I'm new to Lineage II and it was a minor shock for me to see that the alternatives for creating a character were so... few.
C'mon it's been 4 "expansions" and the developers haven't corrected this, what i would like to call, major problem.
MMO is all about yer character, at least give us a big selection of faces, haircuts, colors + alternate bodies.
Pretty plz ; ;
There is a compromise between quality and quantity - Lineage II looks unvaried but good. Some new hairstyles and one new face for each race have been added in Chronicle 2.
More would be nice, but I really don't see it as much of a problem - I'd rather they keep them up to the quality they have now rather than going shugly.
I've been playing for several hours now and im kinad with ya. You cant tell that many characters look the same, cuz they actually dont, and especielly not when wearing different armors.
But i still think they should update it, wouldnt be too much work for em :)
yeah I think the thing is, that (at least for me) Im usually zoomed out too far to even see peoples faces. I notice hair a bit more, but Im not clammering for them to add more. Really armor is a big distinguisher. But once you get pretty high up, its pretty much everyone in your same class has the same armor and weapons. So really I just hope they add more armor sets (useful ones!!) So many pointless mid grade armors.

I think the issue is that it is a non-issue for the korean players as they don't seem to be interested in multiple ways to differentiate the characters.
However... there have been new items added in C4 such as eyepatches, ears of a variety of sorts, etc to help with making your character "your own".
I dont think we need more options, at least not in a sence that we need an overhaul as the options we do have a very, very good compared to many other games. LineageII has some of the best looking characters for any of the games on the market today. So maybe for C-5 they can do a a few things but i wouldnt even think someone needed to suggest this as an option.
It just shows maybe you picked the wrong game to play if your not satifyed with how the toons look. ?
indeed.... a helmet option and boom... even harder to tell if everyone looks the same. plus... it makes the helmet look like it's not just in your invetory instead of on your head....
Ever played city of heroes. I have to admit that creating new and bizarre outfits for my heroes was as much fun as playing them. Of course this woulsnt work for Li2 where people buy armor to give them some protection and armor well is just that. Chain is chain.
The new head accesoires is a good thing. You can have an unadorned head, or a party mask, a couple of funny ears, jewellery, a monocle, eyepatches. That will seriously help making peoiple look more different. But as always, it comes with a price. Only the rich and famous can afford it.
I'll clue you in then, the OP is talking about character creation NOT accessories for after you log into the game.
Helmets and stuff is still good, as now there is much varriety in the game, but OP was wanting more options during character creation he wants fat people options and talller dwarfs options and more hairs styles and stuff i stated above that we really have no urgent need of getting these things as lineageII has decent options to begin with, but im not opposed to getting more stuff.
Not when you compare it to most any other MMOG on the market, they don't. Many others use, at least, a 16-hue palette, if not 32 or even more. A couple others use the full 256k colour palette for hair and eye colour. EQ2 even allows you to change your height, weight (within limits), not to mention your facial structure and whether or not you have tattoos.
It's not rocket science, nor is it re-inventing the wheel. It's just pure laziness on the part of the game designers.
I agree with malineII, who gives a shiit about faces, hair color and such. Honestly I think accessories DO make up for this VERY small and insignificant shortcoming in this game. Even in games that have insane amounts of customization you typically still see most of the same people. I played Phantasy Star Online for years before I started playing L2 and that game had lots of custumization options for faces, body proportions and such and you still noticed many picked a lot of the same things because they just looked cooler and young kids tend to be influenced easily into picking certain attributes over others. Most people in PSO had tall, large shouldered males and almost all females had their breasts to the largest setting and most were mid range for hieght. There really wasn't that many different looking toons running yet the options were there. There were also a ridiculous amount of weapons and armor in that game (puts L2's weapons and armor amounts to shame) yet you still saw people using the same old weapons
I give a shiit :)
But I agree with you. For humans, orcs and dark elves, I have one face/hairstyle that makes me go "omg I want this look!" (all female chars. I don't play male). And I always choose the same face and hair. But who knows, with other options, I might choose something different for once. Dwarven girls have a few hair styles I really like (two actually) but I'm not crazy about either of their faces. More variation there would be nice. And I wouldn't mind if all races had more to choose from. Other people might not notice, but who cares about other people, really?

/Agree ....... Until
siege comes.
imagine your computer trying to show small customization as it is now in a siege is really 'laggy' as it is now. Then imagine showing diferent faces, armors & weapons more with 100+ persons playing in a same place. it would be unbearable.
just because you want to be unique in the game doesnt mean you could have not notice the outcome of some ideas.
They should add hair colors ; at least 5 of them; hair styles are good and varied; it's not my or your fault pretty much everyone just throws together default appereances and then complain everyone looks the same.
And how come male and female mages get dark hair color and male fighters don't??
We have S grade and end game content now, I suspect c5-c6 will have to do more with filling in content such as more weapons/armor and selections. But we will just have to see.

Who doesnt switch to Low Detail for seiges?
Video-based lag solved... or get a 256MB card, and you don't see that sort of issue.

If you're running this game with less than 256mb graphics, you're dead wrong! This game is absolutely gorgeous when 'cranked up' all the way, and if you're just trying to skate by with 128mb, then shame on you. =P
But that's neither here nor there. I definitely agree with the OP on this one: L2 *needs* more character customization at startup. Half the fun of an MMO is having a character that's uniquely 'your own', and frankly, it just looks weird with all the characters of same race/gender having the same skin tone.
As for performance, with a decent gfx card, I don't see what the issue would be. L2 has HUNDREDS of different looking models in the game, from pixies to treants to players to guards to pets. I *seriously* doubt there would be a huge performance crash if a few more options were added.
And I think anyone who is supposedly against more customization is straight silly, though that may be a snipe. I mean, seriously, who wouldn't utilize more customization if it was available?
