I wanted to introduce myself as a new player to the game and the server (just started a few days ago). I'm a recent runaway from WoW, and came to Lineage to find something...a bit...more. I see so much on the forums about the clans and the sieges and the seals and such, and would love to know more how the politics on this and all servers in general work. I'm still pretty clueless about gear and weapons and such. I've decided to play a dark elf mystic, but still confused at whether to go spellhowler or summoner. Pros and cons? I suppose i have time to ponder my decision, but i'd love opinions.
Concerning clans, i would also like to know how recruitment works for various ones and what they look for in people. When should i start looking for a clan home and so on.
I duo mainly with my friend Kanjin, who isn't particularly new to the game, just hasn't played for a while. He's been a valuable help, but he's also pretty rusty.
We'd both love your advice, opinions, and help getting started well in this game. This community looks very helpful and close knit, and that's a welcome change.
We've been hunting around the School of Dark Arts, lately, doing our quests we have there (drop rates...argh lol). I duo with him about 90% of the time (when he's not working). When i solo, i've been around the swamplands.
Well Xaker will be looking for you at those specified times,
Uh oh.. better run! :p
Spellhowler... heavy hitting nuker (large damage but slow cast speed) good at pvp, great at PvE and can solo no problem.
Summoner... eventually your Summon becomes your weapon and you don weapons to fight alongside the summon (all the while healing, buffing your summon). Great at PvE, have no idea regarding PvP but I suspect good. Great at soloing.
Dark Elves rule and we have the best fashion sense.
Welcome to the server! I never really found much appeal in WOW, but I'm sure it's a great game. The challenge and PVP in L2 puts it at the top of my MMORPG list. I'm not too keen on the pros and cons of a spellhowler or summoner, but I think it will be more of a challenge to level a summoner (pre c4), I heard in c4 they are pretty good though.
Usually recruitment in clans works by getting to know people in the clan by either talking and/or grouping with them and then either being invited or applying (usually on a clan website). My suggestion is to just have fun. If you need cash do some quests around your level. After you amass a nice amount you can start to work the market and buy things that are cheap and sell them for profit.
Well, to me, main difference between SH and PS is that SH is a Mage and PS is a Melee. So If you want mage forget PS and if you prefeer melee, go PS.
Once the PS hits 52 it totally stops using atack magic (they can use it but will not land half the time because it's lvl 40 skills). Around lvl 40 you'll move from robes to light armor and from spellbook/staff to duals or bow (or both). So, if you want a mage don´t go Summoner.
Both are good levelers and have no problem soloing (now PS is expected to be even better leveler since the % of lost exp has been lowered in C4). PS, in my oppinion, is at the momment a winner in PvP as long as they know what they are doing.
But, my recomendation, is to not look at what owns what or wich is the popular thing. Get something you like and that you know you'll want to play for hours and hours and hours. Liking your chara and playing it is the true recipe to be a winer. Noone who plays a chara just because it's supposed to be great can really beat a player that plays what he likes.
So, IMHO, forget about who does good PvP, etc etc etc... Look at their skills, ask about each's playstyle, and choose the one that fits you. Think that your going to pass many many hours playing, so make sure you like it.
One of my first characters was a human cleric, and because my clan at the time already had a cleric going prophet, I decided to send her bishop.. Long story short, I didn't like the playstyle and she's still level 41. I used to log her in when someone needed a rez and couldn't find any higher than 20%, since she has 30%.
I didn't like the playstyle and she's still level 41.
That happens a lot, choosing your chara looking at what clan needs tends to end badly.
:( I wonder how many hundreds of charas have finished abandoned because they were created looking at clan needs...

I choose based on my needs. I guess not having a clan necessitates that...
