Arrowhead Run Rules and Guidelines
You may complete the Arrowhead Run by taking any path of your choosing as long as you purchase (1) one Bone Arrow from the specified Traders in the exact order listed above. Using buffs (such as Wind Walk, Song of Wind, or potions) are allowed.
Please note: Use of the following are considered illegal and will nullify your run:
* Wyverns
* Striders
* Gatekeepers
* Returning to Village upon death
* Scrolls of Escape (all kinds), Return, Party Recall, or any other skill that teleports you immediately to town
* The /unstuck command
Only one character per account will be eligible for a prize. You may attempt the run multiple times, but only your first successful run of the event will count. A successful run includes the purchase of all 9 arrows in order without performing an illegal action. If you do perform an illegal action as outlined above, you may still attempt the Arrowhead Run again, from the beginning, until you succeed. Your total run time will include any time spent offline as well should you be forced to log out.
Ok.. what gives... let me guess.. NA is not getting C4, NC will be eliminating several character classes (and I'm sure we will all be pleasantly surprised at which will be the first to go) Or you need to put everyone back at lvl 5 dues to "issues".
Otherwise... THANKS... seems cool.
Now to wait for the few who will have issues with SR's with Windwalk 3 and "Antsinthepants" 4 :D
George Gipp
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
George "The Gipper" Gipp (February 18, 1895 December 14, 1920) was a famous college football player who played for the University of Notre Dame.
Born in Laurium, Michigan, he entered Notre Dame intending to play baseball for the Fighting Irish, but was recruited by Knute Rockne for the football team, despite having no experience in organized football. During his Notre Dame career, Gipp rushed for 2,341 yards and threw for 1,789. A versatile player, Gipp scored 21 touchdowns, averaged 38 yards a punt, and gathered 5 interceptions as well as 14 yards per punt return and 22 yards per kick return in four seasons of play for the Irish.
Gipp died 14 December, 1920, two weeks before being elected Notre Dame's first All-American by Walter Camp. The apocryphal story of Gipp's death begins when he returned from a night out to Notre Dame's campus after curfew. Unable to gain entrance to his residence, Gipp went to the rear door of Washington Hall, the campus' theatre building. Gipp was a steward for the building, and knew that the rear door was often unlocked. Gipp usually spent such nights in the hall. On that night, however, the door was locked, and Gipp was forced to sleep outside. By the morning he had contracted pneumonia, and eventually died from a related infection. It is more likely that Gipp contracted strep throat and pneumonia while giving punting lessons after his final game, on 20 November against Northwestern.
It was on his hospital bed that he delivered the famous, but possibly fictional, "win just one for the Gipper" line. The full quotation from which the line is derived is:
I've got to go, Rock. It's all right. I'm not afraid. Some time, Rock, when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go in there with all they've got and win just one for the Gipper. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock. But I'll know about it, and I'll be happy.
Rockne used the story of George Gipp, along with this deathbed line that he attributed to Gipp, to rally his team to an underdog victory over the undefeated Army team of 1928.
He was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame on December 14th, 1951, at 3:27 AM, in memory of the time and date of Gipp's death. George Gipp Memorial Park was dedicated on August 3, 1935, in his home town.
The phrase "Win one for the Gipper" was later used as a political slogan by Ronald Reagan, who in 1940 portrayed Gipp in Knute Rockne, All American and was often referred to as "The Gipper".
Every event has some form of prejudice against a certain class and people will inevitably whine about it. I really don't understand why the whining starts even before the event starts. Just for once can't we enjoy something without [censored]??
I'll be participating anyway... the fireworks will be my prize of choice since I usually go for the offbeat prizes. :)

You're too paranoid, Sovrath. Trust me, any unpleasant occurences that this series of NA-specific events is designed to distract from are meant solely for YOU.
Wait.. I guess you're not too paranoid, then.... :)
Well since I don't have a toon fast enough to be in the running for this one, I'll grab an alt and do some town gate stunning/slowing just to add to the challenge :D

