Basically one of our clan members got scammed out of his armor. We have screenshots and records of the conversations..This scammer tried to scam three of us at the same time. Unfortuantly we have lost the armor but we have the names that were used..Can they be linked to an account that can be banned?
If NC would start interfering in crimes committed inside the matrix - where would it end?
Scamming is part of the real world and it is part of this game. Use voice communication, read forums and double check any kind of trade you do - and you are immune to such evil actions.
I appreciate NCs stance in that matter because it is the only way to enjoy an authentic world, full of drama and politics - created by players, not by GMs.
I have many members that have been scammed, "legit" scamms (if their is such a thing) are legal.
The scams that involve fraud are against EULA. You aren't allowed to pretend you are someone else, or name a char like "BearDeadClam" to scam. Outside of that anything goes.
From the Rules of Conduct:
"While playing Lineage II, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players."
From the EULA:
"You agree not to use the service to:...(ii) impersonate any person or entity, including, but not limited to, an NC Interactive or its affiliates employee, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity"
So, from the above two items, when one player scams another player, that player is breaking the Rules of Conduct or the EULA or both.
However, about a month ago, whenever one logged into the game, a message appeared in the chat screen that basically said that one player should not give any of his/her equipment to another player unless he/she is willing to lose that piece of equipment forever.
So, to answer your question: Yes, scammers CAN be prosecuted. SHOULD or WILL they be prosecuted? That's up to NCsoft. However, the person (people) who was scammed most likely will not get his/her equipment back.

this refers to account info only... I can't e-mail ncsoft and say that I'm you and ask for your info. It has NOTHING to do with ingame behavior.
my suggestion in a situation like this...really nothing ..scamming is a unfortunate ploy that pathetic people use to gain gear fact is they can't take the time and effort to play the game right..i guess in a since that is playin the game right..

You're playing Lineage 2, this is something that you will have to get used to. I've seen it happen to a guy in the same party as myself and had it attempted on me. And with anything regrading Lineage 2 - DON'T expect any help regarding anything about the game from NCSoft. The scammers pay their money just like you do.
yah, sad to say there is someone runnin around with my own name nad my bros name tryin to scam my other members.....
key is to inform your members, personally, in my clan my and my bros have a policy, and that is we will never ask for your gear no matter what... when trading with people confirm on ventrillo, or teamspeak which ever you use...
never trade with someone unless you know em IRL>.or are willng to risk loosing that item, always ALWAY's hold collateral.
If that ice happened to be in a large hole in the sidewalk and you break somthing, yes sue them for your medical bills(Sue for mental anguish and yer a moron, just get your bills paid).
But no, NCSoft wont do anything about it, they've stated as much. Our clan on Lionna gets PMs every other week from a new name scam, but they always use the same alt name. We have been targetted, harassed, and defrauded. Thanks for the protection NCSoft.
Scamming is part of the experiance, wise up and deal with it. The bottom line is dont trade an item unless you get given equal collateral. I have no sympothy for victims of scams. This is a player based game, be street smart and enjoy the interactive experiance.
I've never once fallen for it. If you dont ask me for gear in Ventrilo, you aint getting it. One of my clanmates is eternally hopped up on pain killers because of a work accident involving a forklift and a broken back, so naturally he got taken by this(thank god all they got was a War Axe, and we made him a new AOBA 1 day later). He's a fun guy, too bad his brain is pretty muddled at times, hehe.
I wouldnt care about it, except it has become a nightly occurance. We come back to town after a night in ToI, and atleast 3 people get PM'd.
