Is it dangerous to use an voice-2-voice program?

Let us think about this:
If you were reported by someone, let us say an enemy you fought in pvp and he reported you for no reasons just to have fun. Than maybe, who knows, a GM maybe take a look into your logfiles and what will he find? Nothing, cause you didn't used your chat since hours. What now can happen is that the GM comes to the conclution that you are using a third-party program cause you didn't said a word in chat since so long time, but still handling hairry mob-situitons.
So is voice-to-voice a third-party program?
It can be dangerous to use a voice-to-voice program meanwhile you are under investigation of an GM, cause you never know when it is so and to what conclution the GM will come.

So it's an important question, are the chat logs one criterion of banning people?
If they are what does it mean than for V-2-V programs?

Since friends of my alliance are banned I am afraid to get banned also. Some may say you will not be banned if you didn't made something wrong, but I am not sure anymore.
It seems banning can happen, when ever, where ever and there's nothing you can do, cause you can't show you didn't do anthing wrong. Makes me ask who's next?

That's not theoretical, I know people who got banned cause they didn't said a word since hours in chat. That was the argument of NCSoft.
As far as I understand, things like Team Speak and Vetrillo do not interface with Lineage 2 directly. There is no way GM's can pick up on it. Everyone or just about everyone is using those things these days anyway.

Also things like Fraps even though it is a 3rd program, no one cares about it.

Only 3rd party programs that can get you messed up are the w*****s. Even still, I doubt GM's are able to see or sence if you have those. But if you fail to pass their Automated tests that's when there's a problem.

Just in case you're wondering,NO, I don't use any such programs myself but I do have a very good idea how they work. Also NCSoft nor any company out there can initiate a scan on your computer to actually check if you have any questionable programs and relay it back to them. If they do then it's a major violation on their part, lets call it Hacking/Rootkitting. (Back Orifice anyone? That was a fun little app :p )
Playing Lineage 2 can get u banned.
That's a fact for sure, and I bet about 10 people on my server
got banned for playing Lineage 2. Before they got banned I
would have said that the support deals with what they do before
they do it, but at this point everything might get you banned...

Usually they talk to you before they ban you, but noone really
knows the procedure and so noone can really tell if voice-chat
can get u banned or not.
So are you saying you can get banned for playing L2 in a windowed mode and using AIM to communicate with your party members?

That would be absurd. Team Speak is not much different from AIM when taken a bit out of context.
The question came into beeing cause one of the NC arguments are, that one didn't use his chats since a long time.
I realy hope NC can't controll or read my computer... but I still mistrust in GG.

@Bluthusten
A regular question of me is who controlls the controllers?
Sure you don't know and that for good reasosn, what test they run. But I don't believe they are infallible like the pope.
And copy-and-past messages aren't any good partner for comunications if things went wrong. So how can one show them that they are wrong?

The question came into beeing cause one of the NC arguments are, that one didn't use his chats since a long time.

How do you know that was their argument for the bannings?
Last time I checked, they repeatedly said they will NOT share that kind of information with anyone except the person in question.

There must have been something else that went on to get ban. Not using the chat system for a long time is surely not the reason.

On a side note, If NCsoft wanted to get **** about things, they could simply say that Half or more of the things people have on their computers(that would actually include everyone with a Computer) that they have somekind of a 3rd party program on the system that may be a cause for ban.

But I don't believe they are infallible like the pope

The pope is "infallible"? Last time I checked, he's still human so that's wrong there as well. :p

Let's just say: Welcome to Support Anarchy...

And it's just like, they can ban u whenever they want to and for
whatever they want to, you can't prove them wrong in their insults.
All you can do is pretend you didn't do whatever they accuse you with...
The controlers are controlled by HGMSpam and HGMSpam is reporting to RustNC, if I am not mistaken. RustNC prolly got some superiors as well, altough I doubt, that they care about in game problems, as long as the total subscriber-numbers are not suddenly dropping.

I am well known for hating all kinds of cheating, and I will happily agree to every cheater being banned, but....

Humans make mistakes. That is a fact. Automated processes do even more mistakes, as they cannot apply a sufficiently detailed search pattern.
So if this banned party was not doing anything wrong at all (and to all hypocrits: Yes, there are players in lvl 70+ that are not breaking any rules), then there got to be a reasonable way to get out of this mess.

I dunno where the "did not communicate"-information comes from. Right now, my char is online, sitting in Giran. The computer, which is running the account is about 10.000m away from me at this time, but my char is not doing anything but sitting on her cute little dwarven ***, running a shop.
However, if anyone would try to speak to me, I would obviously not answer.

Well, that is likely not a problem. Shops should be safe. But when I go out hunting, and I got downtime, then I will often go AFK. I run L2 in windowed mode and will switch to either these or the german forums when I know, that I got a 5-10 mins break. Other times I will play with my cats or do anything else, but I sure as hell will not watch the HP bar growing.
Now if I would bet any GM interference in that time, I would not notice until after I return to the screen.. Yet again, I did not do anything wrong, as I my char was only sitting on her ***, looking cute as ever.

Would that constitute a problematic behaviour ?

Problematic Kitten
No its not about always beeing at your PC, it is about always being
at your PC when your char is doing actions.

So if your character runs around, slays mobs and picks up items,
and you don't react, you are "playing afk".

[Edit ...**** mistakes]
Even though I actually think nothing is beyond NCSoft NA at this point, aside from actually doing something right, I doubt they ban people just because they didn't chat for some hours.