I'm of the opinion that this event discrimiantes against NOBODY if you know shortcuts to get to where you need to be. I think it will be fine. I'll do it just for the fireworks.
My SR with +5 dex tats +3 Dex from doom set and Sprint 2 has a run speed of 199, add song of wind and its 219 run speed. Fast, but no match for a strider buffed.
I guess it makes sense that in C4 we might be getting Town SOEs, so people won't be doing much more running around. So after this event, people will really appreciate town SOEs.
This event reminds me too much of 2nd class transfers and the wishing potion quest though.
Ok, instead of bashing the event, there's always an angle to make some money on it.
I know what my wife will be doing: WTS ww2 10K
I will rent out my elven mith set to trustworthy SR's that I know.
So I wonder what the top speed of an SR with +5DEX, ww2, elven mith? (with stryder) - does soul of wind stack with ww2?
The other thing to consider is that clans can get together and get their fastest member, buff him, give him whatever he/she needs and essentially treat that member as if he/she were their very own race car.
An SR/PW with a stryder, and a swordsinger slave to sing for him and soe/tele between the towns to keep up. Stryder runspeed is proportional to rider speed, right? So if the SR/PW got song of wind on him/her - it should be slightly faster, right? ^^
Oh, and do the stryders gain runspeed when they level, or was that a myth? Cause then you'll need a max level one too - and of course total knowledge of the best paths to take :)
(not to mention that capped out DEX and a run speed robeset of course - +7 runspeed should be slightly more than +3 additional DEX give such a character?)
An idea would have been to have a set time when the race has to start for everyone - then it would be more movie like and you could PK your competition during the race, more like L2 imo :]
The whole strider thing. It's not really a running event if you have a strider. It's just a strider event. Some classes don't even have a chance (e.g. Orcs, dwarves, humans, and um Orcs). I don't play an Orc, but I do know how terribly slow they are.
I do agree with the posts saying the event would be better as a "Best of Class" as it would encourage all classes to get involved. I would even accept smaller prizes for the chance of having one person from each class win.
I'm still gonna try my hardest to win something, but my little stumpy legs can only run so fast. I'll just have to stun all the stiders (or get some clannies to slow em down). Sigh....I hate have to sink into such nasty tactics. But it does remind me of some movies...
Can I please borrow some Adena to buy those 9 Bone Arrows? I am broke... ;)
HeHe - I thought for sure I would see someone complaining that they have to buy something for the event. LOL
*********************
Well, a lot of the questions above I have been wondering also-
What armor is the fastest run speed?
Does the level of the strider vs. the character riding it make a difference?
Does the type of strider - Star, Wind, Twilight make a difference?
Who will be the first person to map out the fastest route?
How many people will crash their computers and not even be able to finish, because of the old Memory Leak Problem they say doesn't exist? :(
This phrase confuses me.. "You may attempt the run multiple times, but only your first successful run of the event will count." So, as long as you don't buy that last arrow in Gludin, you have not completed the run officially? Well, I guess you just wonder if that exact time would be your best time overall.
How many people will crash their computers and not even be able to finish, because of the old Memory Leak Problem they say doesn't exist? :(
*Doh!* I totally forgot about that. I have 2GB of RAM, and I cannot cross Aden without at least one L2 crash. Never could on 3 different hardware setups come to think of it.
Still, as a dwarf with no strider, I should stop caring now.
I have to say this event sucks.. The person who will win will obviously:
Be a SR
Own a Strider
Wearing +Dex tats
Wearing +Speed armour
So all in all be a rich player with a twinked, if they aren't already, SR.
Orcs and dwarves just have no chance. Myself being a DE i dont see myself doing that well either, although we have the best notural speeds im not going to waste time and money spamming ww2 pots for a very slim chance.
Rest will be picked up by SR's, but Archers fall below those two. (Tyrants be iffy since Rabbit has a semi cool down period, but if you time it right it'll work)
Sweet!!! I like fireworks! Shure the SR with WW3 and a strider is gonna get first...except they forgot one thing. I have this new handy dandy cape that we got in C3 that no one knows about that can make your character fly!!! SO I WIN....!!!!! Then all will die when I fly around with my cape shooting off fireworks...mwhaha... :D
Fun even none the less. I actually thought of something like this about 6 months ago...I think NCsoft has hired phycics to steal peoples ideas...
oh yeah, lots of people will complain that they're not an SR with a strider and how they wont have fun blah blah blah.
cool, simple event imo.
I am not going to complain about not having any fun. I always enjoyed the fireworks in lineage 1. But any idiot with half a brain can see how one sided this event is going to be and we have every right to complain about that aspect of it.
I remember criticisms of prior events complaining that not everyone could win, or that only a few could win good prizes. In this event, everyone can win a 'consolation prize,' and that prize is a unique item (fireworks pack.) Looks good to me.
Although NCSoft has not said there will be anything 'special' along the route, you just never know about this.... The posts seem to indicate that some players are thinking about adding their own 'special content' to the route. (PlayerA: "Ohhh, here comes XXPlayerXX. He's just too fast... What does 'shackle' do to a buffed strider?") (PlayerB: "Anyone casting shackle dies like a zabrikian warthog elder.")

