Currently in each of the forums is a server personality poll. They were posted quite a while ago by Ash, and I've gotten a request to repost them so that fresh data can be generated. I think they could be a useful resource for all of the new players that post wondering which server to go to - do y'all agree? What changes should be made to the format? Any new categories, or categories that should be removed? Do you think that the existing polls should be left alone? In any case, I intend to post a sticky in the Player Questions forum with a list of links to the polls, to try to stem the tide of server questions.

Any posts implying that a Question of the Week constitutes a promise of any sort will cause the poster to be publicly mocked.

Sarge
Personally I don't think they work because anyone from other server can come and vote which means the voting itself is totally flawed since there is more than one server.

Not everyone thinks the way you do. The majority would just vote in their own forum; not "grief" the voting of other forums.
Those polls do actually still mirror what people do believe their server is like. Of course the "many alliances/one big alliance" balance changes every other month or so... should probably be left out or replaced.
Also there should be a place to compare the results of the polls more easily... maybe add it to the next newsletter? :)

Actually, I used the polls to pick a server...then decided that the polls really weren't that helpful. The problem is that most people play one or two servers much more than others, and that gives them little perspective on how the server compares to others...which is what the newbies really care about.
Just for example, "helpful players"--if 3% of Kain's population were helpful, and 5% of Bartz' were helpful, then someone who only played one or the other might think that was really low, and not vote for "helpful players". Someone who played both might think Kain was low and Bartz was high, and vote for Bartz' "helpful players".
...but what if every other server was 1%? Actually, they're both high in that case, but nobody who plays only one or both would know that.
That's my concern with the surveys, that I don't think there are many people who have played enough servers to high enough level to really know the differences. They're useful for another purpose, determining the attitude of each server so that you know what sort of topics are likely to be discussed, but really that's sketchy as well.
I still like the idea of new surveys, despite all that...I'm just not sure how we can impliment them to make the new results more closely describe the true personality of each server. Hopefully someone else is better with surveys than I am :D
If I remember rightly we were only allowed to pick 3 of the several options.
What would be fairer is if we could give each a mark from 1 - 10..but I figure forum polls cant be set up like that so nothing useful to add; maybe in the morning :(

Yeah well some of as are twisted. :p
lol... well, I suppose so! It never even dawned on me that people would do that...
Strange and twisted world :)
I think they can be a help... however.. maybe they should be reset every 4 months or so so that changes in the server can be registered more often.
Yes, reset the polls every 3 months or so as power balances shift and the nature of the server shifts as well. Keeping the results of the old poll could be interesting as well, always nice to have a little history.
Perhaps an avarage server availability statistic would be useful as well. We want new players to distribute better over the existing servers. We dont want Bartz and Teon to get more full after all.

As a server-hopper I have to say that the polls never helped me in a decision, and that they weren't accurate. Whether that is because they were out of date or because of the chosen format, I do not know.
I think a different format altogether, maybe in the form of a monthly write-up (given in turn to players on that server or something like that) to go with the Newsletters might be nicer.
However, they definitely can't get worse by being reopsted - so I'd say "sure, but don't think it'll help much".
hmm
i'm playing gustin for 5 days i started playing L2 tho
and i have to say server is full of helpfull players
Bots r as everywhere else u have to fight/tolerate/train them ure choice
These should be reset monthly. Just last month on Gustin we've gone from 2 powerhouse alliances to at least 5 alliances working independantly. We've generated a server wide bot destruction coalition, that has proven success.
I'd like to see the voting on the monthly newsletter, that's a great idea. The questions should be more based on individual experiences rather than people trying to judge the attitude of their server though. For example:
Have you received help from another player in the past month?
Have you been pk'd unjustly for being in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Do you face server politics for showing up at a siege?
Have you been forced engage in pvp for your favorite hunting spot?
Have you been invited to an xp/raid group with players outside your clan/alliance?
What clan/alliance has caused you the most grief in the past month?
What clan/alliance has been the most helpful to you in the past month?
These types of questions allow for an individual to provide input on the overall attitude on the server. Also I believe most players don't even use the official forums for any reason. There should be notification upon logon that there is some sort of reward for participation in the vote on the official forums.
