Now that a new year is upon us, we would like to take a moment to reflect on the Lineage II events (http://www.lineage2.com/news/event.html) of 2005. Which event was your favorite? If you have a favorite, what did you enjoy about it?
I remember getting 200k for a golden medal on the second day of the event because people wanted to get higher levels of prizes so bad. 3 Days later the price had dropped down to 4k.
I also enjoyed this event because it was centered around killing just regular old mobs and getting medals quickly. An easy-going event for the casual player, while at the same time a hard-core prize event for the power-grinder.
Voted: pumpkins. Totaly forgot the "The Dark Lord Returns (Halloween Invasion) " event so i would have to say that one ;) It was alot of fun when the clan and ally started to work the raidbosses. It was fun to be able to make some nice cash even if i was quite low lvl at the time.
I hated the Pumpkin Event, it spammed the market with too many Enchant Scrolls and Soul Crystals.
Medals was by far the best, people had to fight to earn their items and the shops weren't underpriced, it gave those unable to kill Lilith a chance to get Soul Crystals for their Weapons.
I enjoyed this event the most - finding random groups of people to party with, meeting new friends, finding the mobs and waiting for everyone in the group to gather. And the mobs; when they spawned, would be a mass that you really could not pull from until the spread out - it was funny when I would find them soon after spawn and wait for others to come. Some of the first would try to pull and get a gang of mobs on them and alot of people died; of course I would pick up any droped gear and and give it back and rez them (after all of the mobs around me/attacking me were killed).
The pumpkins would be a close second.
The Medal event was fun, too.
Last night I caught myself wondering when the next event is scheduled? Any clues? I had actually though about making a post with that topic.
I'm sure that with C4 probally to arrive soon you guys are busy on that end.
I have to admit... I like the idea of the invasion event much better than anything else... however.. I wasn't able to participate and can't really give an informed opinion as to whether it was a success or not.
I had to vote for the pumpkin event as it really helped me a lot in the end. Though again... if I had my druthers I would really like to see more events like the invasion event.
I voted for the medal event simply because it was one we worked on as a clan. The pumpkin one made me richer but it was a solo event for me. I still don't give 2 craps that it made the castle owners poor.
So many nice events. The best was the pumpkin and the medals. Pumpkins won because you needed to help and work together with other random people. Great fun. It also helped me gain a nice amount of goodies which is also very nice.
I liked the mobs visisting the towns as well. I remember we were all so curious what was that great evil thing was that came ever closer. The speculations, the suspence.
I also enjoyed the deck the halls event. Loved the music, the trees and the fact that it created havoc with the farmers.
I voted Pumpkins, and The Dark Lord Returns was a close 2nd. I hate the events where only 3 ppl benefit (Arrowhead run, Valentines Ring, etc). I liked the Pumpkin event because it was passive; I didn't have to change how or what I hunted to get the drops. I ended up making a +7 and +6 Tarbar and got my lowbie dwarf's brig set to +5. I wouldn't have tried this if I had to buy all those enchants. On my main, my BO set is now +3 and my wife's BW Heavy and BO set is all +3, and it didn't cost us a dime (er...adena).
I loved the independence day event.
I liked it because the bosses spawned at the entrance of town, and everyone had a chance to have a go. Was lots and lots of fun. Only criticism I have of that event is that there should have been a cat selling raid charms.
It was better than the dark lord event imho because the mobs where closer to town.. and the dark lords minions at the end were really nasty (those aoe water attacks killed a lot of people.. it was like ABG.. cept with the players getting trained not the mobs lol)
Pumpkin event and the Medal event were also fun!

We founded an Ally with some clans we were friends with, just to be able to organize the hunts better and faster thru ally chat and get ppl. together to find and kill those raid-bosses.
More clans joined whilst the event lasted, and the ally still exists until today :)
It was really stressful in the end when there were so many spawns, I finally was glad the event was over ;)
But it was clearly the best event so far!!!
I also liked the Independance day event a lot, and Pumkins and Medals were also great!
I know Dafstin is not really dead... bring him back once more :D
I voted medals because it was 1st event I could enjoy no matter how many shift changes I has at job. Since it was long I could play quite a lot.
But seeing the results I wish I had voted my 2nd option, the X'Mas event. I like X'Mas event a lot it was something nice and hardly focused towards getting more power and money (wich always results on the same ones getting power and money and the rest trying to scrap some rests). Of course people tried to win money with it, but general spirit was of just making trees and sharing them with the others. I hould have voted that and give it at least 1 point.
I have no oppinion on pumpkins, It didn´t last enought for me to play much. I just used it to make as much money as possible knowing I will have no time to kill a decent ammount of pumpkins.
I liked the two raidboss events, I was able to get on my low lvl alts and get alot of drops with my friends and random people. It really made my year for my main and my alts, spending the next 2 weeks selling the drops I got for maximum profit gave me about 6 million, which is great for a lvl 46 with a couple of lvl 23-30 alts in mostly low-mid gear.
