Repeated Game Crashes: Freezes computer

General Technical Issues Started Last reply 21 posts
In c3 my game was fine. I never had any problems with the game crashes, just the occasional disconnects everyone gets. But since c4 (mind you I didn't have this problem on the PTS) my game crashes repeatedly. The sound loops and the game ends up freezing my computer and I have to cold boot. I've tried upgrading my graphics driver, doing a system recovery to a previous point in time, uninstalling extra programs, uninstalling and reinstalling L2, defraging, disk cleanup, you name it, I've probably done it.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and/or if they've fixed it or something. It's painful playing and then freezeing up and having to cold boot rediculously often. It's not fun and not to mention not healthy for my computer.
Just what type of video card do you have and whats the driver version?
My video card is Nvidia GeForce FX 5600. And to be quite honest, I'm not sure how to tell what driver version it is. x.x
Do you have windows xp and do you know how to get to your device manager window?
I do have windows XP and I have the device manager window up.
Goto the properties of your video card... I believe it's under the Driver tab at the top....Click on the Driver details button.
Alright. I have the driver details window up.
I 've got the same problem, exactly as described by KidneyThief, I 've got the same grafics card (GForce 5600 FX Asus) and after a few minitues of gameplay, every image and pc generally freezes and I have to reboot :/ Plz, if someone can help, we would be grateful.
Note that I have installed the latest driver for my card (from the nvidia site) and directx 9.0c (and I think everything started after installing the latest directx thing... !!)
You say you have the latest driver, but what version do you have installed?
Well, whats the version number?
Well if I went about checking correctly it says the driver version is 4.5.2.3

Well if I went about checking correctly it says the driver version is 4523

From what i could tell that driver was released in August 13, 2003

The current version is 8198......
Wow umm... so do I have to go through anything specific on the Nvidia website to get the newest one? Because I downloaded what I could tell to be it.. but apparently it isn't. lol
Ok so I downloaded the 8.1.9.8 version. Figured I'd hop on the game and see if I would freeze up completely again... and I did. Log back in, freeze up completely again 5 minutes later. How do I uninstall the old ones and how exactly does that help? If this doesn't work, might there be another solution?
Well, I mentioned that I had installed the latest driver from the nvidia site ! I unistalled the driver and reinstalled it, and yet I have the same problems :/ I think it has to do with the directx 9c ! Everything started after installing this version. Any ideas ? And I want and an official reply about that matter !
To uninstall a video driver you would use the Add/Remove Program list. For what the benefit is....

It's always a good idea to uninstall the old driver and install the new one so you don't have issue with any previous files.

I don't know what else to suggest, i think it's tine to contact support and tell them your issue.

Any ideas ? And I want and an official reply about that matter !

Then you better contact support as you won't find that here on the boards.
Latest Nvidia driver have graphic problems with Lineage 2, Shadows is not working as they supose to so just be warned. It's in there conflict library.

Secondly this Sound crash bug hapened a few times in C3 for me like 3-4 times totaly, Alredy got it 5 times in C4, including my friends get it then and then, so yeah thers defetively some new bugs going on.
Well. After no solutions and being fed up x.x I decided to do a complete wipe of my computer. My game now runs perfectly... well atleast I don't have that same problem anymore. Good luck to those who still have this problem and thanks to everyone who tried to help. It was very much appreciated.
Make sure you have the latest windows update. I say this because when I got the chron 4 update I had lots of errors. The problem ended up in me not having the latest ms .net update. Something as simple as that can really mess up things. :)
Also make sure you have ALL the latest drivers. It sounds like you haven't updated for a long time. This includes sound also.
