OMG... i heard there is a way to evolve ur baby pet with a quest or something.... somebody confirm this plz!!!!!!!! i want a big cougar!!! HELP ME PLZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go to rune area and go to beast farm, you can get big cougar there
The baby pets aquired through quests can't be evolved in this chronicle. You can see the larger ones though by hunting in the Beast Farm and taming mobs.
*sigh* chucking cougar bell back into storage... :p
omg but u cant keep that trained pet 4ever... i just want a big cougar that i can love and will buff me T^T
Not this Chronicle.
If you're a soloing fighter, you will quickly fall in love with the cuddly kitten. Its heals reduce downtime sharply, it's nifty.
the new pets die in 1 hit and 1 agro spawn is enough to get it killed unless you hit EVERY mob comming your way before it can take a swing :/
Yes, they are VERY fragile.

They have their place but you have to understand how easily they die and be willing and able to deal with that.
yeah but they are incredibly easy to level

just like a wolf then ? :P
Much much worse than a wolf. :)
Yikes,

And hmm I may have to go get one of these new pets. Have a Wolf and a Hatchling, but the little heals may be nice, I do alot of soloing.
it is a baby, and all they do is heal. so just tell them to stay and a safe point and pull to them while they heal u
heard somewhere that they buff to, this true? and at what level should i snag one? im 30 now
buffing is only what the tamed ones do at the beast farm thingy

What he said :D park your pet a bit further then the respawn areas and venture out a bit. Don't might mobs too close to your pet as some mobs have area effect abilities like poles, fireball etc

The range of the heal is pretty good, even if you stray too far away your pet will run towards you, heal from range and run back. Just make sure the area is clear before going any further, otherwise repark your pet closer to spawned mobs.
Do they need to hit mob to take exp or they just leech your exp?

They just leech, and the really good thing is that the level difference between the pet and your character does not seem to matter.
I tried to support my lvl 16 elven fighter with my baby pet... and it was really efficient. As long as I hunted the passive non-social quest mobs. ;)
Then I made the mistake to venture out further into aggro mob land with the cougar in trail. Actually went good for the first 15 minutes... In the next five minutes however that furball died 5 times.
One time the very second I rezzed it another mob spawns on it and beats it dead before the light column of the rez faded. >_<
Another time I had my pet parked outside the aggro area... I see one mob spawning close to it, so I decide to go and kill it before it could randomly wander towards my pet and aggro. As I close in my pet heal is triggered, he runs to me, just into the aggro range of the orc fighter and dies before the casting is finished or before I could reach it to help. :P

Leveling with those pets really takes some skill as it seems. And I'd rather level my pet along with a similar level char than parking it outside a necro room on my main. If rezzing it would not be so painfully expensive... >_<

Any fraps about baby pet leveling techniques are highly appreciated. :) I need some training.

I have been doing this in Hunter's Village on the valley route. The ghost things don't seem to care abou the pet and I park it way out, so it has to run alot to cast the heal.
I only lost it once when the satir and I has a disagreement on how quick it was going to die.

Cal,

I leveled mine with me, not the hidden in the trees trick. I found it was fine as long as I was very careful to gain agro first and I pulled singles. If I got two, as long as I could get agro first he lived. If I couldn't, then he usually died.
I spent over two hours leveling with my now lvl 17 elven fighter accompanied with my baby cougar today... that was good fun. :) Earned 110 varnsih with the manor system, too. Although I used blessed rez scrolls my pet made only ~10% XP. But that is probably ok since all mobs I've been fighting were dark blue to it. The upside however is that it can get my lowbie HP to full with a hand full of his heals, so I was able to solo white mobs nonstop... well almost nonstop... I had to stop 6 times to rez my cougar. ;)

I refined my tactic a bit tho... and since blessed pet rez scrolls aren't that expensive, the manor system totally compensated my investments there.

Some notes to myself and everone who is interested in leveling baby pets:

1) Always carry blessed pet rez scrolls. They don't cost too much and save you a lot of trouble. If you have no rez scrolls left and your pet dies you should hurry to get one, before the pet and all it's XP is lost.

2) Your pet dies in one hit, The level of the mob doesn't matter. This has several cnsequences for your prefered hunting spots:

2a) Try to hunt only/mostly passive melee mobs. If you're in a mixed area, always kill all aggro mobs in range first.

2b) You will want to avoid that mobs get between you and your pet at all costs. Also you will want to avoid to have mobs closer to your pet than to yourself. -->

3) You have two methods for levling with your pet, parking and following.

3a) If you can take on one or two mobs before you need healing you will want to park your pet in a safe spot without mobs and at least slightly hidden from PKers. Perfect is a spot on a lake or hillside as mobs can only aggro from one direction which is easier to control.
Make sure you only farm the first "row" of mobs from the hunting area, don't wander in too deep! Although the XP range for the pet would support it, the risk is very high that mobs spawn between you and your pet, and as your HP drops during a fight it will run towards you and die as it passes the respawned mobs. That's how I used most of my pet rez scrolls.

3b) You can have your pet following behind you. That's the better alternative if you cannot find a suitable place to hide it. Although it comes with risks: Try to avoid mobs that stand close to their comades. Sometimes your pet wil run past you and draw aggro. Also you should not hunt in circles but in rows. Move quickly from one end of the hunting ground to the other to avoid respawning mobs. More than once mobs respawned directly on my pet and instantly killed it.

4) Look for passive mobs in vicinity to which you could let your pet run when it draws aggro from a slow melee mob and you notice soon enough. Use the "move to target command" (hotkey/macro!), let your pet run and de-summon it as soon as possible, use ranged skills on the mob to regain aggro. (Never worked for me so far but thought I'd mention it anyway).

I hope that helped a bit, if you made your own experiences with baby pets you want to share, every bit of info is appreciated. ^_^
