't people just keep the old "bsps" abbreviation? BSS already means B grade SS. It sounds like a really petty complaint, I know. But it really bugs me  And I'd rather buy slightly more expensive bsps from a shop that advertises it as bsps and not BSS.
And I'd rather buy slightly more expensive bsps from a shop that advertises it as bsps and not BSS.
Ahh, I hate that too...
Another thing that annoys me is when they use the terminology with grades at the end, like "SSD" for soulshot D-grade or "BSpSC" for blessed spiritshot C-grade. I think I've been damaged by endless hours of tech studies, since I find beauty in uniformity and stringency...

I'd better write 'WTS SSA' rather then 'WTS ***'. Sounds weird, especially when seller is DE female :o
At the end makes more sense since it avoids the confusions with BSpSB. :p But of course, everyone should stick to what is normal on their server - this is one thing that certainly varies.

Yes I did this once without thinking - as a BD female shouting in ally chat "I can't find *** anywhere anyone sell me some" caused some hillarity.

I'd call it B Bsps :)
When I was a young orc, everyone would put the grade first, so everything else seems wrong for me.

Maybe a + could be added at the end of the ones which can be confused with other things. + representing high level :)
All this new acronyms are killing my head most of them are repeated like ss and gk and sm why don't we keep the second class change names and put like something next to them refering to the 3rd class change like... SH3? for storm screamer? an idea maybe it's a bad one I don't know...
P.S. aaaw Maline you changed your avatar? I liked the orc one a little better it was a nice pic.
im sorry but after working so hard to get 3rd class change, i dont even respond to my friends who still call me a blade dancer.
i am a Spectral Dancer, dont go calling me a BD anymore ><
....even tho it is more work to say "Spectral Dancer" than "BD"

Also known as ID10T
Im pretty sure the whole ID10T was around long before IT techs started using it, my uncle was fond of using it on his new soldiers telling them to go find and fill out the ID10T form for the platoon sgt- and that was back in Viet. war, which he said he got from some old soldier when HE first got in, and its still used in the army today.
WILCO - ok, I will do as you have said/asked/explained
WILCO is radio-speak and short for "will comply." Usually heard following orders given via radio .... "Roger, WILCO, Out."
I can't believe I'm looking through these again. :p
Note- dont say roger before Wilco.... :-) so many Army folks, do this but its wrong.. Check your manual if your army, its bad radio "etiquette" (sp?) Especially considering Roger is a form of saying "ok, affirmative, will-do" etc. etc. and Wilco is saying the same thing. Its like saying "Sahara Desert" means Desert Desert. Just say Sahara! lol
Some old acronyms & Abbrev.:
DVC - Dragon Valley Cave (prelude/c1 term)
Premo Room - Room with premo's in it in Cruma (fought over a lot)
WW - Wind walk (I used to run town to town to save money from teleports)
FG - Forbidden Gateway
Tri Room - Place in DVC that meets at 1 point of 3 different rooms (only old retail players would know this one)
Heart - the very end of DVC where you port to antharas
