PvP suggestion

Even tho this will never reach the devs. I would like to throw out an idea ive had for a while.

as for the PVP system goes, IMHO it sucks. going red for Pking someone blows, face it , its a punishment that gets old. and going to the arena to fight gets old too.

so what i have had in mind is this.
upon PVP there is no red or purple, or chance of droping items and no experience is lost(thats gets annoying too).
when a character kills another, the killer gets a chance to loot the body of the dead. upon the death a screen will pop up for both players, with #s on it, we'll say 1-99(kinda like the screen when spliting up items or selling and what not) both players pick #s, the dead char picks a # 1-99, then the killing char can picks their #s, if the killing character picks the same # as the killed then they get to loot something from the dead chars inventory, 4 items at random will be selected and placed in another option for the kill to pick one, if the killer gets within 3 #s of the dead characters #s then he/she gets to pick 1 out of the 3 items presented, and so on.
now this isnt as pollished as i would like it but, i think its better than have pretty much no chance at getting anything out of killing another player.
so what you guys think. after playing this game since closed beta, and seeing it evolve over time i think the pvp needs more work than anything else.
So your solution is item loss? That's horrible, probably the best thing about PVP is the low chance to drop items. i mean doyou realize how many people would quit due to this?

The XP penalty isn't bad, even at high levels due to teh availability of high level rez, going red is a punishment for attacking those who can't defend themselves, as such i see no reason for it to be removes, especially when it is a very temporary punishment.
So instead of applying a penalty on the killer, who slaughtered someone, that did not fight back, you want to punish the victim, with a chance of item loss ?

Please tell me, how you want to prevent lvl 75 chars venturing around all lvl 40-50 hunting spots, killing about everyone they see to get a chance at their items, which would be 19% when I look at your idea (1% to pick from 4 items, 7% to pick from 4 items, 13% to pick from 2 items and 19% to pick from 1 item). Only chance to reduce the percentage would be to go to the end of the list, close to 1 or close to 99, which the Killer would know too of course.

Since there would be absolutely no more penalty for killing someone, how would you prevent such slaughter ? Or do you want such slaughter ?

Granted, without exp loss from being slaughtered, a lvl 50 char will not be deleveled by being killed, but they have no chance in hell to kill a bunch of mobs without another high level char will kill them for chance of loot. And if the bad luck strikes, the lower level will loose a potentially vital item (pick from 3-4 item... what is the chance, that all 3-4 are not important ?) and have no chance to recover from the loss, as whenever they try to go out and earn money for new equipment, they get killed again and again, till they are naked.

In short: Horrible idea.

Horrorkitten
It's minor in the face of the item suggestion (which I won't put an adjective to here), but there's also the fact that having to run back to your hunting spot after getting killed would be hella annoying.

This is not a PvP game.

Get used to PvPing consenting targets or dealing with the consequences.
This is a PVP game, with certain consequenses for killing people unwilling to take part in PVP, hence the karma and PK score. Losing items would indeed be horrible, and this would most likely result in slaughter fests. If you wanna loot someone when you kill them, play UO >.>

The exp loss aint that big of a deal, especially with high bishop/ee rez and now in C4 the ability tobuy brez from Mammon. Surely a 7x toon can buy some or knows a few high rezzers ;) and at 5x the exp loss aint even that significant.

Some areas could be free pvp, like arenas and siege zone during siege. Say a few high lvl spots with really good drops would be turned into free pvp zone. No lowbie griefing there, people would go there for the good hunting possibilities and they could also pvp there more freely.
It's a hybrid PvE and PvP game, with the generally accepted peak of its gameplay being the sieges (which are a hybrid of PvE [making money and levelling for them] and PvP [actually sieging]).

People who say it's a PvP game are either level 1, ebayed/got powerlevel, or are oblivious to the hundreds of hours spent in PvE in the game.

