I am about a week new to the game now, and I'm finding it pretty fustrating to continue playing. I finally made it to level 14 one night , and upon questing shortly after, another player kept killing me. Repeatedly. It was pretty obvious that he was an upper-class player, he had these neat robes that I never saw in my starting city stores and a pretty wild looking staff-thing. So, after dying to him (I tried running about twice with no success) some more, I ended up just logging out, and the night was a waste - I had lost a level and far more than I had earned that night.
Now, I suppose it's my own stupid fault for not looking into the game beforehand and realizing "hey, this game has PvP, idiot" - all the pretty enviroments and art were enough to get me to play. But is there any non-PvP server, or a way to just go around my problem? Or does anyone have a suggestion / tip to escape faster? I'd hate to just let the two months I got off of my game card go to waste.
I'd appreciate any help in this matter, and thank you for your time!
My first suggestion would be to open up a dialog with this player, maybe you two can come to an understanding.
Was this other players name red? If he wasn't.. Don't fight back!
If he was white and he hit you so he flagged purple and you hit him back and also flagged purple you both are set to duke it out.
If he was white then hit you and flagged purple if you don't hit him back and stay white and he kills you he flags himself red and becomes chaotic and a target for any town npcs or other players.
If a player keeps following you around and looks to be much higher lvl then you, its called griefing and you can do something about this, many players wil help you if they no its happening.
Make a post on your servers forums and ask for help, give them the players name and tell them what happend and you are not trying to start trouble you just want to lvl up and have a chance to start playing/learning the game.
I'll tell you the long story about griefers and PKers-- especially at new player areas (all areas below 20), there are people who make their own characters just for the sake of killing other people. Why? To let off steam, but mostly just because they can (and because PKers a pathological sadists <3). Why PK people your level when you can PK new players, who can't fight back?
Here's the thing-- once you get past level 20, and start moving into areas such as Gludio and Dion, you start seeing a lot less PKers. And I mean A LOT less. Gludin and Talking Island are notorious for having PKers.
I've been PKed 5 or 6 times-- once because I annoyed a clanny (you know guild love ^.^), the other two times because my friend accidentally targeted me with a spell instead of her enemy, and the remaining 3 or 4 times happened before level 15 by a well known PKer.
PKing simply doesn't happen at higher levels-- the only time I see people PK other people past level 30 is because of political status.
When you reach 20, join a good clan that is hopefully in a powerful alliance. You will find much protection-- random PKers are less likely to target tagged people, because they don't want an a certain alliance tailing them 24/7.
There are a lot less pkers in Gludin. Once you reach between 15-20, you should make your way there. Most times there are more high level players hangin around Gludin to hunt red players. If you see a red player, just shout in channel and you will see people come running.
I know it gets frustrating but stick it out. xp is real easy to come buy at your lvl and loosing lvls doesn't hurt that much. It just makes you mad because you can't do anything about it, unfortunatley its considered part of the game. When someone start griefing you shout about it. If knowone answers go to town and try talking with the person.
make friends in game with as many people as you can the more people you know the better. You never know that other lvl 10 or 15 newb you know may be an alt of some one who has a high lvl main who in turn would be happy to go kill the guy you got to go red on you.
Who you know ingame on your server will have alot to do with how successful you will be as you grow in game. Trust me this game is about grouping and clans and alliances. Its possible to solo your way to the top but it will take a tremendous amount of luck and hard work to do it. Much easier to make friends plus the grind isnt as bad when you have friends to talk to while doing it.
One final bit of advise. Ready as much of these and other forums as you can you will find alot of invaluable information that will save you from alot of heart ache in the future.
What server are you on? If you are on mine I'd be happy to try to help you if I can.
Quite frankly how much you get PKed does have something to do with server. Also it depends a lot on your area. On my server Talking Island was a bad place for getting PKed. Also just outside of Gludin. Another really bad place is Execution Grounds but that's higher level. I don't know if those are places people pick on others on all servers but it happens on mine.
My boyfriend is constantly amazed that I love this game, since I don't PvP. I think it's difficult but very rewarding and although it's frustrating I've always been determined that those kinds of players aren't going to drive me out.
I bet by now the person that was fighting the OP is gone.
I'm curious if it was a red or someone who was getting the OP to flag back. I've run into a situation a couple times recently where someone in no-grade flags on you and as soon as you flag back they shield-stun you or silence. Yay +1 pvp point for them. :p
The good thing is, regardless how annoying it is, experience loss for teen-levels is easily regained when the pk/griefer is gone. And regardless, I always feel behind on SP, except when I've deliberately deleveled. (dwarves being an exception, having little to spend SP on)
Now, I suppose it's my own stupid fault for not looking into the game beforehand and realizing "hey, this game has PvP, idiot" - all the pretty enviroments and art were enough to get me to play.
I suppose that is true.
I came into this game thinking (knowing?) that there were going to be roving gank squads. It was the art design that got me to buy it but the idea was that I was going to play a week and then do something else.
I used to leave dark elf village and if anyone was running alongside me I would think that "now it comes". However... it never came.
Until one day some guy pk'ed me. I was so ****** I went out to find him and was able to exact revenge (I was only about lvl 7 or so).
But that was back in the day when there were more players around DEV.
For you, you have some options. Though being pk'ed happens less at higher lvls it still happens... usually for politcal reasons or if there is a more powerful clan who has an arrogant [censored] who feels he can do whatever he wants because his clan will back him up.
That is why getting into an equally powerful clan can help. Or you can use your "anger" to make yourself more powerful so that it will be harder in the future for others to do this.
In the end it is an open pvp game.
One thing you could have done was used the gatekeeper (or the event gatekeeper) to be ported to a different spot. The same thing happened to me once but I snuck around the back entrance and was able to evade him.
Though again... at lower levels it is easy to get the experience back so I wouldn't fret it.
Still.. now is the time to make a decision. You don't want to invest a lot of time and energy into a game that really isn't for you. Best to get out now if you feel that you don't want to play a completely open pvp game.
I'm only here for the sieges and the art design. If I ever found a game that allowed me to do that without having to deal with pvp on someone else's time frame I would go in a second.
L2 has a lot and the pvp is great but it isn't for everyone.
