Suggestion: New Servers

Game Suggestions Started Last reply 26 posts
There are many players like myself that may have left a long time ago and come back to the game. There are also many players that may be playing the game for the first time. And still more people that may want a fresh start. I suggest the creation of 3 new servers:

- 1 Normal Server
- 1 "Relax" Server like the one they have in Korea.
- 1 Non-PvP Roleplaying Server.

The creation of one more normal server should encourage many people to come back to L2 and many others to start. One of the discouraging things about the game for newer players right now is the fact that if you were a newcomer just starting, then you'd be ridiculously far behind everyone else. You'd have to contend with Archers that gained most of their levels at a time when there was no Archery Resistance in mobs and they could solo half of AL. You'd have to content with Dagger classes that leveled in C2, when Might Mortal reigned supreme. You'd have to contend with all of the people that leveled up in a time when the game was less balanced than it is now. Granted, it's much easier to level that first character now and accumulate Items and Adena with the new character bonus system, but still, you'd be starting a LVL 1 Character when many people have LVL 75 SUBCLASSES. To many people, it can be very discouraging having to forever play "catch-up". Now that a new Chronicle has been released and the game is so much more balanced than it was before, I think a new server should be created to give an opportunity for everyone to start over again as equals.

There are also many casual players that cannot hope to keep up with the "hardcore" players. In Korea, they provided an answer to this with the creation of a "Relax" server, which limited the number of hours a week you were allowed to play on that server. I think it would also be great to provide an option where people could play casually, but at the same time not fall behind the rest of the server.

Finally, there are simply people out there that don't enjoy being ganked and griefed and while I know it's part of the game, I don't think it would be bad to provide a server for the role-players out there that prefer the PvE and Roleplaying elements of MMORPG's. So I suggest the creation of a non-PvP or Roleplay server. On this server, for PvP, you should have to either request a PvP (as in WoW) or design it so that PvP can only be done through Clan/Alliance War. Either that or one should have some option to toggle their availability for PvP. At any rate, this server should also be strict in terms of the naming of characters, allowing only role-playing names (ie. CN8249 would not be a valid name on this server) and it should be more focused on PvE, Role-Play dynamics (maybe do something with the storyline), and Events.

I think the addition of these 3 servers would be greatly beneficial for the overall Lineage 2 population and help to attract more people to the game.
I'm curious how you enforce role-playing?
so many threads on this in the past week...

the box calls it a massive multi player online game... doesn't mention anything about RP... just a thought...
Well obviously there's no way to "enforce" people to roleplay, but it should be labeled as the official "Non-PvP Roleplay Server". This naturally attracts roleplayers to the server as well as other people who are more interested in Questing and Events than perpetual gankfests. Also enforcing a character naming policy helps this along as well.

Also the fact that the box doesn't mention anything about Role-Play doesn't mean that we should provide the option for players that may like to do so. Lineage 2 is a great game that can be enjoyed on a number of levels. The creation of a roleplay server for those that enjoy the game and its PvE aspects would only be beneficial to the game and the community. The World of Warcraft Roleplay servers, for instance, are doing fine. I don't see a reason to put down the idea for such a server. This is a fantasy genre game after all, it's natural that it would attract some roleplayers.
lol have u ever done that quests in L2?
Yes, I've done most of the quests in L2 which is why I noted that there should be more of a focus on questing, roleplaying, AND events. The fact that most of the L2 quests are quite boring doesn't mean there aren't people that are interested in the PvE aspects of the game. There are plenty of people that just aren't interested in PvP and I don't think telling them to deal with it or find another game is the answer. We should be accomodating for these people. You could easily implement a few more involving quests or roleplay dynamics (make the L2 storyline matter on this server) in a roleplay server. You could also host extra events and competitions for the roleplay server to compensate for the lack of interesting and/or involving questing content.
You do realize, don't you, that role play does not mean hatred of PvP?
Did I say that PvP should be eliminated in the roleplay server? Read the post... I said that there are several ways to handle PvP, but in the end, it should be optional. Things such as requesting a duel or limiting PvP to Clan Wars or something like that keeps PvP in the game, but leaves it at the discretion of the player. There are actually players out there that don't like to be ganked and PKed... =/

Well this "1 Non-PvP Roleplaying Server." is what I read. How did I missread it?
Im confident that we will get a relax server one day, just not right now... I cant tell ya how far the line but i belive it will happen. Perhaps there are waiting for a bigger populus before they do that...

