There are MANY wolf fans on this forum, and they're a vocal bunch (waves at Kiranya). :) I don't know if anyone is raising a strider BEYOND 55, but I've taken it on for mine. I've seen "bad parents" let their babies delevel or get to 55 only to sell them off in Giran at the first available moment. :( The market is full of abandoned Twilights selling for 30 mill. For shame!
Striders ARE difficult to raise, especially the Star. But I have a Star and love the big scaly beastie. I've finally found time to continue leveling mine, and my clannie has decided to level a Wind hatchling with his Necromancer sub.
We don't give two hoots if a wolf of the same level has better attack power and whatnot. Wolves rock, but so can Striders -- at least that's my belief. :) My baby, LordVaako, will be my hunting partner (or buddy, if you will) as he was before, but this time with my subclass (Spellhowler). It can get a little lonely soloing so when I'm regening, he'll be stomping the lifeforce out of mobs. His Hate skill works quite well, and has already come to the rescue (gosh darn CDL).
So, any other strider fans out there? Please, this is not meant to be a thread for strider haters or "my wolf is greater than your strider" proponents. I'd simply like to see how others are doing with their hatchlings and striders.

Well, here's a young Elro (notice the peach fuzz). Not a strider but the very first time I'd ever completed a pet quest. I don't cotton to buying them.
Pooh. No dragon owners have posted other than SirE. :( There's no way I'm the only strider loving Dark Elf on this forum. :)
Anyway (waves at Kiranya) this morning LordVaako hit his first milestone: Level 56! I know there have been other striders at that level and I believe LordLiberty on L2Pets had one (sold it??) at 62 at one point. But it's MY big scaly so I'm THRILLED!
Now that the initial hurdle is done, I'll post his update when I get him to the next milestone - 60. :) I'm enjoying this new challenge. The only trouble I can forsee is finding mobs at his level with his gear. Strider weapons/armor are pitiful so I'll need to test taking him out with my SH against pinks. The gear will likely cost him a lot of HP despite the fact he has so much.
Oh, and as you see in the middle picture, LordVaako was fully buffed. I forgot to take unbuffed shots before hand. No biggie, I guess.
I had that with a bitmap file. Just resave as a Jpeg and reduce it's overall size a bit. Do you have an image editing propgram? Many have auto settings you can use. :)

Overall, it costs more to raise a hatchling/strider than a wolf, I believe. Kiranya is the "wolfspert" here. :) A hatch/strider of Star costs the most because it eats you out of house and home. LOL! A Wind is mid-range, but from what everyone says the cheapest and fastest to level are Twilights (Dusk Striders).
Stars, in C3, are tanks. Very high HP.
Winds, in C3, are damage dealers. High Patk.
Twilights, in C3, are neither. Poor babies. But they have the fastest run speed, I believe. Never had one so I can't be 100%.
I said "in C3" because in C4 the attributes will be changing for some reason. Stars will be classified as "mage". Winds will be "tanks." Twilights will be speed (which actually isn't a change at all). No one is certain what this means or how it will play out (ie. what skills each get, etc).
The good thing thouh - is that ye'd find people willing to pay through their noses for a stryder. :D So once ye raised it to 55, yer farming days are pretty much over. :D
th new wolfy that i found and (the attack, stay, pickup, etc...etc...) deleveled (got pked and archer picked on the poor thing)... already eat me out of house and home... (don't have any in game, good thing... ^.^)
hatchling... hmm.. first person met me (very nice to me ^.^) let me used a... uh... *pacing trying to think* um... eh.. >_<;; uh... wind hatchling... (not sure, since it can kill a mob faster than the dwarf's stubby legs can run) it's in a flute... pretty cool... but the whole mechanism to feed, fight.. stay... is confusing to me... but it's cool... (though the food costs are so not cool...) i don't think i'll make enough money just to pay for its food alone... forget the its armors/weapons and my armors/weapons issue... ^.^
but if i keep working on my warrior (to change to glad) by the time i change class again... i might have enough money to get a hatchling... XD
Hey, if you're on Gustin I can give you a Wind or Star. We have a couple extra ones in clan wh. :) Eventually, we may level them all but that depends on how well we do with the two we are focusing on at the moment. :)

hmm... lol... if i'm on gustin.. i'll be lv 1 TT_TT not fun...and lv1 don't have money to get em food... (so not good there) lol... i'm in erica and just reaches lv20 and changes into warrior... (nothing really change about it anyway) and now going to try and get enough money to get 2 sabers to make dual swords... >_< so costly...
but hatchling looks like um... chicken/snake(scaly)/ birdy smashed together... ^.^` looks kinda um... cool and a little funny... but i wish you luck on lvling your little hatchies... ^.^ ja...

i might... got a little bored on erica since everybody is pking on everybody (naturally lower lv than they are of course) and seemingly no one want to group together to hunt... *shakes head* tsk.. tsk... what a sad event... lol...
I tried to get my Wind hatchling lvled up. Little did I know that gladiators are not good in leveling 1 up. Got him to like 20% before I lost more xp on him then he gained and he died to a mob to be vanished after :(

