I was confused to see my girlfriend who play an archer tank as good as me. I was equipped with a full wooden armor and a skull shield , i bought all the defense skill i could and yet , i was tanking bad as her.
I just found out when i removed my shield , my p.def didnt move but when i remove a piece of armor , my p.def going down. why does my shield dont give the armor bonus?
Ok. Im gonna guess yur new to L2. Sooo WELCOME! Anyways. Im assuming you are both less than lvl 20 and have not completed the first class transfer. The reason you both tank the same even tho she is an archer is because you both have the same level of skill in each area of expertise so in a way you both can do anything the other can. You dont really need to focus on tanking and such until after you have completed your second class tarnsfer. And about the Shield. The shield has a standard rate of blocking and has nothing to do with your P.def. Hope that helps. :) GOODLUCK!
under lvl 20, all human fighters have the same skills. A lvl 5 human fighter will tank as well as a lvl 5 ... human fighter. Once you hit 20, and you do your knight quest and she does her rogue quest, you will be a better tank, becuase you get heavy armor masteries and will be wearing armor with higher pdef. As for the shield, the pdef of the shield is added to your pdef when you block, thus lessening the dmg you recieve. As a knight, you will get shield masteries which help increase your shield block rate. Good luck!
yeah, shield masteries get good at lvl 40, and only get better. Wait till you start getting excellent shield defense's. On a excellent shield defense you only take 1 dmg!
At lower lvls (below 40) you really don't block that often either, but later on shield block A LOT and for a lot of damage
i'm pretty sure this only applies to human knight coz i lvled all 3 knights and human block the least. palus knight and elven knight have pretty decent block rate. if you're talking about high lvl and anything less than 80% equal suxxors than i have no comment lol
the reason that Sk and TK as yhou said "shield block more" i s becous of ther high Dex stats, however the human tank is still the best IMO :p
Edit: in higher lv raids, i rather have a Paladin to hold aggro instead of a SK or TK. why?? The reason: Paladin has the best Con stats, and for some strange reason it seems like the Palas hate/hate aura is better then the others (could be my imagination) and the low DEX can be compensated with a -4STR +4 Dex tatoo

I agree, Paladins are the best raid tank overall. But about shield block rate. I think there is a racial bonus on this that we don't see (like run speed on LE). Because the few experienced TKs i have played with say they block pretty much every hit and crit block OFTEN, but when I ask Paladins and DAs how well they block they say its so-so. Of course there is always the difference in opinion as to what is block well and what is not but from what I hear it seems shield block rate is much better on TKs than other tanks including SKs.
