Spent so much time in the live servers, and my first time on a pts like game was when this c4 pts came out.
Wow, i think this is how the game should be played,
no more boreing grinding ,
pvp for areas that are the best to exp at ,
the only thing that needs to change is the cats, they need to be removed, and the exp penalty doubled.
the reasons why this would be bad is obvious. i can't believe someone is stupid enough to not realize them.
 I believe NCs other game, GuildWars, has a pvp server where players start out at max level. This is for people who just want to PvP, without the grind.
While ye may be a purist, I believe a server like this would expand the player base, and ultimately result in better service - more servers - more money - better chronicles.
if a PTS style server was brought out i would be there with no hesitation. C4 PTS is [censored] awesome, its the lineage 2 i have always wanted but never had.
Lineage 2 Public Test Server - The way Lineage 2 is ment to be!
the reasons why this would be bad is obvious. i can't believe someone is stupid enough to not realize them.
Are you kidding me?
I walk over to any hunting spot and it is alive with people exping, pvping, i've never been so happy to walk from aden rather then port just to see who is in the cemetary ( who is ganking the entire field ).
I think it's better then the BOT TRAINS EVERYWHERE TYVM.
On hind i go to exp at BS, bot trains everywhere and like maybe 2 real people, why play such a game, i'm hopeing this will get better in c4.
So what would be so bad about a PTS-Live server?
Could it be 1/2 your server would quit to go there, probably so cause it's a better game.
Could it be that there would be no bots/adenaINC users?
And yes this is how i think lineage should be played, everyone should be able to pvp without thinking of loseing 5 hours of work on a death, and where the botters dont get to pvp all they want cause they just bot that exp if they lose it.
its fun now because its different, fast, alot of people and no bots ( ok a few )
If however this would be made into a life server, bots will move here aswell, market will get insanely expensive eventually since the demand will go up way to soon and people will be able to sell their stuff for a zillion adena, so people would still ebay, thus bottrains will once again invest the hunting grounds.
not even mentioning pvp... with karma being washed in under 2 minutes PK fest will start, useless ganking all day long without the person even staying red long enough to hurt. with this rates everybody will max lvl in a month and then the boredom starts aswell.
i agree with the first reply.. its stupid, why ? because it would be a whole other game and you cant estimate how much would change when it gets to be a live server
>>thus bottrains will once again invest the hunting grounds.
This will NEVER happen I will PK all and wash in 40-60 sec.
Heck we kill real players w/ impunity, bots will be just wasted out (leveling Sin eater in 60's takes a few minutes) just in sight.
Actually 2 times we killed a few ppl who looked like bots. They were not. Just took some adena drops and didn't interact -> bam!

Bots would be so owned if they ever came here, don't try to argue that, cause karma is gone in 5 kills at 3 pk's.
As for reaching max level and being bored, i doubt that because of the pvp that WILL happend for the hunting areas.
Also, it doesn't mean they have to make the exp 10x, perhaps 4x? It will still be hard to level at top levels ( .04% for 30k exp) + people will pvp without haveing to worry about loseing a day's work.
Grinding should be a competition, over the best hunting areas, and people should fight to the death not omg BSOE!
For instance at FP yesterday, 4v4 near the back end, we fought we died, we won we exped, untill they came back and then we'd fight again.
Also i want you to tell me how many REAL buffers there are in the game, that play a lot and are not Dualboxed,
How many healers, o yeah.. almost none.
How many dwarfs have quit because they simply cannot exp even with all their adena, cause of the gimp exp they get from killing hard mobs.
How many tanks have quit the game cause no one wants to party anymore just dualbox (play with themselves lol)
How many elven elders quit cause they buffs aren't even good in pvp, they are only usefull in pvp.
How many quit because their weapon dropped and they simply can't afford a new one w/o ebaying.
Lets face it, pts = pvp so all classes are usefull, there is plenty of adena to craft your gears ( but this would be changed because of the cats removed, again makeing dorfs more important)
if you're red and you drop your weapon, omg, at least i can make a new one without getting rid of your last paycheck, unless you want to quit the game.
But the best thing is on the PTS there is no grudges and RL death threats cause it's FUN.
as for you people that think it's not a good idea, blah, think about other players first, they aren't all grind 24/7 for 5 % after 70 +and lose-it-all-in-1-death.
Not to be harsh, but if PTS is refreshing to you to the point you want to live on it then you should not be playing this game. The essential unqiue part of L2 is a the hard grind for new skills/lvls.

been there done that...
Now i wanna pvp without loosing all those levels in a couple of hours, k thx.
it would be nice for some of the people that arent as hardcore. i know your going to say go play WoW if you cant handle it. It would accomendate for the people that really like that game but can only play for a couple hours a week and it does add a ton to the game seeing more people being different classes and not so cookie cutter with everyone being the samething. And for the ebayng part i really dont see it being a very bad problem cuz you could grind for a couple of hours and get the money.
You could still have the 1x server cuz if you got bored of the boosted server you could just go back to the 1x server.
The real key to the PTS is the Helper Cats. They control inflation by providing all possible materials at a semi-reasonable price without relying on the game's hideous drop rates (which are also improved on the PTS).
So yeah, if the cats stuck around, a live 'PTS-Style' server would be great for casual players. The naysayers are the hardcore people that feel that you need to really sacrifice 2-3 years of your life to get to 75.
If they got rid of the cats, I'd suggest 10x item drop, 4x xp/adena rates. This keeps the market flooded with goods and materials but prices should be lower because money is still scarce. Oh, and if you really needed something you could always just go farm it yourself. The current drop rates in the game are ridiculous and you can't really hunt for anything you need. You always have to rely on the higher level people to hunt the higher level mobs that drop the gear you need. I think this was supposed to promote communication and teamwork but all it did was result in the lower level people funding the higher level players due to extreme markup.
PTS is great though, lots of fun and enjoyable all around whether you're getting pk'd or just off grinding away and hoping for a drop. Its actually a game this way instead of a second job.
Having the cats on the live server. Double their prices so that people are still better of buying their stuff from real player vendors. But no more having to buy items at 100-1000x the shop value.
It would be a mortal blow for a lot of farmers as well. No need to have 200 million adana when you can get your gear for reasonable prices that you can earn by just playing the game.
It would be a mortal blow for a lot of farmers as well.
Only problem is it wouldn't land.... lol
I 100% agree that a relax style server would be great. If I remember the only thing that o***** against your time per week is when you are out hunting, and the drop rates are slightly higher than the xp/sp rates. Sure there would be bots, but casual people would have much more of a chance since another big problem is people paying to have their toons played 24/7. Now, if everyone has the same limited amount of time per week all of us snuggly carebears would at least be at the same levels.
Its not like another server would blow the customer support budget anyway. lol
Why would NCSOFT create PTS style Live server and SCREW everyone thats post 60 in on the Live servers now?
ALL THAT HARD WORK? You n00bs can brush aside all the hard work and time people who have been playing for years on these servers have already invested but you n00bs are in the minority.
It WONT happen so dont ask for it. Possibly a limited time server as the korean "relaxed" server is but not a FULL LIVE SERVER that is like the PTS.
Again, you wanna play WoW? GO PLAY WOW. Dont make l2 into one.

I agree with you that there should not be a PTS like live server, but how would it screw people over? I don't get what you mean really. If the people that would leave the live servers are such noobie snuggle bears wouldn't it leave more hunting/pvp ground for all the other super leet people that are 60+?
The point is that lots of people have spent a LOT of time already playing on the servers. If there were these "easy" servers from the start, these people may have had the choice to play on those from the get go and be better off now. Bringing in a LIVE server like the PTS would negate all that hard work and time put in by these people who have dedicated themself to playing this game hard-core and although the servers they play on would still be "hard-core" compared to these new "relaxed servers" it would still breed an animosity and anger that they find some n00b thats playing on these live relaxed servers that have become higher level then them in a tremendous shorter time then they have been playing. Then they would feel cheated and they themselves would want to play on these relaxed servers and henceforth start from "scratch" again negating all the time they already put into this game.
You should understand that there is nothing more irksome in seeing someone advance in front of you who isn't deserving, when those left behind have put in 10x more effort and time into a game to see/play content that some n00bs on a relax server is playing after 1-3 months.

