Regarding dead pets system

Game Suggestions Started Last reply 28 posts
The other day one of my other chars on one of my accounts lost its pet since my internet provider suddenly decided to do a maintenance for one our.

During a fight, I was a bit over spawned and my pet died. I run away trying to survive and suddenly I was disconnected. I tried to log on again but realized that it was my internet provider who did not get me any net at that time. Apparently the pet was still in the game during my disconnect.

One hour later I logged in and my pet was gone.

*This story is a fake but could be true

Now I wonder who’s fault it was that my pet actually died and disappeared?
Was it my fault? Was it my internet providers fault or is it the game designers/developers fault?

Who on NCSoft actually came to this bright idea to actually dismiss the players from his ability to keep his pet during such circumstances?
One can hardly have control over how the internet providers decide to deliver internet availability. But surely you will be punished for it.

What kind of a game is it if outer game incidents like this influence the outcome of your gaming? What kind of game design is that?

How to fix this design flaw
If pet is dead and you disconnect, the pet also disconnect and keeps it 0 HP state until it is resurrected.
The 20 minutes “pet existing after death time” will elapse when the total logon time exceeds 20 minutes since the pet died.
During its 0 HP state it can’t be controlled in anyway.
Much better then the way it is now. I cant even imagine what it would be like to loose a Strider or something that you leveled for months. Its bad enough you can drop them on death, nevermind losing it because your internet went down. Screw that
Petition.

Petition.

Which is a waste of a GM's time, when it makes more since to leave it as 20 logged in minutes (or however long it is).

Read the general forums. HGMSpam came on and said to petition for it.
Don't ask me where I got this information, since I just remember having read it somewhere... I think on these forums..

One guy used a 'free 0% xp rez' for his pet.. Pet dies, log out, wait a sec for the pet to disappear also. Log back in. Pet collar is in your inventory & can be resummoned.
Yea but I tried this on a wolf and its just the way it is. You loose the pet if you disconnect while its dead.

This is something they must fix because I pretty often level my strider and If I loose ite because of a reason like this, I quit the game.

This situation happened to me. It wasn't scheduled maintenance of my ISP, was middle of the night actually. I just couldn't log back on. Yay Verizon!

I petitioned. I was denied.

They even take the stuff out of your inventory that the wolf had before it died. And they don't even say sympathy for the loss of your pet.
Youre ISP would be required to inform you of matiance work ahead of time.
I was doing a Sin Eater and it got pked, I chased him down, not
thinking about my cute little sin eater and ended up not being able
to find him again :(
So I relogged and as I got back in *voila* there was my little cutie
again, full XP loss, but still in its collar.

(Though it was C3 not C4)

look (http://www.lineage2.com/news/chronicle4_11.html)

i tried it in C3 havent in C4
From the official Pets section

1)If the pet owner restarts when the pet is alive, it will immediately return to its control item. But if the pet owner restarts when the pet is dead, the pet will not instantly return to the control item. The dead pet will remain in corpse state for 20 minutes, and then disappear along with the control item. If the pet is dead and less than 20 minutes has elapsed when the pet owner exits the game, the pet will not return to the control item; and upon logging in again the pet will still be dead with no HP.

2) If the server goes down while the pet is dead, the pet will be unconditionally returned to the control item. If the pet is re-summoned it will appear with an HP of 0.

However this system still does provide a very harsh system that does not cover all sitiatons

Take the example today of a party rescue that was organised to get to a group that experinced a full party whipe.
It took 10-20min to round up enough people then an equal amount of time to get to them.

The system is very hard unnecessarily.. Why not treat it like a normal death..its dead until rezed.period!
Maybe it was if it was hungry and there's no food... ><

Don't remember exactly.

MUAHAHAHA. Are you serious?

I work for one, very large, Nation-wide ISP and guess what, you(our customers) get zero, zip, nada, nill in terms of notice.

Required. ROFL.

When you call us and complain about the Notification of the whatever planned outage, we say: All Your Base Are Belong To Us. (not verbetum, but close enough).

... you feeling proud for this ?
For sure will be the truth but isn't too good for customers know that.
I've suffered this problem of nightly maintenance, and while I'm not saying whatever is going on now is right -- I know that the best way to protect meself is to not rely on meself to get things done.

Ye see, I've access to a dial-in account through the university, so if I lose connection through broadband, I can always go through UH.

While I know this advice comes in too late - and I know that I'd be devestated too if I lost me wolves *permanently* due to an ISP issue... I'm throwing this out anyway in case it helps someone out of this problem.

EDIT: Still though, I would like to see a less harsh penalty when it comes to pets. Perhaps after 20min the pet goes deeper into the void, and it requires an NPC priest and 2 million adena to bring her back from limbo.

Proud?
It is Irrelevant how I feel about this.
I assure you, there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.
I dont care actually about the ISPs, they should be able to do quick maintenance without having to notify the customers. Leave that discussion because your internet can go and die because of other reasons too.

It’s NCSoft that should design the game so our IN-GAME concerns are protected from OUTER-GAME accidents. As long as we play the game in a normal predictable way, playing the game as we are supposed to play it, we should be able to feel secure.

If someone are stupid enough to like drop an item on the ground and that person gets a disconnect, don’t come wining, what normal person do a thing like that?? But leveling your pet is a normal thing to do.
I suspect with verizon that even they have no idea when 'maintenance' will happen.

The devs will make it so you can't drop your main weapon. But they go out of their way to put in the potential for catastrophic loss on pets. I think it's a poor design. much worse than 'random maintenance'
The design seem to keep the pet in the game even if the pet owner crashes or disconnects, thats why the pet dies. However, it seem possible for other players to rez the pet even if the owner dont agree.

/confirm please
Don't think so Croohm. Even if someone tried to rez yer pet while yer disconnected, ye'd still have to acknowledge the attempt.

Of course... if ye run to someone else's house and log in from their connection, that'd work too. :D
I ressed my friends hatch with blessed res for pets and we where not even in party.
In C4 you needn't be in the same party to rez. But the receiver must click a confirm-to-rez button (that doesn't even tell you what kind of rez you're accepting).

Good call Wyze. :D
ans I can state for a fact that if a pet is dead on the ground, and the player is disconnected (which I saw happen last night in HV), you can't rez the poor little thing. you can't even make the attempt, it says conditions aren't suitable or something like that.
So it happends finally :(
Last night one of my 2 new friends (irl) that just started L2 a few month ago, quit L2 since his wolf disapeard. My other friend will most lightly quit too since they always played their wolfs together :(

Thats all for NCSoft new customers.. and my friends :(

Nope, pet stays and dissolves while you are gone. Lost my cute little lvl 48 cougar that way. Petitioned and got the thats the way the game works reply. I am sure it is but did not make it feel any better. :p
