[Main]

Okay since the most fun addon in C4 is fishing, I wrote a guide to it. If you have more
info, or you find an error, please contact me and I'll fix it/add it.
Contact me, use: mugimugi (at) bredband (dot) net

First off, to start fishing you need to locate the Fishermen's Guild members, so far I've noticed
that they are all located in harbors and magic shops in towns.

0.1: 2006/01/11 The start of this guide.

-------------
[Fishing Rod]
-------------
First off you need a fishing rod, They vary in grade and price ^^ also they need different
level of fishing shots. The difference between them is apparently that the amount of damage
you deal to the fish.

Prices
Baby Duck Rod (NG): 36k
Albatross Rod (D): 120k
Pelican Rod (C): 480k
Kingfisher Rod (B): 1.44m
Cygnus Pole (A): 4.8m
Triton Pole (S): 12m

-----------
[The Lures]
-----------
Now about the lures, there are three different colors, Yellow, Green, Purple. All three
of them have three different grades, Low, Medium, High. The difference between grades is that the
higher grade has a slightly higher chance to pull up better fish, also the fish bite much
faster.
There are also three beginner lures. But they are a bit special -- they will show you which skill
to use (see [How to fish]) when you fish with them. The downside is that they seem to only pull up a
low type of fish. However, they are awesome to use if you're fishing for the first type; buy 20 or so
of 'em and try it. All fishing rods use the same lures, so at higher levels it will be cheaper
in the end to fish.

Prices:
Green Colored Lure - For Beginners: 60a
Purple Colored Lure - For Beginners: 84a
Yellow Colored Lure - For Beginners: 72a
Green Colored Lure - Low Grade: 120a
Green Colored Lure - Medium Grade: 144a
Green Colored Lure - High Grade: 180a
Purple Colored Lure - Low Grade: 180a
Purple Colored Lure - Medium Grade: 216a
Purple Colored Lure - High Grade: 240a
Yellow Colored Lure - Low Grade: 144a
Yellow Colored Lure - Medium Grade: 180a
Yellow Colored Lure - High Grade: 216a

Lure Effects:

The lures are supposed to help you catch a particular type (ugly, nimble, or fat) of fish.
According to their descriptions, green is supposed to catch more nimble, yellow more ugly, and
purple more fat. However, my own tests do not show this.

After trying 30 of each type of lure, I had the following successful fish catches:

Green: 54% Ugly, 31% Nimble, 15% Fat
Yellow: 41% Ugly, 9% Nimble, 50% Fat
Purple: 28% Ugly, 32% Nimble, 40% Fat

---------------
[Fishing Shots]
---------------
This is basically the same as soulshot, it doubles the damage given to the fish.
Be warned, if you do the wrong move to catch the fish (see [How to fish]), the fishing shot
doubles the healing given to the fish. I dont recommend spamming these as they should just
be used for hard-to-catch fish. You can't autospam them either. In any event if you got a
NG fishing rod you also need NG shots :). To obtain shots you need to do the quest
described at the bottom of this document ([Quest: Quest for Fishing Shot]).

--------
[Skills]
--------
You also need skills to fish, they don't require SP (Luckily) but they cost money. You buy them
from the fishing guide NPC. Select "Please teach me to fish." in the menu and you get to
the skills.

To fish you need the 4 skills -- Fishing, Pumping, Reeling, and Fishing Expertise.

Fishing is an active skill, and level 1 is the only level. The other three have many levels.

FISHING EXPERTISE
-----------------

Fishing Expertise determines the color of the fish and level of monsters that you fish up.

Expertise Fish
-------------------------
Level 1-3: Green fish (Small, normal, Big)
Level 4-6: Jade fish (Small, normal, Big)
Level 7-9: Blue fish (Small, normal, Big)
Level 10-12: Yellow fish (Small, normal, Big)
Level 13-15: Orange fish (Small, normal, Big)
Level 16-18: Purple fish (Small, normal, Big)
Level 19-21: Red fish (Small, normal, Big)
Level 22-24: White fish (Small, normal, Big)
Level 25-27: Black Fish (Small, normal, Big)

So, for example, a Small Jade Ugly Fish is level 4 (as is a Small Jade Nimble fish, Small Jade
Fat fish, etc)
In general, about 50% of the fish that you catch will be at the level of your expertise, about
45% will be one level below, and about 5% will be one level above. Rarely you may catch fish
that are 2 levels above or below.