Im with you on a lot of your points, however I think only an idiot would brag about his/her chracter on a relaxed server to somebody that plays on a normal one.
Also, the relaxed server in Korea has play time limits. Of course the rates are higher, but you would not have people playing 24/7 and hitting 75 in a week like you see on the PTS here.
I think the biggest drawback to a relaxed server is the same thing that makes games like WoW unappealing to me. If you can get everything so easily, you get bored quickly and move on to something else. I think that's the bigger problem. The whole limited playing time could offset this though. Of course, you will always have people that say "I am paing my money so I want to play 24/7," so there is no way to win.

NC soft bring up a live server like the PTS!
Sure, why not? And wipe it once a month.
Not once a month - but that would be fun. Lineage II has a potential in this direction which is far different from what it currently offers (and which can never replace it in my opinion), which people are very ready to close their eyes on.
helper cats are gay in live servers, thatway item/mat drops from mobs might as well be put to 0 since the game wouldnt be a player based econemy anymore. one thing i love about L2 is how the market goes up n down. when you can get mats at a set price you`ll set a max and even a min vallue for every item, and everything will be so easy to get it takes away the challange.
seriously if you want a PTS type server theres only 1 sollution, make it so new chars are automaticly max lvl, since grinding takes NO effort what so ever. PK and pvp never result in karma or XP loss, this will all be the same as killing 2 mobs to get back what you lost. to me the thrill of pvp is the risk of losing... but on your pts style losing means crap, and attacking people, ganking, will be nonstop by some people making it unplayable for people who are arround those people

You established that XP/grinding takes no effort. The only thing that you risk losing in PVP is XP. Thus, there is really no risk because you can gain the xp back without any effort.
And the Test Cats are great for keeping inflation in check. Their prices are set high enough that players could undersell them and still make a healthy profit. Its just that no one wants to waste the time working that market over since its only a temporary server.
After looking at server concecpts, I think implementing them would be a great idea, 1st it would allow player choice to choose type of gameplay that suits them, 2nd it would reduce population on overpopulated servers (if a fair system would be set up to allow active toons to migrate with a fair amount of aquired stuff), 3rd it would increase overall palyer base by allowing players the option to choose thier play style. To all of you that feel this is not a good idea tough, so you loose afew ppl to pk, sell stuff to,or scam, or maybe it's that some ppl don't have to grind as much as you did, get over it it will be on a differant server and you will still be top dog on your's. I'm all for player choice, my vote is yes.

Wow, you're incredibly naive if you think that everyone gets what they deserve. This game doesn't support that concept either. Ive hunted mobs for days only to have a friend walk over and kill a few (literally 4) and get the drop I was hoping for. It happened to me twice.
Just think of it as a seperate flavor of the same game. Your feelings of animosity towards the people on the easier server would be similar to being mad that your friend beat Doom3 on easy while you played it on hard. The experience isn't the same and that's the whole point.
Having a high level on the easier server wouldn't be as much of an accomplishment so people wouldn't be as awed. It wouldn't have the same prestige/stigma as it does on the current set of servers. It would actually make the accomplishment on the real server far more impressive because all of the people who start playing to be on the relax/easy server would actually know what game you're talking about. They'd recognize that you put in alot more time to compete on the hard-core servers. :D
You call me naive? I call you a n00b. If you cant handle what the game is, then its really simple. Leave. Lineage 2 is not WoW and it should stay that way. Its billed as a hard-core game. If you dont like that? tuff.

So no actual response to my point other then if you don't like it leave?
NCSoft being wiser then yourself doesn't agree with you. They have provided a forum so that players can make suggestions if they don't like something. This is that forum. So if you don't like what the forum is for.. then maybe this isn't the forum for you.

Hello tough boy on the internet. Adding a server like this will in no way hurt you, your pretty toon, the work you have put into it or anything that conserns your hard core playing style. It simply creates oppertunities (spelling) for those of us that do not have as much time as you to put into this game and for NC Soft it attracts more paying customers.
Like I said before. You dont want to put in the time and hard work required to play this game? Its probably not for you. Almost everyone who have played since retail and even open beta have put a TREMENDOUS time into this game already. If you cant do what most of us already have, then again, leave. This game isn't for you.

I've been around since open beta. I've logged alot of hours on the game. I'm also smart enough to realize that its not perfect. Opening up an additional server in no way devalues the time that I've put into my original character because I enjoyed most of the time that I spent playing.
So back to the original topic...
There seems to alot of people in favor of offering different versions of the game to try to appeal to different types players. It would benefit NCSoft financially to try to appeal to a additional audiences as well.
By the way its a game... you can talk about all the hard work you put into it but in the end they're going to shut down the servers and its all going to be gone.

I have a 74 hawkeye and had a 58 gladiator in C1. I've put in alot of time into this game. However the ammount of time you have to put in is ridiculous for people with school/work and lifes.
Sure the time you have to put in to actively PvP and still level may appeal to some of you but only to a limited customer base. What are you afraid of introducing a server like this? Your server will still be just the way it is, it doesn't concern you at all. Are you afraid that people will be able to enjoy the game and still have a life outside of the game?
IF they brought to L2 a PTS-like live server, I like what SirE said, it should be wiped once a month. With increased droprates and xp/adena, it will;
-Attract more casual players
-Since it gets wiped, hardcore players would still play on their higher toons on Live
-Allow people with less play time due to school/work/whatever to enjoy L2
Secondly- If it was implemented with wipes every 1/2/3 months, I think helper cats would be a great idea. That way everyone could get their gear and everything. BUT, think of where we'd be with the helper cats if NC didn't give us adena and crystals. Bss is like 100a for one, and someone said that mats are like 10x thier live price.
If there was no wipe, I'd be against cats. 10x droprates/xp/adena is too much to have helper cats as well. 20-40 on PTS can easily get you more than 5mil.
Even if they did this, im sure many "hardcore" people would be bored with this, and go back to live anyways.

A lot of people? LOL you think some board trolls amount to a lot of people? NO. There is not a LOT of people playing Lineage 2 that share your opinion. Some do for sure, but dont think your in the majority. Otherwise why do you think they are still playing the game in "hard-mode?"
Look. You want an easy game to play? Lineage 2 isnt it and no matter how much you or anyone else whines, complains, blah blah blah, it isnt gonna get easier. That game is already out there called WoW. People have tried it, and found it very very wanting. Thats why they seek harder games like Lineage 2. OK?
This little whining about relax servers has been around since beta. If you were in beta like you said, you'd know by now how to shut up.

74 Hawkeye in C1? Hmm guess you got banned on that account or something similar? Cause I've been around for quite some time and 74 in C1 was still very very rare, in fact I'm not sure if people were even 75 yet in C1. Also, most everyone in C1 who were in there 70s were a BOT users anyway. So which one were you?

Read again. I have a 74 hawkeye (now, hit 74 mid C3 and still havn't leveled) and had a 58 glad (in c1). I'm perfectly legit, no botting, no ebaying, no one has access to my account but me. I've "worked" (it's a game, please) for everything I have all by myself.
Yes, alot of people. Have you seen all the private servers out there? Thats alot of people that would play if there was a retail server with higher rates. Personally I would never play a private server no matter what.
The fact that people still play on the "harder" servers say nothing but that it's the only way to play atm. About lineage being easy or not, lineage is very easy but takes alot of time. WoW is easy but takes less time. Although the PvP in lineage is more fun and I think it would attract alot of the customer base from WoW if there was a boosted server. Again this doesn't have any effect on the people that want to play it "harder".
Just the fact that people have wanted relax servers since open beta must mean something, no?

