BOTS. THE HIDDEN SIDE

General Discussion Started Last reply 42 posts
Hi to all readers. Im playing 2 months now L2 C3. I have played so many Hours the game and i'm now about lvl33. Last few days i hear alot about BOTS in the game.

So i'm contradictious of using bots as the as consensus. So i was Hunting in same place 3 days in a row! and i've seen 3 guys party ( 2 warrior + 1 mystik ) fighting " 3 days in a row " !! can you realize that? every morning , noon , night , midnight.

For 3 days i see this guys fighting. And yesterday i realize that were bots. Bots is a good trick ( Illegal ofcourse) for gaining Exp., SP Money , and level up faster. But they have one debit. They can talk you as a normal person. they can think to make extra moves to pick up dripping thinkg. ( go roudly for example) , They Dont hit you if you killing them.

So i thought. so i think to report them. I did it.and the answer was : "WE investigate soon.." . It sounds like my Police department in my country when we ask for help. anyway . they piss me off and i kill them one by one ! There were fantastik drops and ofcourse my KARMA was 3000!!!! the funny is that: if you try to kill the leader of the party of bots he/she(it) invite you to gain extra SP.EXP and so on. so i make party with them.
i was going for coffe ofcourse and when i came back i had 40 % more EXP ! no bad. So i thing IS bots FOR GOOD?? if i make the GOOD to kill them , i gain KARMA that is BAD. if i make party with them .then i gain all goods they earn. SO next time you see a bot CONSIDER THIS :)

Thanks a lot for your patiense.
I see where you are coming from but I wonder if a player who parties with a bot is really botting just botting themselves?

I mean... you are not fighting, not at keyboard... no playing... but you are getting xp, sp, adena etc.

Seems to me that one is either against botting or for botting. I personally don't care what people do in the game.. so I am not one to bring out the Iron Maiden (not the band) but I just don't see how a player can say they are against botting but benefit from bots...

Just a thought...

We now return you to our regularly scheduled program...

"Gilligan!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Well next time u can ask them to pay u for not killing them, this way u are not part of the bot party but still profit from them.

It has been done before.
lol.. a red player grouping with bots. That's like an early christmas present.

In any event, prepare to be trained, KS'd, and generally disliked on your server. /shrug
lol, oh the irony - that's hilarious :D
Can you say EE and party recall? ty for the info
lol

seen that in action. not on bot trains, but on one of those lvl 1 scammers who asks you to "take down weapon". was fun :)
Well thanks for your interest on this post. Some replies arent so good but just discusting here !.
I think that reporting is a waste of time ! and to proove it i call anyone to come with me today to see same bots are still there and fighting maybe is from a shelling adena company who knows! Ofcourse next time i dont kill bots.
i just party with them. and if nessesary i kill one ! ;) . If game masters do nothing to stop this, it is not my job definatelly.
I always look my good for my charakter without disturb anyone ! have fun with bots ! LOL
Joining a bot party for EXP (power leveling) is a risky proposition.

The fact is we do ban bot users and bot trains (bot parties) are the easiest for us to find. If your character is caught in a bot train when we investigate there is a chance that your account could be closed for up to a week or until you prove that you were not affiliated with the bot party.

The fact is if this bot is around level 30 that it is only about a week old at most. Some bannings take longer than a week.

The fact is if this bot is around level 30 that it is only about a week old at most.

I would say 48 hours max.
Still thanks for reply to this topic, warm and fuzzy feeling someone is watching these forums :) (no irony inside)

To OP: If you want to profit from bots, seed ... you seed, they kill, you harvest, they loose drops, you earn fruits with no big effort :D

And you will never see any confirmation from GM like "Yes thank you this is a bot, we just banned them." It may sound rude to you, but that's the NCs policy on fighting bots. Most likely you'll see "we will investigate this" and "every player has it's own playstyle" answers.
Actually if you find those guys respond well and do not completely act like a bot, there might be some live humans playing them and taking turns to cover 24/7. Or at least one-two toons are played by real human. But that does not excuse use of third party program anyway.
So it's okay to be in a bot-party to gain AFK experience as long as you aren't botting?

No... he is saying that if you are in a bot party there is a good chance you are going to be banned. However... since you are technically not botting, if you could prove it (and how could you prove it?) then there is a possibility you would be reinstated.