I was very poor, and I am a very very slow lvler. I am sure the slowest at lvling on Lionna. I have been playing since open beta and my main is a lvl 49 SR and I have a lvl 39 Destroyer alt and lvl 23 Arty alt at the end of 2005. I should get a prise for having the oldest active account with the lowest charaters.
I liked the Independence day event. The drops were awesome but risky to obtain for some of the mobs as I deleveled a few times that week. This event I felt gave the server a sense of "unity" for what that is worth. It brought many different clans together to fight a common cause. The only thing that I didn't like were the deaths / dropping gear and that the only way you got any of the drops were if you were in a high level nuker group who did the most damage.
I also enjoyed the pumpkin event. The rewards were awesome with absolutley no threat. But what made this event special is: I often play this game with my 2 year old daughter sitting in my lap. She got to the point that every time I sat down to do anything on the computer, she would jump in my lap and say "Pumpkin!!!" So I had to smash a few pumpkins. That was the end of November. She is still saying "Pumpkin!!!!" when I sit down to the computer. This will be one of the more memorable events for me because of this.
I liked the medal event... imo it is so much better to be able to pick what you want... now sure the pumpkin event was fun... both the invasion events were a blast.... the bunny and ring I dind't even see those things...
I guess I just liked the medal event... made a little adena... didn't crush the market... it was good for all lvls 1-75... It was just a really good event...
I enjoyed the events that everyone could get something out of...
Pumkin event - got to love beating up talking pumpkins
Letter even - was fun selling and trading letters and items were ok
Medal event - I liked getting to choose what reward I wanted
Dark Lord event - was fun looking for mobs and getting SS and BSPS, though having level 75s killing the level 20 raid mom "minions" and healing raid mobs to get player drops was the sucxks, and then having the raid mobs AGRO minion parked on port in spots sucked too. Nothing like porting in to find yourself dead with 25 angry event mobs standing over your corps.
The bunnies were way to rare, the rings were boring and not worth looking for, the arrowhead run was ok (Fireworks were cool, need more of them), and the trees well....the song crystals were cool.
2 top Big Boss Events:
Independence Day (Invasion) - great action, taste of unknown raid with random parties, more events like this one.
The Dark Lord Returns (Halloween Invasion) - bonus raids, mostly for allies, ++ cause great rewards
And 2 Grind Events:
Bashtal's Labor (Medals) - nice std. event
Hit the Jackpot (Pumpkins) - heh, funny
Edges the rest by more than a nose. Maybe a face with ears? :p
I liked this event because it promoted aspects of the game that smaller clans and those without clans don't normally participate in. Impromptu groups for raids was the best. :)
I WOULD have voted for the Letter event, except if you remember back in time, it was a lag infested time and it was very hard to play during it. That dampened my love for that event.
First of all I only jonied the game during medal event, so I can't speack aobut anything before that.
Medal event was the best one it was easy, everyone can participate and beenfit from it, people were abole to chose their rewards. The only minus was that it was active only on weekends. I have more computer time on weekdays, and do other things on weekends, so it was hard to acomodate both event and others stuff. I would rather liked to have lower drop rates but going all around the week event.
Pumpkin event was realy fun also for the same reasons as Medals. Also pumkin event was both solo and group thing. Bashing large pumpkins, getting all klan together on last day of the event and crush everyone's large pumpkins. The drawback of this event was the MAJOR impact on the economy, enchant prises are still much lower then they were before, as well as soul crystal prices. Me, and i bet that many more people still have stachs of armor enchant's in their WH's.
Definitely Independence day event. I haven't bought bspsc since then, and still have 10k spsc in my wh.
Plus, that's where I learned most to run raids. The drops were so good, people were really eager to go raiding like never before. Its a shame the normal raid bosses are so gimped.
I voted for the letter event. Probably just because I thought the letters were really cool to collect and trade. I was out of town for much of the pumpkin event so missed out on the goodies, but it did seem to impact the economy adversely. Only now are castle lords beginning to feel a return to normal economy. Bad economy for castle lords, means little mats from seeds for me.
My significant other loved the Christmas event, she mains a prophet, so the trees are still extremely helpful and we still have a ton of them. Only complaint is that the NPCs disappeared earlier than we had anticipated. So much for paying attention to the forums.
Anyway, seconded on a Valentines Day event or something soonish... Create a mob like the pumpkins that are flying hearts or something. That would be cool, although the raid bosses/invasions were tons of fun.
I voted for the Independence Day (Invasion). I can't believe it ranked as low as it did. The letter event was the most profitable for me. (In fact I bet if people added up how much they made selling those buff scrolls if would be for most people, except those who might have hit it big in other events.)
But the Independence Day (Invasion) was the most fun. I hope we have other events with boss style mobs attacking towns.
