I miss the days when if you flagged on another lowbie, they'd fight back and it would be a fun thing. These days, if you fight, the loser brings thier main and kills you or trains you. I mean..honestly, is the PvP point worth that much to you?
I've gotten to the point where I dont hunt with people, and I avoid places where people normally hunt just to save myself the aggrivation when Im leveling an alt. Went into AC today, and had a few people invite me to hunt with them, even though Im 1 shotting every mob in the area.
Every lowbie I meet sees the +10 Staff of Life I use, and begs me for money cus Im obviously rich(I blew up 4 weapons getting the **** thing to +10, not as rich as I used to be).
I miss how, in the old days, you'd see people and have to ask "what gear is that!" because they were wearing Blast Plate, or Dwarven Scale, or Reinforced leather, things you rarely see anymore because everyone has to have top gear. So many things I remember from the beginning of Lineage that have gone by the wayside.
Waiting for a comment from troll about the old days and my mom or somthing.

I blame the metagamers. Those that crave to know the effect of every single stat on every skill. Those that know every single piece of armor and weapon; mostly because they must pwn all. Hell, I've been playing over a year know and I couldn't name all the classes. I still run into people in D grade and don't know what it is.
The great overlords of erica come here to dominate but it seems the only thing they have done right is figured out the "post reply" button.
In a couple years when you get the server name right you can probably start seeing us in game too! Yay!

As for the original post I miss playing my orc for the first time. It was crazy as I had started the game on a dwarf. Using spells and melee at the same time. Then going to the arena and seeing all the guys in theca. It looked so cool back then that I tried to make a treasure hunter too just so I could use it.
The Prelude/C1 days are gone now. Everyone uses top/lux NG/D/C and noone ever picks different weapons. I think the last time I saw someone wearing something that looked nice and wasn't the popular armor was Listof.

But the problem for someone who want others armor is the availability. No one craft and sell other things than the big sellers. I'm looking right now for the price of a Complete Dwarven Chain Mail, because that's the armor I want to have when I get to C grade (I think it's one of the best looking armor on a DE female in game) but no one sells it.
I'll probably have to go with a Comp or FP for lack of other choice.
As long as people don't make other things than the top for each grade, nobody can buy other things.
Yeah back in the early days was probably the best times I've ever had during this game. I remember how happy I was when I first made Necro with my first toon. I worked so long and hard to get there, I don't think I've been as happy at any point since then.
As for the guy talking about the choices of armors. They need to make it so you can upgrade/trade for equal types of armor the way you can with d and c grade weapons.
Cruma farmer wars was probably the most fun I ever had if I'm gonna pick out a single time from way back then.
The many best days i remember myself are of the Cruma tower farmer wars, they went on for ages, regardless of who went down they just seemed to keep on comin!
At times also regardless of enemy status within certain clans, all banded together to take these certain brave farmers down!
Im not sure if anyone here remembers but, there was a funny time up at hardens academy there,we had an archer red as all hell running around us with i reckon 5 or so dwarves chasing him, when the video was released it had benny hill music to it at that point of the video.
I wish is till had the video too,it's no longer hosted on a certain L2 site i cant mention here i dont think, good days ;)
I didn't play for much of what ya'll have called the "old days", but me and some friends have found a way to experience them, in a way. We have recently rerolled some alts on a new server. We started with nothing. We've run quest after quest, we've been thankful for every drop we find, we run around in terrible gear and are happy for that, and we've used the manor system as best we can. Its been a blast. The game in those mode is quite fun. Everything's a challenge again.
Recently one of the AC reds on that server came after a group of us. And we fought back. With our crap gear and low levels, and after he wiped out most of us, he pm'd one of us and congratted us on giving it a try (and said we'd done pretty well).
Its not entirely starting over, but its pretty close. And the oddest thing? We've met a lot of nice people along the way.
Starting over, starting fresh, no offense, doesn't hold a candle to the time in this game when no one had truly mastered anything, where classes were still being explored, where the chaos of pvp was fun and exciting, where farmers actually fought back and where you were running around popping health pots and trying to get those repeatable quests done to grab something better then a hunting bow, when SS wasn't spammed but used sparingly, when buffers weren't on your second account, when SoDa was called SoDa, when cruma had premo rooms, when CT2 was dangerous, when luring one Krato out of a room at a time with a full party hacking away at the first dark red mob that scared you, when RoD Zombies dropped composite bows and they were the best drop in game, when castles were just nice scenery, when wolves were the best pets in game and sold for 30k a piece, when going to Warcry wasn't such a bad idea, when people went red with a risk, when DS wasn't just a handheld, when having a clan tag was something new, when having 100k made you rich, when running across the mountains from DEV to LEV was the only way to make good money, when partying had no formula, when having a good time meant dying a whole lot with your friends, when raiding the Ant-Queen was cool and having your mug show up on the front page of Warcy in a raid was cooler, when making friends didn't involve hand-outs, when everyone carried a bow, when Treants had silly names, when gludio was a really far "walk", when Giren was empty, when the world ended after Enchanted Valley, when the game.... was fun.