One thing, not so good, could result from having one right now, alot of the servers population would probably move to it, leaving the other servers Crippled.

Cheers!!

I am going to sound like a mean-spirited jerk when I post this. I apologize in advance. I say the following with all due respect:

Ok, so you, for whatever reason elected to stop playing the game back whenever you made that decision (or were forced to, or were called to active duty, etc etc etc).

Now here you show up, on some random February Wednesday and want NCSoft to roll out with a new server for you and your fellow newbies/returners/rerollers.

Is this supposed to be a one-time deal just because you are special? Or is NCSoft supposed to roll out a new server with each new Chronicle? Every 6 months?

Ok, now I'm sorry that came off mean.

Look, My clanmates and I rerolled to a new server in the beginning of c2. And we didn't reroll to the new server Teon, or one of the last four servers. In fact we came from Gustin and rerolled on Sieghardt. When we showed up there were people all ready for Agrade, high level huge alliances, pkers, griefers the whole bit.

We stuck together and toughed it out. We are still well behind the curve, but the fact is, the farther you are behind, the faster you are able to catch up. The grind requirements for a 70 to catch a 75 match what it would probably take you to get to 50+.

So don't get disappointed that you aren't the top level guy on your server. Pay your dues, tough it out and and you'll get there.

Sorry but with stater towns as quiet as they already are and with added land mass to stretch out the server population that already exists, the last thing we need is a bunch of new servers.

No offense intended.

Ah, so I guess "Non-PvP" doesn't mean "Non-PvP". I'm not a role players so I guess that was my mistake.
I for one would gladly like to see another option such as relaxed server. With the xp lost due to ganking, pk's etc it's becoming a more and more attractive offer for me if they were to offer one. As far as I see it, people feel the need to get better and better armor, stats, tatoos etc..everything is geared toward being able to kill somebody else. I may be wrong but it seems everyone upgrades for this reason alone. To be able to "kill" that other person. I could go on and on with this post but suffice it to say, there are some of us who would like another option. I suppose if they offered that option, there would be no need for people to look for that option elsewhere in other online games. We'd have it all in Lineage.

You do realize that there are great ways to kill players without actually attacking them, right?
Welcome to Fantasy Island!
I reckon anouther server for europe would be good.
No relaxed
No RP
Just 1 normal server.
A new server would be ok. The starter areas have next to no mobs. Back in C1 and C2 there were loads of mobs Warlords heaven. Come C3 theres only 3 mobs in a room with 5 minute respawn time. I can understand why that is. But they should of known a new chronicle would increase server population. They havnt even increase mob populations.

No offense taken. ^^ Please allow me to explain myself because you seem to misunderstand my point.

I'm not asking for a server just because I'm coming back although the fact that I'm back is the reason I can post this on the forums (since I now have a forum account). As I've said, there are many people like myself that have left for various reasons. My personal reason at the time was lack of finances to pay for the game. But others may have left for other reasons. Regardless of this, there are many that think about coming back and then realize how far ahead the rest of the server is. This has discouraged me from coming back for a while. In fact, I bought L2 again on impulse as I passed by the video game store. I personally know at least 30 people that have quit and don't want to come back or don't want to start at all because they'd have to play catch up. Also realize that many of the current and older players leveled under much different circumstances than players now starting. Frankly, I found it extremely frustrating that SoDa had like 9 mobs in it with some ridiculous respawn time... But I digress.

