-since c4 is really close
-since there are so many new players out there
-since a lot of people from what i hear in my ventrilo sick of their current server
and since i mailed ncsoft about a possibilty of a new server
ncsoft told me to post it on the forum so the community could give their opinion
Im wondering how many people would like a new server for l2? and plz post your opinions
no to new searvers. no to relaxed searvers. yes to searver merge. Searvers should have lots and lots of players... as of right now bartz has to few players imo.

Why simply add another regular server?
I don't see how this would improve anything and it would be the same game on the new servers. Most of the people that migrate from their old server to the new server will be the underdogs of the old servers. This weakens the opposition on the old servers and makes the current ruling parties even more likely to continue dominating their respective servers.
If they're going to add a new server I would suggest that it not be with the same rules as what is already available otherwise they'd just be watering down the population on the existing servers.
Unless there is an alternate rules server, either relaxed or non pk, there really is no reason to have a new server, especially that the servers won't as "full" because of the new 64 bit changes in C4 servers.
As far as having an alternate rules server of one sort of another, I would be for it as there are many different types of players who either don't have the time to be competitive with their more "full time/hardcore bretherin" or that they love many aspects of the game but are not interested the hardcore pvp aspect.

lol good one :P
i am not fo4r a new server i think tyheay showuld re designe it an set it up so each server is a world and you log in to what ever one you like would increase population and would lead to some intresting new politicks
Sounds as you want to keep the noobs on the old servers were they obviously have no chance in hell to win the game either they started way late or whatever but its called griefing!!!
I think its up to NCSoft to determine if they will give us new servers or not as they have the data to confirm if there is many new players that would benifit from it.
To the OP as you basically just wanted to know if we would like one or not i say sure i started late a fresh start is more then welcome.

I'm talking about the overall health of all of the servers.
When Teon was introduced there was a large migration of people from other servers. The people that seemed to be leaving to restart on Teon were from the underdog groups of the server that I was playing on. This made the existing servers even harder.
You're right. This decision is totally up to NCSoft. I just wouldn't cheer this decision if it happened because I know it would simply make it worse for people that aren't in power that decide to stick with their old server.
The start time has nothing to do with how far you can advance in the game really. I started back in Open Beta and my top character is on the upper end of 50. It used to be much harder to level at low levels due to lack of good hunting spots and the gear was still not all implented in the game. At this point I've been outlevelled by people that started months ago at this point.
If the point is to win then perhaps they need to open a few hundred new servers that way everyone has an opportunity.