I just post the following information on Kiranya's site. But I think it might be helpful to any other strider owners trying to XP their beastie. :)
After hitting 56, LordVaako wanted a challenge so I moved to Enchanted Valley to see how he would do against the mobs there. For the record, in Forsaken Plains and Cemetary, he was getting the following XP against these mobs:
Cemetary Mobs
Punishment of Undead - .20 per kill
Grave Guard - .22
Tarik Orc Leader - .37
Overall those mobs weren’t bad, but I figured it was time to test him a bit more. So, after moving to EV LordVaako did quite well against the +3 HP mobs:
Enchanted Valley Mobs
Liele Elder - .37 per kill
Valley Treant Elder - .56
Satyr Elder - .58
Unicorn Elder - .60
I'll keep adding XP amounts as I learn them to this thread. Maybe the info will be useful to you.
Now you say you're a Gladiator with a Wind hatch? Did you try keeping the mobs aggroed to you? The Wind is weaker on the HP front (good Patk though) so between that and a Star you'll need to be more careful keeping that aggro so he can just nip at peace. :) I really recommend using Kiranya's "Wolf Guide" with your Wind as a wolf starting out encounters many of the problems you'll face having a Wind.
I two-box so Vaako is rather lucky. He's had a Prophet and an SE keeping a watchful eye. If you don't have a friend who is a Proph, SE or Bishop to help in the early going, do what everyone suggests:
-- Stock up on Greater Heal potions (and if you have a few Quick Heal pots from the last event keep a couple on him for emergencies).
-- Get the best hatch armor and weapon you can afford. You may even ask around; someone may have a set they no longer want or use and you can get it cheap (or for free if they REALLY don't care). :)
-- Blessed Pet Rez scrolls are a must.
-- Keep that aggro! Even if you have to pop that mob upside it's head with a Chrono Unitus, do anything it takes to keep him focused on ripping you to shreds, not your baby. :)

Yeah well, Skyday gave me grief for that name, too. I posted a very long-winded explanation on our forums about where the name came from. I just figured it would be original (it was my very first pet, you know). I've only named one other hatchling but, for the life of me, I can't remember what I called it... :confused: Sometimes I think my brain is defective so I poke it with a pencil.
ONly way I could keep hate was equipting a noob blunt and hitting the mob with it. The xp gain for the wind was ok but it was damm slow unbuffed :). Also found out that attacking a mage mob is a big nono. Even if you ahve hate they will attack everything hitting them. Needless to say winds arent that good against magic :(.

Heheh, I know what you mean. But I've been told magic mobs can be silienced and then won't fight at all. I have yet to try that with Vaako (my SH has silence) so when I do I'll let you know.
Ya gotta buff your critter if you want to cut down its kill time, sunshine! :) Try the haste and swift attack pots. You may also want to search thru the L2Pets forums for tips on raising a Wind. Everything will suggest needing a Bishop, Necro, etc. for paralyze, etc. But if you use a dagger to bleed a mob then the hatch can finish it off. Stay away from magic mobs if you can't get them silenced. :)

Oh, to answer your question: I was told that every four levels the strider speed increases. I don't know if that's true as I still have 2 more levels to go. :)
And because I've had folks asking, here are Vaako's stats with and without buffs at 56. Apologies for not posting sooner:
I just got finished with a couple of hours in EV with my clannie, Rehven, on his Necro sub. He is leveling the yet-unnamed Wind Hatchling and will be able to give info to folks who want it.
Again, Vaako tanked and the hatch nibbled. :) But that little stinker was getting over 1% per mob. Rehven has the stats. Hopefully he'll post some soon.
As L2Girl said we were hunting in EV again, same mobs as before. Windy (my affectionate name for him although it'll change when he turns Strider) is equipped with top hatchling gear. He was held back until Vaako established aggro then he went all Wild Temper on the mobs.
I was Anchoring the mobs when their HP went down around 5% and they still woke up for about 10 seconds but that wasn't a problem; Vaako had got their attention before Anchor hit, so they stayed on him. This means we were taking about 2:30minutes to kill each mob. Mobs were all hit with Berserker Spirit to reduce PDef, and if Anchor failed then the mobs were hit with Windshackle (Anchor only failed twice though).
There was one strange set of events though. I failed to Anchor a Valley Treant Elder and he turned to attack Windy. But Windy was being run by my other character (I 2-box), and nobody was partied. Either the Valley Treant Elder mistargeted (lol) or Windy was outdamaging Vaako. Unlikely but it certainly was an odd circumstance. Windy died because of this (I was a second late on healing) but a Blessed Pet Rez fixed that - although it broke my heart to hear his anguished scream when he died. Brought tears to my eyes =(
Here's the % xp increase he was getting per mob:
Valley Treant Elder 0.79
Unicorn Elder 0.91
Satyr Elder 1.14
Windy started at 20% and finished with 60.08%, this took about 3 hours. Here's his stats buffed, I forgot to take a shot of him unbuffed. He normally has BtS6 (which gives him about 360mp) and Magic Barrier too, I think he was just missed in the last buff round. Next time I'll do better.
Oh and one more thing; I was Silencing the Valley Treant Elders and, although I didn't get any "...failed" messages, I couldn't see a Silence ring and the Treants still fired their wind attacks. Anyone else found this?
Just to let you guys know, in all the pictures, the hatchling is not buffed.

