I believe they just heal. Mine is at the same lvl as when i got it and it heals for 26 HP every few seconds. If you equip yourself with Pet BSpS and activate them to Auto On in your shortcut bar, then it will heal for about 72 or so. I believe heals are the only thing you will get from Baby Pets. If you go to the beast farm and tame one it heals for like 700 or so HP and gives anywhere from 1-3 buffs. However tamed pets will not port with you and will disappear after some time. Baby pets are yours as long as you take care of them.

At level 30 baby pets heal for 31 hp, and at level 31 they heal for 39. I can keep you all updated on how much mine heals normally if you all like, since I'm always leveling my kitty.
Just thought I'd add that the tamed pets at the Beat farm heal fighter classes and RECHARGES mage classes. I'm a prophet and my tamed pets were recharging my mp for 120 (kukkabura), 124 (buffalo) or 128 (cougar) MP. Made spamming Battle Heal not affect my MP.
