Baby Pet FAQ

Since there are so many questions about this I thought I'd put together some answers from my experience. Please let me know if there are other things we should include?

1. What’s the difference between the Baby Pets and the Pets from the Beast Farm?
a. You can get the Baby Pets starting at level 24, they are permanent. The pets from the Beast Farm are an upper level 60s quest and they are temporary. They follow you for varied amounts of time but if you log off you lose them. This FAQ is about the Baby Pets.

2. Where do I get a Baby Pet?
a. There are three quests for these. Visit the Pet Manager in Giran, Dion or Gludio. I have also heard that clan halls sell the Pet Exchange Tickets, but I can’t confirm that because I’m a lowbie nobody who isn’t in a clan with a clan hall! ;)

3. I want a Baby Cougar, where do I get that?
a. If you want the cougar you will need to Visit the Pet Manager in Giran. The Buffalo comes from Dion and the Kookaburra from Gludio. I know you can find complete quest guides on Stratics cause I wrote them. The quest names are "Help my Son" "Help my Uncle" and "Help my Sister"

4. What level can I get my baby at?
a. The Cougar is level 26, the Buffalo level 25 and the Kookaburra level 24.

5. What is the difference between the different Baby Pets?
a. They start at a different level (see above) but other than that, just the way they look.

6. What do I feed my baby after I get it?
a. Baby Spice you purchase from the Pet Manager.

7. Will my Baby ever grow up?
a. No. There is no word on whether they will ever let the Baby Pets grow up in future Chronicles, but in this one a Baby is always a Baby.

8. What does my Baby Pet do?
a. You mean besides die easily and take 10% of your XP? They heal you. Small heals that get slightly larger with level, but always still small comparatively.

9. I am a caster and I want a Baby that does recharge.
a. Sorry, you are out of luck. There is no Baby Pet that recharges, however if you are a high enough level (upper 60s) you can go to the Beast Farm in the Rune area and get a temporary pet there. These pets will do random buffing and healing or recharge.

10. What kind of armor can my Baby wear?
a. None. They have a horribly low Pdef and will die in one hit to pretty much anything. A common tactic is to hide them somewhere safe, tell them to stay and fight mobs out of their agro range.

11. Can my Baby use a weapon?
a. No, all they do is follow you, take 10% of your XP heal, make cute little noises and die easily.

12. Can my Baby use Soulshots?
a. They CAN and they can attack, but it's just not worth it, considerring their p.atk seems to stay at 1 always. (credit for this goes to SpoiledPrincess!) However you can use SPS or BSPS to improve their heals.

13. Can I level my Baby?
a. Sure can! They level fairly quickly and their heals get slightly better as they level.

14. What happens if they die?
a. If you are a caster with a rez you can resurrect them. If you can’t rez, make sure to carry several rez scrolls with you. Someone else can also rez your pet. You will get a confirmation box on the rez and need to accept it. Please note that if something happens and you get any other kind of pop up you will lose your that chance at the rez. This means your Baby won’t be rezzed and if you were using a scroll, you will lose it. Just like other pets you have 20 minutes to rez it.

15. What happens if I don’t get it rezzed in 20 minutes?
a. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, your Baby is gone forever! They are just like other pets (wolves and striders) and the same rules on feeding and dying apply. If you don’t feed them, they die, if you don’t rez them they are gone.

16. If my Baby dies or I sell them can I do the quest again?
a. No, it’s a one time only quest. You’d have to do it with another character (can be on the same account just not the same character). Although I have heard that you can buy the pet tickets at Clan Halls remember I have not confirmed this.

17. Can I trade my Baby to someone else?
a. Sure can…you can trade it or sell it or give it away.

18. Can I name my Baby?
a. Of course and I’m sure you will pick out a wonderful non-stupid name for your cute little Baby.

19. Can I have a Baby Cougar and a Baby Buffalo both?
a. You can have all three, but not have more than one OUT at a time. You can’t have any other Pet or Summons (except the Tamed ones from the Beast farm) out with the Baby. This is particularly bad for Summoners.

20. So if their heals are so low and they die so quickly, what good are they?
a. Well, if you dismiss the cute factor (and they are so very cute), they do help melee classes cut the downtime for soloing considerably. But they are expensive to get and you have to keep up with food and rez scrolls so they aren’t for everyone.

21. Anything else I should know?
a. If I think of anything…I’ll let you know!
It's good just this one part though

12. Can my Baby use Soulshots?
a. No since they don’t attack, however you can use SPS or BSPS to improve their heals.

They CAN and they can attack, but it's just not worth it, considerring their p.atk seems to stay at 1 always.
Aww thank you, I'll correct it!
It is no problem. I'm a pet lover and I'm trying out many things with my baby cougar right now. She is nearly 32 and so far has been healing for 39 hp.
From what I can recall
Level 26 to 29 heals 26 hp
level 30 heals 31 hp
level 31 heals 39 hp

Also if your character is critically low on health, under 1/4th where the hp bar starts flashing, it will do a quick battle heal that will use up most of it's mp, but heal for much more health. At levels 26-29 this was only 100 hp, but for 31 (didn't try 30) it healed I think 141 hp.

If you like you can include in your faq a chart of how much the pets heal for each level. I can help with that. My baby cougar is almost level 32.