You do realize the active playerbase of Lineage 2 is going down monthly right? Yeah, go do the research fanboi.
I've been around since OB and there has always been quite a few people who aren't happy with the system. There are also quite a few people who just give up on the system and cheat. There are the people that left the game for private servers and other games.
We're not even saying that they need to do away with the harder servers. We're saying they should offer another option. If you don't like the option because you realize you've wasted a large chunk of your obviously pathetic life on this game then it serves you right. You don't really like it hard, you just have nothing better to do with your time. If you liked the harder difficulty then you wouldn't want to join the easier server anyway so it wouldn't impact you at all.
I think you need to go find the newbie trainer to teach you how to use the forums too. This is the suggestion forum where you get to make suggestions to NCSoft so this isn't the place to be telling people to shut up. If you have a suggestion, add it but it seems like you have nothing intelligent to add.

Where did you get your information? You say that player number for Lineage 2 is going down monthly? How the hell do you know? You want me to do the research, yet your the one making blanket statements without any proof? I have all the proof by looking at the status for servers. All I see is that its getting FULL on almost all servers. THAT looks like Lineage 2 is getting more people, not less. Thats how I justify my conclusion, now I'd like to see yours?
You have been around since OB. So have I. I've seen people quit, and most of them have come back after trying game x, y and z. Whats your point? I still see the server status as Normal or Full. That indicates to me it doesnt mean squat if 1 or 2 players quit, because the number of new players > number of players quitting.
How ignorant are you to say that "you realize you've wasted a large chunk of your obviously pathetic life on this game"? Dont YOU play it too? I guess this applies to you as well and your calling out almost everyone thats playing the same? Why the hell would "WE" share your opinion when we are playing the game and your just calling us names? We like it the way it is. Its fine. Your the one that obviously has a problem with it. If you ask me its more pathetic that you play the game WHILE you think people are pathetic that play this game. Its ironic isn't it?
Obviously you did not read the little sticky on this forums tops. It says you can make suggestions and people can either support it or not. Well my opinion flat out is that I dont support your reasons for wanting a "relax server". Sounds absolutely valid to me.
the reasons why this would be bad is obvious. i can't believe someone is stupid enough to not realize them.
Please don't bypass the profanity filter.
PTS = Lineage 2 in fast foward
You would bore of this game in a few months just like all those WoW players that left and came back. The glory of L2 is in the grind, even though I think they need to balance classes a bit. PTS is exciting now, cause it's new. You decieve yourself if you think it will be fun after 3 months of this and you have 3 chars that are 78/78/78/78/78. You will quit and NCsoft will lose the hooks it had in you.

I think the real hook of the game is the pvp and owning the castles. I don't think the grind is the hook. If that is the hook... its a pretty lame hook. I agree that 10x is a bit too fast but 1x is just brutal at higher levels and is actually counterproductive if you actually want people pvp'ing actively. If it cost you a week to get 5% there is no way you're going to want to risk losing part of that. The end game for WoW is the battlegrounds and raiding... both of which get very old very quickly. Sieging and trying to maintain control over the continent is a far more interesting end game. The problem is that only a very small % of the number of people that buy the game will ever play long enough to see it.

First, when you want information you go to the source. Fact, this game is losing players. This game originally sold 86,000 retail copies during prelude. The game currently has 70,000 active subscribers. This means that the game is loser people faster then its gaining them despite the fact that there are people buying multiple accounts and farmers having to buy new accounts to replace ones that have been banned.
NCSoft (http://www.ncsoft.com)
Go to press releases and look up the announcement for the release of new Lineage2 timecards, it should be on the first page and is the subscription number for December.
The original number of Lineage 2 retail units sold is under the press release titled: NCsoft Announces 2nd Quarter Financial Results that was from 8/5/2004.
There's no way to know the rate of change but that's definitely a negative net.
There's no way to know why the servers are full when they've actually got fewer people per server then when the game first came up. (Teon wasn't added until the end of C1) It could just be that the newer versions of the game are far more intensive on the hardware and they can't support as many concurrent connections. All I know is that its not because they have more people.
:D

I don't see him assuming his central point - that subscriber numbers fell. He provided numbers and a source. I'm too lazy to check, but I doubt he'd link to something that contradicts what he said.
Please stop weasling out every time someone pushes a serious arguement on you.

Guess I need it spelled out in really simple terms for you:
forum pwn'd you n00b
Do you get it now?
The subscription base for this game isn't going up. The game that you mock currently has 5mil active subscribers. That means that you're in a definite minority.
The majority of MMO players would like to see a more casual friendly game. This suggestion is that NCSoft tries to offer a few Lineage2 servers that cater to that market and reclaim some market share. The Lineage2 game looks great, is fun to play but is far too hard core for a mainstream audience. NCSoft NA could make a bundle on this game if they really wanted to.
The current number of people playing MMO's in the United States is somewhere around 3.5m based on a Yankee Group poll. Lineage 2 claims 70k of those people. 2% of all people playing MMO's think this game is worth playing. I think that number speaks for itself.
We need diffrent types of servers!
NC Soft would gain many more players.
They dont have to be super easy. Just more relaxed.
Also they should have Non PvP servers.
I dont like it when I have spent hours to get 5% exp and some joker comes out of nowhere and kills me for no reason.
If its a siege or a clan war, thats one thing, but plain murder sucks and should not be aloud. A non PVP server would stop this. Alot of people have quit the game because of this. We have arenas for private fights. If you die you should not lose exp gained. Just that would be an awsome change to the game.
Just because I dont like something doesnt mean I would quit.
I SIMPLY EXPRESSED SOME IDEAS,. I THINK THAT IS WHAT THESE FORUMS ARE FOR .!!!
I have been here since the beginning and dont think I will quit now after all my hard work. LOL
How can anybody get satisfaction out of sneakin up on some one they know is a lower level and PKn um.
Guess they could not win a fair fight in the arenas and for sure in C4 Olympiad. So they will get theirs or they will just be PKers for ever LOL. :)
I want to play on NCSoft servers not some dupped server.
It is in NCSoft's best intrest to offer diffrent types of servers so all can enjoy Lineage in their own way.
If they dont Lineage is not gona be around much longer. :(
Its a dog eat dog world in MMORG and if you only have 2% of the market you are not gona be around much longer.
$$$$$ its all about money$$$$$$$$$ Why can't NCSoft make more people happy and make more money.
NO one is gona make you change servers if you dont want to.
I think more options for diffrent servers keeps the game on longer for everyone. Even you hard core PKers.
For those of you live in Mars, there are already hundreds of high rates lame private servers out there. Go there and give us a break.
So there are hundreds of private servers out there with player bases based on higher rates?
So if they implemented this there is a good chance that they'd regain lost players and attract new players to the game?
Wow, thanks for the helpful information to make this all the more appealing to the North American offices which I'm sure want to increase the player base and their subscription revenues. If what you say is true then there's obviously a large demand for this and it'd be foolish not to supply the product since altering server rates shouldn't be that complicated!
no its not appealing, plenty of people left because of the montly fee(specially younger players)
non pvp server ?( no not multiple, that would be even more stupid) this game is pvp based.. at higher lvls being PKed is pretty rare, since alot of people are to scared to kill people in a row in fear of losing gear.
So there are hundreds of private servers out there with player bases based on higher rates?
Yes