PUMPING AND REELING
-------------------

Higher levels of Pumping and Reeling deal more damage to the fish each time you use the skill,
also the recharge timer seems to be a tiny bit faster for each level too.
Another thing to remember is never to have the Pumping and Reeling skill more than two levels
above Fishing expertise -- they get a 5% penalty (5% less damage dealt) per each level.

COST
----

This is a table of how much adena it costs to level Fishing Expertise, Pumping, and Reeling.
For example, leveling Fishing Expertise from 4 to 5 requires 500a. The third column is the
total cost to reach that level -- for example, to go from Pumping level 0 to Pumping level 8
would require 6,060a.

Level Cost Total cost
---------------------------------
1 10a 10a
2 50a 60a
3 200a 260a
4 300a 560a
5 500a 1,060a

-------------
[How to fish]
-------------
It's quite easy to catch a fish, if you're a beginner I recommend that you use the beginner
lures as it will show an icon of the skill you need to use, it's quite fast to learn how to fish
thoght.

You need to find a section of deep water (deep water would be any water that shows a breath meter
when you swim in it). You'll need the following on your hotbar: Fishing, Pumping, and Reeling.
If you did the fishing shot quest, you'll want them on your hotbar as well. You probably also want
to hotkey your main weapon and some damage dealing skills for when you fish up a monster.

Stand on the shoreline and face the deep water. Then you use the 'Fishing' Skill and your
character will start to fish. You'll see a new window popup that shows your bobber.
Now whats left to do is to catch a fish with the Reeling and Pumping skill.

There are a few ways to notice what skill to use. One of them is to look at the motion of the
bobber but this is a tricky way. I noticed that the best way is to look at the fish's HP and
ignore the rest:
* If the fish HP bar is standing still: Pumping
* If the fish HP bar is slightly regenerating itself: Reeling

If you use the correct skill, the fish will go down by a fixed amount of hit points.
However, if you use the wrong skill, the fish will instead gain that same amount of HP.
If you can get the fish's HP to 0 before the time runs out, you get the fish.

That's about all there is to it. It goes quite fast to learn to fish, maybe an hour or two and
you will find it very easy.

---------------
[Fishing Areas]
---------------
It doesn't matter where you fish. The fish and monsters are totally dependent on your skill
and character levels. Any deep water will do.

----------
[Monsters]
----------
Remember that you can fish up monsters, but it's not as bad as it sounds. When you kill it
it seems to always drop something, either shots or the lure you used to fish it up :). But you
need to be ready to attack it, they can come any time when you fish up a fish.
The monster that spawns seems to depend on your character level; they seem to be green to yellow.

--------------
[POCF Rewards]
--------------
POCF = Proof of Catching a Fish.
Okay there are a few different rewards you can obtain by fishing. The items you obtain are
mainly mats for common crafting. But you can also get common crafting recipes, key items,
Proof of Catching a Fish, and monsters.

When you get a fish you can double click it to "open" it. There is about a 50% chance of failing
to open a fish ^^ remember that, if you ask me it seems somewhat high. Most of the time you'll
get common craft materials, which can either be used in a common craft recipe or traded for POCF
at the fishing NPC. Note that it's a good idea to make higher-level materials if you want to get
POCF -- for example, 4 Fish Oil (worth 4 POCF) can be made into a Greater Fish Oil (worth 5 POCF).

Mats:
-------------------------
Fish Oil: 1 POCF
Greater Fish Oil: 5 POCF
Premium Fish Oil: 25 POCF
Fish Scale: 4 POCF
Shiny Fish Scale: 6 POCF
Fish Gem: 10 POCF
Shiny Fish Gem: 20 POCF
Thin Fish Bone: 6 POCF
Thick Fish Bone: 9 POCF

[Quest: Lanosco's Special Bait]
-------------------------------

Lv 27 quest, starts at Fisherman Lanosco in Dion.
-
As for the quest in Dion, I completed it this morning. When you get 100 wind essences, the NPC
will give you 4 wind lures (icon is broken btw). When you use these lures, treasure chests will
bite on your line. You need to get one big blue treasure chest (fish around Gludio). Once you
get a big blue chest, return to the NPC, and he gives you a golem blueprint. You have to take
that blueprint to blacksmith in Dion. She rewards you and ends the quest (reward : Black pearl
ring (D grade)). Your fishing skill has to be lvl 9 for best results.
Credit goes to Darkmotion for the quest guide.

Btw 2 questions.

