Increase Tolerance

Their have been alot of baning as of late. Not from boting, but for cursing. Now, I understand that very younge kids play this game, but it is an open pvp game. You are going to make enemys and are going to have fights with them. But instead of dealing with it themselves they report your for saying [censored], [censored] and **** and you get a perma ban. Or you are talking in Giran and say AIDs, and next thing you know you are perma baned for racism. So serously, NC, raise tolerance to cursing and harassment ingame. And focus move on boters and finding the people who are really boting and not just being reported for pk someone in an enemy clan.

Please dont lock/delete.

Thanks.
Please continue your enfocement of obscene talk.

For those who must curse, speak out loud in your room, not on your screen, please. Self-discipline is a good trait.

*** is not blocked by the ingame chat filter. But what if I say wts *** and someone that does not like me reports me for "obscene talk"?

Dont ban people for saying stuff when they just lost 1/2 day xp.
Quite frankly I'm of the completely opposite opinion. Would rather see more players banned for obscene language OVER dealing with bots which I can deal with myself if need be.

I have absolutely no problems if a person pk's me over and over but is a good and respectful player. That's why I liked EvilSeed so much. (one of Hindemith's more notorious pk'ers). No flames, no disrespect. Was a good time.
Bump.
I am with the others against your approach.

When I see people bypassing the the filter, they are actively asking for getting banned.

You can curse on TS or just curse the walls of your room. If you really take the time to type it in, it cannot possibly be in "the heat of the moment".

Cursed Kitten
I was in a funny conversation the other day...

It involved some soap box ****** standing up against filth by petitioning someone for mentioning a homosexuality. I told him I was gay and asked him if I was filth, and he went balistic on me... some sort of ignorant holy war. He threatened to petition me too and I just laughed at him.

...

Seriously, these idiots where gloating about all the people they got banned for petitioning GMs about their language. It's stupid people like this that are taking up GM's precious time away from investigating and banning professional farmers. While legitimate players with potty mouths get the boot, bot trains go unnoticed.
Heh. Kinda reminds meof Blizzard banning a guild for having a title readin "GBLT friendly" in the attempt to PROTECT the members from animosity of the so-called straight other people.

The point is sometimes your anger boils above control and you cus ingame, only to get perma baned. Everyone has, at some point int heir life, gotten to this point.

Happened on my old server, Shadow Moon ( quit over a year ago, WoW sucks ).

Blizzard took back the order and apologized :D

Just quoting this to proove you wrong :)

Oh btw, did you know, that cursing in french, italian, chinese, zhuaheli, german, polish, spanish and alpha centaurian cannot get you banned ? Go Go powerspeakers.

IF it happens in the moment it happens as an outburst of speech... so short of being on TS and subjecting someone to that type of language in a moment of passion, I don't buy it.

oh... and this is coming from a person who had, at one point in time, one of THE most foul mouths around. And then one day I woke up and realized I had lost all respect for myself and was quite frankly embarrassed that that was how I chose to represent myself.

Strength comes in many forms, not just physical.
Here's an idea, type up a list of all the foul words that jiggle your jolly and tape it next to your monitor (so long as your parents are in another room). This way you can get all excited about foul talk and the rest of us can appreciate enforcement of one of the rules that we agreed to and makes L2 still worth playing.

Now have a cookie and run along.
I curse and cus in 3 languages that are not in any way cencored by the filters ;) They can cencor english all they want, I dont care. Cursing in Finnish, Swedish and French much more barbaric and usually people are really dumbfounded when you start spamming in a strange language ;)
Cursing in english is what can get you banned.

Personally, I think that saying "you mother-_-ing -_- -_-" gets your point across just as well as actually typing it.

And you can't get banned when what shows up is "-_-"

It's not necessary to circumvent the chat filter to get your point across.

Lies! Not everyone gets to this point. Usually it's just the ones that can't control themselves in real life as well. Also, there is a huge difference between saying something in real life while playing (which I've done) and taking the time to type it out. Grow up.

Besides, your first offense will just get you a temp ban. If you haven't learned your lesson after 3 or 4 times, you deserve to "play elsewhere".

I agree with you. I feel like cursing some noob down at times, and i dont think i deserve a ban for it. If you do it in real life you get a telling off from the police at the most, getting a perma ban is totally OTT. I think a chat ban for 24 hours or more would be a more suitable punishment. Im in a relaxed clan and we swear and curse at each other, its male bonding, i dont want some jack *** noob comeing in getting offended then i get banned for it. Ill take the consequence of my action as haveing someone who hates me, i dont think a ban is in order.
Last time i checked this game is rated Mature, so deal with it cry babies, ill use my language how i want.

Ever heard of the term "The individual freedom ends, where it penetrates the freedom of others" ?

You use your language as you want, yes you can do that. On your clan channel that is perfectly fine. Actually I doubt, that anyone can get banned for INTERNAL clan chat. Public messages are the issue.

And you are the one, who can cry, as YOU need to deal with the chat filter and if you intentionally circumvent it, then you are subject to the proper disciplinary actions. If you cannot take that heat, then I would guess, that would make you the cry baby.

Just cause I am 34yo, does not mean, that I like to read spammed obsceneties.