Not really

Np :) I'm pretty sure North American/European offices already know about private servers.
Most players playing on those servers are not capable of paying monthly subscriptions.
Average playing period of players in these servers is hardly 2 months. After that they get bored as hell since you reach end content in a few weeks.
In the end if they (NCSoft) implement a high rates server they'll hurt their own product.
Oh! And altering server rates is probably 3 clicks away.
again suck it up or leave. We dont want children playing this game.
I love this guy !
Its like, "look, i played this stupid useless grind-grind-grind all day long for years because i have no life at all, everybody complains about it and is leaving the game because of it, the game is the fullest of bots and adena buyers there is out there, even the US version of RFOnline will get rid of this grind and this stupid L2-like economic system because the developpers realize that its completely uninteresting for a western audiance, BUT you all should do just what i did and lose 3 years of your life just leveling a pixel-animated character !"
Oh yeah, and of course : "n00b".
LMAO !!!!

out of nongrade yet ? nobody needs haters around here. if you dont like the game why play it. you probebly whining to people who actually play and enjoy the game, because you got tired of being owned by keltir, or you couldnt play enough because you got to go to bed early because mommy says so
nobody needs haters around here. if you dont like the game why play it
I do not hate the game, i love it actually, but i think its a shame that its so full of waisted potential.
Every nice feature of this game is only accessible at very high level, and most of us (maybe not you, i dont know) have a real life out there, we're not those korean guys that die in front of their computer (yes it really happens).
So, yes, basically we'd like to play a game thats more suited for a casual play.
That wouldnt stop you from playing hardcore if thats what you like, and some dudes could still show their 75-lv character as the pride of their life (well...sure, whatever), but what people are asking repeateadly on these boards is the ability to play Lineage more than one only way.
Why do you think WoW have so many subscribers and L2 so little (and going down) ? L2 could easily beat the sh*t out of WoW if the US version was more "westernized"...
or you couldnt play enough because you got to go to bed early because mommy says so
LOL
Yea i guess you're right, you do know me really well dont you ?
I love how these immature guys think that if you disagree with them, you must be a 14-yo noob !
There's a good chance i'm twice older than you, but i dont see the point of this kinda competition :p
I'm not saying nor do I agree with the high rates the PTS has for the live servers. But other changes can help bring more customers in. Maby double the rate now on some servers. Or maby 1/2 the rate for you hard core players on others. .
Or non PVP servers , with same rates. There are many diffrent ways to have it. I agree that PTS rates are way to high for normal servers. I am looking forward to C4. Cant wait. Been playing with a few friends since the beginning. We all have toons in the 60s and lower alts. I enjoy playing with my friends. This game has so much potental for the NA customer, and I hope NCSoft does something about it.
I'd like to just remind about Lineage 1, where LoA server was created after NC was pushed to the wall after ummm, ******ed features of some update (I might be wrong about this one though, what was the reason of it showing up - any old L1 players could shed some light on it ?). And that server became the most popular one. For obvious reasons.
Why they started L2 serivce in NA, only with 3 servers when it was obvious that it wouldn't be enough (how many customers you lost just then, eh ?), and ended with 9 identical ones, is beyond me. And stunnig how people are unable to learn from the past.
Why do you think WoW have so many subscribers and L2 so little (and going down) ? L2 could easily beat the sh*t out of WoW if the US version was more "westernized"...
WoW is hugely advertised (Blizzard), in some cases even on TV.
WoW is very impressive early, thus many players subscribe. One month later half of them quit.
WoW will probably be history once games like DnD online come out (L2 will not).
There are many "westernized" games out there, can I play a "easternized" one?

I don't recall it being in the suggestion where they take away the regular servers. The original 1x servers would still be there in all their leet glory and they would just put up easier servers which they can call 'OMG!!1! N00BZ CANT PLAY HA12DC0R3' servers for all I care.
The point is that even at 3x-5x rates the game would still take time to play so people wouldn't get tired of it in a month but it would be more competitive for the people that can't play 8 hours daily.
WoW has retained a significant number of their user base so your little theory about everyone quitting isn't true. There will always be subscriber loss for every service but they should hope to make that up with new subscribers. Lineage 2 will most likely not be shut down due to a lack of a userbase. I'm not here screaming doom about that because most of the costly development is going to be done anyway for the Korean market. The NA/Euro market just has to make enough to cover the costs of their staff/offices/etc and even then they're being bolstered by City of Heroes.
There's a market out there that wants Lineage2 but would rather not play it on the hardcore mode because there's so much right about this game. Its just a pity that they don't want to want make more money.

Its actually rated 'T' for Teen much like every other MMO on the market. It's posted right on the bottom of the landing page for www.lineage2.com. (http://www.lineage2.com.) So you can drop the 'ADULT' argument and all caps right there sport.
I'm amazed you'll still post in this thread after being proven wrong so many times. Many of the people complaining about this are adults. Adults have responsibilities that prevent them from playing the required number of hours to compete or progress in the game.
Just because the game imposes a mindless grind and thousands of hours of playtime to even approach the end game does not mean that its adult. It just means that its a huge time sink. Most adults don't need a huge time sink, there are enough of those in the real world already.
In addition, this thread isn't even asking to get rid of the existing servers so you can continue to play the game the way you want to play it. The people suggesting this idea are just making sure that NCSoft realizes that there is a market for an accelerated server and that they're sacrificing revenue. By continuing to bash this idea you're doing a disservice to the company and your fellow players. Additional revenues benefits the company which then benefits the players because they have more to invest to make their service even better for all of their players.
WoW will probably be history once games like DnD online come out (L2 will not)
Dont be so sure about it, i'm currently playing the beta of DDO and, while there's a lot of nice features that really recapture the feeling of the real pen & paper D&D (which i've been playing for about 20 years now), this "all instanced quests" system wont be for everyone...
I know its an early and carefully thought design choice from the DDO producers, but thats what made me quit City Of Heroes & Villains :(
I havent played WoW yet because of the cartoonish design, but i keep hearing so much great things about it (i'm mostly a role-player, and it seems that the game is really aimed at that) that i might give it a try if NCSoft America/Europe fails to provide a more westernized way of playing Lineage II.
And no, of course i'm not saying that ALL servers should be changed, i'm just saying that there could be something for everyone.
Whine! Whine! WHINE! This thread is so chock full of whiners its funny. Like its been so many times, if you cant handle an ADULT game, leave ok kiddie?

This is the most ABSURD thing I have ever heard. I am a responsible adult. Because of that, I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME TO WASTE ON THIS GAME'S CURRENT GRIND. Should I quit? Why? I love the game and its potential. A casual, accelerated server would be perfect for me and others like me. You know, RESPONSIBLE adults. The ones with spouses, children, and full-time jobs.
The only "adults" who could successfully grind their way to 60+ are those who are not very responsible and who do not live in the real world (aka - they still live in their mother's basement). You need to shut up and grow up. Stop calling everyone else "children" when it is obvious, by your behavior, that you are the child here.
If you want to debate the necessity of casual servers, then give us some real rebuttals, not just childish insults and banter. If you can't do that, shut up and let the grown-ups talk.
Why do you think WoW have so many subscribers and L2 so little (and going down) ? L2 could easily beat the sh*t out of WoW if the US version was more "westernized"...

WoW and L2 is a world away in terms of advertising in NA/Europe.
The regular player of WoW reach end content in a few months while the regular player o L2 may play 2 years.
WoW may have more subscribers but they don't last long. L2 has fewer but they tend to pay 24 months or so.
To the topic:
THERE ARE ALREADY SERVERS FOR THOSE THAT CANNOT HANDLE THE GRIND!