The point is, I'm sure these people I know aren't the only ones that feel this way. There are probably plenty of people out there that are wanting to start the game or come back to the game, but at the same time don't want to play catch up. It's natural and it's not like this is Diablo 2 where you could just get a character rushed. Granted, you could run a bot-train or AFK bot your levels, but that's just stupid and risks getting you banned. I'm not saying that it's impossible to catch up because given enough months, it's possible to contend with the top players. It's just that it's very unappealing for many people to start paying $15 a month to level hardcore and grind for a few months before you can be competetive at all, you know? It's been a long time since Teon came out. And yes, I do believe that NCSoft should release a new server once in a while because it encourages new players to play. I can guarantee that the opening of a new server now would have a totally different feel from what it was like when the current servers opened in OB. It's a different game now and I think it'd be nice if people could have a fresh start.

Also, with all due respect, it's a bit different rerolling on a server with a bunch of friends which is what you did and rerolling on a server where you don't know anyone, which is what I'm doing. More often than not, I'm finding myself grinding in empty fields alone and without buffs. Not that I personally have a problem with it because once I get into my zone, I really don't mind, but for many newer players, it's a really lame experience that just turns you off... I know I'll be fine on Sieg and given time, I'll meet people and develop connections and I'm not really "disappointed" in the fact that I'm not a top player because well... I knew what I was getting into when I paid for the game yesterday. I'm just saying that I think it'd be good for the game and the community in the sense that it would provide some incentive for people to reactivate their accounts or start the game for the first time.
Thanks for the reply AkiruS!

I completely understand where you are coming from. I was a bit agitated at the time of my first reply (outside forces at work) and I'm glad you aren't taking what I said as a personal slight.

Here is the issue, however. While I can see your frustration, appreciate that sense of discouragement at the thought of being so far behind the curve, I don't believe more servers are going to improve the game.

I think NCS got the idea of your post when they released Chronicle 3 and added all the newbie bonuses. It was designed specifically to help new players acclimate themselves more easily in the L2 world.

I am of the opinion that new servers (periodically or by demand) that don't serve a particular function (ie. time-zone friendly, relaxed, hardcore) only firther stretch out the player base.

But it's cool, I respect your reply and attitude (even though my initial one was crappy) and if The Equalizers can be of any assistance in game, contact me on PameanWraith in game.

See you soon.

I 100% agree!!!

I've never understood players yelling for new servers so that they can have an even playing field. That just doesn't work as you will always get players coming in at different times and they can't all be accomodated with new servers. Also... let's say you have 100 players yelling for new servers, it doesn't mean that other players are going to leave their lvl 1000 Deathmaker with the Kung-fu grip in order to start over again.

The only way that would happen is if the new server offered something 'new'. A new experience, better siege times etc.
GIVE NORTH AMERICA LUNA!

we deserve it.

Teon kind of proved that people will move to a new server just for a fresh start. There were alot of European players that moved there but there are alot of American players from other servers that went there because it was a fresh start as well.

Playing from the launch of a server is a huge competitive advantage due to the design of the game. If the game had reasonable level caps or closely distributed XP walls it wouldn't be so detrimental to new players. The game was designed to penalize new players and reward players that started earlier. The game isn't a meritocracy despite what many claim. Its all about who puts the most time in and starting earlier on that grind is obviously beneficial.

So based on the argument of 'I'd really like an even playing field', they'll never get a new server. The game isn't designed about being fair or rewarding skill. Its all about time investment.

Exactly.

Of course there are people who would move for a "fresh start" but will they again be faced with the same situation where they are "behind the curve" because of more hardcore people and therefore require "another fresh start"?

Interesting point there. It would make sense to repopulate the lower levels with mobs and not implement any of the high end stuff when you start a new server up.
Then after a few months, you can make it a full C4 server.
NO NO NO well ok to non pvp server. but seriously if servers are getting so filled up ncsoft needs to arange a way where players can swap servers. This would revitalize some of the low population servers and relieve some of the over crowded ones. Also if a non pvp server was made and put into the loop then lowbies could go there to level till they were competeable with others in the pvp servers also all the farmers would go there and stop harassing everyone on the main servers lol

so many threads on this in the past week...

actually it states mmorpg RPG stands for roleplaying game. I have the original box on my desk lol. Beleive it or not there are those of us who actually do rp and would love to transfer our chars to a roleplay server. We spent so much time building and crafting them, molding the story and working hard on them to just let them disapear.