You can't windshackle random players, they have to be flagged. Try playing the game more and playing the boards less.
well, i'm going to do the run on both my de chars for the fireworks...and the rest of the weekend, i'll have my se posted at some town buffing....(for a nominal fee..unless you are a personal friend)
i know i won't win, but i want fireworks!!!
hell, i did the noob town quests for the theme of battle crystals....4 times..coz my bf loves that crystal.
i still have all my goofy weapons..chronos etc..
so however it turns out..it turns out.
just enjoy the free goodies.
qutzi
(the short legged dorf who will not be competing..)
WW2 ftw
My SR with Elven Mithril Set, +5 dex, strider and ww2 has 231 run speed. With sws buff, she has 251. I have a 55 dusk and 55 wind strider, both add +30 speed for any of my characters (it's a fixed increase, not a ratio based on character's speed). I highly doubt that higher level striders increase speed more, sounds like a rumor to me.
WTHire SwS on Devianne for an hour this weekend, 500k! ^_^
Can anyone provide specific details on Tyrants and their rabbit totem? What is their max speed with the elv mith armor, strider, ww2, and +5 dex? With haste2, can they get away with 0 cooldown time for reusing rabbit totem?
I'm of the opinion that this event discrimiantes against NOBODY if you know shortcuts to get to where you need to be. I think it will be fine. I'll do it just for the fireworks.
Your opinion is wrong.
Every SwS/SR I know of that plans on participating has already planned out a path for this run. When they know the same shortcuts that, say, a dwarf knows, then it becomes blatantly obvious that the event is tailored to Swordsingers and Silver Rangers.
And in response to UkTheOrc, the reuse timer is at least a few minutes long on Rabbit when using Haste2. You won't have anything to worry about...
There has never been such an event where the vast majority of classes are exempt from the beginning. Well, I shouldn't say that. At least us Humans, Orcs, Dwarfs, and Dark Elves still get fireworks. Thanks, NCSoft, for this slap in the face.
...Not even going to care....not even going to try.
I AM NOT RUNNING ALL OVER THE MAP AGAIN!
Doing the L20/40 quests 3 times already is more than enough for me to say no to a couple of measly fireworks.
(Stupid Speed Bias also means I will NEVER win unless every other race/char fails to do the event.) - Event Status: FAILED before it started to me.
Now if you had to have the runners register beforehand and us 'slowbies' could bet on the 'winners'....well then we got a 'race' event that lets everyone participate...
yeah this event sucks... to even have a chance at this competition... you need...
a SR/PW to do the initial run
a swordsinger to port to each town and sing for you
highest speed setup, +5 dex and (mithril robes/doom robes)? i suppose doom light would be ok too (elven mithril is +1 speed more than doom light gives)
and you need a strider, did i mention that? talk about giving already rich (ebayers) even more rewards!
and with the short time frame of the event you might even need clanmates to run with you to fend off the pkers.

