When C4 launch, I was thinking "finally, my hatchling will be able to lvl faster with the SSs".
I summon it and it dies with after 3 hits from Fallen Orc Captain. This should not happen as it has over 3k HP and it took more than 5 hits from the Captain to kill it. I make a check and to my horror, now my poor Star Hatchling has only 700++ HP!!?? And it has the abilities to cast spells?
Can anyone gives me tips on how to use the new feature of Star Hatchlings and where to lvl it at lvl 40? Pls dun tell me to buy straight from Private Store as I want to take my own sweet time and take joy in lvling my very own hatchling.
Yub, the Tank Stars have been turned into a Squeeshy Mage hatchlings.
And Wind Hatchlings surprisingly are now considered warrior/tank type.
Good thing is though, go see a Pet menager and load up on Pet SS(Thanks Box_of_Fox by the way). Pets can now use those SS to hit with a bit more muscle.
As far as leveling Star, I don't know, I'm trying to level Wind on my Archer atm and so far it's looking good, you just have to deal enough damage to mob yourself now to keep aggro on you.
Most of the defensive ability (but not HP) of the Star appears to have been moved to the Wind. Wind is now a "fighter" (good on defense and offense) while the Star is now a "mage" (it has attack and healing spells).
If you wanted a "tough" hatchling, switch to Wind. If you just like your little dragonette, start treating him like a low-level mystic who follows you around trying to be useful ;)
But I am too tire to switch. I just want some tips on how to groom a Star Hatchling and where should I go to for a lvl 40 hatchling. Like I say I dun mind the change, I just want to take my own sweet time and enjoy.
I will tell you a secret. It's magic attack is ranged! If you go to level 40 mobs and use pet bsps, along with some sort of mage with root...tada...instant level. You or a friend roots the mob, ur hatchling nukes it to death. It levels as fast as a player. Say hello to strider in a few months. :D
What I do is use dryad root on the mobs, then have my star aura burn repeatedly. Refresh the root as needed.
If you are not a rooting class, replace root with whatever method of pulling aggro you have. Just keep your star from closing for melee, and you should be okay.
(I find that placing the hatchling's aura burn on your taskbar is useful)
Lol did the quests just before c4 kicked in and got one of each. Was leveling up the taxicab (twilight) but I might just go all out and level the star instead. Hehe empower that puppy... err lizard.
Yep! I forgot to mention that I've empowered my star, and he's fairly decent at putting out some damage against equal level mobs. And since they're rooted, all they can do is sit there and growl at him.

sounds cool... will be good for me cause i'm an archer. i'm lvling a wiligh now...and he has no buffs no skills crappy dmg crappy hp, and he is just as slow as the rist of the hatchlings....hmmm somehitng wrong there NC..
oh but wait...he lvls fast :), i hope that when he hits a strider he'll get faster
Yup now i have to tank for my dragon but on the up side he gains xp faster then me now used to be 1/3 for him 2/3 for me now 1/2 him when i hit ~45 lvl mobs <he still hunts blues by himself have to watch his health though>.
He kills faster too.
As far as the winds they now have a stun attack<which does not seem to land> about the same hp as the star :(
But he has a skill that raise his md & ph to over 1000 but then all he can do is sit there :( and the mob will target you after you hit it once :(
So the star is still the better hunting companion.
It seemed to me in C4-Live that the wind's stun was landing about as often as a dwarf's stun attack. Which is to say not too terribly often, but it's nice when it does. I didn't hunt with a hatchling on PTS.
It is hard to tell whose stun made the mob see stars, but we had plenty of stars. I'm pretty sure it is working.

Don't get your hopes up. I have a lvl 56 Twilight/dusk Strider. Before C4 he had close to 3k HP (if not over 3k...seem to think was high 2k lvl though) and now has 1356HP. Used to fight green mobs before C4 in mid grade Strider gear....now in C4 with top grade strider gear green mobs 2 shot him even dark blue mobs will kill him quicker than my SH can spam BSPS Battle Heals while popping healing potions on the strider.
He has crap pdef, crap mdef, crap patk. With top gear and my SH using her shield and might on it (granted only lvl 1 skills) my 56 strider has about 117 pdef and 66patk.
Oh but its supposed to lvl fast...sadly it also dies insainely fast trying to fight green or white con mobs so only mobs I have been able to fight with him have to be dark blue and I have to use my SH to debuff the mob constantly to hold agro because if agro goes to the strider....he's dead before you have time to react.
Another example...went out with 3 friends lvling hatchlings out North of Giran in the Belka Stronghold. The hatchlings were two wind and one star. They were fighting even con mobs with no buffs and mid range hatchling gear and were tearing through the mobs. So I summon my strider (remember its lvl 56 so these mobs were dark dark blue) and give it a try. Fight an orc and he was able to "tank" the mob by himself but did need healing. Fought a baskalist things (big lizard mob) and the thing darn near killed my strider...was spamming heals and poping potions to keep him alive. Only thing to save him was the SK I was with used Hate to pull the mob off my strider or he would have probably died even with me spamming battle heal on him.
Twilight/dusk striders got screwed in C4. No new skills...their supposed to be the transport strider yet wind and star striders have the same speed. HP was cut in half easily on them...strider used to have more HP than me by a good amount...now has less HP by a good amount. Even with top gear pdef/patk are an absolute joke...hatchlings can have more pdef/patk now than my strider even with top gear on.
Oh but they lvl fast...if you can keep them alive and unforunintly you have to fight mobs so under its lvl that you get an exp penality so really do they lvl fast anymore?
Oh but they don't eat as much. Fine will give you that one...they still are pretty cheap in terms of food cost /start sarcasm yea that really makes up for all the nerfs they did to them. /end sarcasm
I really wish NC Soft would respond that yes Dusk/twilight hatchlings/Striders are working as intended then atleast I would know they are screwed but for now I am holding on hope they forgot about them while tweaking the wind/star ones or something went seriously wrong in the code dealing with the dusk ones and they were not meant to be as bad as they are now. Otherwise Dusk/twilight is now a waste with no advantages (nerf to hp and seriously low pdef/patk effect the lvl of mob you can kill reducing the speed of lvling but sure they are still cheap to lvl in terms of food cost but you end up spending that savings on pet rez scrolls because they are so weak now) and serious disadvantages.
Seems like the changes to the lizard types will necessitate players adopting out their previous pets and getting ones that better suit their needs.
A tank with a dusk strider wouldn't have the problems Kieva reports, cuz the mobs wouldn't be hitting the pet. Same with star hatchlings not being able to take hits.

