Stryders!

Ok, if i buy a hatchling, and lvl it to 55 does it turn into a stryder? Im going SK. What would be the best hatchling for me? I saw other posts on this but i could find an answer to my specfic questions
I believe you need to complete a quest before it becomes a stryder.

I can't help you with your other questions though.
It doesn't turn into a Stryder when it hits lvl 55. Once it hits level 55 you can get a quest from Wiseman Cronos in Hunter's Village. It's not too difficult. Once you complete that your dragonflute will turn into a Stryder Bugle.

As an SK you should get either a Twilight or a Star. From what I've heard about the changes to Star, it sounds like that would be the way to go.
DO NOT get a Twilight if you want your eventual strider to have skills. If you want a scaly taxi, go ahead. :)

Benefits of the other two:
Star - can fight, can "nuke", can self-heal, you can ride
Wind - can fight, can stun, can UD, you can ride

The Star, once shunned because they were difficult to raise, are now -- IN MY OPINION -- much easier to raise. Before their only skill was Hate; now they have offensive skills!
just a note, twilight hatchling levels about 4x quicker than a wind hatchling. not due to hatchling skills, but the way the exp works.with twilight killing a mob, it got 2% at lv 36. my wind however, got .4% killing the same mob at 35.
thats 5x the xp not 4 :p

No one denies a Twilight levels faster. It always has. :) Personally I chose to take the extra challenge with Stars AND Winds because both are more valuable for their skills. If someone is looking to zip around town on a dragon, cool - go Dusk. If someone would also prefer to have their dragon fight and do some damage - go Wind or Star. :)

In any case, the OP needs to decide what use he wants out of a dragon pet, then choose accordingly.
I got a twilight to a stryder on the PTS, but I have never leveld or had a friend who leveled either of the other two.

But from something I read at some point I was under the assumption that once a hatchling turns to a stryder its the same as the other two. That they dont keep their skills. They get stryder skills and stryder stats.

I havent honestly kept up with any changes made to them, since I gave up leveling a ghatchling long ago. But with C4 Im going to make a stryder, so I wonder if each twilight keeps it skills, and general stat distribution. Will a twilight be the fastest stryder?
Big question, can a striders use their skills while you're riding them, ie can a star strider nuke while being ridden? If not then I want a level 70 taxi cab cause that's its main use. Also someone posted that hatchlings have more power than striders so can a level 70 hatchling morph into a level 70 strider instead of a level 70 hatchling morphing into a level 55 strider post quest? TY.
Wow, thanks for all the help guys! this really got me thinking
Skills on strider? Bleh. Who cares about those. Unless you wanna be extra mean during the siege and try to kill people with the strider and hope they drop their gear. Why even leveling a strider past 55? Even if hurtin for damage, any lvl 20 PC will probably out do the damage a strider does anyway.

My vote is for the Taxi Twilight =)

Twilights don't have skills - a hatch or strider.

You've never been able to use a strider's skills wile riding it. Your skills take over. Your skills will be more powerful than the dragon's anyway so it's not a bad thing.

Your hatchling will change to a strider based on its level. If you level a hatch to 55 and do the strider quest, you'll have a lvl55 strider. If you do strider quest when hatch is 70, you'll have level 70 strider. etc etc etc.
You can't use most skills while riding a strider, neither the strider's nor your own. You'd want a wind or Star if you wanted to have it out fighting alongside you. I've heard that the Stars are quite good DDs now. Personally, I have a Dusk because I wanted a "scaly taxi". I like that term by the way. :) I use my taxi to get to a hunting field then I summon my wolf or my cougar beofre I fight.
Well yeah I know when you ride it it uses your skills, but how about when your not.

And honesty I dont even really care if it keeps it skills or not. All I want is a fast stryder, since the twilight is supposed to be the fastest hatchling, will it also be the fastest stryder? Or are all the stryders just clones?
Best I can tell all striders have the same speed. Twilight/dusk which were supposed to be the transport strider has the same speed as a wind or star one. In short in C4 dusk striders got the major screw.

Also keep in mind that the striders will have a speed of 187 summoned, but when you mount it speed is more based off your speed. For example my dusk strider has a summon speed of 187. My PR has a speed of 188 so when I mount the strider I have a combined speed of about 211 or so. BUT if I get ww2 or use a haste potion my speed goes up to 222-225 depending on which armor she has on.

Now my SH gets on the strider. Again strider has 187 speed summoned. SH has a speed of around 130ish or something. Mount strider and speed goes up to 158ish...use ww2 potion and speed is 187.

So even though your strider has an unmounted speed of 187 your mounted speed will not be the same. Striders do give you some speed increase over your normal speed and with ww2 speed will be about what the striders unmounted speed is unless your a class with speed bonuses like daggers or archers sws etc.

I remember in C3 in doom armor on my strider with ww2 and SWS speed song from group had a speed of like 252 that was fun.

Anyway Dusk pretty much suck now. Even with top gear it can not handle anything over dark blue and even then a dark blue will kill him if I dont heal him (strider is lvl 56) and being that the dusk has no special skills and supposed to be the taxi of the game I was VERY disapointed to see my strider got no speed bonuses since it lacked any skills and even more upset to find out the other striders which do have skills are just as fast as my strider that is supposed to be the "transport" specialist.

Sure dusk lvl fast but NC Soft cut the dusk striders HP in half in C4...went from 2700+ hp to 1300ish HP. This means that it gets beat up insainely fast now so only way to lvl is fight dark blue mobs which oh by the way exp penalty for fighting low lvl mobs they dont lvl so fast now. They still are the cheapest to raise in terms of food cost though where my dusk goes through 10 foods star/wind will go through 50+ foods. Don't think thats worth the nerf though.
