Why am I writing this journal?
Just to share the ups and downs of a new player in Sieghardt. These are all personal accounts and may not be typical for all players ... :)
:p Griefed? Yes, Trained and died? Yes. Deleveled? Yes multiple times I am sad to report. Lost dropped items? Yes. Gone on raids? Yes, low level, three times, not one was sucessful. Got nothing out of them. I was lucky not to loose anything from them either.
I went from paranoid at the beginning to having a good time, then having a tough time with the economy and well, as you go out of the newbie towns, PvP is common too, particularly people who try to provoke you.
My personal observation, the game seems easy in the beginning, but it has a lot of negative consequences to many things you may do.. so you have to be careful and make good friends. I have had to rely on friends a lot to actually enjoy the game and I would not have stuck with the game if not for the friends I have made.
Some who had just the simple kindness of accepting me in a grind group when solo grind can be so boring. Ultimately I think I end up going for the risky things to keep myself entertained when I solo and that is when I die. You get it!
You left out the part where you met me in all my dashing heroicness in Elven Village to alert me of Lowbie griefers, some of whom made the unfortunate mistake of trying to grief my wife's alt.
Getting trained, griefed, etc is almost unavoidable in this game. It's sad to hear it happening to new players though. It doesn't exactly encourage them to continue playing.
I'm glad you've found friends to help you out. My reroll is 28 now and so far the areas I've been to have been mostly populated by griefers, botters and farmers. I know it gets better higher up though so stick with it :)
heh, I had a guy try to train my Overlord reroll, he met my A grade retired SK. A few days later I was looking for an area in Branded to grind my OL at, I was on my level 51 Warsmith because he can take a couple of rooms of mobs pounding on him and I could use the XP I gained from checking the back rooms for a XP spot for my OL. There was a guy in there training people too. He was using fake death to transfer agro, I came upon him as he was training two other people, I taught him that you cannot use fakedeath when someone is attacking you :) another dead griefer; then I helped to kill the train of mobs that he had pulled - and I did find a sweet spot without much traffic for XP though I'll out level it by tomorrow :(
Sorry to hear that you had such a hard time starting, but glad you have found friends to help you out.
I know how you feel, thats one of the reason I quit back in /04 but have since come back.
I have only had a few cases of griefers since I have come back, which I just brush off hehe the worst was when I was doing /unstuck and got pk lol I could even heal heheh
Glad to have you aboard :)
Yes, the best way to go is join a clan and work with it, and for it. Work for the common good, while trying also to improve the personal situation.
I joined a level 0 clan. I actually did not think it would last when i joined it and I was at a point I thought I might quit the game, i was very frustrated with it. The clan prospered. We got new members, inactives were quicked out. We have an ally, got to level 1 so we can use a clan warhouse (where I deposit all my mats for the clan crafter)... and I have learned as I go with friends. Only way to enjoy this game for me. Otherwise I would have left in frustration long ago.
I am not saying go start a level 0 clan right away to new players, bc it is not easy believe it... but just working in a group is more effective than solo and more rewarding at least for me. A more established clan can probably aid you better, and who knows? probably faster... But, also the benefit of a low level clan is to party with people around your level and feel you belong to something and you can contribute and help as well.
