I noticed several weeks ago when I started a new DE that there were more Dwarfs in the area then there were any DE's. One of the quests that I had taken was to kill the zombies so I could make some cash and the fields were full of bots. I didnt think to much of it as they were all running after and spoiling the bats.
Now within the last few days they have been attacking everything out there so its really hard to do that particular quest at the moment. While I had my other character on in Gludio I saw all of these same dwarfs deleveling so that they could still get the newbie buffs I suppose since most now have the little healing globe trailing behind them.
Just wanted to pass on some info to some of the other new players (such as myself), that you can still make some money and xp without having to deal with the bots if you take the orc quest. One of the guards as you exit has the quest which is unlimited.
one thing I found works with bots is this... Nowadays, the smart bot master is watching his herd. If you walk into their area and type " /GM ok?" (notice the space before /).
I have found that if you type this and they are monitored, then they will log off their bots until you leave the area. Remember, they are running a business and they DON'T want to be reported, so they will, usually, allow you to use the hunting grounds.
I went off to use the Oren manor system and found the same thing.
For some reason, it bothers me (more than bots usually bother me) that they soe to town once per hour to get buffs from the newbie guide.
The bots in the zombie area are easy to deal with. At night you can train them easily with the bats. (bats fly kinda slow but you can get a big batch of them safely).
All the ones I trained force-logged.
A couple, if you say anything near them they force-log, although that might have been monitored and they knew I was up to mischief.
If you attack them they'll sit down.
I went red and had no issues with retribution, and the other couple couple real players left me alone to work it off. (but darn there's lots of pixies!)
There was one time in Heritics were me I was lvling gwith a friend and A dwarf was training bots in the next room.
After about 3 attempts she killed off all of the bots.. About 5 minutes later an A grade SH came from nowhere and was basically Watching us while we were lvling.... Im guessing that the bot the dwarf killed belonged to him so really bot killing can help out alot but after talking our way out of trouble with that SH im sure he was ready to pk us ^_^*
I dont know how to identify a bot properly... other than say I talk to it and it does not respond. It ignores me... ... . .. .
I am new here, not only on this server, but in the game, and already with a few weeks of play, I feel like killing a bot or two... they steal my kills. Makes me angry... so what can I say. Holds me back that I am a wimp, if I was stronger, no telling what I would do :)
Probably go for it
I personally could care less about bots....the people who train them (or claim to be trainin' them) is who i hate. People use that as an excuse to train normal groups, even after they know its a normal group. Too bad theynever have the ballz to hang around and fight
I recently got back to the game after a long absence and somewhat tired of my main I decided to reroll as a DE. So in the last week I've also had the doubtful pleasure of having the company of an army of bots...
Now, I'm a casual player and I most of the friends I had before are gone so it was boring to say the least to be surrounded by all those bots. To also have to deal with their stealing my kills was worse...
I thought many times about switching to my main and going on a rampage. But I know from previous experiences that it solves very little. (it can be a good stress reliever though ;)) So I reported some of the more annoying bots and worked hard to get out of there.
I just hit 20 yesterday and I can't tell you how relieved I am to move out of that cursed place. I feel sorry for the real beginners that have to start in that area. It wasn't like that back when I began playing L2.
Try the area outside Dion, I have spent some time there in both my alts to get them from levels 20 to 25... and it seems infested with bots as well.
But yes DE village, the spiders? terrible botting ...
Oh great...you're telling me Dion is the same? And I shall have to suffer them still?
I guess there's no escaping those bots of hell... I fear I shall soon become like a zombie - doomed to shamble forever around in a circle in the hunt for adena - brainless, yet still feeling an endless hunger...
... No! What am I saying!? I absolutely refuse to suffer that terrible fate! How horrible things have become here of late...
/melodramamodeoff ;)
Thanks for the warning. At least I know what to expect. I still have my class quest to finish before I move on to Dion. After that I will have to bite the bullet.
Once you get to gludin or dion there's real people around, nothing like the starter town bot-scene.