I tend to get nostalgic about prelude and C1 from time to time as well.
But I must say that I appreciate my time spent in the game as much these days,
Its a matter of what you focus on in the game.
During the old days everything was new and exacting, everyone was exploring the great new world of Aden.
Now days its about pvp, competition and accomplish goals in the game, for my part.
I would say, figure out what keeps you playing and have a fun time doing it instead of looking back.

Some really good stuff in there, Malchor. ^.^
I had so much fun in the game the first few months I played. The grind hadn't become a chore yet, everything was new. The most fun we had back then was our "clan deaths". We'd find some new place to explore and usually get wiped in the process. I still have pictures of the time we ran to Aden (from Gludio) to explore the cemetary and get a Proof of Blood for our clan (we were all around level 30.) Just running up there was fun as the archers teased us healers about how slow we were. We'd never seen Aden before and of course we all died in the cemetary. But it was so much fun, I stayed up nearly all night.
People don't take the time to just enjoy the game anymore, I don't really know why. It was so new to us back then, now it's so commonplace. I was thinking about it just the other day. I recently joined a clan on my SpS, I think they are all newer to the game than I am, or at least haven't participated in as much high level content as I have. They still get excited about stuff - I wish I could. As an alliance, we just killed two 60+ raid bosses this weekend and they were so excited. But for someone who's used to killing 70+ raidbosses, been on numerous Longhorn raids and even a Baium raid, it's just not that exciting. I've pretty much done all there is to do in the game at this point, seen every area on the map, grinded at every high level spot (2nd bridge, portal, top floor TOI, etc.), participated in tons of castle sieges (owned 2 of them), done multiple raid bosses (except for Antharas), so I feel like I've lost a lot of what originally made this game fun - the newness. I miss thinking that deaths were fun when they were with my clan, I miss running from town to town with my friends, I miss exploring new areas I've never seen, etc. I am looking forward to C4 though, with all the new content/areas, it will be fun to explore, for a while anyway. I don't think the game is as "fun" as it was originally, but I still enjoy it. :)
when I think back to the old days you know what really stands out in my mind for some odd reason?
I think of that **** repeatable quest in LEV with the fungus sacks. I did that **** quest so many times, and was glad for that 5k payoff after turning in 10 sacks. Just kept saying to myself: "just a couple more times and I can get a doom dagger, it'll be SWEET!" Then I got that and then it was on to a hunting bow.
And yeah, lol, I remember buying like 100 NG:SS and only using them in an emergency cause they were to expensive to spam.
Gawd that 24 or 25 hp bonus from wooden set was the [censored].
Never was I more happy than when Jeb hit 40 and I finished my quest, I was a dagger user, lvl 40, and I felt invinsible, until I ran to my first ever siege just to watch, I wasn't going to attack anyone or anything like that, I just wanted to see what they were like, and about two seconds after I got on the grounds shalmista hit me for some ungodly amout, think it was like 7500 dmg or something (elven set ftw).

