Ok, I've been playing for a while. I'm starting to learn to make money but I want to know if there is anything I'm missing because it is still fairly painful. Right now I'm hunting (most obvious), I buy and sell items in the markets (took me a while to get prices down), and I'm seeding crops (took me a really long time to figure out). Are there other things I could be doing to make more money? I don't want anyone to give a way their secret cash cowes or anything, but can someone give me some more hints here. Is there anything else I'm missing?
Some quests are fairly profitable, although they appear to be either very low level (newbie quests are more than worth it to a newbie) or higher in level (coins, inf-ore, etc). If you're particularly ambitious, high-level crafting is nice, as is overenchanting, but they both require significant resources to attempt (in time or adena).
I'm a DE Palus Knight so I don't think crafting will help much. I do the Black Lion quest because it makes a little money. I'm also level 36 right now, so I don't know about high level quests.
If you use the manor system in a wise way and sell the rewards you get for the crops, money should come in fairly easy. Try to use a seed that rewards you with mats like coal or A.skin and sell them at lower prices than most of the other player shops. I can make almost 100k an hour (on a good day of solid grinding) off of this method alone.
I use my quest rewards just to cover my SS expenses.
Well, one minor tip that applies to the manor system at any level range: you may find difficulty in returning popular seeds, so try an unpopular one. The profit margin is lower in theory, but since you can actually turn the seeds in, you end up taking home more money.
Just check the math to make sure that it's unpopular because it's not an in-demand material, not because it's configured wrong ;)
The one-time quest, Acts of Evil, given by Guard Alvah at N gate of Gludin gives 98,000a. It does involve a lot of running around, and killing some mobs that are dark blue to you now.
For repeatable quests, if you are hunting N or NE of Giran, get the Arrow of Vengeance quest from Guard Belton at the easternmost N gate of Giran. You kill wryms, Harpy or Medusas. Keep the quest as long as you are killing them anyway to xp. Watch out for trains: bots love this area and bot-killers use trains to 'cleanse' the area periodically. (I call it Drama-Valley as not all those trained are actually bots.)
If you don't mind running around a lot, do the Wishing Potion quest from Matilda (due east of Ivory Tower, across the river, near a hut with smoke rising.) The wishing potions still sell for a lot in private stores, 400,000 to 500,000a on Kain. (Much better than the usual reward for using them yourself.) If you do this one, you have to kill the Secret-Keeper Tree in SW part of Cruma Swamp. It is dark red to you, but slow as the devil, with no ranged attack. Use any bow on it, as it may kill you if you try to melee its leafy rump.
In a few levels (level 40,) start the Coin of Magic quest with Sorient in Hunter's Village. You WILL need help to kill the initial Harit you need for the first coin (it was the Matriarch when I did it, but the last person I helped got it from the Shaman,) but after that, the timaks (and others) will drop coins that have a high resale value (about 3k for the Gold and Silver, 15k for the Blood Medusas.)
So is that pretty much it then? All that helps, but not much. Surely there must be other ways. People are getting tons of money from other places. I see all kinds of people walking around with big swords and armor.
All posibilities, but that money must come from somewhere. I'm level 40 now, and I don't really feel like I've made all that much money. How are they doing it?
is there anyway to make alotta cash around 15? Can someone explain to me this manor system..or perhaps point me to a post that is already made somewhere?I just dont understand it in depth.
Buying ebay adena I am sure... scamming too.
I am only lv 22 myself, I have gotten donations from players who have ouleveled the stuff they have given me and they have been kind enough to give it to me. Thus, I am not equipped with the best of anything, but I have decent stuff. Otherwise I would have given up the game with frustration at the inability to enjoy the game in crappy as crap equipment. The prices for any equipment are soo high, they are ridiculous. Maybe this is the reality no one wants to tell you.
El, I feel that one of the best ways to make money if you dont have a lot to begin with is using the manor system. Once, I made about 12M from 1M worth of seeds in about 2 weeks, and I only play about 1 hour a day and may be 4 to 6 hours on weekends doing seeds.
Wow...I remember this thread, almost two months ago *laugh* Maybe my poor old memory isn't failing yet after all...