Please direct me to your actual usage data for WoW and Lineage 2 by the way.
Point is that there is a market for this and that market is considerably larger then the one they're serving at the moment. I'm not even saying get rid of the smaller market, I'm suggesting they serve both.
Whine! Whine! WHINE! This thread is so chock full of whiners its funny. Like its been so many times, if you cant handle an ADULT game, leave ok kiddie?
'nuff said
Its actually rated 'T' for Teen much like every other MMO on the market.
Like ALL your posts so far, you keep posting without any proof whatsoever. I exactly have I been proven "wrong"? You must be saying this from your own delusional point of view. I mean, servers are starting to get FULL again on ALL 9 servers. That indicates to me that people are more than happy playing on the servers we have now?
If you can't handle that, again, just leave? People more qualified than you have asked for "relaxed" (mean WoW style easy) servers before and IT AINT GOING TO HAPPEN?
Unless there's a MAJOR policy change that happens in NCSOFT, which I seroiusly doubt we will see anytime soon, your not gonna see something like this til...what? Maybe after Chronicle 12? pfft.
As for adults not being able to play this game properly. I have a job, I have a family. I play it just fine. I've never ebayed or will, BUT I have invested wisely and made a heck of a lot of money legit in game. All it takes is patience, time and doing your research on the market. An "ADULT" would know how to do this? Unless of course you live down in your mommy's basement.

Go back and reread the thread. I've shown you more then enough information provided by NCSoft themselves that shows that their subscription numbers have gone down. They have more servers yet they claim that more of them are full. Its definitely due to more players. (Point #1 where you were wrong.)
You claimed that its an adult game. (I pointed you towards the rating system which in fact declares that its a Teen game so #2 where you were wrong. There is no age range for this game so you can drop that line of reasoning right there. Its like any other game and designed for a large age range.)
Those playing aren't necessarily happy which is another one of your false assumptions. It just means they don't like their other options as much but as you can see from the forums that are not happy with the current situation. As soon as there is a better option presented this portion of the playerbase will leave.
You can claim what you wish but you argue like a child and you throw temper tantrums. At this point a board moderator should just ban you for trolling. Thank you for bumping the post by the way.

You still haven't responded to the fact that I've proven you wrong on a number of occasions. You've now resorted to baiting and trolling.
The point still stands that NCsoft has the potential to make alot of money with this product if they offered servers with altered rates geared towards casual players (or at least would allow casual players to attempt to compete since people could more easily hit cap).

baiting and trolling? How am I baiting and trolling? Im just responding to you and Im still saying we dont need a relaxed server, as you can see from the subject header?
I thought we were talking about you wanting a relaxed server? Why are you going off on a tangent now about NCSOFT marketting? I think thats another thread?
In fact I think thats several threads thats already been talked about to death, yet again. You are serously sounding quite repetitive.
You've been making almost personaly jabs throughout the whole thread. You've not provided a basis for your arguement - none whatsoever.
I don't know which of your behaviour doesn't smell like trolling - no amount of postcount can stink that badly in this regard.
Here, for you to c&p, a proper arguement against high rate servers.
High rate servers would be a stab to the ego and a frustration to many people who have already played the grind in a competitive way for 2 years - it would cheapen their experience.
I don't think that people who play private servers are so much turned off as the grind, but more interested in different builds of the game and too greedy in real life to pay the subscription fee.
I am aware of the fact that they can all afford it (if you can afford a computer that can run Lineage II and an internet connection, how do you not have 15 dollars a month spare?), but some people simply don't want to spend the money if they can find a way around it. The only way to move them back to live would be to close private servers down.
That said, I still vote for an Alternative Ruleset server that returns the MMORPgrind back into a game.
I love the grind and would never leave it fully, but an alternative server based around single events with an officially defined goal and long-term rewards (i.e. people who beat the last goal get an edge on the next one) would help those people who cannot handle the sand box (such as BlazerX, who apparently has not noticed yet that there are others who would like to play in his).

Where the hell do you get off telling me that I've been making these personal jabs at people throughout the thread? I've been expressing my opinion that we dont need a "PTS-Style" server throughout and consistently and I've made more than enough posts explaining why I think its a bad idea. In fact you responded to several of such posts.
now your telling me that I've been making personal jabs at people? If you are going to acuse me of this on this board, I hope you have some good proof of that. Please find them and quote them here for me. How I made these "personal jabs" at people?
Just because you disagree stronly with my opinion of being anti against easy servers, it doesnt give you the right to take this board spat to a personal level. I've never made a "personal jab" ever and you had better have some good evidence that I made one, before you acuse me of doing so.
Again, I reiterate, I do not believe in a PTS style relaxed server. Its too easy and this game doesnt need to become a WoW clone.

Y'know based on post histories you have far more complaints about the game then I do. I'm just looking for them to add a few additional servers to satisfy the players out there that don't enjoy the pace of the current servers and offering support of attempting goal oriented servers.

I forgot that when you want something changed its a suggestion. When others request something its a whine.
LOL that post you made got me rolling. You are certifiably insane. truly. Those posts I made were actual game suggestions. What i wish they would add in a future chronicle. Very legit posts in a forum for suggesting game improvements, etc.
On the other hand.
YOU want to change the entire game into a clone of what is already out there. WoW. Thats not asking for a wish list of something to be added into a game that is already in production. What you want is to redefine the entirety of how this game is played. Like many have said before. You have a problem with the game mechanics as it is and want it to be some clone of another game thats out there? Go there ok? Leave us please.

If you think I want WoW then you haven't read anything that I've posted.
You request a chaos machine and you want a GM that actively causes things to happen on the server. There are already events which happen periodically in the game. If those aren't good enough for you then perhaps you should try WoW because they have lots of events happening all of the time. Quite a few are linked to quests which means you'd have exactly what you requested. There are also dungeons underneath some of the cities in WoW. Seems you're asking for alot of things that are already present in another game.
WoW is nothing like this game and you might want to try it if you think that they have anything in common. Even at higher rates they would have nothing in common.
This game is focused on politics and working together with other players. That is the portion of the game that many are interested in playing but since they don't have 40+ hours per week to play cannot compete.
Please continue to add your 'input' though. Its especially charming when you haven't done any research and are simply making things up off the top of your head.

I'm not so sure that it isn't human nature to do so.
They are going to be adding PvP servers to EQ2. The EQ2 hardcore pvp'ers (which by the way, if you look at their posts, sound like L2 pvp'ers) want to have open pvp where they can kill anyone they want to anywhere they want to.
The EQ2 community is of course horrified because they can't see this as being a viable way to play the game and also suggest that these players go find a game that fits their pvp needs.
My thought is that a game has many different aspects to it, some of which speak to a particular player and others "not so much".
If it was just "that easy" then I doubt we would be having discussions about "alternate rules servers" for L2 or for the EQ2 players, hard core pvp servers.
I imagine Art design has something to do with this but it of course could be more.
Well as I've stated before, IF NCSOFT does implement a "PTS-Style" server, I want them to give everyone who played on the normal servers before they give this "new choice" compensation for playing without a choice all these years.
Make everyone level 75 and give everyone 1 billion adena and you can have your "PTS-style" relaxed server. Lets even the playing field shall we? If you can't guarantee that, dont bring it up cause you are screwing the people who have been playing without this choice for quite some time.
also, give people on normal servers the option to server transfer to these new "relaxed" servers shall we?
Now, with this in mind...do you really think NCSOFT is going to make a "relaxed server"? It would be near suicidal.