Time to grind to appropriate level: 1,000 hours+
Time in a siege: 2 hours

Seems pretty obvious this is the premiere grinding game on the market.
I wouldn't call it a grinding game, because most people aren't in it for the grind. Look at RO or Maple Story for a game like that. ;)
Well if you put it like that :) For me, pve is something I need to do to get all the nice stuff, lvls and skills for pvp. PVP is the reason for PVE, altho some people actually like PVE and shun PVP ^^
Suprise, this game allows PVP all you want with NO penalties, except for XP lose to the loser. Its called waiting for someone to flag back.

Using you system would end this game so quickly, it wouldn't be funny. All that would be left playing are the few people who have lvl 75 high attack chars. All high lvls would go on a killing spree, I mean there is no real lose to them to go and find every lower lvl person on and chain PK them. Maybe they would even get a BoP or sweet armour drop as a bonus. As for high lvl healers/buffers, etc, they would be wiped out to. I am really sure a Bishop would enjoy walking across the land to find their party, only to be chain pk'ed out of all their belongings. Hmmm maybe since the high lvls would be getting drops, and spending alot of time pk'ing all the lower lvl players, we should give them XP for killing the lower players, since we wouldn't want to slow their way to lvl 78 by wasting their time hunting all the lower players.

How about this idea. Would involve something alot of people wouldn't like. Give chars target lvl colors, much like mobs. Yeah it would show if you had an advantage, so alot of people wouldn't like it. If you PK a dark blue char, the God's become angered, and a lightning bolt comes from the skys killing the PK'er instantly. He drops minimum of 3 items - all including adena, weighted towards Weapons and Armor. The god's then give the PK'ed player a 100% rez and a 1 minute window to pick up all the dropped PK'ers gear. If you pk someone in the light blue - green stage, player goes red, some penalties as now. If you pk someone white - red, the penalties are reduced from what they are now.

If a clan has war tags, their color charts would be set to white for all chars. Limited PK penalties for being PK'ed by anyone at any lvl.

Oddly enough your idea is used in WoW. They use the same color code for both players and mobs there. If the person or mob you are targeting is way out of your league (like over 10+ lvls) then it shows a skull where it would normally show the lvl (yes wow shows other ppls lvls when you target them if you are within lvl range).

I personally like the idea of at least applying the color code to players in the same manner as the mobs. This would help in a number of ways. First you'll know if you even have a snowballs chance in hell of even damaging the person greifing you or if it's just better to leave and come back later. Also it would make it harder for lvl 7x to increase their pvp scores by using newb gear and tricking lowbies into a fight.
Hehehe, and to think I have never even seen WoW being played before, aside from seeing it on display at a Game store, and thinking, hmmm so that is WoW, what crappy graphics.

while this isnt where my idea came from, that would help with the sinceless slaughter,
so could we say that a lvl 75 character can only attack characters 3 lvls below them? 40-45 can attack each other, 46-50 ect.

now instead of taking my idea and whiping ur *** with it, it would have helped for some constructive points but thats fine,
as for the precentile person, ok thats the chance they have, BUT it was late last night, and i forgot to add the part about.
items that are worth more, than others will have a lower % of being put into the looting area. say like a weapon or armor, would have like 1-100,000,000 chance of being put into the random loot, thats if they get the #s.
so continue with the deconstructiveness.

;)

pick it up play it for free on like a private server or something, then come back and tell me it sucks. WoW has bad graphics, ehh so what. the game play for WoW is why they have over 5mil subscribers and lineage 2 comes in second with 1.5mil. sad thing is lineage 2 is the second most played mmo. then it trickels on down the line with like EQ, EQ2, SWGs, ect. none of the others break the mil mark.
I didn't say the game sucks. I know absolutley nothing about the game. All I do know when I looked at it on display I thought, hmmm very cartoony. Not that that is a bad thing, just different.

lol
srry about that it did look like i was trying to be an *** about it but. yea its great gameplay, sadly i wont play it cause ive been playing and paying for L2 since closed beta, well paying part a little later but you get the idea.
If they took the game play from WoW and incorperated it with the graphics of lineage 2 that would be one hell of a game.