You're making way more money going from 40-41 than you did 20-21, right? Well, it scales upward like that...imagine how much more someone is making going 60-61? Now imagine they're using everything they've earned from 1-61 to buy no-grade and D-grade gear on their rerolls...if you're thinking you can't compete with that, you're right. They have a lot of time and energy invested building the kind of advantage that you're only just starting to create.

Its what common sense dictates to me anyways.
I'm sorry, but that's a load of BS. You have no idea how much more money the higher-level people are making than your no-grade self, so I really don't think you should start saying that people who are richer than you are ebayers and scammers.
That's not the reality and that's not "common sense"--it's utter ignorance of how the game works after the second class change.
People have been giving you handouts, and this is the thanks you give them, calling them cheaters? That's not right.

Bekkar is correct.
For instance... I get 1000 to 2100 Adena drops in BS (that is about right... I've gotten in the 2000+ and slighly lower - 900 - but it is in that range).
On Saturdays where I have nothign to do during the day I can go there and lvl all day. I started noticing that I could be down to 200k in my inventory and then at the end of the day have 800-900k easily.

Sorry but I don't think it is BS at all. Have you seen the farmer population in this game? They aren't here for their health. Someone is buying all of that adena they are farming. I'm not saying *everyone* ebays. But I am saying a LOT of people do.

That I find more palatable. His original statement did imply that "all that money" was coming from "Buying ebay adena I am sure... scamming too." If that was an unintentional exaggeration, that's one thing, but the original statement was flat-out untrue.