Crying Freekitten
I dont break or avoid the swear filter. I dont pm people with hatred messages. But in a online game you will get into situations where you have arguments with others, and if i accidently toss out a curse or three i dont think i deserve a ban. If someone trains you i think i have the right to call em what i feel, but i cant because of fear of getting banned by the guy who just griefed me? What a perfect system we have.
Language is our way of expressing ourselves, you cant dictate to someone what they can say and to whom. If someone gets put down by my language, they have the right to speak back to me how they feel. I understand how pm'ing obscene messages and abuse to players is morally wrong, and that some people may get put down in real life by it, but thats there issue, you have to deal with it. Next we will have to send private message invitations to talk to people...

if i accidently toss out a curse or three i dont think i deserve a ban.

Fortunately, it's not up to you. If you can't control what you type, perhaps it's time to move on.

If someone trains you i think i have the right to call em what i feel

You can think you have all the rights you want. That's not reality, though. You don't even have the right to play this game. You are given the privilege. You play "by NCSoft's leave" therefore you follow their rules.

Rights versus privileges. Try to learn the difference.

I understand how pm'ing obscene messages and abuse to players is morally wrong, and that some people may get put down in real life by it, but thats there issue, you have to deal with it.

Yes, they have to deal with your message and you have to deal with whatever disciplinary actions NCsoft places on you.
You have to deal with it.

So what was the point we are arguing about ?

Kitten Deal

Now, I understand that very younge kids play this game, but it is an open pvp game.

Can you say "non sequitur"? ...didn't think so ;)

This game has a Teen rating. To keep that rating, the offensive language has to be on a leash. Given that it's completely unnecessary to every part of the game, try think about it rationally.
They're legally obligated to prevent excessive bad language, and there's no reason to allow it, so...get over it, LostGrace.

As for intentionally bypassing the swear filter, which is a seperate but related problem, I'm all for a zero-tolerance permaban. You can't accidentally do the "space between each letter" and similar tricks, it's someone who is intentionally going out of his way to break a fundamental game rule.
Who needs 'em.

Now, for people who honestly do just swear without thinking, the game already has a sa***uard for you! That filter keeps your swear words from showing up on anyone else's screen, and thus prevents you from accidentally breaking the rule. You can only break it on purpose, or with words that NC apparently deigns "grey area" which you can argue a case for.
My argument is that some of the rules there are on swearing are OTT. In game situation and real life if something bad happens some people curse or some people say 'oh sugar.' Thats personal preference. In game if im for example, in a situation where i just got pwned by mobs and i die, i might say the 4 letter F word outloud to my friends or party member. Whats been happening is these things have been said and some jerk screenies it and reports it as abuse, it sucks. I cant tell if the people around me are unstable bags of nerves who are going to have a panik attack if they hear me swear, times change and so does language (which does not excuse abuse) but social attitudes of what is and is not acceptable change or vary from different places and cultures. Where i come from people swear and others think nothing of it, if i hear a guy swear when walking down the street i dont run off to the police and report him. People should learn to accept swearing as a part of modern language, or use /block playername so they dont have to hear it.
You can also get baned for calling someone a mother [censored] [censored], even though they are blocked by the chat filter.

So, what do you call someone that can't control what they type?

Last time i checked this game is rated Mature, so deal with it cry babies, ill use my language how i want.

You may want to check a little more carefully. It's rated "Teen" for violence. Check the bottom right corner of the www.lineage2.com (http://www.lineage2.com) page.

It does not have a rating for language, which means they have to filter it or it would end up Mature, which would potentially kill their market. NC isn't going to allow it for legal reasons.

Edit: or, to put it in a more context-appropriate manner: This game is rated 'Teen', so deal with it crybaby, you can't use your language how you want.
...you know it was funny, SPS :)

You can also get baned for calling someone a mother [censored] [censored], even though they are blocked by the chat filter.

I would love to see some kind of proof of this, as I have never even heard of it happening. I'm not calling you a flat-out liar, but I would like some evidence of such a strong claim.
It also says children under the age of 13 are not permitted to play, if your over 13 and playing this game, im sure youve heard swear words before. Unless you have lived a very shelterd life. If i ask someone their age and they reply 12, im allowed to get them banned then?
Keep the swear filters in place, i have no trouble with that, make them better ill even offer advice as to which words to censor. Words such as h0m0 are censored but things like noob and carebear arnt, they are both used to cause distress and annoyance just as if i was to call someone a french connection united kingdom.

It says in the EULA that you cannot harass someone. Calling them a mother [censored] [censored] is harassment, even though it is blocked by the chat filter.......
What?

Is that really in the EULA?

Define harass?

Seriously.... if someone told me "don't pk me, I want my exp.... if you do I will get you banned", could I get the ban hammer?

I dare to challenge that statement. As I understand it, the chat filter is blocking swear words in such an effective way, that you cannot be harassed by it as -_- is not offensive at all.

-_- is about as offensive as O.O and ^^ and similar silly smileys. Mixing them into conversation is surely no reason to be banned.

-_- Kitten -_-

-_- Kitten -_-

I'm offended and plan to report you.
Excessive perusal of the blah forums has made me a bit more cussy again lately - but for the most part, I stick with the simple rule of: Don't get censored, type -_- straight away.

I think you can attack the character, but not the player behind the character, so you can pk the noob gladiator so long as you dont call little timmy behind the keyboard nasty things.
That's about it to my understanding too.

So - I wonder if you roleplay recognisably, you can insult your opponent all you like. I'd assume if it's adenified enough, nobody can fault you.
As very little of this suggestion can lead to constructive discussion, I am closing this thread now. Thanks!