Are you totally out of touch with reality? Bartz has to few players? Dude...*shakes head*
i don't think a new server is needed but i do think levelling should be a lot easier. i only get to play a few hours per week and although i can beat 95% of the players my level in pvp, i don't stand a chance against players that are 11+ levels higher than me. it's a great game but there are other things that are more important like girls, drugs and work that will keep me from ever seeing level 70 unless levelling is made easier. it kind of sucks to lose to someone because they have no life instead of because they are more skilled.
another euro server would be nice(not that i would join it but ya know)
I agree, Teon is pretty packed during peek hours. But what would really be great is if Europeans could transfer their existing characters to this new one.
It would really be great to see a new normal EURO server, because teon has been packed these last couple of months. Also because it would be great for a lot of new players out there but also for a lot of players who have been here from the start to all start from skratch.
No to server merging. just to name a problem: what will happen with 2 aden castle holders. You chose your server as soon as you started on it this shouldnt be changed.
Character transfers to a new server would really take away the concept of a "new" server since ncsoft than might aswell increase the max server population for each server instead of starting a new server, a new server in my book is mostly for the new people to the game and the people that want to start from scratch.
If there would be a new EURO server most USA servers shouldnt have any problem with losing server population unless some people out there dont care about siege times etc. As for the teon population im pretty sure teon could loose some people to the new server since teon is allways full
I wasn't in L2 in Closed Beta, but when I rolled my first char ever in L2 (think it was Apr. 10th or so in OB), it was on the last server... Erica. I can only imagine the first few days of OB when there was only Bartz.
Need a new server for Europe. Even after the hardware upgrades and the player cap raised with C4, Bartz and Teon are still Full.
Not relaxed. Relaxed servers are for carebears :)
hrm when I mean normal I mean not relaxed server, I wasn't referring to the server status. Normal is good and Full is better. Its like that now so a new server would be nice.
Hey, so after the upgrades and player caps raised i had my first login problem on Teon today. Ok it may of been fairly light but that still shows what lvl the server population is at. Btw it took me 2 attempts to get in.
I vote yes on a new server, maybe even a non-pvp server like Korea has (not sure I like the new clan war system) but at least a new server. This would allow new players (and there seem to be quite a few) to start on an even playing field.
I am still seeing several servers showing "full" on the server select screen even after the "server upgrades" with C4  so I'm sure there are many who would move to a new server.
Would also be a good time for a whole new marketing push for C4 as well, to let new players know a new server is there so they dont have to compete with a lot of high level characters :D
^^ Why do you say "if" enough players, its obvious that we already have more then enough players the server is still full.
I think it was nice of Teon to give us a few days off while they tested the new 64bit servers im sure many had hope the server would be better in C-4 but its in the same shape and now its time deal with the problem.
One easy way to solve this problem is to change the shop mechanism.
Server capacity is based on the number of active connections and not based on subscription count. They have more subscribers now then when they did back in prelude (with only 8 servers then and none of those were consistently full at the time).
They either need to start looking for the accounts which never disconnect and investigate how they're managing to do that ooooor change the shop mechanism so that people don't have to be connected to sell/buy things. This should lower the number of connections to the server or at least make sure that all the connections to the server are actually active and not just afk shops.
I also wrote to support. I have posted my views on the forums.
Even just a little message saying 'we have looked at your posted'
would be nice.
I still think we should have a new one for europe.
It seems kind of silly for them not to expand just when it's needed.
At peak times, Teon becomes the laggiest server ever and it seems to cause lots of client crashes at these times. It's fine early morning when not so many are in the server. Mind you it still says FULL even early in the morning but you can see a difference.
New server please or those of us who recently re-enabled might just get a little to fed up and cancel out of frustration.
We dont need 1 new server we need 10! Every other territory has like 30 servers except US+EUROPE have 8?! In two years weve seen only one new server. WoW bring new servers online every other WEEK!

I don't believe we need a new server for population reasons.
The only valid reason currently supporting the need for a new server is that of increased European demand and only one server to cater for it.
We currently have a playerbase which is easily over 11% European. However, there is only around 11% of the total server capacity dedicated towards that market. I wont go into the fact of hardware location being undesirable either.
Asking for a new server because the one you play on is full is not going to improve the game in my opinion.
There are frequent complaints about distribution of players and how everywhere seems "empty". Many players complain about everyone being spread out and no conflict can happen when you can't find your enemy.
The reason that the most in demand server (Teon) is so full is not just down to real people. More people means more demand for the secondary market and that means more farmers trying to take advantage of it.
I would rather see NCSoft invest all the money they might put on a new server into increasing their GM staff or capabilities to deal with undesirable players. If these undesirables were being removed more efficiently and in greater number we would have more room for the servers to naturally fill up.
Right now I think NC has done some great things with the launch of Chronicle 4. We just need them to focus on the single largest problem in the entire game and indeed the entire world of MMOG's as a whole.
I know you cannot get rid of all the farmers and I know they will endlessly come back as long as there is money to be made, but you guys must invest more in the prevention of the two major cheat programs which rip your client to pieces.
I am well aware that stopping these two programs is extremely difficult given that they probably have more financial backing per staff member than NCSoft currently does. But none the less, a solution must be found.
Before anyone says it's a money issue and NCSoft wants all these farmers running around, think about what you are saying please. They get more money from banning them and the endless repurchase of new CDKeys/Gametime cards than they do from leaving them subscribed. It is in NCSoft's financial interest to remove them rather than leave them.
I don't mean to drag this off topic though. :P
I believe that throwing up a new server to avoid Full server issue's and to accomodate new players is not the best decision for the game as a whole.
But, I would like to see more servers for the right reasons.
To bring new servers online will cost them money. This is just my hunch but with there current Server/Staff-to-subscriber ratio they are finally making a profit. This in turn makes Richard Garret happy, and RustNC is under pressure to keep it that way. If you add more servers the Server/Staff-to-subscriber goes into the red costing them money until they build it back up.
What are a few lost customers, to losing hundreds if not thousands of dollars on servers/staff when there is no guaranty they can increase subscription levels to be profitable again?
Now this is a far fetched opinion, and does not portray NCSOFT in a good light, but I can understand from a business stand point. They are a corporation, and they are here to make money for themselves and their shareholders. Nothing is wrong with it, and its how we all put food on our table.
It just sucks that they cant add servers as easily as we think it is. I am sure it takes a great amount of planning and money to pull it off. I would love to see another euro server, and a relaxed server, and a Non-PvP server, but I dont think it will happen.
Sorry if I offended anyone at NCsoft, its just how I see it.

