But this is the suggestions board, so for asking for a better functionality of the /block command this is exactly the right place.
I do know the /block command and I do know that I can turn off the channels completely, but that is not what I want.
When I am watching TV and some moronic moderator is babbling nonsense, I sometimes turn off the sound. If the TV would only offer a way to turn off the TV as a whole, that would surely block the moderators voice, but it would not be, what I wanted in the first place.
I do agree with the OP and I too would like to see a /block version, that blocks all output of the user, safe for "say" maybe. Heck, in my old Alliance, I would have liked to block some off my own allies from seeing them on allychat, cause all they ever said, was bulls...eye (close, you get the picture).
Many many many suggestions posted here in these boards are "way off", but this one is relatively easy to implement and it is **** useful, so I do not see any reason not to support it.
I agree with Kitten - the perfect example for this is shout spam.

can make reading the shout channel difficult - the reason to block that person would be precisely so the rest of the shout channel can be read properly.
The commands that would in my opinion reasonably cover this would be:
/full(un)block [user] Blocks all messages from a user, except those received through a friendlist window.
/private(un)block [user] Blocks all messages from a user sent through private channels except the friendlist window.
/(un)block [user] Blocks all the user is saying in general, shout and trade channel. Directed messages are let through.
When a random idiot is having a civilised discussion with say oh you on shout, he'll say unplesant things and he won't stop because you want him to. The only current option is to take out the whole shout channel. This option is like cutting an arm off because you broke a nail. The nail hurts but you still need the arm. Thus idiot wins because you have to listen to him.