Normal heals
Level 26-29 = 26 hp
Level 30 = 31 hp
Level 31 = 39 hp

Critical Battle Heals (Hp bar is flashing)
level 26-29 = 100 hp
level 30 = ???
Level 31 = 141 hp
just hit 32 on my baby cougar. Heals are the same as 31 was so far.
my cougar is currently lvl 48 (90% ish, almost lvl 49) and heals for 53 hp without any spiritshots or blessed spiritshots.Im expecting it to get the next higher heal very soon at 49 or 50.

im going to lvl with the cougar, not gunna lvl without it, and ill find out how high they can get and for much more they can heal at higher lvls.
Normal heals
Level 26-29 = 26 hp
Level 30 = 31 hp
Level 31-33 = 39 hp

Critical Battle Heals (Hp bar is flashing)
level 26-29 = 100 hp
level 30 = ???
Level 31-33 = 141 hp

My baby pet just hit 33. Anyone know how much it battle heals for at level 30?

18. Can I name my Baby?
a. Of course and I’m sure you will pick out a wonderful non-stupid name for your cute little Baby.

is HotNSpicy a non-stupid name for buffalo? >:o
My cougar is up to level 42. She heals for 57 on the normal heals. Haven't had a chance to find out how much the emergency heal does. On the upside, her pattack is finally going up :)

16. If my Baby dies or I sell them can I do the quest again?
a. No, it’s a one time only quest. You’d have to do it with another character (can be on the same account just not the same character). Although I have heard that you can buy the pet tickets at Clan Halls remember I have not confirmed this.

i can and is true i have my baby buffalo thx to Clan Hall. :D
Hit 34 on my cougar today...didn't check for how much it heals yet. Is the owner of this "faq" even checking this anymore and considerring updating? O.o

I think it would be neat to include a table of how much the pet heals, like I had provided so far with my cougar hehehs...
Yes, I do check it and I'll update it eventually. I was hoping to actually get all the heal levels up to 80 (max level for the pet) before I posted.

I will resume tommorrow no doubt, and I'll try and get it up to level 40.
Great job on the updates SpoiledPrincess! Thank you very much.

^.^ No problem at all. My baby cougar is 39 now almost 40, and so far no change in the amount it heals. I'm expecting something new at 40. I will give you an update and how much my cougar is healing when it hits level 44!!
Thers a complete list at the test section, somewhere deep in.

also it only geting a stronger heal every 10 lv's so
20-29 it have 26 hp heal
30-39 it have 39 hp heal

It does not have 31 hp heal at 30, just filling you in there.

Then I imagined my baby cougar healing me for 31 hp? >.>
That's not completely true...at level 58 my baby cougar's patk is 13 now [although i might have had dance of the warrior going at the time...hmm...]

And also the critical battle heal is something like 267? I'd have to double check to make sure.
hey i'm new to the whole pet gig. where can i pick up the baby pet quest? then once i get one i'll be more than happy to contribute to the thread.
It depends on the pet you want.

From the FAQ above:

a. There are three quests for these. Visit the Pet Manager in Giran, Dion or Gludio. I have also heard that clan halls sell the Pet Exchange Tickets, but I can’t confirm that because I’m a lowbie nobody who isn’t in a clan with a clan hall!

verygood info thankyou

My cougar's level 74 now, I think her patk is something like 35 or someplace in that neighborhood...same with pdef.

I'm thinking about starting an alt and giving my lvl 74-80 cougar to them...they should be decent accompaniment for a new char up until about lvl 20 or so wouldn't you think? And other than poison you might not have to worry too much about the agro at those low levels. My cougar's got about 1200-1300hp now [still gets one/two hit killed in witches/ascetics, but for sub-lvl 20 mobs in the field should be okay I would imagine]
It would be interesting to see if the high level of the pet impacts the lower level character's XP other than a straight 10%.
lol, don't forget that the brave little babies will run straight through aggro mobs to heal you.
hihi :)

thought i had add to your faq a little, since i have like 18 of them :p

Q) where can i get pets?

as far as i know all clan halls provides only the baby cougar for 550k.

Q) When does the pets stop getting 1 shotted :( ?

probably, never. above lvl 40 or so, it does survive the first hit by melee mobs or thereabouts. but if specials/magic attacks are used, they are goners. (considering that i brought them to varka silenos)

Q) patk at level 80?

here's one of my moo moo

http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/3803/moostats3gp.jpg

it's the max level, and it dinged with antharas :)

Q) Critical heals?

unfortunately, if i ever need a critical heal, i am generally dead (read: raid boss or pvp), which in those circumstances it's either kept or set to a far corner, so it never had the chance to heal me.

hope i was of some help :)
Could anybody suggest me a good place to level a Baby Pet right after it's possible to get it?

My god, how did you level it to 80? You are great. :)
I got my Shaman at lvl 26 a pet to heal is butt and we went
to NOS the necro in Gludin area, the heals helped a lot. Just pick a room then summon the little guy, put him on stay put, give him some ss for heals and food and works great.
Just a quick note on the baby pets healing power; it is actually cheaper per hp to eat normal hp pots than have the baby pet use beast sps.

Not saying they don't help but at least <40 don't give them beast sps.
I have a lvl 80 cougar: it heals for a bout 85, emergency for about 314 and it can wear armor there is one baby pet armor for the three pets. The lvl80 is good for lvl1-45 but after that they are nearly useless and they can kill llvl 20 mobs at lvl80 w/o ss and are immortal to magic casters at 1 to around 50+