I think the crux of my statement was "if they stay".
However.... there are a few things going on here.
Some of the servers were full before C4. NC said that they would be implementing new 64 bit servers and that should take care of the load.
Now we see that some of the previously full servers are still full.
So that means either the 64 bit servers did not solve the issue or that there was a sudden influx of players that are causing the "full status".
Now, if they stay then that is a problem (good problem but still a problem) because if players can't log in they get angry.
Of course... there is an issue that people aren't mentioning.
Ok.. so let's say that it seems Teon has a problem... maybe we need to add a new European server.
But no one is making the leap to "then what?". NC has never made any mention of server transfers. So here we have a full server of Angry Europeans... suddenly a new European server opens up... and no transfers. Are you going to leave your lvl 60+/70+ etc characters to go to the new server? So you stay.
So making a new Euro server without transfers might not make sense.
How many Teon players would leave Teon without transfers to go to a new server? Some will of course... but I wonder if the majority would?
It seems to me you're attributing the problem to the wrong number.
Subscription numbers are not up (they even just admitted to banning about 23% of their subscriber base).
Subscription numbers do not directly correlate with server usage. Some subscriptions sit idle while other subsriptions are being used constantly. They have fewer subscribers now then they did when they launched the game with 8 servers (instead of 9) and the servers weren't running on 64-bit technology.
This means that the problem boils down to account usage and not subscriptions. They're not adding that many new people to justify a new server and if they added a new server it would primarily cannibalize the userbase from an existing server since there isn't a huge influx of players to support it. This happened when they opened Teon, there was a migration of people from the other servers.
They need to implement systems that reward people for being offline (or at least don't require that they be online like the current shop system).
How do they do this?
Auction Houses OR Offline Shop Mode
Rest XP for the time that people aren't connected so they get a bonus for being offline or possibly give people a passive bonus when they're not connected for 24+ hours that temporarily raises their drop rates instead.
The problem is that people are rewarded (or at the very least not penalized) for staying online 24/7.