It wasn't me that made those statements. I was just adding my 2a on the matter :p
It's both. It's high level players using their resources to do rerolls, and it's that bunch who swarms around the light elf in noob gear at the derby track.
Myself, I bit the bullet, after stalling in partial D grade, and leveled a set of dwarfs. It required me to view the game differently. Spending time leveling dwarfs, has been no more of a burden than waning away in cheap gear, neglected by the most parties. ( If the game was new it would be different. You could find teams of people who would all be struggling along together. That isn't the case at this point in the game.)
Transfer what you have to a dwarf. Level it to 20 and make a Scavenger. Find and spoil basic material recipes along the way, they sell for 20-30K or more. Transfer stuff over to another dwarf and level it into an Artisan. Switch back and forth as boredom dictates. When you get them both to 36 you can start crafting all those special top D gloves, boots and helmets that people are somehow paying too much adena for. A pair like this will allow you to equip the toon of your choice to level 52. At some point you'll want to take the dwarfs to 58, but don't think about that now.
There are several repeatable quests at your level. None of them will make you a million adena in record time. (Aside from the Wish Potion Quest if you get EXTREMELY lucky.)
At level 32 you could have done the Black Swan quest. Valuable mats are the reward in addition to adena.
You are currently within reach of the magic coin quest. A MUST do!!! Farm all of the blood medusas that you can and sell them at just below current market rates. If the mobs that drop the coins appear blue to you, delevel. Yes, I said delevel. Do you want to make money or xp? One level or two won't hurt you. It gives you that much more time to earn even more coins. You can of course use the coins to get some nice items as well that you can either crystallize or sell in the market.
More money makers? Instead of selling your low end D grade drops, have a dwarf crystallize them for you and sell the crystals. D crystal prices on my server are the highest I've seen ever.
More money makers? Learn to craft soulshots and spiritshots and set up a private store near isolated, but well-frequented hunting grounds on your downtime. Do not leave your toon unattended, though. The days of a big siege are also good days for selling shots. You will sell it faster than you can make it.
More money makers? Research C4 and surf the boards. Find out what the next "big thing" will be and start farming/hoarding the basic mats. Sell them when prices peak.
More money makers? At your level you should live in the Necros and Catas. Drops are great, plenty of mobs and the seal stones, blank scrolls and AA are money in the bank. Dyes and weapons scrolls are usually the ancillary products sold.
More money makers? Of course, overenchanting. But listen to me closely. Don't go for +16, or even +8. In my experience the weapons that sell quickly are enchanted between +4 and +7. Remember this is HIGHLY risky, but the pay off is worth it.
I'll say trading is the best and fastest way to get adena.
I have played for a little more then two month and I have top C-grade for my 2 toons(lvl4x) and top D-grade for my other two toons.
I have borrowed top(NPC) D-grade for several friends of mine and a lot more.
I have approx. 30-35kk adena in cash and a lot of stuff I'm just waiting to sell.....
So all-in-all I'v made like .... 90-100kk in two months.
All the adena comes from trading, I havent used manor system at all.
I even tested this, I made a new toon, gave it 1kk and bought common mats. After 1-2 days I had bought mats for 1kk.
I then re-sold it for a higher price and 2 days later I had 1,7-1,8kk. So I made 800k in profit on 4 days by trading only.
Then I repeated, bought for 1,8kk and re-sold for approx. 3kk in 4 days. So in a week or so I made 2kk in profit.
One of the best days with trading have brought be more then 3-4kk in profit on one day alone !!!! :) ...... but then there are also several days where trading compleatly stops :(.
So I got all the adena I need for the present lvl my 4 toons are in :).
Thank you so much sinpalabras (nice name by the way)! Your post is very helpful. I am currently living in the catacombs, but I had never thought of crystalizing. I've never heard of the coin quest. Where do I find it?
People have been giving you handouts, and this is the thanks you give them, calling them cheaters? That's not right.
You are right I am ignortant... being new why would I even deny it? lol There is no point!
But it seems to me everything is too expensive for me... and there seems to me no way I can make cash at my level to afford any of the things I have been "handed down." Thus that is my common sense... but you seem to have taken personal offense ... and there was none intended in my post.
Someday, for fun, look at the level ranges covered by the raid charms. That's a more accurate reflection of the intended level range for each grade. IIRC, top NG arrives around 25, which I consider more than viable.
Yep, a good way to make adena, is to make 2 dwarves. A Scav and an Artisan. Now while they do make a bit more then a regular character, the best thing they do is really train you in the economy, and how to work it to your advantage.
With my other 2 characters, the name of the game is lvling as quickly as possible. In the end you are left with very little adena to upgrade your equipment, becuase first of all, thre is a curve, you can hunt certian types of mobs for adena, and others for more xp. There is a trade off, and usually the person out trying to lvl isn't going to bother with the adena types. Second, a person worried about lvling isn't going to sit around searching for sales in towns, they want to be out slashing and killing. The dwarves, on the other hand, are not really that exciting out on the field (well at my lvls anyways, maybe when I can make a seige golem or something), and the name of the game for them is adena. Making an artisan, pretty much limits alot of your time to towns, and buying from afk shops, so you get to know the prices, and can spot deals, and know what stuff you can flip for a quick and easy profit.
Thanks to everyone's advise, I've started a dwarf artisan and my friend is starting a scavenger--so hopefully we will be able to assist each other. If you have any tips for dwarfs, I'm all ears.
For 1-20 lvling, wooden set and Dagger. Yes, dagger in the hands of a low lvl dwarf is really nice. Fast hitting, decent dmg and doesnt miss too much. 8 hours of soloing to lvl 20 >.>
After that, get brigandines and a D-grade polearm, preferrably Glaive(Top D) and poletrain some(altho this will not work so well in C4 T_T)
Thats for fast lvling, but if you want to make money, you wanna avoid fast lvling.
Buy manor seeds and do the following. Spoil _and_ Seed the mobs you're killing. Remember to use harvester before sweeper because sweeper destroys the body >.> This way you can get spoiled materials, seeded materials and all the gold drops. If you find good seeding/spoiling mobs, stick to them. If you outlvl, delvl.
I made 300 leather just going from 10+ to like 18 on an elf alt, seeding the mobs ^^ And I did the lvling the fast way, without delvling back to seed range.