That brings a tear to my eye, greatest post ive ever read man! props for real...
Just a few things you forget
When the highest lvl was 50 and when cruma tower was full of clan/alliance battles. When lvling 38-39 took 5days instead of 5hours. When Light Crossbows sold for 6mil and Crystalize ice bows sold for 4mil. When Orfen was the only raid boss clans could do. When there were the Red Armies bringing havoc to all the new players. When Ebay was used for Real life stuff instead of in game money. When power levelers would lvl you in cruma for 60k but 60k was upper middle class... lets all go back to the good ol days
Good post Malchor. I remember the Ti Mi Rains. I also remember when the random loot didn't work. I didn't get a single drop until almost lvl 20 - all i got was adena b/c my hunting partners tanked. old school CT was great, however. funny thing is that to this day, the grind from 35-40 has been the WORST in this game for me. and i am now 70+. i remember logging in and feeling like grinding at CT was a 9-5 job. it really was! when i FINALLY got to lvl 40 OMG - then i had to run for the rest of the day in order to become a SH. I remember creeping up to CT one day - i must have been lvl 18 maybe 22 and seeing all the shout chat - "tank LFG" "25 SO LFG", etc. - i had NO IDEA what those abbreviations meant. then i sat down and started trying to figure it out and i did. so i thought what i would classify myself as. i was a Dark Wizard. i killed stuff. Then i saw someone shout "DD LFG" - some kind of dagger i think. I thought, "man, it'd be cool if DD stood for damage dealer b/c i'm a damage dealer." and it did! So i shouted "lvl 2x Dark Wiz DD LFG" and felt so cool that i thought i'd learned some of this lingo. i soon got an invite to a party and ended up in CT 2 OMGOMGOMGOMG. they needed a healer so i was their backup healer. i could not take my eyes of the screen for more than a few seconds. i also died about 4 times but got a dwarven chain shield drop, which was worth about 350-300K at the time. good times.
I feel so saddened that I'll never be able to experience the old days. I joined just after c2 came out, and according to most of you that's when the game started to become more of a grind than anything.
I remember the day I saw the guy that made it to 75 first. I thought he was the best anyone could be. I remember that my first clan had someone in Brig with an SOR. I thought he was top [censored]. I thougt he was taller than me, even though we are the same size.
But I have watched videos and listened to stories about the prelude and c1 days. I wish I could experience them. And I don't think any other MMO ever could produce this kind of nostalgia.
L2 is a game all it's own. Unlike other games where the expansions are just added content, the chronicles here are like new games to be played. However, with each new chronicle comes the feeling that you've been playing too long. >.<
The best time I ever had in any game was Orc Island from 1-20.
Standing in line for that crappy sword quest, farming werewolves for totems, the endless Kasha Bear quests to afford D grade. The newb town actually being full and all the people actually buying and selling different NG items to try and get "uber". Making dumb mistakes and not really knowing how to play.
Fighting the big bad pvp clan that ran the island with our terribly outmatched gear. Everyone died but we killed one guy and he dropped his wolf collar, which was like the coolest thing ever. Then tricking some newb who killed Formula by offering to sell it to them outside of town and everyone in our newbie little clan jumping out and killing them.
Running around with guys like Formula, Troll, *****, Coldfyre, and KRANG, and then not seeing them for so long til we were all in Cruma Hotel, because I was such a slow *** leveler.
Just fun, and things being cool and surprising. I still think the game is fun, but it will never be what it was again.
I remember the days of people shouting for "SODA groups", and thinking that they're all nuts because SODA is a deathtrap. I was sure that place was one until i went back there about level 25 and everything was easy enough to kill... it kinda sucked once i realised that it was easy running down there.

