What happened to my dice? I can no longer make em roll....it says "players are no longer allowed to play dice, but feel free to sell em to the store" or some such garbage.
Whats going on here....dice were my fave....one night in gludin I made 50k by betting with some chick. but now.....I'm crushed.
Thank the Koreans. They had to take the dice out of the game, because apparently (that's what I read at least) people there are not allowed to gamble, e.g. roll dice for money or something like that. So they removed all dice from the game with a patch during C3, and now we get the same treatment with C4. Most likely simply because the animations for the dice are no longer in game, and the NA team cannot put them in again by themselves - not because they want to prevent the players on the NA servers from gambling.
I still think that someone leaked the information to Gambling Commision about there being Gambling in L2, but they aren't getting their share of the cut (err, call em 'taxes'). So GC told NCsoft to cease all Gambling in L2.
Everytime you leave town, you are betting that you don't get PK'd or killed by a mob. Everytime you enter a catacomb, you are betting that you don't get trained. Yes, the higher level you are, the better the odds are in your favor, still a gamble.
i loved my dice, i was an addict and rolled it 100 times in a minute to annoy people.. and now i cant anymore
It's funny what people are interested in. I never thought the dice were of any value and I actually thought that others felt the same way as I rarely saw people use them.
Online games need a random number generator of some form. We used the dice to determine who got drops from raid bosses in C3. Stupid not to have some kind of generator of random numbers.

my thoughts exactly, substandard/normal information that was given to the player base said that the dice were being removed from NPC stores - not that dice were also being disabled. I purchased about 100 dice from the NPC, some for possible resale but with a clan and alliance I've always seen dice used to see where the raid drops went - you need a random number generator; guess now everyone can go to the race track and choose which mobs comes in first to see who gets which drop.

Live and learn
I used mine to annoy people. I actually had a dice roll as part of one of my fighting macros. *I* thought it was funny and that's really all that matters. Sucks they got rid of them.
It's sad really, I didn't know about the dices until last week, and I bought some for my charachers because they were fun to have. And now they don't work.
Right now it's they only thing I don't like in C4, my Dices don't work anymore.
I guess I'm more conspiratorial than most. My view on the removal of the dice is a bit different. The dice used the random number generator, and gave a numeric display of its sampling of that RNG. It was therefor a sampling tool for the RNG.
I've always wondered if this sampling feature could be used to help the success-rate of over-enchanting. Have your friends start rolling dice, when someone gets a 'six' or a 'five' or whatever, hit the enchant scroll. Maybe you'd need to see multiple 'sixes' or something. Doing such experiments would have been free, since, if there was no relationship, you'd just have the normal chance.
Perhaps someone found a magic sequence of dice throws that flagged a 'sure-thing' overenchant period. That would trigger a move to remove dice from the game.
I also bought a few of these just before C4, when their removal from the shops was announced. I incorrectly thought 'removed from the NPC store' would not mean 'disabled from use.'
[Oh, 'dice' is plural; the singular of 'dice' is 'die.' 'Dices' is what the Vegamatic does, if you are old enough to remember that commercial.]

I do not think that would have worked. As far as I know, the local client only displays, so all "processing" and "number rolling" is done on the server. So when you roll the die, note the number and roll the die again, in between the two rolls the server has produced THOUSANDS of other random numbers for all the other stuff happening in the world. So the sequence of random numbers you get from rolling a die in game does not help you one bit.
im 99% sure the random generator for a dice roll runs seperate from any other. ive had some testing on pts and live on crafting and overenchating and never really saw a difference in high or low rolls

In french with just put a "s" for plural, we don't change how the word is spelled. :p
Wow. I have tons of posts but would never take the time to correct someone about something like this (I assumed you were not a native English speaker anyway).
I'm annoyed that this change was slipped in unannounced. They said they wouldn't be available from stores, not that they were intentionally breaking all the ones we already owned.

I bought about 200k worth of dice from the npc to resell after they were removed from shops. BUT NOPE now I'm out 200k and cant sell them and I cant even play with them!!! I LOVED dice... I had one to two dice on each char of mine. It was worth the inventory slots to play with dice >_<

You should be able to sell them back to an NPC.
To be fair, since they blatently mislead us about this change, NPCs should buy them back for exactly what they cost for us to purchase them.
I loved the dice. I used to gamble with them and just plain have fun. Their removal deeply disturbed me. I think this post should become a petition and placed on the suggestions forums. That's what a GM told me to do. Bring back dice for a better tomorrow. /signed
They got dice out because Koreans where making RL gambles and losing everything... you know Koreans, they dont go home for weeks because they stay at internet cafes....
Dice were temporarily disabled in the launch of Chronicle 4, and we plan on changing this during the next scheduled server maintenance on Tuesday. Dice will be usable after the server maintenance, but will still not be sold in the NPC vendor stores.
