Possible to make a melee oriented BD?

I like the sounds of a BD, and I know they are rockin support. Are they allowed to melee just a bit? I am leveling up a DE fighter and I am clueless what to spec. I am going sword/shield until 20, then duals after 20. What are some good skills to spec in?
well i see 70+ bd's solo about 70% better than me useing clan hall buffs
im not a very good solo class but alot of bd's agree they get better xp soloing till mid 60's
They melee quite well, in fact that's the standard layout. I'd recommend the sword-and-shield method until 40, though. You'll have masteries for those as a Palus Knight, and won't get dual weapon masteries until 40.

Good call. Quoted for truth.
How do I get spec points and what are the core skills to train for good melee until duals?
sting is your friend, as well as all your masteries for your weapon and heavy armor and whatnot, I personally would run ultimate defense too as its a good "oh Sh&$" skill to have.
Dib man do you have internet problems? j/k
You're beeing missed...

There is no alternative to a melee setup. All BDs melee.

Claymore.
A sword or blunt is best from 20-40, but it really doesn't matter that much.
You'll do nearly as well with duals -- whatever you find cheap will work.

Sting, aggression, drain-life, and your masteries/anti-magic, etc. Even the poison skill can be handy as a low mp range attack for pulling.

Confusion skill is of limited use. Actually its only real use is for pulling trains for griefing.