Still... you are either against bots, for bots, or indifferent.

If you are against bots then I feel it is hypocrisy to be in a bot party. However.. .if you are indifferent then I suppose it wouldn't mattter.

Just depends on how you look at life.

So it's okay to be in a bot-party to gain AFK experience as long as you aren't botting?

yup id say so
nc keeps telling us how they have all these skills to detect bots
since they dont use the ones we use (namely just watching them for 30 seconds)
since they only ban ppl by detecting bot programs technically you can never be banned for botting if you yourself are not botting ^^

grab the xp if you want but i warn you if i see you anywhere near me i will just assume you are paying to be powerlvled and you will be treated just as harshly as the bots themselves

So i thought. so i think to report them. I did it.and the answer was : "WE investigate soon.." .

ROFL.

Imagine how funny it would be if say the only petition that GM's got against that bot group was yours. So then later then ban the bots AND you cause you were part of their party.

That would be some major Pwnage by Yourself AGAINST Yourself, not to mention it would be pretty funny too. :p

Well considering that a bot train is the easiest for you to find and that I see lvl 60+ bot trains everywhere I hunt, I wonder how far a bot can lvl when it uses a "harder way for you to find"...

I love the conditions..:
"If you bot, you may one day have a chance of maybe beeing suspected and questionned of a possible brake of Eula rules and thuss, you may have to endure up to 1 week, yes 1 full week ban!

Why don't you stop the "double language" and directly built a system where my toon could get xp while I am not playing it, so I could at last compete with the "hard to spot" botters? You do realise that being legit doesn't mean giving up to the competition?