Is it possible for me to ask you GM's to edit this post if I come with an update? and go ahead and sticky it if you feel like it.
You must really like fishing :D

Can't wait to try it out... still updating.
awesome guide. Me and my girlfriend are working on updating your drop list.
Thanks :) wuld be a greate help to get more working on the drop list.

Also the guide is updated, thoght to get the updated list you need to dl it from the URL.
what mobs drop REC ?
Nothing who say that any of them dropm any yet, only way to find out is if we ALL help out gatering data to build the drops up so we can find it out.

And I gladly take peopels submissions, Only got one so far.
Excellent guide THANK-YOU :D you rock!! and I will help you out with some info if i can. Great job!
Thank You Mugi Great Guide! :D

I have a couple of questions tho. What do the higher grade poles do besides using higer grade shots? We did a little study twice on our lvl 40 dwarves and with skills all lvl 12, me with C grade pole and shots Ren with the beginner Baby Duck Rod. Bought the same number of high grade lures each time. Now he is a better fisherman :p but we adjusted for that by storing his extra fish, so we both had the same number and type of fish and chests to open at the end. Well... with his baby duck rod he came out with a LOT more proofs than me so does this mean the higher grade rods are useless? Or if they are better, under what conditions?

Second question, does it make sense to use our lvl 70ish mains for fishing and leveling up the fishing skills? Will they get more or better things? or will our lower level dwarves do just as well?

ok one more question :p Where are the recipes besides fish oil, like hairpins coming from? Do you get them from fishing? Do they drop from regular mobs?
Don't know about hte recipes more then they are possible to get from clan halls and so on.

But in any event most there is in my guide, higher grade rod = more damage on the fish, at higher lv fishing like Fishing skill 20+ you want eg an A grade rod, preferly S grade if your +76.
Recipes for hairpins and eyepatches are available from different clan halls, but they can only aquire a few each day i was told. On Gustin the are selling for 1mill this weekend!

Fishing skills don't really seem to matter to me. I did the same comparison with a level 11 fisherman and a lvl 21 fisherman...same catch rate. I found that overall HIGH GRADE lures yield the biggest returns, specifically purple ones. Green lures help in getting the regular FISH GEMS needed for those item crafts, while purple get me the SHINY FISH GEMS needed as well.

Question: Has anyone been fishing in the HOT SPRINGS yet??? The video implied that different "unique" fish can be caught there. -Curious to know what they drop!
Thanks for the guide its been very helpful.

While fishing today I ended up catching a mob I had to fight and he made my head HUGE. It only lasted for about 5 minutes unfortunaly, but I thoguht it was funny.

You only need 1 big yellow chest to complete the quest. :D
Go and turn it in for reward.
Then they have fixed it since i did it, maybe the bugreport did some good. Cause he asked for a large then not a big.
Will check later on today.
As far as recipes go there is plenty in the clan halls. If you need a recipe that i can provide, no problem just ask Iam problay 1 of the frendliest saleing dwarfs around. Only raising price to make a samll profit to survie. I am not out to make billions. So the price wil be lower at first till there a norm.Just need to replenish the Funds in the clan w/h. I can add to the blue fishes. It looks like I have more drops listed than the original list, I apologise if I don't. I have looked at my list too many times today, and I can't gather the strength to look at it in-depth.

Has anyone esatbalished a grid to determine what expertise you need at what level for optimum result ?

AO :

TK lvl 34 with albatros should be of level ???

or lvl 20 Artie albatros too should be of level ?

and so..

Ty
I am lvl 33 using a baby duck rod :o I don;t really have the money right now, but decided to buy one. After I bested the one-in-a-million odds to catch a fish (a source of great frustration) I actually managed to catch a yellow treasure chest. I open it. It give me 30 POCF. Fun-fun-fun. Now I be happy I gotted something :p But really, dont get higher level fish mastery if u cant pay for a rod that sorta matched your level.

Anyway always have the quest for fishing ss active since the mobs drops the fluid aswell as the bait.

Did they fix the bug with the fishy quest? I do NOT like only getting one quest item at a time with that quest up and running...
the lvl 60 fish quest is messed up and u cant get it in aden. so no special bait for us :( i have tried reporting it and still no answer. oh well someday we will get it.
Maybe someone can test this but I thought I noticed that the reuse time is faster with high grade lures than low grade lures. I'm talking about faster reuse time for reeling and pumping. It's best to use at least 10-15 in a row before changing bait types when testing. This way you get a feel for the reuse timer.

ok well i'll update it again when i catch a couple hundred more fish, big fish and chest are pretty rare and usally fail when i turn em into items >.<
Could somebody please list what the maximum fishing expertise/pumpin/reeling skills are available at which character levels? I've messed around a bit, but can't figure it out at which levels you can gain the skills at.