Only 70,000 North American subscribers. The 96% of that 1.5m is not playing on the NA/Euro servers.

The graphics are cartoony but its a style. They designed the game so that it could run reasonably well on older machines. I know people who love that style. I personally like the anime style of Lineage2 better.

yes yes yes, when i posted subscriber #s i was meaning over all, like the world LOL. thnx for adding that fact tho.
No offense, but your suggestion is insanely bad. PvP already has no penalties, it's senseless ganking that has a penalty--and from what I've seen, PvP is alive and well in L2. You're fixing a nonexistant problem with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer ;)

ok, nice for u to say its bad,
BUT Y IS IT BAD??

ok, nice for u to say its bad,
BUT Y IS IT BAD??

Sure, why not... <ul type="square"> Your post mentions "upon PVP there is no red or purple" but this is already the case. The distinction between PvP and PK, which you're ignoring, is a key and welcome feature in L2. You say "going red for Pking someone blows, face it , its a punishment that gets old" and completely ignore the fact that, if you PvP instead of ganking people who can't fight back, you never go red. In other (stronger) words: PvP is already no-penalty, it's just being a cheap obnoxious jerk that's penalized ;) Those two lead me to believe that you don't understand the PvP/PK/War system and makes your suggestions suspect right off the bat. Changing a unique and well-designed system that you don't understand is a bad idea. You punish the victim. Never good. Farmers and cheaters would have a field day with this. Want to see your items on ebay or in the collection of some script kiddie? Didn't think so. Spend a month aquiring a sweet A-grade weapon. Lose it in under 5 minutes as you become the prime target of every greedy SOB on the server. Great idea. Nobody would be able to gain experience, they'd be too busy being ganked by people they don't stand a chance against. Nobody grinds, nobody can seige or raid anymore, the game dies. Fun!
What you suggest will turn the game into a senseless gank-fest and frankly ruin what makes Lineage "Lineage"--the complex risk-versus-reward systems.

Those are the problems off the top of my head. No thank you.
what can i say i'd be the first to state that lineage is 99% pve and 1% pvp
but i still think the pvp system is perfect
if someone kills me and i choose not to fight back? they suffer a penalty
if someone ****** me off? i kill them and suffer a penalty
i kill a noob for fun? they suffer a very slight penaltly i suffer a potentially major one
we both choose to fight? one of us dies and suffers a penalty (maybe slight with 90+% rez)

i remeber thinking perma reds were a bad thing
they are not!! but that is a different thread

BTW your idea of looting corpses is so rediculous it make me wonder
1. do you have a toon above lvl 5
2. did you even earn anything you have
3. do you play a necro/sps that is guaranteed to beat someone 10 lvls higher than them regardless of the millions of adena worth +7 of jewlery they wear

I've prolly be playing lineage2 longer than you have,
closed beta ring a bell? that means u had to be on the list to play. as for me working for my items, yes i know the value. i was killed during the pre-lude and dropped a D-grade weapon, (sounds cheap) but when ur lvl 28 its a big problem.
neways, my idea for looting, is mainly for inventory like mats or what ever they happen to be caring on them only weapons or armor would have a chance to be placed on the list like 1 out of say a hell of a lot. they could keep the chance they have of droping the item the same
i also thought of another idea while i was playing C4, like trying to attack the raid boss 10lvls lower than you, you get paralized, but issue the palalized after they have taken all your CP away, that way it wouldnt hurt u when u hit someone to wake them up because u forgot to get a scroll. same would go if a low lvl wanted to attack a high lvl,
now this would be all void, during say castle seige or an arena fight.