If you can't fight the bots, use them.. don't place us legit player in the position where we have no way to play the game in its fullest.

~~~Edit ~~~
Admiral: when he will be banned.. if he wil ever be, not only he would have gaine 50 lvlsand tons of adena/drop but will be banned "for up to a week".. how terribly and dreadfull punishement is this?
An Irl equivalent is the current copyright: the state says it's against the law while most of the ppl do it, included the very layers and deputy who proposed that law and when they spot one, either they drop the charge because you can't sue your entire nation of you make few example of a few of them.
For example, according a survey from Sandvine, a company specialysed in equipements for Internet Traffic Control, the Peer to Peer represente 60% of the bandwith in Europe. Nearly 90% of the French bandwith use, comes from P2P network use: 85% in download, 90% in upload.
Now let's be reasonable: will the my governement sue the entire nation for breaking the copyright law ? Of course not and that's mainly why most of the actors in the market tend to find a solution that will integrate the Peer to Peer reality.
Im Definatelly against bots. thats why i report them every day. The funny is that i see them everyday in the same place. How many times i have to report just to check it not for taking any action. (TEON server - FORGOTTEN TEMPLE. FIRST ROOM on your LEFT ! ) They must be a month there and fighting.
2nd. If someones partys with bots. how you can ban him/her. He/she may allegate that he/she wouldnt now for fighting with bots.. :))
I think its a good start to make stronger software for detecting this kind of "third party programs"
..and something else. It is tooooo Hard to make a software or patch or anything else that can recgonize if someones sitting down in his PC?
What are basics actions when you playing L2? Or pressed some buttons on keyboard or moving mouse. its too hard to recgonize this ?
...just a thought :D
Query for HGM Spam:
I see your post seems to equate being in a bot party (where u aren't using a 3rd party programme yourself) to power leveling - I'm confused...
I thought this term (power leveling, that is) referred to where a friend (a higher level healer/buffer, usually, can be other classes though) remained outside your party but neverthe less helped u kill, while u got all the xp, adena, drops etc, so that u level faster. This technique is often used within clans, to help the low lvls catch up quicker.
Sometimes it isn't a friend doing the power levelling, sometimes people pay someone they don't know to do this, usually per 20 mins session.
Are you telling us that this type of power leveling is illegal?
Thanks for any clarification you can give :)
Yes it is exactly that you saying. I'm not use a third-party Program that makes me level up . Its still illegal to join in a party with bots ( Probably? ;) ) ?
Just because someone plays alot does not mean they are a bot. When Im on my buffer, I like running around high botted area's asking people what class they are. If they respond I buff them. Although it won't slow the tide of botters, it does help the people who are not botting which is a win in my book.
Having a friend help you lvl while helping you kill very high lvl mobs is not illegal. (*edited that because of errors)
Being in a party with people who are botting even though you are not botting can get you "accidentally" banned.
Being in a bot party and getting xp even though you are not botting yourself is a bit in the gray area. Quite frankly in my opinion it is semantics.
You are not using the 3rd party programs but you feel it's ok to take advantage of those 3rd party programs indirectly.
I say eitehr be one or the other. Either say you are ok with botting or that you are not ok with botting.
I have much much more respect for someone who says "yes... I buy gold and items and I bot and I am proud" over someone who decries botting yet they allow bots to lvl them.
I mean come on!!!
I really need to read my posts before I hit "post"... grammatical errors abound.
Just sign in and pm Ore or Diegomontoya DM. I have not been on because of rehearsals and I'm not an officer so couldn't invite anyways. ;)
Back on topic... either one is for bots, against bots, or you don't care either way.
People should just pick their poison and move on.
Being a complete noob to Lineage 2, how can I tell the difference between a bot/farmer and a real player?
Try having an indepth conversation...
if no reply try kill steal, drop steal, or flag, see if theres a reaction.
If nothing you probebly have found a bot or farmer...
See if the same person/people are in the same spot for days or weeks.
Well, something must be wrong with your system when a banned player can bot up a new character to a-grade and own Aden castle.
if i cant be bothered, then i will just ask if they know wht colour is my clan crest
it always works fine
and they usually dont know how to answer of coz :P
another test would be try to say "bot"
they will probably answer no
if they did answered "no"
then try to say "b0t" again
they probably wont say anything ;)
If you are in a party that someone is running a bot in then expect the party to get the ban; not just the bot - why not? Everyone in the party would have to know that one 'player' is a bot. Don't wanna risk it? Argue your point in a different way, you need to show that you are not associated with a 3rd party program; otherwise . . .
That sounds like a really tough case to argue. A lot of bot parties have at least one human player to defend the bots from attack. Where is the line of "association" drawn?
IMHO you are technically using the bots if you are getting xp from them. Even though the 3rd party software isn't running on your computer, you are knowingly reaping the benefits of it. It's an exploit, plain and simple, because it gives you an unfair advantage over legit players.
Will Bots leave items laying around after they go through an area, I ask because I was playing last night a picked up 3100 adena, thread, coal, arrows, tunic, right out side of the starter village. This was on the Erica server.
hehehe - bots....
the other day myself, my gf and a couple of other NM allies were running thru patriots and found one of those "selective" bot trains - IE - they pick up certain items. We musta picked up around 8000 b grade arrows and 500 greater antidotes. A little further in we found another bot train. Seeing as to how the darn place was full we decided to take the room. Flagging didnt work so we did the next best thing. Mob trains. Our archer friend grabbed mobs from another room while I collected in the current room and did fd. Killed em all and we exp'd in that room for 6 hours :). Great not having to pk bots and its hilarious to watch em fall. Forgot to mention - they had the bot programs set to use the healers to wake up sleeping members. we musta killed their healers 3 times each at least :) Killing bots can be more fun than killing mobs, especially after getting ganked in another cat just a few minutes before this (thanks alot M - you ********s). BTW - gratz to M for killing Antharas. Wish our alliances coulda worked together on this I woulda loved to have been there.
