Skills: Selectable masteries

Game Suggestions Started Last reply 9 posts
I think it would make an interesting side in the game if say every skill set in levels we got to choose from a list of masteries that we normally do not get. For example a mage could get a skill mastery in daggers or blunts if they wanted. Or a tank pick up a skill in dual weild. could be kinda of neat and since we would only get 1 mastery every set it would never get close to the same level as someone with that skill normally, but would still make the player somewhat competent with the weapon or armor for pve.
Nice idea.
However I doubt anyone will elect work with the weapon they are somewhat competent with over the weapon that is best suited to their class.
many people will find this usefull. I know mages will like haveing some masteries in swords or blunts to be able to hit for a bit more. I know I as a tank who carries a bow would love to have a few bow masteries. And I know for a fact dwarves will LOVE to have access to shield masteries finally
i would love it, then finaly i could use a 2h sword with my SH.. it just lookes so good
Sounds good to me.. only problem is that a SH using a 2 handed sword will not have great armor and will die the death of failure.

Quite frankly, anything that can differentiate on player from another is a good thing.
Sure, let me have bow masteries with my rage+frenzy ;)
I have suggested this very thing in another thread. The game lacks individuality. 90% of each class have the same exact set up. A mage puts on this type robe and uses this type weapon ect.

Let there be common masteries like bow skills and melee weapon skills. No, you can never reach the 2 handed mastery of a Destroyer with a mage, but you can make some pretty cool set ups that would surprise alot of players in pvp. Take for example an Orc with bow skills. Lets face it, Orcs in the fantasy would could use bows. They were good archers but not great like the elves. Why not give an Orc a chance to choose some basic bow skills and work the armor set bonus' plus tatoos to into something workable.

Quest system can be used to gain a skill. Another can be used to advance this skill like taking a bow mastery and gaining some distance on it by completeing the quest. Again, the Orc will not quite have the range, accuracy or speed of a elf but with armor sets and tatoos can make themselves a nice little "different" character.

What I see is players not knowing exactly how the enemy is set up. You look at a tank yet he can pull out a bow and actually be competitive with an archer. Same goes the other way round, an archer gets crippled and can't run, melee closes in and the archer pulls out a 2 hander and starts wacking away with it. It would make the game have so much more variety. Armor masteries could be trained up too by quest.

Something simple like adding color choice to armor selection would go a long way in making the game have more variety. The quest system is crap IMHO, this gives it some life and reason.

The game is a long grind to get levels to compete with other players. The higher the level and better the equipment determines the outcome, in most cases. Skill, yes it is a factor to a point. What we need is other things to do in the game, quests to perform with good rewards and variety in character with actual individual development. These will never happen of course but it is fun to dream. :)
For the caster-types, I think we get the best boost from our generic weapon-mastery levels. The only weapon type that would be advantageous would be pole, just to bypass the C4 nerf.
thats very true, but im not a power player in the remark, i rather play a char that is the way i want instead of the best one so its no problem for me ;)
