Hey guys im pretty new, well i tried it for two days before but stopped for personal reasons. Now im back and want to give it a honest try. I did play wow for over a year. I have heard that the only draw back to this game is that to get in current grade gear and weapons its almost a must to ebay. I do not want to play if this is the case. I understand it is against the TOS agreement but would like some player inputs on this. I most likely will play a LE SR. Any tips on a decent server would be appreciated aswell. Thanks in Adavnce.

theres no need to ebay. Just play the market, dont use gatekeepers like theres no tomorrow, dont spam SS unless you absolutely need to - and youll be fine.

Theres another bunch of topics on how to make money - you wont have trouble finding them.

best luck, and welcome back to l2 =) youll enjoy

BTW
Lineage 2s pvp > WoWs pvp =p

I have heard that the only draw back to this game is that to get in current grade gear and weapons its almost a must to ebay.

You misunderstood....Unlike Wow, this isn't an easy "I hit top level in a month" type of game. Anyone can be in top grade gear it might take close to a year to do so.

This is a 12 chronicle game it's a time sink, so dont be so concerned about "I must be top level" type of play.

Sit back and enjoy the ride thats my tip to you.
There is absolutely no need to go against the EULA in anyway unless you can't play a game for your life and/or can't do basic math to find out whether or not you are getting a deal.Yes you may have to play for a little while before you get the prices down but it is possible. And don't dismiss all dwarves as bots as in some cases a good dwarven friend can often help you get cheap mats or crafts ;) But to complete my post and completely answer your question....NO you don't need to buy money. As far as a server they're all different really I randomly chose mine :D
Thanks for the geniune comments. Seems you both really like this game. The reason for leaving wow is the Easy lvl'ing and no-fault pvp where nothing but a run backto your body occurs. I wont be worried about Topshelf gear for the most part. Thanks again for the tips and comments.

To further address the server issue you should first decide what you're looking for cause often there's more of certain types of gameplay on a server. As for me I'm a native sieghardt player :D
My tip to new players is this:

Friends are better than adena!

I played WoW for awhile and had a Priest in a top raiding guild. In WoW the game defines the limits of what you can do. You can't PK everyone, you can only marginally scam. The game forces you to behave.

Lineage II does not.

You see the worst of people in this game and conversely you see the best of them as well. People who are good people in this game aren't forced to be by game mechanics.

People scam here are some of them seem just down right evil. Never give anything to another player in this game that you are not prepared to lose forever. You will be PK'd for no apparent reason.

But you will also meet people who help you and who are geniunely kind. If you make friends and keep them, you will never be lost in L2. It's the friends who will help you out when you've dropped your armor on death or when you have been PKed.

Sometimes it's really hard, but try to remember to have fun while you are here and if you worry about keeping up with the ebaybies you will always feel bad. Just play the game on your terms and hopefully you will find it as rewarding as I do.
Welcome back to L2.

Yo have to earn your way in this game. It doesn't offer instant gratification present in some games, but the rewards you get after working your way to success are much sweeter. Don't get caught up in that "need to ebay" mindset.

If you are going archer, you are choosing an expensive class. But the game DOES create ways for you to earn enough adena to support you. Do Quests. Run instead of GKing sometimes, or learn to use SoEs to save a few thousand adena from time to time. Learn how the market works. Resist the urge to dump your mats on an npc shop and find a good private buyer. Learn the prices from town to town on certain items, invest some adena and resell in a town whose selling price is a bit higher. Learn the manor system. Learn how to hunt mobs that don't require as much SS or heal potions.

You also need to know that there are 3 parts to this game: PvP, XP grinding and Profit grinding. Rarely will you be able to do 2 at once let alone all 3. If you grind for the best XP, chances are you'll need to spend your adena on heal pots, shots and maybe even greater swift attack pots. Expensive stuff! Your XP will jump up quick, you'll gain levels super fast and the next thing you know, you are at that next grade.... but are too poor to afford the gear for that grade.

Allocate some playing time to hunt light blue and green mobs. Turn off the ss and party up a healer. Your xp will suffer. But you'll be bringing in more than you are spending. Collect those mats and troll through Dion or Giran looking for someone who will buy them for more than the NPC shop.

Also, do the fishing quest. Get yourself a pole, learn how to fish and sell your catches.

Best of luck to you.
About all that is needed to be said has already been said, so I'll just throw in a simple tip for a LE going for SR. Use a dagger from 1-40 and after lvl 40 and becoming SR, pick up the bow. With dagger you will use less ss, you dont need arrows and it is really fast exping. Cheaper than using a bow, but still good exp. With this, you can also more easily use the manor as you will be close to the mobs and not shooting them from far away :) Good luck.

About servers, if you're European and want to siege/do other stuff at prime time, then Teon is the place for you since it's the only Euro server. Otherwise, take a pick from any of the other servers, you might end up at Teon even then since we got lots of American/Canadian players too but for Europeans, Teon is the most siege friendly in terms of times.
Ive played 3 servers, alot of people buy adena. I can count on 1 hand, the number of people that have geared suited to their level.

Im not going to say its good... but...ahhh.. its just ridiculous... ok look.

Dont say play the market, he has no money, so you cant just start off playing the market.

To get say, 5m to get your d grade etc etc, whatever, it would take you many hours of grinding, 10-15+ hrs.

Whereas if you buy it, it costs a pathetic $8-$10 and you are set.

