A result of the Name Scam thread in General. The longer I think about it, the more I reckon this gets to the key of the imposting issue the best.
PMs from clan members, alliance members and people on friendslist should be colour coded seperately from other whispers in the chat window. Create an option to allow the player to automatically let this type of message pop up in friend list type sub-window, too.
This is I think one of the most viable solutions to the name scam, easy to implement and easy to use. Please guys take this one into consideration, there would be many grateful players here.
Hey Sarge if you see this thread could you tell us how feasible it is to get something like this implemented? Perhaps NCSoft doesn't want to make it easier to avoid being scammed by Siycutter, I'm not sure how they feel about it. Personally I think this scam is not quite under the same idea as the scams involving buy/sell shops and whatnot. Anyway some sort of word on this would be nice :D
Last night as I was playing one of my friends from the list popped up this private chat window to talk to me. I was surprised as I had never seen it and he told me it was the MSN messenger. I was under the impression that could only be used if you are signed on with MSN messenger. Apparently, that is not the case?
If so, couldn't that somehow be implemented in this scheme. The system already is in place and this is an awesome idea.
In order to message people on your MSN list you must sign in to MSN. Although, when you open the MSN window, there is a friend tab so that you can send MSN styled messages to anyone on your friendlist.
So its just using the MSN interface to send messages from a friendlist. I take it people who are NOT on your friendlist couldn't message you that way. If so, could that interface be expanded to include clan members? That would seem to also take care the communication aspects of the scam.
Just another thought if the color coding thing doesn't pan out.
Yea, the only thing I hate about the MSN messenger is that it takes up mucho room on my screen which kina stinks. I will admit though that my experience with it is limited to I think one time just trying it out on the PTS. I'm not sure how many people use it but maybe someone who does could give us some more info on that.
- It's easier to read than my rather lengthy friendlist (no scrolling through offline members, thank you!)
- I never miss a F-List whisper even if a lot of party-/clan-chat is going on (I don't have a seperate tab just for whispers)
- I can't get chatmuted.
It is natural to me - but people don't use it, just like people don't use any of the basic security checks that are second nature to me.
I think if it isn't something that's rubbed in people's faces they'll ignore it. A garish re-colouring should do the trick.

I only ask that my idea be interwoven with hers. So my 3 pages of work will not be in vain.
Well I waited awhile before posting here because I thought simply being irritating about it would get me no-where. This has surfaced again in the general forums though....so time to bring it back up. Any idea on the feasability of this being put in for C4?

link it to this thread splatter, rather, put a link to your idea into this thread so the two are always connected
I use the chat to friends interface at times, but it's so large, and can't be resized, it's a pain in the backside to have around while hunting. Sure in towns I don't mind but when my toon's life is on the line I don't like to use it. And also having to minimise it in order to use clan chat etc is a pain too.
Definately something I'd like to see in C4, along with a way to turn off trade in the trade channel so I can use it for PM's alone.