For example, if I want fishing expertise lvl 17 and pumping and reeling lvls 19, what minimum level would my character need to be?

Thanks!
yellow treasure chest - 8 greater fish oil
hey ppl ^^

so
I remember darkmotion saying the best level to fish for acessories was 14, so you could fish both types of fish gems. But.. the gems are still pretty rare on that level of fishing.

I was wondering if there is a level of fishing where the shiny gems are commom? Anyone know?
Also, a level of fishing where the regular fish gems are abundant? Time to put alts to work =p
I was curious at what lvls you get levels of fishing expertise but I haven't been able to find a list.

At lvl 67 I was able to learn fishing expertise lvl 23.

I believe that at lvl 70 I'll be able to learn fishing expertise lvl 24.

Does anyone already have a list?
nice guide
Can you plz update the fishing guide with new c5 fish and items ? Thanks in advance
Is there a list of what level you get the different levels of fishing, pulling, reeling and all that? I'm level 50, but I'm going to get a d grade rod, because I'm cheap like that. But if I remember correctly, I shouldn't get all levels of skills if I want to use a lower grade rod...
Here is my fishing guide in C5

fishing for C5 accesories, feathered hat, goggles, little angel wings and such requires lvl 24 night fishing.

U need lvl24 fishing skills and with a -2/+2 margin of pumping and reeling.

First of all u need luminous lures for this and the allrounder lure i found so far is yellow.

Average upper grade fishes.

So far the white (22-24) gives random items from antenna/angel wing pieces, fish scales, deluxe fish gems and coloured fish scales. These u need mainly for the 2 slot accesories like feathered hat, goggles etc. But i have to tell u the recipe is quite insane.

For nightfishing higher lvl fishes u need at least a B rod, A grade prefered and S grade for the rich and 3rd class.

Also Soulshots are a must. I am sure your friends or clannies have some ecxess sweet fluids somewhere. Reminder dont cancell your quest with the fluids because u will lose them all.

Having higher fishing skills means tougher fish, thus more pumping/reeling in general. NIght fishing adds a nice addition to the regular fishing and that is the blue/red bar.

Where u are used to the blue bar (no movement = pump , inrease = reel) the red bar randonly switches with the blue and is the complete opposite.

Getting lvl 26 fish skills costs some adenas but they give the best stuff for accesories.

Dont worry about not able to fish lower fish /colours.

U can buy fishing pots for like 10K every colour and it last for like an hour.

Fishing depends what your goals are and to be effective with less downtime get rods around your level. Higher grade rods = more damage to fish means less reeling and pumping.

Anymore question regarding fishing u can drop me a pm.

good luck

If yes: then try to contact GM's.
P.S.:

any update for C5 fishing? :(
I want to make sure: fish scales and shiny fish scales can be used only for look altering potions and POCF's ?
Fish scales are also used for buff potions(GSAP, GHP.....).
I know about fish scales, I was wondering about the shiny ones cause I get lots of those

And second question: can I use premium fish oil for anything else than POCF?
Shiny scales are just appearance potions, I believe.
Premium oil is used in dyes.
What lvl of fishing do the fairy Antenne pieces and the other newer parts drop from?

And how can yo ufish up white colored fish scale if there aint no white lure if i am not mistaken?

The color of the lures (green yellow purple) dont correspond to the color of fish but the type of fish ie, nimble, fat ugly. Fish color is dependant on fishing level. For white you need like lvl 22-24 I believe.
i've been fishing a lot since i got my baby-duck rod , just for fun ,
im the sort of gather all you can person so i end up with a lot of oil and scales ,
i even have a favourite fishing place .
was extatic when i found out that i can use those for gsap and ghp potion ,
my question is where to i get the recipes for them ?

i've been googling a lot , asking my clanies , and random people in game .
I too would like to know where to find these recipes. Is the only place to get them a clan hall? And you guys ROCK this is a great guide.
yes different clan halls offer different common craft recipies. You can look on my L2 Info site (linked below) under game databases > common craft recipies for more info on what you can craft with the fished up items and where to get most of the recipies. (Still waiting on a few clan hall owners to reply)
Awsome thankx LadyMoira.