I don't see how you'd be screwed. You're playing it on hardcore just the way you like it. I wouldn't expect to see you on an enhanced rate server because of how hardcore you are.
It would be an even playing field when it first opened. It would be a clean server and you could start it just like everyone else. I don't see why you should get special compensation (its not like playing was a job or anyone forced you or anything).
I wouldn't feel screwed even if I did start over because I played the game until I started logging in and realized it wasn't fun to compete against people that could play 60+ hours per week. If they made it easier to approach the level cap then its not as big of a deal to compete against someone that's been playing longer. There would still be heroes and noblesses that have more then just a plain 75 as well. It wouldn't take hours and hours to make up the XP lost while pvp'ing or sieging.
I can't cut deals with you but I don't think that a deal needs to be made. If you feel you need to be compensated for your time while playing then its actually a job and not a game.
Oh and your suggestions on world events, dungeons under cities and cooking are all in WoW so you can drop the whole line about how I'm trying to wow-ify this game.
I like this game for the pvp, sieging and politics. I could do without having to grind for thousands of hours to be even marginally effective and then having to grind even more to make up what I lose fighting. I want to spend more time doing clan wars and competing for castles and less time clearing rooms in the catacombs.
I want to spend more time doing clan wars and competing for castles and less time clearing rooms in the catacombs.
I agree, BUT PTS style server is NOT the awnser.
NCSoft inplements things each chronicle to make that happen. Making a new pts style server will ruin everything.

Actually a PTS style server with 5x rates would clearly solve the problem. The majority of the server would end up near or at level cap so it wouldn't be impossible to compete. People would be losing XP through combat so would need to continue grinding occasionally to make it back. I would recommend turning the material/item drop rates (not the adena rates) up more than the xp rates to keep inflation in check.
I don't really know what you're worried about ruining. This type of server wouldn't appeal to the people that play hardcore because they would top out too quick and wouldn't want to compete with the casual players that can keep up with them. They'd be far more comfortable on the hardcore servers where they can continue to dominate due to the amount of free time they have available.
It doesn't matter what new hunting areas they add to the game. It doesn't decrease the number of hours that they want the players to invest and the number of hours needed to be competitive increases continuously as the server ages. So in actuality, the game is far harder for a new person now then it was when I originally started in Open Beta. If the game was designed around level walls only at the last few levels (70-75) it would be far better for most players because then they could be competitive and stay where they are or continue to grind to get the slight advantage.
And what exactly would this be ruining?
Oh and please put words all in caps rather then explaining your point. It helps a lot.
the reasons why this would be bad is obvious. i can't believe someone is stupid enough to not realize them.
Because your average person doesn't know self-moderation and will gorge themself sick on game content and then in 2 weeks they will be bored of the game and leave.
By there being only one choice (1x), this gluttony is moderated and we are a)forced to enjoy the game at a slower pace and thus thoroughly explore game content and b) Continue paying our monthly fee. There's more but I don't want to make this too complicated.
Some of you don't understand...especially you proponents of rampant pvp, that this game allows for open pvp...but you're not intended to do nothing but pvp. This isn't counterstrike for god's sake. This game has complex player-driven politics which don't exist on the PTS, for many reasons that are inherent to the increased rates. PvP in this game is not cheap and that is why it is what it is. There's nothing more pleasant than a politically motivated murder that hits your enemy right in their XP bar. So what if people don't pvp as much as they could, because they are scared to take a loss? Well when they DO fight, its that much more exciting and poignant for the simple rarity of it.
In the end, you people don't really know what is good for you (unsubstantiated comment but I don't care) and when all is said and done you'll have a lot more fun with the slow grind to triumph, rather than the quick flurry of short-lived adrenaline.
The fact is implementing an easy way out for you softcore L2 wannabes would end up hurting those of us who enjoy the difficulty of the grind. If you don't know why, then I guess you can keep howling for a server that will never come :)

And how is that, if there are different servers for different players ? Hardcore servers and casual servers (to which the harcore players could refer as "ridiculous childish non-real-Lineage servers for n00b1es who want everything right away and dont understand the beauty of losing years and years of your life in front of a computer" as far as i'm concerned...)
If you don't know why, then I guess you can keep howling for a server that will never come :)
I think we're not stupid and we all know that there is only a very little chance that this suggestion could be taken into consideration by NCSoft, but, well, if they wanna keep on losing european & american customers, thats their game after all...

The average player doesn't have time to 'gorge themselves'. The average MMO player doesn't have that sort of free time to devote. You're thinking of the hardcore players that already play the game. The ones that this server wouldn't be designed for to begin with.
And these average players don't enjoy being forced to play at 1x rates. The majority of average players that I knew quit the game between level 30 and 50. So there goes your monthly fee argument. If you care to check the NCSoft website's press releases you'll see that they've lost about 16k players since the game first started. They're definitely not adding people to this game.
They're pushing this game as the premiere PVP game when in reality its the premiere grind game. I'm offering a solution to make reality match what they're trying to peddle.
And how do you know what will be fun for me? I'm not going to complete the slow grind even if I continued playing. Its practically impossible to make any headway and I have better things to do with my time then waste it gaining 20% over a period of hours. The grind in this game should seriously not be the selling point. If it was a viable selling point then this game would be packed with players.
The easier server wouldn't hurt you at all. It would just provide a hardcore server for the hardcore players. If you can't understand that then you'll just continue tto have to deal with falling subscription numbers and fewer people to compete with until its just you and the farmers. Enjoy.
Ive stopped playing this game for a few reasons, to cut a very long story short.
1) Sucky drop rates, ive hear it all before about boaters/ebayers and why they are as low as they are but as a casual gamer this means i will never ever get into A grade.
2) Manor System. The obvious solution to the sucky drop rates and getting A grade gear. Problem is this is buggered up as well.
3) PvP. No point me even bothering, just takes way too much time to get exp back.
4) Boaters. 'Nuff said.
But i like the idea of a PTS style casual server. I think it may turn a few heads of those that have quit because of the grind etc. Im in favour.
It is clear that you have no experience playing in a high rates L2 server. You also have no idea of the difference between x1 and x5 rates.
Lineage 2 is an open pvp game. By increasing the rates you turn it to a "quake arena" game.
I know that cause I've done it.
The hard grind is what balances the fact that it is an open pvp mmorpg.
Is far easier to get to 5x/6x now than it was back in open beta.
NCsoft implements new things to make new players develop their chars faster and at the same time expands the end content of the game.
If you want to discuss how the game should be designed around level walls for only the lvls 7x, that is another topic and has nothing to do with making a pts style server.
I won't reply to your last comment on using caps for obvious reasons.

Open beta, huh? I believe the original level cap was level 50 so it was pretty hard to get to level 60 in Open Beta.
I've been around since Open Beta and have a Level 5x character (which I stopped levelling just after C2 started). I'm pointing out that enhanced rates would appeal to far more players, put more focus on the pvp aspects and not penalize people for actually taking action against others. The problem that I see most often is that many of the gung ** pvp players either have 60+ hours per week to play or don't actually have to make the XP from pvp'ing back themselves.
An increase in rates would alleviate the amount of work necessary to compete and level out the playing field for all players because it would be easier for the average player to approach the cap and be able to participate in all aspects of the game.
This isn't a game geared towards PvP just for that reason because it makes the loss far too painful and deters conflict for the people that don't have unlimited time to play. It is admittedly very hardcore but that's why I'm suggesting a server with casual players in mind. That way the casual players could at least compete against the hardcore at some point. Yes, an increase in PVP is expected and will be the reason that people continue to have to level once they have a high level character since they'll have to make up lost xp.
Enhanced rates would solve the problems that I've stated: foster pvp, casual friendly environment and improve the grind/pvp ratio.
The grind only benefits the hardcore with unlimited free time and those that aren't actually playing their character while it levels.
Open beta, huh? I believe the original level cap was level 50 so it was pretty hard to get to level 60 in Open Beta.
Are you serious? I'll break it up for you:
BY EACH CHRONICLE IT IS EASIER TO REACH HIGH LEVELS.
I do believe you're intelligent enough to comprehend what I was saying but making such comments shows little evidence of it.
I explained you the reasons why pts style server is not the answer to yours/mine problems and will only ruin the game.
They don't make it any easier. The massive time sink still remains. An enhanced rate server would solve the issue entirely.
I would understand your point if you actually bothered to show some evidence. As it stands you continue to repeat a claim and then never provide any proof of what you're saying. I've repeatedly provided examples as to why this idea would function and who it would benefit.
Typing in CAPS is not an explanation by the way. You're just making statements and then not bothering to back them up. They don't make it any easier to level, they simply provide more areas to hunt in which does not decrease the time investment at all. It simply provides additional areas to grind.

