Who do I talk to or write to complain about the current bidding tactics on TEON. HOw about you players voice your opnion here to let NCSoft know we dont care for the subclan bidding tactics.
Using 1 member subclan to get all of the clans is an unfair tactic and I do NOT see how this helps the game. What purpose does it serve to OWN and KEEP all of the clan halls from being used by the regular players.
To me this falls under the use of ADENA inside the castle walls to help defend the castle. Or the use of HIGH LEVEL player PKing anyone who tries to sign up to attack the castle.
I would like NCSoft to please find a better system or investigate this unfair bidding practice.
AT LEAST....just bump the minimum BIDS to 999,999,999 and be done with it. MAKE it so that if you want to control all of the clan halls ..then by god...make them pay for them!
What's the difference between that and what happened on Kain? Within 2 seconds of C4 coming up, all the Goddard halls had a max bid of 999,999,999. Everyone else was SOL.
Whether the clan has a lot of people or not really doesn't make a difference. Whoever had the money first wins it if they had max bid. Anything else was a blind auction and anyone could have won if they had the cash (and the good fortune of being top bidder/first top bidder)
That being said, I will agree that the auction system is easily the most stupid I've ever seen. I guess that's what the hideout and devasted castle is for.
It serves many purposes. For one, it prevents the other, possibly hostile clans from having CH buffs, CH rez, CH craft and CH port spots. It also makes it easy to lvl alts. Say Clan A has 1 man subclan Clan B. Clan A has a CH already and with C4 there's new CH's released, so they decide to buy one with their subclan Clan B. Thus they have the CH for possible future use, and if they decide to roll toons and place them in Clan B, those toons will immediately benefit from CH bonuses.
By buying all CHs of a certain region, for example Goddard, you can blockade other clans from using those in Sieges/wars and generally make it harder for them to fight you in said region. It's all tactics and server politics, and as far as I know, NCSoft doesnt meddle in Ally politics.

/agree
oh and pking people before they can sign up to siege your castle works quite well and is a very good tactic.
And caused alliance wars on Teon in the past ;) But it's a fine tactic, if perhaps not the most fair one.
it only prevents ninja sign ups at the last minute... no way you could keep enough people there for 5 (?) days to prevent any sign up... if they were determined enough anybody could sign up... if they want to sign up in the last 20 min... they should get pked
The tactic of buying to prevent attack to castle whatever, that is fine. Creating a clan with one member, main being castle owner, doing it that way is not a fair tactic. Two different things. If they wanted all the clan halls to prevent it then the other clans in the ally should have taken it.
This game is limited as it is, only a hand full of people get to own castles. Two hand fulls get to own clan halls. As for dev, hideaways them clans take them too. This whole thing needs to be revised soon.
And you know what? A friend of mine who watches such things mentioned to me that a day after C4 was out, there was no adena for sale by one of the largest sellers on Lionna. Hmm.....And that billion adena came from?
I would like to see more clan halls... I wouldn't mind if they were instanced... so you complete a really hard quest that takes a full clan, and then you get a clan hall, so every clan has the chance to get one... there are some clan halls that belong to clans that no longer even have members, but as it is now... buying all the clan halls on 1 char clans to stop others is fair game.
Thirtysix sounds good to me, makes it special and worth having, worth saving for, worth fighting for.
If you wanted to try to make a parallel to an appropriately sized part of Europe during the Dark Ages, the number of castles and manor houses would be roughly consistent.
36 Involved Clans
40 Clan Members per Clan (This is from memory so if it went up please correct me.)
1,440 Characters able to have a clan hall or castle
70,000 subscribers (from Dec 2005)
9 Servers
Average # of Accounts Per Server: 7,777 (I realize the distribution isn't even but there's no way to account for this.)
So a 'ruling class' of 18.5% of each server... sounds like a pretty sound design if you want to cause strife between the players. The ratio only gets worse from there if people aren't filling up their clans.
Quite right Torq. Since much of the basic design of the Seven Signs hopes to also generate 'class' conflict between the rich castle holders and the poorer serfs/peasants/lower gentry, this fits right into the picture.
Heck, people who want all the wealth shared evenly and who think everyone should be equal, what is that name that is used in the rw? Fascinating game design, causing inherent conflict between monarchists and communists....yet many of the leading clans run on a communistic model, donating materials and monies to the common goods.
Only bad thing I see about clan halls is that once they are auctioned off, they will never change hands again unless the clan dissolves. No chance of any other clan EVER getting a clan hall. Heck, people keep one man clans up just because they have a clan hall, in case they MIGHT need the clan hall later again.
You start playing the game too late, you never have a chance of getting a clan hall. That sucks.

Yes, be sure you elaborate on your friend who spends every day checking the adena-selling sites... :)

I believe him. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl said the same thing to me.

maybe once a month the clan leader has to click a button to keep paying the rent on the clan hall. That way an inactive clan that has a few million adena in the clan vault will not auto renew for the next 8 - 10 months.
Hm looks like alot of castle/Clan hall owners answering this post.
We bid on a clan hall but lost by 13mil. What can you do it happens. But I definatley hate the idea that 10% of the server can dominate the other 90% of the server with adena.
They should implement a clan lvl/member requirement to own a clan hall. That would stop someone from making a 1 man alt clan to buy up all the clan halls.
You could have requirements: Say the clan had to be lvl 5 with 25 member or more and have been active since C2 to be able to bid on a C4 clan hall. Now when C5 comes out if your clan started in C3 you could bid for 1. Sounds like a fair requirement to me. I dont know just a suggestions.
Would have been nice to have a clan hall. I really dont see any in game tactics to bying up all the clan halls except too keep the products that can be made and sold out of the market. There by keeping the prices inflated on those items. We can still get buffs we can still soe to town we can still siege. There is no other reason to do so.
There's some parts of the game that the devs obviously want available to everyone. And some that they obviously want to be precious competitive resources. Castles and raid bosses fall under the latter. Class-changes and what not fall under the former.
Clan halls fall into this nebulous area, where it's by no in-game accomplishment, yet they are extremely limited, to approx 1 character per 6 accounts. Hooray for Uncle IGE. :p