Well, from what i've heard, bots are allowed on the asian market, where this game comes from, so I'm not surprised they're still in this game like rats in a barrel of crackers more than a year after NA launch. I say, do what you have to to either get along with them, or get around them, without risking banment. If you can group with them, go ahead, just dont go afk, or you might get banned when you neglect to respond to the GM's message. If you can seedspoil off em, do that too (Although i dont think seeds cancel drops any more. Mobs i seed still drop money). Train em and pick up their drops, PK them and work off the karma, whatever ya gotta do. Its a game, there's no wrong way.
And in the words of the big man himself, "My children, It is permissable, In times of great peril, To walk with the Devil, Until you are over the bridge."
Frankly, I'd say working WITH the bots would be a lot better than working against them, cuz its pretty much like working against the Dawn in the seals competition, Yer not gonna win. When a bot gets banned, it takes a maximum of two weeks for that same botter to have another one in the same place at the same level with a slightly different name. They dont even have to rewrite their 3rd party programs, just do exactly what they did last time. Even if every single bot in the game was to be perma-banned, every single one of them would be back again inside of a month, exactly where they were.
It sounds distasteful and cheap, but hey, technically speaking its how the game was meant to be played, if the asian application of Lineage 2 is anything to judge by, so why not just play it like they do and be done with it. If you want good clean wholesome western-cultural-style fun, play EQ2 or WoW, NA based games that conform to our western ideals of sportsmanship and chivalry and not the eastern notion of Might Makes Right, death before dishonor, and all that stuff.
It really is just an east-west issue, as horribly racist and non-politically-correct as that sounds (I never did understand all this namby-pamby flower-power we're all the same ploppy anyway. We're not. We have different cultures, different skin colors, different localized anatomical adaptations for dealing with different environmental and sociological conditions. Come on, use yer brains. All further evidence i could put forward about this, i will not put down in case NCSoft made the mistake of giving power to one of those people with a nun-like sense of moral strictness, like the child smothering butchers who would DARE to have Clint Eastwood say "Gall Darned." Moral correctness ticks me off). We arent all the same, what works there may not work here, and all the long haired bong worshipping peacenik complaining in the world wont fix that, so if we must insist on playing an asian based game, we should learn to play it their way, cuz thats the way it was designed to be played.
"until you prove"....geezus That statement alone shows how difficult knowing who is and who isnt a bot. A friend of mine is so good and fast at his keyboard that we have been declared bots. I am very good at assisting him because I know the trick with my mouse. Everyone in the party can appear to be botting under certain circumstances.
So I find it disconcerting to hear HGM making that comment about PROVING if your NOT a bot. I thought it should be the other way around in this game? I can just see it now. GM shows up...."you a bot?"...nope..."prove it"...what?..."prove your not a bot"....how?...arent I talking to ya?..."not good enuff"...."YOUR BANNED FOR ONE WEEK while we look into this matter"
Yeah, and it's great fun in enchanted valley or the pit at ivory tower...free spellbooks, often rare ones :P
If you ever need lots of bone arrows, head over to alligator island...bots there don't like the arrows much, got over 15k of em one night, just running around picking them up from where the bot train must have been running all day.
Where does it state in the rules that you cannot run with a bot, even if you know its one?
Not saying its ok, but it really doesn't say that anywhere.
...its in the addendum...you know the rules they make up as they go... :cool:
Well next time u can ask them to pay u for not killing them, this way u are not part of the bot party but still profit from them.
It has been done before.
Hmmm... interesting thought. However, is there ANY policy against bribery or blackmail? Is it allowed in game? Can you tell a "player" (lol) to PAY you in Adena (of course) or you will kill them? Is this allowed and not against the EULA? (I ask because in SWG... Bounty Hunters could not blackmail the Jedi... it was against the rules).
If this is allowed... I would say make them pay you not to kill them... and then report them for botting.
This would be policy and pratice 100% against bots.
in DV we repeatedly trained and pked some bots
one of our guys said they had to pay 600k and some mats he needed for crafting and we would leave
he got payed but he could speak chinese dont think it would work as well for us
you pay me 500k to leave
??
pay i leave or rang rang
??
You need to make your investigations fast enough so that you can ban the bots more quickly than they can replace their high level characters. It only takes a few weeks for bot parties to get to high levels, so I think you really need to get your investigation period down to about 1-2 weeks.
we should learn to play it their way, cuz thats the way it was designed to be played.
That is exactly the point. When you got your copy of the game, did it come with a bot program you can use? Did the creators of linage put out a bot program that you can download or purchase to run with the game? Of course not. That's because the game was not designed to have bots in it. Somebody else created the program to play the game in a way it wasn't meant to be played.
Just because lots of people do something and the government can't regulate it does not mean that everybody likes it or nobody wants it changed. The term "out of game pk" came from Korea as well. ^_~ Thank god we don't solve our problems that way.
Frankly, I'd say working WITH the bots would be a lot better than working against them, cuz its pretty much like working against the Dawn in the seals competition, Yer not gonna win.
