What type of class would be best to start out with? I usually lean toward magic types due to the versility. Of course, Id like a class that isnt getting beat down everywhere I turn as well. ;)

I was thinking about some type of summoner, however I dont know if they are needed in groups or if they have any non-pet offensive spells.

I look forward to any advice. Thank you!
Well.. mages don't really start out being one thing or another. You start out with general skills, some heals, nukes etc.

Then, when you reach 20 you pick either nuker or healer... from there, if you picked nuker you can branch off into sumoner at 40 (you do get a summons at 20 to play around with).

There are also the Orc mages which are sort of a hybrid mage/warrior class. I'm afraid I can't give you any information about them.
How did you ever get a nick with a capital NC at the end? Just to give you a heads up, the CM might change your nick.... As you see the ones with NC on the end are from NC
If you like versatility, then a pure summoner is the right class for you. After level 52 they can use almost any weapon and armor set they want and still justify it. You can also try a necro, although because in C4 they are extremely overpowered, you won't be anything special if you roll one :D

I see you like the mage types, well here's the story if you'd like to nuke. From levels 1-40 you'd be nuking and using offensive spells (and maybe a few weaker summons from 20-40). The whole time. If you get an Elemental Summoner, then after 40 and even after level 52 you'll still be able to nuke using your level 35 spells (and you can summon at the same time).

In Chronicle 4, summoners get a major boost to their damage and a few new summon spells. It can be expensive but the benefits are well worth it. Summoners are now also invited into more groups because of their new "party-summons" and mass cubics.

Ask more specific questions, too. What's your playstyle like? :)

Most mystics arent that werstile. You start with 1 thing, but later on you chose what you will become ether nuker (lots of atacking magic, some curces almost no defencive), sumoners (only getting new skills for sumons and heals/buffs for them) or healer/buffer type (buffs, heals, some get offencive skills against undeads, not wery good ones)
IMXO, the most werstime mystic is ork. You have both offencive magic, buffs, and alco can put on heavy armor pull out mele wearpon and play fighter. (profets can play fighter too, but they have no attacking magic)

Old account, most likely from my beta days long ago I suppose.

Thank you all for the feedback. My recent MMO history is a 60 mage and 60 priest on a WoW pvp server. I enjoyed the priest more because there they are very well suited to DPS and healing so PvP survival was very good. From what Ive read and what I remember, there really is no correlation between the two games so im confused as to what to do. I'm a PvP-holic so I want a class thats at least effective in that regard but also effective in PvE due to by n00bness. ;)
Summoners are competent at both, but there is a notorious inequality in L2 PvP--- Pure Nukers and Archers are completely overpowered compared to melee classes. If you like PvP but would like a good PvE class as well, then I suggest Spellhowler, Sorcerer, Overlord, or Warcryer. You're style is kind of screaming orc mystic-- extremely versatile, have nukes and melee abilities, and some amazing buffs and debuffs.
Summoners are respectable in PvP. They do ok against foes who know what they're doing, although it's "game over" if your opponent lands a control ability on your servitor. You will squish foes who don't know how to fight a summoner, and it will be funny.

If you're looking for more direct, "classic" PvP, you should be looking at the archers and nukers. Summoners are a little different from other classes, but good in the right hands.