Actually we busted our behinds in-game to get one. Did raid bosses 3/4 times a week for month. Did Lilith for lvl 11 and 12 crystals and raided Antharas several times to get the adena for it. For a PVP clan a clan hall is the best asset possible in game. 50% rez + quick buffs + porting directly to hunting grounds is absolotely priceless. It was a huge alliance wide effort to get it.
PvP clan, but who did you pvp to get the clan hall?
Can another clan war you for the clan-hall?
That's why I feel the clan-hall setup doesn't fit with the game's atmosphere.
Considering ownership of a castle (the ultimate clan-hall) is secure for only 2 weeks, and you must battle for it - yet the almost-as-scarce clan-hall, the first clan to max-bid has it basically for life. Without even stepping out of the peace-zone.
Clan halls are very PvE in how you get them (not counting the bandits-stronghold type), yet they're restricted.
They should implement a clan lvl/member requirement to own a clan hall. That would stop someone from making a 1 man alt clan to buy up all the clan halls.
I'am about to disolve my clan and join the clan of friends. As In the early C4 everyone on Gustin was bidding for the new and High level clanhalls i had no chance to sell it for a good price. So I kept the clan hall till all the others were sold.
It realy would suck to have a rule to have a minimum count
of members in such a case.
And keep in mind there is still the rule a Castle Holder can not bid for a clan hall.
As I read somewhere else, don't make the "rent" payments automatic. Give the clan leader until a certain deadline to make his payment or it goes up for immediate auction (kind of like signing up for the seven signs). This would put clan halls owned by banned leaders back up on the market. If you go on vacation as miss a payment? Tough. Let someone else have it.

Not true. My clan has a castle and was able to bid on a clan hall. Now we have both. Along with a hefty mortgage...
lol @ SirElrohir's *really bad* idea. Why should I, as a clan leader with important things to do, be required to micromanage the payments on a clanhall? I stick the money into the vault to pay for it and that should be enough.

Tough. My time is important too. Autosign me up for the seven signs. Auto defend castles for owners too busy to attend a siege. If you can't be arsed to sign onto the game for 2 minutes at least once a week, TS.
A better solution, and one that actually makes sense would be instead of having a flat fee (which they should keep as a minimum payment), the rent should have been a percentage of how much the clan paid for the clan hall.
Most people would be pretty weary of paying say 100m a week (if they paid 1b for a clan hall) just to keep their clan hall.....

I understand the sentiment, I wish there was more of a challenge to keep one besides adena. But, we did start 2 alliance wars over an Antharas raid and fought the raid boss farmers over spawns.

This is a very good idea. What is clan hall fees 100k a month any clan or alliance can afford that but a rare few can afford to bid 999,999,999 for a clan hall. If you had to pay 10% of what you paid for the clan hall then people would think twice about how much they bid for it.
Or an even scarier thought. What if clan hall upkeep was based of your winning bid, but was whatever the town tax rate is. Ouch that would really hurt for some clan halls. Would also add in some more politics for CH owners and castle owner.
very good ideas i think, and i like the idea from SirE, if its that hard for a clan leader to log on for a few mins to pay it.. well tough luck, i dont belive for a second that you are to busy to do that.

It is true that people will periodically miss out on lin2 play time to:
-- go on vacation
-- recover from surgery
-- mourn a loved one
But people who do stuff like that prob'ly don't have what it takes to be a good clan leader, eh. Unless they also account-share. :p
That's a great idea actually. Even if they bid 1b for it, they'd eventually run out of money because of the upkeep and someone else would be allowed to bid on it.

I actually love this idea. 10% a week would be reasonable and bring down the amount people would be willing to pay.
I still think the clan leader should have to log on to pay the CH NPC each week. This, if nothing else, would put the CH of banned leaders back on the market.

Your idea makes no sense.
Under your logic, ncsoft might as well require you to see the trainer once a week to keep your skills current.
And, once again, you miss the point that I have already done my job by placing the money in the bank.
IRL I can do the same thing with my mortgage by giving the bank the money ahead of time.

In my opinion, no. Best solution would be to remove maximum bids on clanhalls, put all the clans up for re-auction each chronicle, and give the clan possessing the clanhall a credit for the amount they already paid the previous chronicle.
So for example if a clan paid 1 billion adena in c4, then when they rebid in c5 their new bid starts from 1 billion adena plus anything new they add to increase their bid.
This way a clan must mount an economic defense to retain their clanhall each chronicle, just as a clan must mount a military defense to retain its castle each seige cycle.
I actually love this idea. 10% a week would be reasonable and bring down the amount people would be willing to pay.
Why would anyone want to bring down the amount people are willing to pay? Assuming the money was earned legitimately it's a good money sink, and it makes it worthwhile to achieve fame and riches in the game.
What use is money if there's nothing to spend it on?
We are fighting in this game over sources of money (castles, raid bosses) and that's what creates the conflict that creates content (pvp). If there's nothing to spend money on, there's nothing to play for.

Your response makes no sense. Me keeping my gladiator skills doesn't stop another from training theirs.
And who cares what you can do in real life. This is a game. It's supposed to be dynamic and you're supposed to play it. Again, if you can't find 2 minutes to log on as the clan leader once a week, tough [censored].