This person is absolutely right, but I have a bit of an add-on. A scavvie can both seed -and- spoil mobs. This will help get you tons of basic mats over a short period of time. But in the interest of slow leveling, heres something I have found to be extremely helpful. Get a wolf. Yeah, I know they are kind of useless, but get one at lvl 15. After you seed and spoil a mob, and after your toon has had first hit, make the wolf attack with you. This way, the wolf sucks up some of the XP. You kill mobs faster, level up slightly slower, and make alot more adena and mats per level. Wolves dont cost too much to feed or equip, and the point is just to kill more mobs per level.
OMG DO NOT GET A DAGGER AND WOODEN SET pre-20. These are the two worst things for a dwarf :D-- With a dagger you waste more SS from having to hit the mob more, and you don't crit with it enough to make up for the misses. Get a zweihander or blunt. And get heavy armor-- there is not point to getting a wooden set unless you can't afford top non-grade heavy. Since there are no specific armor masteries pre-20, there is no use getting light armor.
That set was from my elf alt that is now a nice trainer of you know what ;)
SS spamming as a noob, why? If you want to make money, spamming SS is the last thing you're gonna do. Also, at those low lvls, missing with a dagger was really something that did not happen as often as some people expect. And it did crit alot. 1 or more crit on most of the mobs so it really was an efficient weapon. Wooden set is also cheaper, and has a HP bonus. Cheaper = you save adena, and this is all about making adena, right? ;)
I've actually used top ng sword(falchion), top ng dagger(sword breaker) and the top ng twohanded sword all at the same lvl, vs same mobs and personally the dagger was the best weapon to be had.
Thank you all! I've started a dwarf and DRUDGED her all the way to level 20! Woohoo! Let the money start rolling in! I'm putting some of your advice to good use. I hope to start crafting SSD soon! I can't wait! I'm also glad to have a few combat abilities and not just spoil and sweep.
so are you going artisan or warsmith? If you go Warsmith they your spoiling days are going to quickly go downhill, not that you won't still get some but not nearly as much. I have found that warsmiths are a bit slower to get going without the spoiling they are less fun to level and unsually don't get the big revenues that spoilers get until you start being able to craft B grade. Yes you can craft SS but its slow going not bad if you have lots of time to sit in town when you can't level. But normally you are making 1-2 adena per SS you sell so figure it out you have to craft hundreds of thousands and sell it to be ableto afford higher gear from crafting alone. Mat crafting isn't a bad bussiness either the 10a shops are chump change but once again if you can set it up all day every day while you go to work its not a bad thing to do. now when you get higher level the WS really pays off seige golems make you a must for allainces and clans and your own golem can now use SS nice huh. The nerfed big boom sadly and messed it up so it agros mobs now so its basically a waste unless you can get a few guys together to mass big boom mob groups, just remember to stay under 20 mobs thought or the aoe nerf hurts you. My warsmith is mid 60's and is my sole source of income now. I set up private shop and craft all day B and Agrade gear don't waste time making SS or arrows why make 100-200 adena on those crafts when you can make 100k crafting full gear. On average I make about 500k a day crafting not bad when you consider thats all days including the ones when nothing is made, often I will make a couple million in 24 hrs all depends whats being demanded and who else is crafting. Key is to look for a nitch as certain item no one else is crafting and make that. I got into crafting the Kris when few others had the recipe made 1 million every time it was crafted. Now with A grade its demand has slipped and more competitiors out there but I still make 500k every time its crafted and with having 20 slots in the private craft book you can put up quite the listing.
I assumed this whole time that no soulshots were used, as that is the worst thing you can do. Just fight against green mobs until they go light blue, then move on, it might be slower, but all the money and drops you get are yours and will stay part of you until you're ready to upgrade your equipment.