LOL We used to jump down there, not run. :p I never really liked SODA though, it was too crowded.
I think everyone who has played somewhere between beta - C2, remembers how much this game owned compared to others. I believe that like ever server, and like life there is a cycle. I think if not with C4 then with C5 there will be a big change in the game in the community and in the way people feel about it again. As said before, Every new Chronicle feels like a new game.
I think that alot of why there is so much drama in the game is people trying to hold onto the past, trying to keep things interesting. I also feel that what happend with this game will happen with EQ. That the strong player base will stay as they continue content. Also that alot of us will try out Lineage 3 whenever it comes out. Just to get that fresh Lineage feel.
True!..I was going to point that out!
YOU FORGOT some!
When Kiss of Eva had no purpose. When there was an underwater path from TI-->gludin. When prophets were the best buffers! When Blue weapons were no where to be found! Where Overenchanting was amazing if even just to +4. When Greater heal looked like a normal heal. When a prophet could be main healer. When we had our maps on our hotbars (check second pic's hotbar rofl)
Wow... that was really old. That was when the Hand of Shilen still had a blue clan tag, and when Tharak was still with us... Before my time, to say the least, if he was hunting Cruma.
I recently perused my early C1 screenshots and had to laugh when I found some during our first Bloody Queen "raid". We had 4 full parties of level 30-40 people (I was a 34 human wizard at the time) and it was all we could do to take them down. Most of my spells failed, doing only one damage. A bunch of us died during that raid, but we finally got a proof of blood (remember when they didn't drop every time? They used to sell for lots of adena back then).
My screenshots from the end of Beta show Talking Island as a thriving community with dozens of buy/sell shops, and lots of global chats. People created adena lines and arrows for quest monsters (they weren't labeled as such back then) and sometimes we had to wait 10-15 minutes until it was our turn.
It used to be fun to organize and participate in pickup groups. It didn't matter what class you were, or who was in the party. We just went out and had fun.
Always good to know those you started with are still around. What was your wizards name, Meate? Hard to tell who's who with most of the old folks gone.
I can't believe people haven't the Elven fortress days of prelude!
I remember drooling over the screenshots when the beta came out. I wanted to play soo bad! But I was a late joiner for the open beta so there weren't many keys left. Can you believe ppl were SELLING their open beta keys on ebay?
And then one day i finally got a beta key in the email! Two actually (cuz i signed up twice). I suckered my friend into playing with me :D (we were smack in the middle of finals for our first semester at university).
We had such a blast! I was the healer and he was the fighter and I remember, being deathly afriad of those skeletons. And those mist rippers (I might have to use one of my precious lesser healing potions to fight those guys)!
Once I saw a guy training six skeletons and thot he was so out of his mind. He's so dead i thot lol! And then I met an elven fighter girl named Rylia. She held a two handed sword and spammed SS!!! She was the most insane player I had seen! She'd run in and agro and a room full of skeletons with no regard for her health. I took all my spamming of the heal button to keep her alive...and in the end me, my friend and her still died but boy that was like the funnest l2 experience of my life. I was about lv12 :)
I have been away for a while and i must say I was stunned at the differance in the game. Before he right there was allot more WOW.....now it seems that most users are not freindly anymore as they used to be. I wish they would dump a ton on ads and get us a huge noob influx so taht we all could have some fun again helping each other and watching the newer guys going WOW haha its always great when u help someone out and it turns out well. Anyway he is right I kinda came back hopin it was like the BEta and 6 month after beta times even though the servers where ALWAYS down hahaha.
Well I used to play OB, but then some real life complications kept me from signing up for Prelude and aaaaaaall the way to C3. Managed to barely activate my account for the beginning of C4. And boy the good old days never left.
After typing in my log in name and password... I desperately clicked on Kain to see... and there he was... My human knight still fresh in +3 blast plate that I got as a bargain deal on the second week of open beta. Still level 24, still **** broke and over armored and underweaponed, if such a word exists.
If it were not for the C4 event I'd be crying tears trying to come up with money to buy a decent weapon. Mine was a sword of watershadow since BACK THEN getting a saber at lvl 20 was almost a miracle or unthinkable.
It paid off to have top NG jewels btw... if you remember back then you could PvE without jewels. and now that I know how the game works, that I've read so much... it's not easy but not impossible. I came back to find tons of new quests, more rewarding quests, lots of new monsters and a very tough AI for soloers WHO ARE NOT SPELLCASTERS.
I recall vividly my first foray into the Wastelands, a longass trip to the ivory tower at lvl 14, and aggroing half of deathpass along with an Elven mystic friend who dared me to go. Visiting Giran when it was empty and finding out D stuff had crazy prices on it. Oren always struck me as grand.
Now I must go and get to know Aden Castle; since everything past C1 is still new to me, even if I have read about it or seen it on videos. I have to see it all by myself.
Everyone is right, i do miss everything u guys mentioned so far...
And i still re-roll for that perpice again to, just to start new, of course its not the same same, but its fun to re-roll once in a while....
But im also very proud of what ive acomplished so far in game, my Sps lvl 60+ is always a blast to play even tho i got no money and probably nver will, for that cursed A grade equipment :P
But when i get frustraded about A grade, i just re-roll, it a welcome change and i can equip my toons all the way to B grade...lol