I am from Erica, and sadly to say, the environment to raise the pup is hard.
Not that there are people pking pets, from all my raising pet career since C1(Notice the evolution of the interface going from C1 to C3), I've only met one person who wants to raise a pet.
Needless to say, that person disappear on me after one run with pup trainning.
So basically, I can say I had level my hatchling all by myself.
Anyway, if you are interested in leveling hatchlings together on "Erica", do pop me a message, we can level hatchlings together.

I've a lvl 63 SpellSinger in B armor.
She takes her Star hatch out to nibble on the Timak orcs/Soldiers. Tanking for the hatch doesn't hurt her too badly, and she can stay ahead of the curve on heals.
Your heals and buff outdo mine by a long shot, so you might try someplace harder. Maybe Formors/Elders by the Ivory Tower?

Last night, or I should say in the wee hours of the morning, I went back to leveling my Star strider, LordVaako. We were back in Enchanted Valley and managed to knock out his final 20% to hit Level 57. All stats are with full prophet and SE buffs:
Raiseing a wind hatchling now got like 20% need to kidnap a prophet one of theses days and go do Fetters and anchor them :P
Grats on your leveling! Your little beastie is doing well with 20%! As for kidnapping, well a prophet can certainly be a hatchling's/strider's best pal, but a bishop or necromancer with their paralyze skills are also good kidnap targets for you. :) If possible, see if someone will let their Star or Wind strider tank for your little guy. We're doing this with Vaako and his "little unnamed Wind brother" and it's a great combo. Vaako gets the most XP because he's doing the most damage BUT the hatch is KSing 1% a kill in most cases so it balances out well.

It has been very fun so far, and I hope to continue leveling him with me until we both get to 55 and beyond.
A note on the name: Cable, in welch, is pronounced "cavel" and means horse. It is the root of the word cavalry. So it seemed a good name for a strider to be.

I had a "cool" screeny of a week into C2 where you can see farmer pickup my Star Strider, Solar, after a death (drop) from a mob, never to return it again, never to be seen on the server again. Can't find the sceeny anymore.. *cries*. I levelled the hatchling to strider-level in C1 using my healer.
Still <3 hatchlings (their looks, their sounds). Ill lvl a hatchling in c4 a lil for fun, won't make it a strider.. strider isn't cute and I can't use pets anyways as I'm a summoner.
If you ask me they should make pets "no drop" after you name them.
I agree that pet collars/flutes/horns shouldn't drop. What a horrible way to lose a pet, in my opinion it's worse that neglecting to have it rezzed in time.
Oh, and my friend didn't send those screenshots of his PTS Star (grrr) so I'll need to find someone else to take some or get one in the quest myself. Does ANYONE else have a Star and Twilight on PTS that can help?
Well i'm planning to raise Twillight hachling for the faster travelling by land, more affective runner in massing partyes and ofcourse for fun.
So far i did hachling quest five times, collecting eggs for different wyrm everytime...i was hoping that if i do, the last wyrm will give me an egg with a twillight inside ^^...but he didint >.<
Now i got 2 stars and 3 wind hatchlings :confused:

My star hatchling is level 53 at 43% today. We made the C4 transition pretty well however I do miss the hp. I will post a pic soon. I think I'm going to try to get the 54 ding.

Thank you so much for your sweet compliment. When I begna posting about dragons I knew I was in a tiny minority. But I'd hoped some folks would find something good in my ramblings.
CONGRATS+++ on your leveling efforts. Your baby beastie is very close to its next evolution. Will you make it a strider at 55 or continue leveling it a bit? You can always do the quest later and it will become a strider of that level. :)

I have been learning a lot about new striders in C4. My m.atk is much higher while riding on a buffed strider. It goes from 843 to 1350 with empower. If I add zerk it goes up to 1553. A nuker can nuke from the back of a strider, however, you can't use spirit shots. The riding speed is dependent upon the initial speed of the character. Therefore, a faster character (light elf male) will be faster on the back of the strider than a slower one (me). My WW2 run speed is 166, riding the strider it's 187. If I add zerk it's 195. Remember this is a star not a dusk. As a pet its stats don't change from when it was a hatchling. The nuke on this baby is great though.
I have had offers to sell this strider, on Seighardt, for 55 million adena but thats not going to happen. I'm too attached to it.
