Success Rate for Over-Enchant

I was looking through the official Korean L2 website and stumbled upon this particular information. As far as I know, it seems that the NA/Europe L2 community is not aware that there is a published official number for the success rate of over-enchanting. In fact I wasn't aware of it until recently, and I wonder how long they had this info on their website.
Anyways it said that you have a 1/3 chance of crystallizing the item or in other words 2/3 chance of a successful enchant. And this goes for weapons, armors and accessories(jewellery).

And if anyone doubts my claim;
Here's the link:
http://www.lineage2.co.kr/common/sense/senseView.asp?index=6

Its best if you can read and understand Korean because I tried using babelfish translator and it turned out funny, but u can still make out the part that says probability of failure=1/3 (well sort of).

[edit] I would like to add one more thing. How come NC Austin didn't publish this info on their website? I've looked everywhere on this site and didnt find it.
Nice find. :D
Thank you MalineII. I'm overly proud that I could help .... 1 person. :p
This is cool, i'll paste a link on another thread about it...

TY
Nice find! If this is right I have about... 6 free over enchants!

WTS Crystals.
WTB Luck.
WTB Lance...

It's not just the OEs.
Good find :D

PK?
Just saying a 70% chance doesn't always work out to a 70% success rate, especially in a small sample.

Same as 60% chances.
And thus ends the greatest mystery left in the L2 world.

Well, at least for english speakers :)
To me the biggest mystery has always been BW heavy on DE females, but let's not go there.

I think there are still many areas that we don't know about which would be interesting: for example Cubic trigger (experience suggests that the prima guide is wrong about this)
and Magic fail rate calculation.
Hmmm... maybe it's just me, but my friends and I have known it was a 1/3 failure rate since Open Beta. Maybe the info just got lost somewhere. ;)

On a related note, there is consistantly more accurate and useful information on the official Korean site than there has ever been on the NA site. I just wish I could read Korean. I am always very appreciative and in debt to the people who translate and repost this information for us. :D
err can i get that in english please? all that appears is ?'s.
The chance for success actually works out to be about 65%, so your failure rate is 35%.

Last night, on my very first OE attempt ever, I was in that 35% group. I also found out something I didn't know - you don't get the full crystal value of the item back when it breaks. I got 1779 D crystals for duals that would normally give 3018. That's barely over half. So, 2m duals + 2m scrolls = 1m crystal? Just because I wanted to try and enchant it to +4?

That's not right.

The OE success rate, I think, should be high on the low end and low on the high end.

Hmmm... maybe it's just me, but my friends and I have known it was a 1/3 failure rate since Open Beta. Maybe the info just got lost somewhere. ;)

Yeah I was given that info when I first started playing, though for the life of me I cannot remember where I got it from. (Started playing in March of 2005)

If you both had that info in open beta, then it was wrong back then, and it was wrong during Prelude as well. Check Chronicle 1 notes where the success rate CHANGED:

"Enchanting weapons and armor now has a better chance for success.
- The probability for success has been doubled when using a scroll of enchant weapon on an enchantment level of three or higher.
- The enchant effect has been tripled when using a scroll of enchant armor successfully on an enchantment of level three or higher.
- When successfully crystallizing an enchanted item of level four or higher, the quantity of additional crystals has been doubled. This increase also applies when receiving crystals from an unsuccessful enchant.
* These rules are applied retroactively to already existing enchanted items."
Yea... My experiences with Over-enchanting...

Brig +3 to +4 - failed

Staff Of Life +3 - +4 - succeed
Staff Of Life +4 - +5 - succeed
Staff Of Life +5 - +6 - succeed
Staff Of Life +6 - +7 - succeed

Staff Of Life +5 - +6 - succeed
Staff Of Life +6 - +7 - succeed
Staff Of Life +7 - +8 - failed

2 out of 8 failed

25% for me so far :P

I find things tend to fail the second I break my ritual. Now saving money to make another SoL +7 and try leapfrogging them to +16 with my ritual.

Why?

Because... I can try :P

::Runs around town:: Gib me dena plz mstr!!!!
Actually you should do this with the lowest C weapon instead top D. Top D only gains 4 matk per overenchant while low C gains 6. A +16 staff of life will be nice to look at but not really that great. A +16 low C weapon will have matk that you can well use all the way to 75. Even a +8 low C will be more useful than a +16 top D (and only use 2 sps).

Some people just like to pretend they "know" more than everybody else.

Before this the info was never made official.
Low C still costs more to use than a top D - and of course can't be used from 20 to 40. ;)

Also, if you're going to go for economy when enchanting: I'd wager spending the AA to upgrade to an SF dirk would be well worthwhile. It looks cool, and it's the highest 2SS tier weapon.
I just linked to this thread from a question in Player Question section, and noticed the original posters link to the korean site no longer works. Can any korean speaking person find us the new location maybe ? :)

Yea would like a updated link :)
(heard this from a clannie)

there was a QnA with a korean developer. he stated that every item thats enchantable has its own OE limit. therefore, not all weapons are 70% (or was it 60?) for going +4. every item has its own limit. u might be holding onto a weapon that can enchant to 12 while you keep it at +4.
Safe enchants to +12, hmm...