Usually you do say 'Hi' in shout or local a few times while playing anyway, or PM a friend who just entered. Though even if you don't type a single digit for hours, that's hardly any proof or reason for a ban. Lots of people use Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Skype or whatever. Those can hardly be called third party programs in the sense of the word since there is no voice chat implemented in L2 that they replace, nor do they interact with L2 in any way at all (aside from nabbing a bit of bandwidth).

Whatever got someone banned, it wasn't just the not typing for hours but that could have been a piece that fit the picture. ;)

Yup, it would be really weird if you are actively playing and a GM in form of, say, Zaken pops up next to you and PMs "Y HARLO THAR!" and you don't react at all. :D
Pretty obvious, that. ;)
@Schmusekatze
You made a very good point as ever.
"Kitten-fan"

Saying the pope is infallible was ironic! Thought that was clear? :p

I worked in the beta-test section for an software company and I know how bug-reports or services works. The offical in charge giving informations to others by using checklists, which are signed by them. Those checklist haveing a high grade of stadarization and the chief has to trust the checklist and the offical in charge that they did their job well. This shall lower costs and time and is normal for all kinds of companys.

In this matter it's much more important to ask how a customer can break the circule of standarization and get a chance of beeing rechecked?
Im pretty sure if GMs were that strict, where they could mistake someone talking on chat for botting...then ALL bots would be gone!

No, they probally won't ban you. If they do...the better give back the account...plus bot parties are SO **** EASY to spot, that if you can play like a bot party with characters so close togeather and moving like a flight squade you are indeed crazy!

The illegal 3rd party programs are once that interact with the actual l2 server. Since TS and Vent don't they don't matter. You are actually not using it 'with' lineage...since TS and Vent use their own thing completely seperate from L2. For example someone can still be on TS without playing L2.

FRAPS is the exact same thing. It isn't a 3rd party program for L2. It is movie capture software, that runs completely without interaction with the L2 servers.

The only 3rd party programs are those that are either installed directly to the l2 client to modify it, or replace the L2 client and still connect to the server. The 3rd party programs NCsoft is actually concerned (if they are) are only ones that actually interact with the game servers and l2 client.
I really dont wanted to sound like a doom-sayer in this thread.

I just wanted to point out that whatever is done, may be final.

All you can do, is stay low, mail the support, explain the situation
(they tell you why you got banned in the final mail) and ask to
reopen your account.

That's all you can do, no kind of petition or angry forum posts
will make them act faster, it may only arouse their suspicion...
You are not banned for not using in-game chat in game.
You might e banned for not answering GM investigating your behaviour.

That is, if you just don't use chat, it's all ok. Talk in vent/TS whatever you want, it's all ok. But if you turn off chats completely, and don't react on GM petition window, you are doing something wrong. People get banned for not answering GM requests in a first place, not for silence in chats.

Im pretty sure if GMs were that strict, where they could mistake someone talking on chat for botting...then ALL bots would be gone!

Indeed. If all they needed for a ban is for you to not use the chat for a while, then that would have been AWESOME.

Because there would have been no bots. Sadly, they don't check how often or rare you chat as there are bots everywhere.
To be honest, I don't have any doubt about the technics, but I heard the real bot programs doesn't interact with the L2 client.
Anyways doesn't matter and I don't want to spread out that topic.

But you're right if the "not-using-a-chat" would be any criterion the obviously bots would be gone.

Sometimes if a macro from a boxed char is running it's maybe looks like a bot too. To put Schmusekatzes argument into another context, you will not always watch the screen of your boxed char right? As I know boxing a char is nothing against the EULA, am I am right?

As I know boxing a char is nothing against the EULA, am I am right?

Yes. It is not illegal to own and play multiple accounts the same time.

Though it's hard to be 100% sure if a player is botting or not.
I heard of people that were browsing/doing homework/etc
while they were botting and so they could react on the GMs
and everything because there were some kind of alert sounds.

To be honest, I don't have any doubt about the technics, but I heard the real bot programs doesn't interact with the L2 client.

Lies! If they don't interract with L2, then how can they be ingame botting? They just don't need all that graphicy stuff :p

It's a moot point arguing about Especially these things on the forums. Contacting Support is the only way to deal when it comes to these kind of things as this thread will get locked / deleted in a heartbeat as soon as one of the mods sees it.

So far I know, bots are stand-alone programs...
They are, but that doesn't mean that they do not interract with the client/server.

They are, but that doesn't mean that they do not interract with the client/server.

I don't know for sure, but do they need parts of your client to
function? Or are they really stand-alone? If they need a running
client, there would be the point for NC to get them, but if they
are totally stand-alone, they only interact with the server, right?
@admiral_ju00 & Bluthusten

That's the reason I didn't want to spread out the topic of boting programs. I want to have a chance to discuss things like controlling cheaters and getting banned without closing this thread.

....they only interact with the server, right?

I have absolutely no desire to try one myself to know exactly how they work in L2. At the very least, yes. They interract with the Server.

You know, don't wanna get banned from the mmo that I like so much. :p

I want to have a chance to discuss things like controlling cheaters and getting banned without closing this thread.

Either way, even if no one would have responded to your thread, it would have still been locked down.

All the previous threads like this(your thread isn't/wasn't the only one to come up every now and then) were closed by mods with a note that went something along: "You're banned? take it out with the Support staff."