I completely agree. This competition on all the servers is going to be won be either a SR, SWS, or PW. Let's make the next event based on whoever can craft the most DSS in one hour! Other classes can use craft shops from willing dwarves so it will be fair.
Who in the world made up this crappy event. Did someone sit and say to themselves. "hmm how can I anger 70% of the game population by excuding them from an event. Lets see if I give First place 20 mil in prizes and then give any other sucker worthless fireworks. Yeah thats fair"
This shame of an event sits below the Valentines day one.

then the bountyhunters would complain their class isn't getting enough love and instantly want an event based on how many mobs they can successfully spoil in an hour!
Well my initial impression is that I can't get vivid because their is a consolation prize, so even if you know you can't win, you can still get some fireworks for participating in the event. So that much is aty least ok, classes that will obviously have 0 chance of winning can still get something.
But because some classes and races obviously have 0 chance of winning, I find ai cannot be happy with the event at all. No one can doubt that there exists a huge discrepancy between running speeds of differing races and classes, and even between similar classes. NOw with no proportional time scaling, none may doubt that only those classes who are overly fast could ever have been thought of as having a chance of no winning.
So even though their is something to be earned just for participating, this is strongly outweighed by the obvious fact that only one or two classes have a chance at winning, a set further reduced by seperating out those who have striders and those who do not. What we are left with is a small set of players who have striders, and are silver rangers, swordsingers or monks. Everyone else has not chance, and this is obvious.
Now an easy way to fix this problem is to scale the time according to run speed. Under this method, a player's run speed divided could be used ot determine the adjustment that would be made to their time, in order to take into account the differance in running speeds, and allowing all players to complete against every other palyer based solely on how straight their course is.
And because I've burned myself out ranting about NCSoft's incompetence, I choose to do this event for the fireworks anyway. And those fireworks had better be [censored] fun :D
yawn...um what i thin...yawn
is this the dumbest idea ever or what?
man neither my sps nor my dorf is gonna bother
i'll wait till c4 when i can get the fireworks alot easier than doing second job change again
this stinks of the most corrupt - ebay happy - huge alliance owning - overpowered class loving event ever
geez what can i say?
guess the rich get richer huh
Sounds ok, would have been alot cooler if it was a race within each class, so it would be the best SE, the best SH, the best Bounty Hunter, etc.
Yeah thats what came to my mind when I read the price distribution. Would have been better to reward the best three of every class... would have made things umm a bit more fair
Yeah that would make more sense. My main is a human mystic, slow even with WW2 and +4 dex tats. No strider. My second highest is a soon to be BH. Come on.
Who in the world made up this crappy event. Did someone sit and say to themselves. "hmm how can I anger 70% of the game population by excuding them from an event. Lets see if I give First place 20 mil in prizes and then give any other sucker worthless fireworks. Yeah thats fair"

You disgust me. Its a game for christ sake. You act like NCSoft is giving tax breaks to the rich or something. Go complain somewhere that matters.
Run! RUN! rUn!
Hahaha i laugh at all that take this evenT so seriously... get over your wide loads for buttocks and just go along with the event  where's the harm accept 35 mins of your time
This event is almost as bad as the Olympic Event where you collected items while hunting and the race with the most items at the end won. It wasn't a contest, as most farmers were DEs at the time.
Yes, this event should be for each class or at least each race.
Ok maybe I am reading into this but this is from the patch notes today, "The Badge of Rabbit, Badge of Hyena, Badge of Fox, and Badge of Wolf will remain in the Quest inventory." from the medal event.
Will all classes who completed a certain level in the medal event get special buff bonuses for their race based on which badge they have?
Something to think about. It is hard to believe that they designed a follow-up event for the medal event that only favored one class......