I'd suggest AC over the Dion area for getting up to 25, as you can do Leopold's quest to qualify for hunt of the black lion at lvl 25 in Dion which can add up to good money as you milk it well into your 30s. The only downside to AC is you have to watch for lowbie-PKs.
The best use of the bots around the starter town is to PK one, then go start your sin eater quest. IMO, no player is worth anything if they have over 5 PKs and can drop everything they own when red if they die.
If you play in a fashion where you don't have oppurtunities to go red when you are in higher levels then . . . well, there's lots of players that play that way - most of those types of players will never use a castle scroll of escape.
So go kill a bot when you feel like it, work off the karma or let someone kill you (xp is too easy to get at low levels to worry about) and then see the black judge and do the sin eater quest. When you get 4 PKs turn it in. Or, you can be like several people that I know of and go red with 5+ PKs and give your equipment to someone that kills you.
But please do take advantage of the excessive bots :)
You know saying that people who dont reply are bots is unfair.
I cant even count the number of times people have passed by me and asked me for buffs. I just tend to ignore them and do what I was doing. If your in my group I'll buff you but I aint gonna sit down for 10 mins because you need buffs lol. Anyway it became a habit i usualy reply if people have something good to say.
But if you msg me saying. Buffz plzx or Are you a bot? I'll simply ignore you lol.
There's no advantage to getting your first pks early in your career.
There is advantage in having 0-3 PKs whenever you go red, so you don't suffer increased drops on death. The sin-eater quest will remove PKs from your count, to make it like you never killed those people. It's not cheap and it costs you exp to run a sin-eater.
Thanks for the sticky thread Coth.
Simple explanation. I dont see a clear benefit of killing bots (going red) early on though... from that thread. Maybe Wetzel meant get PvP practice.

Believe me, it is easier to get your initial PK out of the way at lower levels. Then do the sin eater quest around level 38 but before you reach level 40 (there is a different set of mobs to kill after you reach level 40).
If you have desires to protect yourself or desires to join a clan that does raid bosses or sieges you will have to not be afraid of going red. Sieges does intell killing your enemies and sometimes outside of the siege zone and on days that there is not a siege. If your clan is serious about doig Raid Bosses - well, only one clan/alliance can do a Raid Boss becuase it does take hours and sometimes days on some bosses to respawn; and if you are in the middle of doing a Raid Boss and an enemy clan or a farmer clan shows up. Well then, someone is gonna have to move along - who will it be? It's not first come first served like our civilized society - in game it's who's alive at the end wins.
Granted, there are clans out there that don't want to rock the boat.
Gonna cut and paste one player's view on one of those clans from a comment that the player made on another board:
PvP: When you see an enemy, you have a few options:
You can immediately run away before they have the chance of seeing you. This works sometimes, but not always.
You can start to give out buffs and recs and hope and prey they do not become agitated with your presence and kill you. Once more, this works sometimes, but not always.
You can also allow the entire group to stay behind you, and send one person unaccompanied to flag on the enemy. If they flag back, do not send for back up, just allow the person to die. If you do not allow the person to die, you have no rights to talk [crap] after they die. One must follow the rules, you know. It completely ruins the whole experience if your BS reasons for getting owned are unfounded. The next step is to send one unaccompanied healer in to rez the person. This strategy works best in a clan war. Send the lone healer out to get the dead while they are still surrounded by the enemy. This adds a level to your available [crap] talk and is generally a very widely used PvP tactic.
Yeah, there really are people that play the game like that - makes me wanna puke ;) And if you do want to play like that then you won't need the sin eater, heh, I really don't know what people that play like that need but it's definetly not a sin eater.
Simply stated: everything you do at higher levels that you could have done at lower levels takes longer to do and cost more to do it.
Or you could do what other's have done (acutal quote from yet another board - the acutal charater names have been changed) :
PlayerA killed PlayerB while red. PlayerB dropped his +4 DC robe (85 - 90 mil), +3 DC Boots (12 - 15 mil) and +3 maj. ring (7 mil?)
