Ok so this is my first dragon attempt...and im lost. How do I level my dragon at a reasonable pace? Im a lvl 42 warlord so I cant buff my dragon or heal him. It is a star hatchling fresh out the flute from the "little wing" quest. Any tips on how to lvl him will be a great help.

Yes, you can check Kiranya's site for posts I've made and the forum there as well. Without rehashing that stuff too much, here's a couple of things to keep in mind:
Your Star is a Mage. Buffs would work wonders with it, but if you don't have any to give, you should definately invest in potions: greater healing (alothough Star's now can self heal; the pots help in a pinch); Greater swift attack (Haste 2); greater magic haste (acumen 3 for casting speed); and by all that is holy -- BEAST SS and BSPS. :)
Start in Execution Grounds to get the hang of working with your pet. Keep all agro on you (whack the mob, use a spell, etc). Let the Star "melee" attack it AND "nuke" with its Bright Burst skill. These are where the Beast SS/BSPS will truly help.
Beyond all else invest in Pet Brez scrolls. They return 100% of XP lost on death. If you can't afford, you can use regular Rez scrolls (but will lose the XP). Final thing, buy weapons AND armor for your baby beastie. You wouldn't go up against a mob without gear -- don't force your hatch to do the same. :D