If you fail to see the things they (ncsoft) implements in each new chronicle for new players to reach faster higher levels (beyond new hunting areas), you miss a lot of things.
Re-read the whole topic finding why a new pts style server is not any good.
Try to imagine why NCsoft has not done what you're suggesting.
And I'll repeat (risking of getting banned LOL)...
If you've had any experience of playing in a high rates server we would not have this conversation.
Ok Im just gonna respond to you one last time. I think this conversation has run its course. Here goes.
What makes you think I want to play on "hard-core" mode? I have no idea how you developed this opinion about me? I want a level playing field where everyone is the same. It would be total BS if you introduce a easy server and have everyone who didnt have a choice to play on it from the beginning start to do it ALL OVER AGAIN. What of that dont you grasp?
If there was a relaxed server that I could switch my character from Bartz to, I would do it IMMEDIATELY. Do you know why? Er, its the same exact game but on easy mode thats why? Why the hell would anyone spend grinding away on a hard-core server just to get to the same exact end play as it would be on an easy server? Only people really stubborn or dysfunctional in the head would grind away endlessly on a harder server to get to the same content your friend is playing, who join 1 year AFTER you did.
Also you comment about competing with people who have much more time than you do to play is ludicrous. By that same logic, wouldn't they also have the same amount to play on your easy server? How would you "compete" better with someone on an easy server who STILL has more time to play than you do? I really cant grasp your logic or where you deduced the path to your logic. Its the same end result, we are talking about here.
Its not about making "deals". Its about what people expect. People who have played 1 years worth of this game has spend 15x12 = $180.00 on this game already. Your gonna tell them, hey we know you paid to play but heck we are now gonna open up an easy server where some n00b who pays for only 3 months or so will get to the same EXACT place in the game as you are (or over). Er so, ... how do you really think that would make old time gamers feel exactly? I'd bet money that they'd feel pretty "screwed over".
Dungeons under the city and other suggestions I have made has been in almost EVERY MMORPG or RPG desktop game loong before WoW. Don't ever make the mistake that those elements are WoW originals. In fact WoW is just an EQ clone, or have you glossed over that little fact?
If you like the game, enjoy it and make suggestions that will enrich it more. The game mechanics are fine as it is.
I'm pointing out that enhanced rates would appeal to far more players,
That's fantastic, but this game is about keeping people hooked for a long amount of time with its intentionally slow pace, rather than catering to the ADD masses with constant pvp and easy progression. I can't understand why people who want that don't just simply go play WoW...
You might think that L2 is losing players constantly. Well they're also getting players back constantly. Players who quit for WoW and are coming back because they did it all in WoW, because L2 is the only MMO that really gave them a challenge. People come back to this game and a lot of times they don't know why, but they do and they have fun, even if they don't realize it.
...put more focus on the pvp aspects and not penalize people for actually taking action against others. The problem that I see most often is that many of the gung ** pvp players either have 60+ hours per week to play or don't actually have to make the XP from pvp'ing back themselves.
The game is fine the way it is. PvP with meaning. You actually have to think before you fight. Maybe you run. Maybe you try to settle the conflict with diplomacy. So many options to consider unlike some other games where its "OMG THERE IS THE HORDE/BLUETEAM/COUNTERTERRORISTS GET THEM!!!" every single time ad nauseum. If you want mindless twitch action, there's a lot of games out there that are perfect for you.
An increase in rates would alleviate the amount of work necessary to compete and level out the playing field for all players because it would be easier for the average player to approach the cap and be able to participate in all aspects of the game.
Yeah, because the best way to make anything meaningful and rewarding is to give it to everyone with no work involved. Maybe you don't find becoming max level and an influential force on your server to be an accomplishment worth doing. A lot of people do. You make a weak server that gives it to everyone for free, it becomes greatly cheapened. Because you aren't a person who values accomplishment and hard work, you wouldn't understand why your idea would weaken all of L2.
This isn't a game geared towards PvP just for that reason because it makes the loss far too painful and deters conflict for the people that don't have unlimited time to play.
This game is geared towards pvp. It's just not the type of game where you KILL EVERYONE YOU SEE WHO IS NOT YOUR COLOR. It may confound you that a game like this exists, a game where you must balance the pros and cons to attacking an enemy lest your decision have massive repercussions in the future.
It is admittedly very hardcore but that's why I'm suggesting a server with casual players in mind. That way the casual players could at least compete against the hardcore at some point.
Why do you deserve to compete against the hardcore players anyhow? You're saying "I want to enjoy endgame content without putting any effort into it". Well to any of us who play the game for what it is and enjoy it, that's totally absurd.
Yes, an increase in PVP is expected and will be the reason that people continue to have to level once they have a high level character since they'll have to make up lost xp.
The actual pvp in itself is not very engaging and rather simple. People would get bored of it very fast and then quit the game. Bad idea for NCSoft.
Enhanced rates would solve the problems that I've stated: foster pvp, casual friendly environment and improve the grind/pvp ratio.
More pvp = pvp with no meaning...bad. Casual friendly environment = no politics...bad. Grind/pvp ratio... stop expecting L2 to be Guild Wars. Go play Guild Wars and leave L2 alone.
It's like the difference between the short quick path, and the scenic route. Most people will take the short path because they want to reach the end and party. After they do that they will leave. There aren't many people who will take the scenic route and many would take the short path if they had the option. So add a short path and everyone will take it and party til their sick and jaded, then leave. Then the park shuts down and the people who are still enjoying the scenic route get screwed.
The grind only benefits the hardcore with unlimited free time and those that aren't actually playing their character while it levels.
I don't have unlimited free time. In fact, i can only play a couple hours a day...maybe 4 if I am lucky. I've been playing since C1 and only now have I actually hit what I consider 'high level'. I didn't just barely level a character to 5x and start crying about things being too tough, I kept going and drew all the enjoyment out of this game that I could. And despite some flaws here and there, I think this game is fantastic the way it is. So yeah, maybe I am hardcore but I don't have unlimited time and I am rewarded by experiencing content that lazy people who only desire quick shallow thrills, will never experience except briefly on the PTS. And I know along with everyone else who plays this game for what it is, that adding a wimp-server might boost subscriptions for a month, but would end up killing the game in the end.
Sorry if you still don't understand, but it may be that its simply not in your realm of comprehension. Such as the reason people like this game, like the grind, and like the lack of pvp.

