The description both in game and on the official website says the following:
Creates a vortex that connects to the dimension of light. While launching a light magic attack, it absorbs HP, instantly decreases the enemy's resistance to light attack, and decreases MP continuously. Over-hit is possible.
Lets dissect this.
1) It does launch a light attack
2) This attack does NOT absorb HP (the counterpart, Dark Vortex does absorb HP, as is stated in its description as well).
3) It does decrease resistance to light attacks
4) It does drain MP
5) Overhit is not possible, I have used this spell probably about 500 times by now and it has never once overhit.
So, 60% of the skill is working as planned.
It was really nice and exciting to get my new skills to play with, especially after having cancel, auraflare, sleeping cloud, frost wall, and aqua splash all gimped. But I think it would have been a lot nicer if my skills actually worked.
I'm looking forward to Ice Vortex in a bit, hopefully it will deliver more than 60% of whats promised.
Im A Sps lvl 60ish an i cant wait to get to where your at, must be prety crazy up there...
I dont supose we could see a Pic of your Sps all Buffed n everything, so we.. (I) can see what im guna be when i grow up :P , im thinking just a pic of stats with buffs , u could hide everything else :P
No presure here, i just like to see the stats of ppl who made it this far in game... its fun...!!!!
I had ice vortex on PTS. its a nuke+surrender to water in one. light vortex is a nuke that drains mp, of course it drains hp, its a nuke! lol it does like 2300 dmg. do light vortex then overhit with flare. notice its more dmg.

Absorbing hp is different that doing damage.
Clearly its going to do damage, it already says it does light damage. Icevortex is also supposed to slow attack/cast/runspeed, let me guess, that was a mistranslation too.

the skill already owns, now stop whining. It doesn't make sense to drain hp. Only dark attacks traditionally do that. And Overhit was probably a mistranslation and why do you use it as a finishing spell anyway? And overhit doesn't help in PvP any so why are you complaining.

I don't need to use it as a finishing spell, I can one shot mobs with it, if I got an overhit out of it, It would be a better deal for me.
So what you're saying is that dark vortex can do surrender to dark, drain mp, absorb hp, and do dark damage. And fine, thats accepted, but NCSoft said the skill would work one way, and it doesn't. If it were to absorb HP it would make it an equivelant spell to dark vortex, but for now it does everything dark vortex does except suck back the 1200 or so HP back to the caster.
Basically, SS/ST get vamp + surrender + dmg + drain MP
MM get surrender + dmg + drain MP
I don't care if it doesn't drain the HP as promised, but ffs, make it do something else then.
privatepanke and lillyrd....holy crap...CONGRATS on the lvl 76 and new class
thats awsome...i hope that i can be there sometime soon(agrade in 2 days :)) any tips on fast lvl? or should i just go with the constant, safe grind taht i have been doing? I solo 90% of the time with buffs....and i can get almost 1-2%per buff round...is that good? i'm lvl 60
Edit: sorry...that was way off topic...i'm just really impressed
The feature notes have been updated (http://www.lineage2.com/news/chronicle4_04.html) with a more accurate skill description for Light Vortex, which will be changed in game as soon as possible:
Creates a vortex that connects to the dimension of light. While launching a holy attack, it instantly decreases the accuracy and the enemys resistance to holy attack. Decreases MP continuously. Power 139.
What you are saying, is that light vortex should be, " Creates a vortex that connects to the dimension of light. While launching a holy attack, it instantly decreases the accuracy and the enemys resistance to holy attack. Decreases MP continuously. Power 139", whereas dark vortex should be "Creates a vortex that connects to the dimension of darkness. While launching a dark magic attack, it absorbs HP, instantly decreases the enemys resistance to dark attack and decreases MP continuously. Over-hit is possible. Power 139", and these two spells are supposed to have secondary effects that are equally beneficial? Did I miss the train on this one, or am I right to believe that reduces accuracy is not equal to absorbing hp either in terms of desireability nor usefulness?
Even if we just consider the movement of hp during a fight, it should be intuitively obvious that unless the decrease in accuracy is large, the damage reduction will not decrease the hp total of the mystic muse nearly as much as the hp restoring effect will reduce the total hp movement of the spellhowler. This is partly because absorbing hp is a definite and guaranteed effect, which can be quantitifiably and reliably calculated, whereas reducing accuracy simply reduces the chance that the player will take damage, however the decrease in probability that any particular attack will miss because of this effect is likely to be small because a mage already has a low evasion, so that the average decrease in hp reduction for the mage will likely be smaller than the hp restored by dark vortex when each mage only uses their spells once.
However, because dark vortex reduces a targets resistance to dark magic, every dark vortex cast during the time interval when this effect of lowering resistance is in place will return a greater amount of hp thant he first dark vortex, as it will be dealing more damage. However, light vortex, only reduces accuracy the first time, and is not compounded for every other subsequent light vortex.
In short, I am very dissapointed that NC failed to make the holy counterpart to an evil spell equally useful.
Spellsingers get the somewhat short end of the stick with some spells (compared to other nukers) because of casting speed. If you get to level 76, you should have realized it by now...
I agree, it kinda sucks, but with a higher casting speed a spellsinger can hit more often within the same amount of time... so will take advantage of the "Surrender to X" debuff more than a slower caster
PS I have no idea how long the debuff lasts, though,... so what I said might have no relevance whatsoever :D
Dark Vortex doesn't over-hit either, at least it didn't on the PTS. The drain is nice, but giving SpS a life-drain would imbalance the game somewhat IMO.