I've prolly be playing lineage2 longer than you have,

and clearly that means you know more than me

what i assume from your post...
you are a high lvl nuker (not that it matters a nuker can easily kill a fighter class 10 lvls higher than them)

you are a member of a large alliance that travels in huge gank squad like parties that are prepared to down any opponent that comes your way

you like many other nukers carry practically nothing in your inventory (save sps sp. ore and pots)

now since you dont know me let me introduce myself
i am a fairly high lvl ws (despite the fact the class is 2x harder to lvl than a nuker)
i am equipt with fairly high armor and jewlery (of which i worked harder than 90% of players to get)
i can be killed by a nuker 15 lvls lower than me on a regular basis
i can count the amount of parties ive had since lvl 1 on 2 hands (none of these optimized for any sort of pvp)
i carry on average 30+ million adena worth of crafting supplies (that like you throwing fireballs is my job)

please take note that an effective dwarf will carry 3 weapons at all times
a pole for aoe (or excess agro)
a bow for pvp
a blunt for single target pve and effective melee pvp

what does a mage carry to fulfill those roles? thats right a staff!!!

you want to talk about pvp looting i suggest you start addressing balance issues first
but since you have been playing a nuker since ob i guess that never even occured to you
LOL wish i was a nuker,
ok run down of me
lvl 53 pally on erica, yes thats right pally, not a nuker, second im against SP, so i get ganked alot, 3rd im in the clan Army of Darkness, which is quite small, we really dont gank people unless its an SP member.
and u think u have it hard lvling and making money, try playing a pally. we are weak horrible as fighters cant carry much and we are the most gimped characters in the game.
i bet if they did a poll on what char you play and everyone who played L2 voted, paladins would be less than %2 of the characters picked.
so now that u know im not a nuker, my suggestion comes out of wanting to die, but lose mats or a waking scroll rather than losing %5 of exprience, which takes me about 20mins to aquire. i know my lvl for me playing as long as i have been sounds strange but ive taken breaks from the game, i play about 1-2 times a week for about 3 hours a week total.
I'd rather take even the full 4% exp loss than lose items from my inventory. As a destro, I'm carrying more than 1 weapon at a time. I'm carrying loads of potions. Loads of SS(oh ya, what about dwarves, they might loose say 20k ss in that system) and some bsoe, brez and so on. With that system, I'd be a cash cow for some random leet nuker who is 10lvls lower than me, but can kite me cos a slowed destro is a dead destro.

So, I die, he happens to get stuff out...so he gets a stack of 10 bsoe. Or he gets the bop that is not equipped. Or those 10k BSS I'm carrying. Or 50 QHP and so on. As warehouse space is limited in this game, we cant just go around running with totally empty inventorys. I have lots of stuff on me usually, cos my WH is full. So this would be a punishment for those players who actually craft, collect stuff and store, not just sell all but the f0 sh1zzle stuff into npc shops.

If I'm optimally equipped, I have _4_ weapons, dont fancy loosing any of them, thanks.

About paladins, they're great tanks, my clanny can tank very well and I dont care if it's a bit gimp class in pvp, so is every other melee class. Btw, Paladins can do pretty well in mass pvp, they're DAs without the cat and hamstring essentially so I dont see any reason why they cant work like other tanks (my clanny does pretty well, yes he lacks killing power, but he is a meatshield and a stunner so he's doing his job.).
Yeah with that system, having dwarves bring SS to remote locations, so you can pick up SS whenever you wanted would be a thing of the past. I can't count the number of times I have been in a party in cats or necros, when the party decides to go back to entrance and restock on SS. We would all have to go back to town then return, as the dwarves would be dead within 10 secs, so people could have a shot at 80k SS

Even tho this will never reach the devs. I would like to throw out an idea ive had for a while.

This basicaly sounds like the perma reds outside dion or gludio griefing people.

Basically it is a system where there is no penalty for griefing/ganking people except for the person who got griefed/ganked.

Im sure you wouldn't want this system if you were one of the low lvl people outside dion/gludio or newb towns who can barely afford the stuff they have. Every time you left town you got killed by some high lvl jerk. But now they even have a better chance to get your gear you can't really afford.

In all honesty this is the worst idea for the pvp system I have ever seen.

Im glad we have this system and yes it does need some polishing but its alot better than this idea.

Only thing I would change is to give more of a penalty for killing someone much lower lvl than yourself. Unless its someone your at war with. But to have someone 10 lvl's higher than you come kill you just because they are bored sucks.