Fo ****zle my nizzle drizzle. I got a DE Mage and no Stryder but I still think this will be fun. CONSOLATION PRIZE FTW!!!!
Consolation Prize (All event participants)
Firework Pack, including Elven Firecrackers and Fireworks!
although i like how events let the server live up, that one appears to be the most imprudent i've seen so far:
-taking what really is least fun in L2: travelling across the map, from which you SO have enough after a single 2nd-class quest (even as fast SR it's still extremely annoying)
-then allowing to use a strider (which only very few have access to) while disallowing anything else (what's the deal about excluding striders? too hard to implement?)
-spicing it up through setting a whole bunch of classes out the door
good job....on another no-brain event (see previous farming events)
WTB Quests for perma-free porting (level and quest-advancement-level based)
WTB 50% more speed for everyone
p.s: how do you want to make sure, people didn't port or scroll?
Honestly, who is going to drag their [censored] around for two hours just for fireworks which will probably have the same animation as a waking scroll?
the base problem (and its like that in almost every aspect in lin2) is not the fact that some ppl posess a strider.
the problem is that 80-90% either got them by using the exploit or ebaying.
if you would have spend month and month in c1-c2 to lvl a hatchling with its 70% xp loss on death i feel you have every right to own it and be faster then other classes (since thats about all benefit you get from owning one)

those parties gain xp faster than anyone else and a stryder is a requirement not a bonus
But I don't see how you can win this event alone. You need the help of all your clan / alliance. In such a case the reward is a bit small, and solo players are again losers.
To allow alone players to participate, it would have been great to create multiple rewards :
- best runner by class and/or race, to allow non elf characters to earn something else than the consolation prize
- best runner by level range (No grade, D Grade, ...), for a level 60 doesn't really need EAD...
- best runner other all (greatest prizes),
And why doing this event only during the WE ? I rarely play during the WE (I suppose I am not the only one) and I won't be able to help my clan or play the event myself. I had the same problem with most of the previous events.

This event should be week-long, period. Not 2 days.
We already knew any level 75 SRs Fully Buffed will rule the day especially once they are on the L2 ___ [got censored, so I used ____] mode, their run-mode will be flawless. :)
Well, who knows? Rules are probably already made by the Devs so everyone has good chance to succeed and win the 30M+ first price. And they are not telling us about it. Lets wait and see.
Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing. Maybe once you buy the first bone arrow, you get a special 'buff' that makes all contestant's speeds the same. Then upon soe, port, return to village, the 'buff' goes away - your speed gets returned to 'default', and of course are disqualified.
As far as overcoming the 'first' completed run vs 'best', guess the best thing to do is do the run a few times, to get a feel for how long it will take, and don't buy the last arrow until you think you have your personal best.

Lol, that would be pretty funny if we all got buffs similar to rabbit totem that lasts for like 40mins or until port soe or death. Make everyone's speed like 250 and defense like 7. That would be so awesome hahahahahaha.
hmm, at the next event where u have to fight monsters I wanna have the same damage output like a Spellhowler, if its not like that its unfair to all other classes >_>
I'm not going to bother reading every single post in here so someone has probably already said it but I'll say it again : you can't use stryders for this event so stop complaining and read the actual information people.
Well, now that the event is over, someone told me that they saw others exploiting something in the game called "zooming." The whole idea is have someone a ways away from you and they use an SOE or you try to cast a spell on them. The game then ZOOMS you over close or on top of them causing you to run really fast. Now, here are some things I see wrong with using this "strategy."
1. You have to have a full team of people ALL over the map to make this worthwhile.
2. Wouldn't take a little more time to do all these actions than actually running?
Anyone else see this happen or know if it was effective?