Buying money is not needed, but **** if you have the extra money lying around... its $10 lol

thats all I can say

How much a lvl 75 char goes these days?
You wouldn't be interested.

edit: **** these ninja posters.

A 75 char costs a 60 se and alot of free time
It's not like im saying EbayzZ00rsSS ftw!

Events. Events can be SOOO good.

L2day event, pumpkin events..uhh...other..events..
They give alot of money, for noob plays at least some mils, which is easily enough.

They should hold some small events to make a little bit of money 2-5m for new players every few weeks.

Then I would retract my statement about spending 10$ for 5m, isnt needed.

You MUST use the manor system or you MUST have a scavenger! It takes adena to make adena. Buy low sell high sounds good but how do you get the adena to buy in the first place? I've used the manor system and later made a scavenger for spoils. Best is to use a scaveger to work the manor system and to spoil at the same time. Nothing other than Brig Helemts is worth crafting under level 40. At level 40 you can continue to sell materials at a top price and then buy your top C grade weapon. Don't plan on crafting anything until B grade - if you demand top price for your materials you will get them.

Use the Blacksmith of Mammon to get your top D weapon. Sell your materials then use that adena to set up a buy store for stones to exchange for AA. Then buy a tarbar, find the Blacksmith and exchange the tarbar and the 480k AA for the top D weapon of your choice. You can do the same to get your top C weapon. Set up a buy store for C & D crystals that you will use to buy a weapon at the Giran Luxury Store and then use AA and trade the mid C weapon for the top C weapon.

Having knowledge of the game will save you lots of adena - most people don't have time to learn the game because of the rush to get to high levels. Being in a hurry and not knowing the game will cause people to take short cuts (i.e. buy adena).
One of the best things about the game is the sense of accomplishment you have when you work very hard to do something and, after much time, you succeed. This will include things like your second class change quests, developing a good clan, and getting yourself good weapons and armor. However, the people who ebay deprive themselves of the immense satisfaction of accomplishing the weapon/gear equipping. They make the game LESS fun for themselves, not more.

They also cheat. It is my SINCERE hope that NCSoft continues to improve their detection of EULA breaches in this area and retroactively bans all ebayers. They are getting better at this steadily.

<stomps and glares> Yeah, cheaters are clearly a hot button for this orc.
Welcome! :D Decent gear can be had if you're strategic about it

This is so true, I played almost 1 complete month only playing the market, I did not hunt and make any XP. I stayed in town buying/selling and I made a lot of money easily.

This is also true, 2 days ago I finally made it to level 40, and it felt like I've accomplished something. It felt really good the first time I put my Full Plate and SLS on, when I clicked the link to become a SK and when I summuned my first Cubic.

And I know that if I had cheated to get there, it wouldn't have felt that good.
Pay the $15 for a 2nd Account.

Buy a 2nd Computer.

You are now ready to play the game competitively.

So you don't need to ebay or break the EULA at all. Alternately you can just find a significant other that will level with you.

As far as the money making thing... if you enjoy playing markets and being frugal, this is a great game for you. If you think you should make enough to afford gear through the course of normal play... quit now. The game isn't designed around being played... its designed around being worked.. The Korean 'game' philosophy closely resembles a job and since they don't view game currency any differently then real currency it works out pretty well for them.
I made a little over 8 mil since the release of c4....I just fish, fish, fish and then turn all my crap into proofs and sell em. I started selling at 1100, then cause of other ******s had to lower my price to 850. I had a store up two nights ago for 850a each, and a guy next to me had one for 550...I turned off my monitor, went to bed and when I woke up, Sold Out.

Prolly wont last long as the market for them is limited...but for the time being, its pretty sweet.
Bah, fishing proofs went from 500 to 200 on Teon in a few days T_T
this is a list of what i'd like ppl told me when i started that game :

- since C3 and the add of unstuck command, GM are useless... petition them is a waste of time, whatever your problem is (bots, account hacking, insult, scam etc...)

- people who buy adenas are stronger than people who don't. If you want a fair game, play an other mmo.

- If you want to have money without buying adena, you can play a bounty hunter, but this is less fun than playing with MS-Word or Excel.

- if you're not ready to play 2-4 hours a day to be level 61 in 1 year, forget this game.

- Healer is the worst class to make money. Playing a healer without a 2nd account is the best way to have D grade gears at lv70. Healer have to play in group, and playing in group don't make as much money as playing alone.

- Be ready to pay that game for nothing... some server are always full, and it happen you can't play at all for many weeks.

- most of Lineage2's player don't play for fun (not only cause a lots of chinese live from it). If some players could meet themself IRL, i think they would kill themself. It's a hardcore gamer's game ! not a fun one !

well... now, that's why some people like l2 so much... But be prepared for it.
Imma help him out

no comment on gms... never had a problem but hear stories.

not true at all... The farmer raid clans are the strongest in game, and they don't buy adena... seriously though... you don't need to buy to win.

excel can be quite fun! :) not sure about bh though...

it isn't THAT hard.

that is just stupid... you don't need to spend money on a weapon at all... heal power is changed very little... the most you would ever have to spend is 3m for a crystal staff with mana up. Oh... and healers don't need to use much b-sps... sps works fine for them...

- Be ready to pay that game for nothing... some server are always full, and it happen you can't play at all for many weeks.

hi, I play on bartz. Never took longer that 10 min to get in EVER!
