Just wanted to take a moment to say 'Hello World'. I will be starting anew here on Devianne. I don't know anyone on this server so I am hoping to make some friends here and have a nice time.

My advice would be to pick a character you are gonna stick it out with and have fun with. Get use to the mechanics of the game, and then most of all have fun and make new friends.
you choosed a server full of passion, drama, excitement, fear and fame ... congrats :P
Now its up to you to make your way through the long hard path up to an honorable and respected fighter or magic user, a mastercrafter or one who cures and cares. Whatever you take it will be important to choose what you like. Dont listen to people telling you what to pick best. Simply at start try some characters, find some people who play those you choosed and chat. This will help you to make the right decision. Imagine that your choice might be valid for a very long time ... and if you find out, you made a wrong choice after 1/2 year, thats a pity. Depending on what you want - being in the front row or prefering range attack, want to PvP or more to support, interested in making things or assisting groups - its all open now. If you state a bit more what you prefer we might be able to give some tipps here.
Some simple tipps are :
- Use the newbie guide in anyway, especially its awesome starter buffs - they wil help very much
- Make quests to gain money and experience about landscape and monsters - some of them are repeatable and will ensure youre not too broke (main problem in LI2 ... money)
- Be aware when you see people with red names, they are not all but mostly playerkillers, avoid them if you can. If they catch you, dont take it too hard. There is not much you can do then run at starting levels.
- always try to improve your weapons first before you think about better equipment, this goes mostly also for your skills.
- Seek out people to group (will be hard in starter areas), its more fun and more safe, also making friends is very important here. Use shout if you like to find ppl that want to group too.
- dont fight too hard monsters (watch the color scala), mostly fightinmg equal or a tad below is faster and more safe, except you seek the thrill of winning with 5 HP left and regaining HP and Mana for 1 hour ^^)
- if possible gather basic materials like bones, suede, stem aso - do not sell them to the NPC vendors if youre not broke. Sell them in larger towns later and gain lots of money more, e.g. animal bones sell in Giran for around 1.000 - 1.200 adena a piece :P
- when you can afford it, use blessings of the gods (SS, SpS) to raise your attack power - but this is quit expensive. So if youe not in a hurry .. take your time and save money.
- Finally, dont press yourself too fast or accept powerleveling. Finding your way within your own limits wil help later to know your charbest - and its limits. Enjoy raising slowly .. this is a long grind game. When you want to be a good player later use the time to test out all about your char. Many are gimped as they raised too fast and never tried all whats possible.