Both the medals and pumpkin events were great, I didnt much care for any of the others. It let us participate in the even and get good individual rewards while still hunting.
I do believe however the rewards for it where wrong and this goes for every event. NC has a long history of making this events in a way that low level chars benefit the same as high levels, however this isnt realistic or fair to high level characters. I would love to see an event where the level of the character matters, I believe we earned it.
During the Valentine's Day and the Rites of Spring Events I never was lucky enough to notice anything of these events so I can't really say anything about them except that I think not enough players were involved :)
The Letters, Medals and Pumpkin Events I think were really great. Every player had a chance to benefit of these events, soloers a bit more than people who use to play in parties most of the time. I also think it's good that there was an alternative way to get stage 11 and 12 soul crystals and smashing the pumpkins was entertaining :)
The Christmas Event gave Lineage a nice Xmas feeling but I think it lasted far too long and in the end it even was slightly annoying to me. I like the regular sound crystals much better than the christmas carols.
The two Invasion Events I loved and hated at the same time. The drops of the quest mobs were simply fantastic so our whole clan couldn't resist to let a single spawn pass. In the end we camped the spawn points and killed all the mobs we could at almost all towns. We also did some raids with our alliance or joined some random raids. For once no one doubted it was a good thing to have many nukers in a clan. Needless to say many of us earned quite a lot by this event ^^ On the other side, we just had to fight the quest mobs two or three times a day beause it was so good and it often was a challenge to be their and kill them first. And after a week or so when the event was finally over, I was indeed relieved :)
My personal favorite event was the Arrowhead Run. I always liked the idea of a race in the world of L2, I even organized a few races myself long, long ago on the first floor of Cruma Tower. Participants had to run one lap through the 4 inner rooms ^^ They were not particularly popular even though I offered what were in my opinion good prizes back then (I think 100k was the highest prize I ever offered which was about as much as I made in a whole day in a cruma party. Oh, I'm getting off-topic ><). For the Arrowhead Run I practiced the whole run twice and tried to find the perfect line to run the shortest possible way. That there were no system messages at all during the actual run confused me a bit and it would have been nice if every runner could see his/her time. I also think there should have been more rewards, like let's say for the the ten fastest runners of each class (not race), and also no party should be allowed during the race (not everyone has a lvl 46+ SwS friend, but everyone can buy WW 2 Potions ^^). All the same, I really enjoyed this event ^^

Found a chest at the heart and got like 300k XP. Some BSOE's and Brezes (This was C2 when they were practicly non-existant) and tons of enchant b scrolls (which were worth alots).
It wasn't spread all over the server and you usually only found one chest as agroup so nothing was overloaded with an unlimited amount of c grade scrolls which made owning castles useless.
Any of the events that spawned raid bosses. Even though you had to deal with drop scavengers (lost +4 Necklace of Binding), it was still a blast. I've met more people doing those Raids, both good and bad, and by far have had some of the most fun ever in this game.
The pumpkin thing was cool, but after a while it was too much. It would have been better if it didn't last so long. That way people would be in more of a frenzy to try and get as much stuff as they possibly could in the short amount of time.
Any event that can be classidfied as farmer one (medals, pumpkin) will never be a good one.
Events MUST be different and (a lil) creative to change day-2-day boring grinding.

the pumpkin event. Just out grinding getting nectors and every night would see how many I had and go wack a few pumpkins before I logged. Sure it flooded the market but with the way some people price gouge I think it was a good thing. Made D grade enchants actually affordable to people in d grade.
Main reason why I liked it though was because it was a fun thing to do each night before I logged. Open inventory see how many nectors I had, go get seeds and wack a few pumpkins to discover the treasures inside. Even the big pumpkins where fun...see someone yell need help with pumpkin and all sorts of people showed up to help...was fun times.
After that one would be the invasion one where you had the mob groups out of town that dropped all the L2 scrolls, bsoe, and brez scrolls. Again another market flood but also gain many useful items from them although to be fair the mobs should have been treated like raid bosses in that if you were over lvl they didnt drop. Alot of people started hitting the newbie towns to slaughter the mobs for all the scrolls. I did it too after I realized I could kill the mobs without getting the boss agroed outside of dion once. Sure was a lot of fun running around finding them but the higher lvl people (I was one of them) had many more advantages to hoard those drops than people that probably could have used them...although I did keep and use the items (scrolls and dss packs on alts etc) instead of profiting from the whole thing.
I loved the rabbits. I had so much fun running around looking for them. I lvl'd so much it was crasy. I only found 2 groups of bunnies that still had the chests. Great prises. But I did find 5 sets of bunnies without the chest. They were blood red so I guess whoever found them first was afraid to kill the bunnies but I could 1 shot them. SO much xp and sp it was awsome.
Second would be the labor day and holloween events. Had so much fun killing the groups of mobs and getting uber drops.
