Say a friend quits the game and gives you their account and all the info WITHOUT any money changing hands is this in any violation of NCsoft rules or policies?
thats not the case. I am wondering if NCsoft has a problem with a person taking over anothers account when they quit the game. No tradeing for gain or anything just being given an account that is otherwise idle.

No matter what that account still belongs to the person that set it up. You may be playing on it and you may even pay for it, but that account could still be "recalled" at any time. It is against the User Agreement to share accounts. But with that said we do not go on account sharing witch hunts. So if this is between you and a friend... so be it. But if the poo hits the fan and you call support to have something fixed or get a refund because the account was recalled. You will be out of luck.
the account will always belong to original owner, so anything he/she does with the account will always be legal (as long as they're not breaking any rules such as using 3rd party programmes obviously)

Does this also mean buying accounts fall under the same theory since there is no way for you prove the account was bought how you know the new person is really the old person's friend? I just like to get everything clear here.
Good chance if the orginal player is from Europe and the new player is from Canada they arent IRL friends (might be a slim chance they but i highly doubt it)
I know personally on my server there are lots 75 Bought accounts that use to be adena farmer/bot accounts in C2/early c3 that are now real players.
Just want to know your take on it if account sharing is ok is buying account since there really isnt no diffence you have no way of knowing if friends didnt pay each other money for the accounts.
I don't understand what the confusion is. It's against the EULA to transfer/share the account. Buying accounts, taking over accounts, etc all fall in this catagory. There doesn't seem to be any "what if" questions that can be asked.
If NC decides to enforce it or not is another question.

Because some people just don't get it.
Sure, you can buy an account (or be given one) but it never really belongs to you. I believe that the very reason it is against the EULA is to protect NCSoft from having to sort these kinds of things out, after the fact.
So in other words in can sell my account on Ebay then after a day or two ask for it back from NCsoft.... dame that is a nice bizz :p

No, first you wait a week or two, so that they get the subscription paid up, and get the account nicely equipped. Then reset the password and 'rent' it to someone else.

but what about couples sharing I.E a married or dating couple, if they have knowledge of each others accounts , since bother are somewhat married I.E joint accounts is that still a violation lol, this has always puzzled me.

It is correct but it would unfortunately also constitute fraud (felony fraud depending on the amount of $$$ exchanged). It might possibly even constitute federal wire fraud depending on how the money is exchanged, across state lines, etc. One of my personal acquaintances from a local LAN center got himself 9 months probation and a $2000 fine for scamming someone with an L2 account.