Pardon me, but I almost tripped on your leg there. It seems to have been pulled quite a distance.

I highly doubt this when the official Korean site states that the success chance is 2/3, always.

So i have the same chance of enchanting a +4 as a +14 ?

Yes.

The chance of going from +3 to +4 is the same as the chance for enchanting a +13 to +14. On the other hand, the chance of going from +3 to +4 is far better than of enchanting a +3 weapon up to +14 (because you would need several successful enchants, each with a 2/3 success chance). +3 to +4 is 66.6% success rate, +3 to +14 is 1.1%

I very highly doubt this story about each item having its own OE limit. Simply because it would be more complicated than necessary. Why would the devs put in another field in each database record just to store the OE limit? It would be a waste of disk storage space on the server, a waste of memory when the server has to juggle around millions of items in memory and it would mean extra CPU time each time an item is created (to create a random OE limit). All that when you simply can roll a random number and compare it to the 66% chance each time somebody actually uses an enchant scroll. How does the saying go? "KISS - keep it simple, stupid". Why make it more complicated than it has to be?

Same as the myth about recipes which are pre-determined to be "failures" or not when they are created and that this is why they do not stack (because "they are not the same, some are successful recipes and others failures"). Well, in C4 recipes will be stackable, so there goes that theory...
Each item having its own OE limit (fixed upon generation) used to be the case early on in the game - prelude or C1.

People exploited this by overenchanting when they knew the server would roll back a little, trying to test out their item's limit.

It has since been fixed.

ETA: :) If you look at all the damage formulas, I'm sure you'll agree that there are plenty of things in game which do not follow the KISS rule at all.

I do not think that had anything to do with a fixed OE limit. They simply overenchanted until it broke or reached the desired OE. If it broke, they stayed in game until the server got downed (and rolled back), if they got what they wanted, they logged out (and saved the state of the item by doing that). And I guess if the item broke, they simply tried overenchanting the same item at the next downtime. I never heard of any fixed OE limit, just of the rollback exploit (i.e. they did not exploit an OE limit, they exploited the fact that the server downtime was always at a time known down to a few seconds, which now is no longer the case).

Yes, true. But a fixed OE limit generated on item creation just makes no sense. What use would it be? It would be a useless feature. If you want to keep the number of overenchanted items down, simply lower the chance of OE success. Fixed OE limit is on the same "clever programming" level as generating five million infernium ore quest bingo tables for each player character as soon as a new character is created (and then storing those five million bingo tables in the database) so that you do not have to randomly create a bingo table each time somebody does the quest.
Fixed OE limits make sense if you don't want to randomise something every time a scroll is used - chances are depending on how much OEing is beign done, you'll have an easier time with a fixed limit.

And no, IIRC the problem was that the server would definitely roll back a little (so no logging out to 'keep' your item), but you'd be able to log back in and start enchanting up to your safe limit after it went down.

But I'm not exactly deep into the details, as I never even had the money for an EAD at the time. :)

ETA: I will try to dig around for the link - but don't get your hopes up. :[ The new site is really confusing.

Yep, same for me - I was still in the "lvl up to 20 and then reroll because you do not like the class" phase back then :)

Still, it goes against everything I heard about that exploit. But who cares, it's history anyway and now we definitely DO have the 66% chance and no max OE limit per item.
hm... if that's the case then how come i never got to overenchant anything everything i've enchanted from +4 onwards blew up :( does that mean that my luck really sucks :(
Yes, it does. :D
Yeah, my luck isn't too good either. Right after C3 came out tried to take dual SORs to +4, boom, Ghoul Staff to +4, boom. More recently I had three sets of demon fangs because I was trying to get one of them up to +10, one broke going from +3 to +4, the next from +4 to +5, I finally got the last one up to +7, but didn't dare try anymore. Either way was far fewer crystals than it should have been.

Any methods to increase chances on OE?
well, i havent tried it, but:

use a SS and an SPS then unequip and OE.

i have known folks to take consecutive shots at +11 that way
Do you do that with each enchant after three, or just once at +3 and go for it?

Just curious... I might get some demon fangs and try again, go the cheap way... hehe

with each ench after 3, yes. and at 3.
Just enchanted my Elven/Bastard dual to +6 today, first try. I'm scared to try for a +7 though because I like them so much. I'm only a level 31 oracle, so I won't get much better until C class.

That's what I run in to as well, from level 30-40 is the worse gind I've experienced (except for level 51-52 and level 60-61 <-- those are kinda like going from 30-40 i.e. about the same lenght of time) My +7 107s are doing well for my newest charater and I'm really wanting to get to lvl 40 (it's going to be an OL and if I like it the toon my become my new main - I got lucky and now have a +9 top c to level with at 40  )
well i enchanted 100's of weaps on PTS. arcana mace aint 66%. neither is som or any mage weap. period.