Well.. no, I'm not.
To put it another way.. regardless of subscription numbers (because you are correct... subscription numbers don't mean that they are being used) "x" amount of players have decided to come and play L2 because of C4. I don't know how many but I have met quite a few so I assume that there could be wrong.
So... either the servers are full because the 64 bit architecture did squat or it is because that, due to C4, more people are on trying the game out. (there has to be a real reason why we are seeing "full" and "normal" across the board - subscriptions might have been down but maybe there will be a subscritpion spike during the C4 launch).
If it is the case where there are more players and they are going to stay (and not realize that L2 is the same game in many ways as it was when it came out) then a new European server might be warranted. (unless of course it is the illicit players that should not be named gearing up for those who want to have S grade "now").
However... regardless of whether or not there are more European players... let's say there are... opening up a new Eureopean server might not get the server migration that is hoped.
Sure.. there was server migration when Teon opened up but that can be construed as European players tired of sieging at 3 in the mornging on Sunday night.
They normally don't plan on every subscriber using their account constantly. Just because people are using their accounts more then expected they're not going to open up a new server because an increase in account usage does not equal an increase in revenues to pay for the new hardware/upkeep.
So again... its not subscriptions, I've provided plenty of data from NCSoft to show that its not subscriptions. Their subscriber numbers are down from when the game originally launched and Rust just talked about banning a huge section of the subscriber base.
So if you're mad at the servers being full... blame the accounts that are online 24/7.
This is just my hunch but with there current Server/Staff-to-subscriber ratio they are finally making a profit.
Ok, that one I sincerely doubt. They are not employing developers or large QA teams, but they are getting a subscription income that is the same as other MMORPGs.
I would agree with you if NCSoft has set an X amount of money as profit margin, and L2 isn't allowed to go below that, because it funds other projects.
Ok, I see what you are saying... you are saying that it is just the already in place subscriptions actually being used.
So if you're mad at the servers being full... blame the accounts that are online 24/7.
Well.. there is always that.
Still.. I bet there will be a subscription surge for this time period. Not sure how much but it seems that there are many new players and a lot of interest being generated on other sites. Maybe not enough to cause servers to be full but I would be very curious and not surprised if NC reported a slight increase in subscriptions. We'll have to see.
I know you say they are down but that is of the last quarterly report correct?
True, the numbers that I'm quoting are based off a December press release from NCSoft concerning their time cards.
So I concede that there might be a boost at the moment but the full server problem was occuring in C3 as well so I'm still of the opinion that its due to account usage moreso then an actual increase in users.
They also talked about how many accounts they've banned which would be a significant portion of their userbase (23% when based on their 70k subscribers number from December).
Sorry if I came off the wrong way... I just think that the systems that they've put into place that reward (or at least don't punish) 24/7 usage give rise to these sorts of problems. That and the accounts with players that never sleep and never stay logged off for more then a few seconds after a reboot....

Yeah.. that will be an interesting report.

Not at all.. I just misunderstood... wouldn't be the first time :p
While we don't have any plans for a new server at this time, we appreciate all feedback on this topic.
Hundreds of threads have been posted about it...
What more do you need to think about it ?
I think it speaks more to the fact that NC wanted to create the game we are playing today. However... due to factors in their home country of Korea, they had to create alternate servers.
However... when push comes to shove, this is the product they want to market.
Perhaps they feel that any sort of alternate rules servers will dilute the brand or just represent the game in a way that they do not desire. (even though I believe there would be a market for it).
Just remember that 90% of those 21,000 accounts are likely farmers who immediately bought a new copy of the game and some more gametime and are all back.
The rest of that lot are just player cheats, likely to be mostly bot users. Most of these tend to come back to the game, after all it takes them no time at all to create a new gang of 9 70+ chars.
So I doubt the subscriber base has gone down much as a result of the bans.
I mean 21,000 accounts gone in the last few months, have you noticed a decline in numbers, or a decline in farmers? I haven't.
Quite the opposite infact, new player clans and alliances are springing up from what I can see and farmers are declining or moving to places I can't see them.
that's not the deal... lot of us just want a new server but for different reasons... for bots, for login time, to see new players, to start a new char w/o being ridiculous, etc...
An honest question, Europe is a big place. Where would you locate the server?
Wouldn't anywhere in Europe be better then Texas?
I mean before you try to start a war over where to place the server its best to acknowledge that anywhere in Europe (with a solid uplink to the internet) is preferable to the US as far as ping is concerned.

I was not trying to start a war. I was asking an honest question. And yes, any place in Europe would be better.
Id say Brighton England. Last time i checked thats where the ncsoft GMs go to work. not 100% though. OR turn teon into East Europe. Make the new one a combination of west europe and east north america.