Fewer Hours to reach level cap means that those with excess time would merely reach it faster but would have no other intrinsic advantage over those with less available time.
As it stands now, the casual player will never reach the level cap and will always be dominated by those with more free time.
On an accelerated rates server the majority of the playerbase could reach the end game and the actual game would be focused more on politics and skill then on levels and available time to grind.
From BlazerX 1/18/06 2:30pm
Its billed as a hard-core game. If you dont like that? tuff.
From BlazerX 1/20/06 2:43PM
We like it the way it is. Its fine.
From BlazerX 2/4/06 9:35pm
Like its been so many times, if you cant handle an ADULT game, leave ok kiddie?
Seems to me you love the hardcore server just the way it is so I still wouldn't expect to see you on an accelerated rate server. If you did switch it'd just be because you can't handle hardcore mode.
There is definitely a market for the people that want to be able to dominate others because they have more free time but the whole request is about offering an alternative for people that want to focus on the pvp and sieging aspects rather then the grind and level competition.
If you're paying to play and not enjoying the service and hoping for some payoff at the end I think you're going to end up disappointed. I paid and played the game while it was fun but I was smart enough to cancel when I realized what a chore it was. I come back just to test the new chronicles and see if they've ever bothered to offer something more appealing to the average North American player. They haven't. Its why their subscription nubmers are so low. They may eventually want to compete though so I have to put the suggestion out there just in case they're in this business to make money.
You might think that L2 is losing players constantly. Well they're also getting players back constantly.
Net loss of 22% since the start of the game actually. They still only have 70k subscribers compared to estimated 3.5m MMO players in North America according to the Yankee Group (Research Firm). That would be 2% of the market. So yeah... it is losing people and I've proven it. Head to www.ncsoft.com (http://www.ncsoft.com) and look up their latest press release for the C4 time cards and their older financial statements.
The game is fine the way it is. PvP with meaning. You actually have to think before you fight. Maybe you run. Maybe you try to settle the conflict with diplomacy. If you want mindless twitch action, there's a lot of games out there that are perfect for you.
I didn't say that I wanted a twitch shooter. I said that I don't want to waste 8 hours levelling to die a few times in PVP. At that point its not even worth the PVP and its not considered to be an interesting part of the game. Its why there are so many complaints about nothing happening and how everyone is carebears. Its because the penalty for just settling matters via pvp is too high. There should be a penalty but losing days worth of grinding is far too steep to the average player.
I value accomplishment and work when it actually achieves something. Becoming a 'force on the server' requires nothing more then time... that's it. No skill, no great mental capacity... just time. Quite a few people didn't even put the time in... they had a program do it for them.
A political system would handle this nicely even if the XP loss wasn't as significant. A larger group that could devote itself to pk'ing another smaller group continuously would be a problem even if the incidental loss was small. At the moment the penalty is so large that even attempting to fight back isn't worth it because the price of failure is too great.
Why do you deserve to compete against the hardcore players anyhow? You're saying "I want to enjoy endgame content without putting any effort into it". Well to any of us who play the game for what it is and enjoy it, that's totally absurd.
I didn't say no effort. I'm suggesting that they allow a larger population of the players to have a chance to experience it. As it stands only a very small portion of the playerbase will ever experience an olympiad, level 76+ and subclassing. They shouldn't really waste their time on it for the North American market because so few will ever experience it. Even if you assume that 10% of the current population on the game is lvl 75 (which I think is far too high) that's only 7,000 people. Those 7,000 are the ones reaping the majority of the benefits from this next patch. Everyone's subscriptions went towards paying to make the game they play better.
The actual pvp in itself is not very engaging and rather simple. People would get bored of it very fast and then quit the game. Bad idea for NCSoft.
You underestimate the power of grudges and competition. The pinnacle of the game in C4 ( the olympiad) is focused entirely on their not very engaging and simple PVP system. The entire game is designed around limited resources and causing conflict and you think that letting people experience pvp would cause them to get bored and quit?
More pvp = pvp with no meaning...bad. Casual friendly environment = no politics...bad. Grind/pvp ratio... stop expecting L2 to be Guild Wars. Go play Guild Wars and leave L2 alone.

Anyhow, that was a fun essay to write :p
gf
I'm sorry if you don't understand people that are unwilling to spend more time getting to a high level then what it would require to get a degree. I'm sorry that you value what happens in a game so highly. I'm sorry that you value in game accomplishments more then what could be accomplished in real life with a similar amount of effort.
So its not really laziness. Its just that it is far beyond my comprehension to be willing to pour that much of your life into a game that will eventually (years from now) be shut down. Even changing rates to 2x would make the game far more maneagable for a larger playerbase and wouldn't allow people to advance to the very end in a matter of months like you theorize. If you've been playing since June 2004 (when C1 came out) and you're now high level it would take a player with a similar amount of time about 9 months to accomplish the same thing on the accelerated server. That's plenty of time for the next chronicle to hit and add additional content which would benefit the majority of the player base instead of the slowly dwindling group that remains.
This thread is so long and a waiste of time to read. C3 PTS was up the hole time C3 was live. So if you want to play PTS stile server stay on the pts.
As far as a live server like this, it would never work. Most of the people that played C4 pts quit after the first week cus it got boring. I quite but came back to play during chaos week because I love events and it the only time I get to enjoy a full item drop (lvl 62 on live server and no drop since lvl 37).
Put it this way if you want a fast no grind server go google a free illegal lineage.. If NCsoft created such a server.. it defeate the whole purpose of the game.. this game is a Role playing game. its is to take time invested, the quest are there to aid you in completing the game... In fact I think they made it to easy to max out. I played in the past MMORPG that the max lvl was 1000 and there was no way to power lvl becuase it was ment to take time.
this game is about keeping people hooked for a long amount of time with its intentionally slow pace [...] Players who quit for WoW and are coming back because they did it all in WoW, because L2 is the only MMO that really gave them a challenge.
Hmm, i'm one of those people in favor of a "casual playing" server, but you make a good point here.
(see BlazerX, a good point is not when you say "stop whining you wuss", its when you give real arguments)
I think i might leave Lineage in a few weeks for WoW because i heard so much good things about it that i wanna check it out (and i'm also getting bored of the grind in Lineage), but i also think that i might come back once i've done everything there is to do in WoW, moreover if i've done everything in say 6 months...
The thing is, i dont mind the slow progression, i dont mind if it takes me more than a year to get to lv60, and another year to get to 80 or whatever the cap level will be with Chronicle X, but please for the love of god give us something interesting to do while we lv up !
I do mind that the only way of leveling is by hitting mobs over and over and over again...
Give us some interesting quests to do with xp rewards, give us the ability to build and decorate our own houses so that if one day we only have a small amount of time to play we can just go and look for a nice piece of furniture, give us, i dont know, anything besides hitting mobs !
Like Torg says, it doesnt take a lot of skills or intelligence to lv up in this game, it just takes time, so there's really nothing to be so proud of when your character hits 75...
And yes, i am aware that there are other things to do in this game, but these other things are available only to very high lv characters ! And i dont have neither the time nor the will to stay in front of my computer 10 hours a day just hitting mobs waiting for the game to become interesting at some later point...
Thats why so many people quit after lv20 (i'm soon to be one of them), and its too bad cos i know the game has a lot to offer...
See my point ? :p
u know i do have to agree with the relax server Haters... you do get bored playing the high lvls after awhile ... my dormmates all went to a server withi think it was 7 x xp or somthing like that.... and they played it for like 3 or 4 months and then got rediculous bored and quit,....
now maybe because they didnt have castle sieges and what not but bottom line they hit max lvl with +26 weps in all worthwile classes (OL, SPS, NECRO, SR, and a non nerfed dagger) and then they quit and came back... it was fun for them but in the end noone had long connections to anyone so the whole getting a group together for a good pvp war never really happens ... and non pvp classes... yeah right
what is the point of a healer if in ten minutes you can regain the xp from a death.
But it would bring new players in to the game (mo money to the machine) and it would give people a chance to see what their charachter that they will eventually get from rediculously insane ammounts of grinding, will look like.
and for those who are all hurt because their charachter on bartz or kain o whteva will be surpassed by a relax server player....... THEY WONT BE ON YOUR SERVER!!!!!1
after all you dont here Koreans all sad because they cant own american noobs (trust they want to be owning you right now) they just continue to waste an inordinant amount of time in "PC Bongs" playing there beloved game. (and dieing after 48 hours of play straigt)
so to wrap this discution up as far as im concerned Relax servers just get you more addicted to the only game i know of that can be directly attributed to 2 deaths (in RW)
make a relax server no one is going anywhere (especially if they find a good way to nerf mages or enhance everyone else, try slowing their run)