Looks like PlayerB had more than 5 PKs but wanted to play in a rough croud and found it a henderance to level a sin eater before he started going red - there really are high level players that brag about 30+ PKs (not on a charater that is perma red, but on their main charater they play all of the time) sill on their charater and that is one of the reasons that you will hear people claim that their best drops don't come from mobs, their best drops come from players.
It just depends how you want to play. I've stood up for myself when knowing it was going to result in my charater getting a free trip to the nearest village or clan hall and I've come across those same players and have given them a free trip as well - and I've never been worried about what happens when I go red - never.
Yeah, use those worthless bots for something good.

No problem, I just didn't want you to get a nasty surprise. As I said earlier, my experience is that bot killing solves very little. And as for pvp practice, you gain very little of that by killing bots. They're easy to kill and don't behave at all like real players. I suppose you might get some practice being red though.
On topic, I've moved up to 22 now by hunting around dion. There are some bots around but nothing like the starter areas :)

Coth is right on target again, PvPing bots and killing them to try to make them leave the game will not work.
For PvP pratice check out the different arenas they are fun for a little while.

Coth speaks with wisdom beyond his levels. Being well read in this game will save you lots of headaches - Coth probally doesn't have any headaches :p
In this server of bots and griefers, No one can be too careful. PKing bots and reporting only lead to the botters getting new accounts. As for tell thing them apart from the real players, I use two methods, One there names are usualy Incoherent Such as "ssgifhr7" second they don't ever use soulshot. Now since they developed force logging it been harder to get rid of them (*sighs* "the glory days of unwatched bots"). I found it's best to just kill faster than they do. Or debuff them with Icebolts and windshackle. If your gonna PK kill the healer first then debuff the bots( that is when they are in a bot group.) Remember bots don't hit back and players do. If you grief someone and they kill you then you got what you deserved. I personally love to slow down some greifer running a train on real people, can't wait to get LS and put them dead in their tracks. Here's some money making tips for free. If you have a dwarf use spoil on bot kills you can still sweep them. Stun/root a trainer and pick up his drops. Train bot parties after their healer is down. In no time you'll be able to afford you level C=grade items.
Here is my take on the situation like it or not. I strongly believe bots have ruined and continue to ruin this game. The worst part about it is NC Soft does not take a strong enough stance. It was said in an earlier reply that these people are running businesses. This is very true. I know that, you know that and NC Soft knows that.
Listen, bot parties are easy to spot visually. Just imagine what an administrator can see. What more do you need to ban an account? Here's an idea...Have you ever partied with anyone who gave you buffs every 20 minutes with an accuracy of a few milliseconds. If so let me know your name, you got a friend for life. NC Soft can track the time, damage and the origin of a hit, why can't they do this?
Instead, it takes them 4 days to 2 weeks to "investigate". By then, the botter has paid for the account they can now afford to get banned, and is turning a profit on a dishonest practice.
I feel cheated on, and the only reasoning I can come up with is money talks. NC makes $30 off of me per month as I have 2 accounts I play manually (I have an MPEG in case someone has any funny ideas =/). But, botters are giving NC no less then $120 per month, and that is a small time operation. My point is at this, point too many real players have been chased away to support the game without them. I'd imagine the powers that be are very careful in how fast the bots are banned.
So, how do you keep pace with the pack (Botters showing off cool gear).... you guessed it, buy adena. However, there is a flaw in that logic. If you buy adena, you will support the botting in the game. And the last step in the equation, botting will continue and botters will control the market. Botters will then raise the prices and you will.... BUY MORE ADENA!!!! LOL. Botters have stumbled with the release of all the new chronicles, and now I cant even sell my +5 c grade duels below "normal market price". Maybe they werent meant to be much less?
A lot of this is speculation of course but I have had since closed beta to think about it. I have always been an honest player, and I've always have been bitter about anyone using a game genie. I have done my part to keep lineage clean, I'm asking you to do ours, and I'm still waiting for NC to do theirs right.
I think I'm going to get banned for this