The skill work like a real tank UD. You get godly defense, but cant move. Use it only when the pet is in danger, prolly he will survive.

Actually, they can move, it's just like an extra-powered slow spell. My wind hatchling crawled, slowly, to a nearby second monster while the UD icon was still up.
The twighlights getting nerfed is probably because so many were leveled using the exploit. Can't say I'm upset over it. To those that actually leveled them legitimately, I feel bad for you.
While I didn't get screwed, I really didn't want a tank strider, I really wanted a nuker. Star was a tank, Wind was a nuker, I fail to understand why they switched the attributes around. They could have left them as they were and just adjusted the hp/attack power whatever.
Anyway 1 more level and my wind is finally a strider. Been taking forever to get there.
Honestly I think Twilight was alway supposed to be like that. It eats almost no food and is good for basically nothing but riding, by design...although in C4 I'm not sure why you'd want a ride-only strider anyway.
They didn't so much switch the atributes around as radically change the star. The Wind was always a DD; it had a physical attack skill, and had better patk than other hatchlings.
I can happily say I do enjoy my star's abilities. My very first hatchling, a star, has been sitting in an alt's warehouse for a chronicle and a half because I couldn't afford to xp him up. Now I can, because it's much easier with his nuke.

Actually before C4, the Wind had a limited range windstrike attack (used mp) so I considered that a nuke. It's HP / pdef was bad and now it's good. Also its rate of consumation was much lower in c3, now it eats like a pig. I'm guessing if a star owner was looking at how much food my wind is eating, they'd say it's like the star in c3.
Regardless they made the change and for better or worse I doubt they'll change it now.
I am saddened by the changes i have a lvl 52 star hatchling that is now completely different than he was a week ago - i put a lot of time, even more food, and a lot of xp lost to my main into getting him to where he was. There was nothing wrong with him as he was, it was the only pet that as a BH i could have fight the same level mobs as i was fighting and not worry about not being able to heal of buff.
I asked NC soft why the stats were changed in such a manner but get no responce other than "It is a game play question and you should check on the official site or in the forums for an answer" (paraphrased) I have looked on the patch notes and see nothing about the changing of stats so this leads me here and i ask of anyone who reads this "why did NC Soft change the stats of the star dragon"?
I don't think they would have changed anything to this extreame with a particular character class so why rerole our pets?

Um.....huh?
Hon, I've been raising dragons since "before C4" and unless it occured prior to that...The Wind was never a nuker. PowerStrike is the closest skill to what it had, not WindStrike. It wasn't ranged -- the little beastie had to stand close as heck to a mob. Saying it was a nuker because the skill used it's MP is rather odd.
A Blade Dancer uses mp when she uses powerstrike, dances, debuffs, etc. That does not make her a nuker. ;)
As for rate of food consumption, I'm not sure what you're judging against, but I haven't noticied our Wind hatchlings consuming more. Fact is, LordVaako can still devour a small orc village (sorry Splatter!!).
I'm not jumping on ya hon, but with a Lvl60 Wind now in our clan, plus several Wind and Star hatchlings currently being raised by us, your comments caught my eye.....
My first hatchling is a Star and I welcome the change^^. At lvl 42, I am hunting Fettered Soul with EMP 1 buff. Killed them in ard 8-9 shots with BSPS. Not too bad.
But I wonder what will happen to the Twilight Hatchling since they dun have anything to lvl with in C4....man it must be hard.

I'm not the least offended, if I'm wrong, I'll take the hit :). Anyway I guess just because it uses mp doesn't make it a nuker. It was changed from what it was before and I definately notice it eating more, but maybe it's a level thing?
Anyway the point is that a while back when hatchlings were introduced the descriptions led me to believe that the Wind was the hatchling that would more in line with my character/playstyle. After spending months leveling it solo I feel the time would have been better spent on a star. Specially since I've rezzed the wind so many times and a higher pdef/hp star would have made that all unnecessary.
At the end, I'm not all that upset as the wind is still a decent pet, but just not what I wanted.
