Shilen Oracle D-Grade Gear

Player Questions Started Last reply 15 posts
I just turned 20 and went Shilen Oracle with my dark elf. I'm currently rocking the devotion set. Gives a nice casting speed bonus, but I need to upgrade to something D grade. Any suggestions? I looked at the knowledge set, but apparently the gloves are spoils (right?) so they would be hard to get (right?). What should a Shilen Oracle choose for their D-grade?
Thanks.
I do believe there was a post about this a week ago or so... but here is the simple answer nyways :p

elven mithril set is the best set for non-damage dealing SOs, but because the gloves are so expensive, i suggest you skip d-grade, keep your devotion set, and save for c grade ;)
another possibility: forget about set bonuses and try to get any robe/stockings combination just for the additional mp. White Robe/dark stockings look quite good, the parts are easily obtained (as well as the recipes), and they don't require a lot of mats, only prob could be to find a crafter since these are seldom requested.
Depends on where you intend to hunt. Robes is good for big parties, for smaller parties and solo (you can solo quite long equiped with a good melee weapon) use light armour.

Devotion set is still a good set to use for a while. For robes the mithril (banana) set is rather populair. The gloves will be quite expensive to obtain though.
Mithril set is good, with or without the gloves.
if you gonna solo/play DD a lot, knowledge set it the set you want. gloves aint cheap, no, they go for around 700k-1m on bartz. anyways, even if you go knowledge, you maybe should exchange it for mithril set later, lets say at lvl30-35. cuz at that point you will be needed as a healer, not a nuker anymore. your nukes will be very weak. but, its the same here, the mithril gloves aint cheap... around 1m on bartz.
if you gonna group a lot, and do the healing all the time, you can stick with devotion until 40. just dont get aggro from mobs :)
Having played an SO to 40 just recently here is my 2 adena's worth. :)

Going D grade, even without the whole set, is definately worth the extra survivability it gives you. You get hit for a LOT less with the higher Pdef and although as a healer you shouldn't be tanking sometimes it's unavoidable.

I ended up with a Sage's Rag, which I like a lot better than the 'banana' suit.
Thanks for all the responses. Where would be the best place to buy either mithril or knowledge pieces? Should I suck it up and buy from the npc vendor, or do people usually sell this stuff in private shops for less? Aden would be a long trip, but I wouldn't mind if I could save a little adena.

Thanks.
I used Devo set all the way to 40. Nuking with windstrike works until lvl 30, and then using disrupt undead passed that seemed to d the trick ( EG~ fettered souls in Giran territory ).
Dion or Giran are your places to look. Either private shops or doing shout outs for them should do it for you. ^^
I wouldnt go for the knowledge set, the gloves are a money trap. I can try to recall how many actual gloves i have seen in the past (about 3 in the past 2 months) and average price on Erica was from 3.5m up to 8m. I would keep the devotion set and not worry about tanking and the such. Fine a tank friend or a DD friend and be a true healer. If you somehow make a fortune and feel you really want that knowledge set then go after it. I made the mistake of buying the tunic and gaiters and now it just rots in my warehouse while i run around with devotion at level 30, i am a dark wizard though so the casting speed is cake
Yeah I'm not going to be doing the Knowledge set. The individual pieces that are easily obtained have much nicer MP bonuses than the devotion set though. So I guess I just need to decide what I'd rather have: Nice pool of MP or faster casting times. Hmm...
hmm Im just saying, having a high Mp pool does not help you level faster. sure, you can nuke a bit more until you have to rest. but when you rest you have to sit longer.
so if you are not going for knowledge (that would be the best for a nuker) then go for casting speed.

That depends on the playing style. We're talking about a SO here, and many of those end up grouping with others (in catacombs or wherever). Then you have to buff and heal, and to do that you NEED a large mp pool. Otherwise the mp will be gone after buffing everybody, and you would have to rest to have enough mp to actually start hunting/healing.

But if you solo, you do not need THAT large of a mp pool, yes.

This would only be true if you're not playing a healer/buffer.
Buffing even a small group takes a pretty large chunk of mp. But with VR, you don't have to heal too much, so as long as you have enough mp for emergency heals, you can keep hunting after buffing without resting for mp. That's why I went with divine (that and it looks better to me) instead of karmian. You can get cast speed from tats, weapon, and buff/pots.

For d-grade I went with elven mithril (yes, farmed an awful lot of red codas to get the gloves, but the prices on d-sets seem stable enough not to lose the investment).
