My friend who play with me is about to hit 40 and become a Gladiator.
I was wondering what gear I should get him for C grade (yes, I buy all his gear for him, I make money easily, he doesn't).
Since he wants to go duals, I was thinking a set of dual Katana (mainly for the looks), probably no SA since I won't risk breaking Duals if I make them myself, but the Haste Sa would be nice for him if I can find a +4 set cheap. And for armor I was thinking Plated Leather Set, so he can have more evasion instead of a shield and the +3 str will give him more damage output.
katanas are good, plated leather is good for attack, but he wont be so great at tanking in light, if he normally does tank work in groups i would suggest full plate... or if thats too expensive composite armor, both heavy sets
im a fresh gladi and with fpset and kat duals. if im not careful when i solo and i get more than 4-5 mobs mobs i will die. if u get ur friend light he will most likely die on 2-3 mobs light is NOT good on gladis we get aggro from mobs so fast when we start fightin and its worse with top duals u get ur firend fp set and kats and he will be a DD tank.
trust me light is crap for gladis and if u two grp alot u best have hate otherwise hes the one whos going to be tanking and fp set gives hp bonus which is very nice
she is a shillen knight they have hate the duo should work fine. not to mention 3 gladis in my Ally use DC light and do very well in PVP the highest one using DC light beat an equal lvl gladi using majestic heavy. So i would say Light is fine its up to the player not the bandwagon people to decide.
When he get to 40, I'll probably give him my Full Plate and tell him to go solo a little just to try it (he's the only person I trust with my gear, so don't ask for it).
Anyway even if I buy the Plated Leather set and he like it less than a Full Plate, I'll just sell the plated and buy a Full.
PL definatly. Pick up duel spirit swords instead of katana's, the 25% extra HP rocks alot more then 4% haste. Being a Glad hes likely to steal agro for high damage out put, so an extra 1k hp really helps when you have no healer or buffs.
Yea, dont waste your money on the Kats. Hell, I went 40-52 with Dual SoR's +4 for the health bonus. The damage isnt impressive since there the low end C dual, but, there dirt cheap (1.8 mil + 1.8 mil + 42k). You could make 2 sets and risk the +'s for the cost of a Kat/Kat.
I'll probably do what I always do, find a cheap set of +4 whit the same crystal value as the Spirit*Spirit (Kat*Kat seem easier to find) and exchange it at Mammon. :)
umm im a gladiator are you? and was the gladi in maj asleep or something? as skills dont miss and there what we use most i know a huge amount of gladiators and none of them use light! if you have a warsmith friend craft the kats mine where made for about 5mil for both
Light armor isnt bad on a gladiator. In fact, Dark Crystal Light has great stats for a glad. It's all in your play style. If you dont MA or Tank for groups normally, then Light Armor may be good for you. If your like me and find yourself tanking or pulling, you'll want the heavy armor.

Actually i am a glad, ive always been a glad, and always will be a glad. Saying glads cant use light armour shows your unexperianced with the class. Ill take 250ish p atk over 200ish p def anyday thank you very much. Glads are damage dealers, i like to do damage, ya know? Dual kat's have great looks, sure. But the atk speed SA has never been impressive, it doesnt get good untill dual kesh's. The best SA's for a glad are hp and crit rate.
so what you ment to do get c grade duals and upgrade? i did this to get my first kats but its costs alot and NM heavy also gives a p.atk bonus
No, get a set of dual Kat and exchange it to another set, it's free and it's fun!
I do it all the time to sell D grade Duals make a cheap set with what you can buy from the traders a Giran, exchange it at Mammon for a more popular set(Knight*Elven FTW).
with more atk speed wouldnt you get more hits which means more damage i know health is great but with heavy you dont need it as much just remembered didnt he wanted to be a DD?
oh and ive been soloing branded since i hit 40 i have a fp set with +4 kats and the only thing thats bad is the respawn rate!
I tend to buy either cheap C grade duals which some desperate guy is selling cos they suck, such as dual elvenlongs then upgrade with the AA i make leveling catas, i trade them into top C duals at it costs around 9m total. Then you can sell on for a nice profit, depending on the mood of the market and the damand on the duals. NM heavy is ok for A grade but something like tallum heavy is much better for a gladiator, its not ideal to be tanking at 61+, but it is possible to do so. My personal preference is to maximise atk speed and use VR, i can keep agro when im the tank and because of the 16%+ extra atk speed i got, i can drain enough hp back to reduce heals aswell as charge focus a **** sight faster, but dont go for atk speed in C grade cos the bonus kats give are pathetic.
with more atk speed wouldnt you get more hits which means more damage i know health is great but with heavy you dont need it as much just remembered didnt he wanted to be a DD?
Yes he wants to be a DD, but I think that the +3 STR from the Plated Leather will help to do a lot more damage then haste Duals with a Full Plate. The Health swords will just help taking the hits from the lower p.def.
its 7% and i use the manor system to make adena for dss and greater healing pots and i do use alic pots sometimes then i really dont have to worry about greater healing pots normal healing pots do the job.

4% isnt much, i agree. When you get Tallum and Kesh for the +16%, that starts to make a diffrence when you have stacked Haste2 and Duelist Spirit. (Another 5% possible from tats, so up to 21% attack speed with equipment alone), thats kinda sick.
The death whisper C grade duals may be a better choice then health, if your friend wont be tanking as your a knight. It improves the power of your crit attacks, i dont recall if their are C duals with focus, but if there are, get those fo sure.

PL should be str+4 con-1 if my memory serves me.
You're right, +4Str not +3, but for just -1Con it's alot better than tats.

Buy him him +4 STR -4 CON dyes and your laughing, i have those dyes and when i equip my PL set, which is only when we have a hate using tank, i deal serious damage.

agreed. +4 str -4con, Plated Leather, and screw dual spirits or dual kats. get spirit/raid's for the focus SA. that's a DD setup and he'll fly up through levels. i'd advise against dual spirits or dual kats.
EDIT:
This is, of course, assuming proper buffs including prophet buffs, and SE's Vamp Rage.
for point of argument, when i did my royal coin quest, i had to kill a gargoyle in FP at level 60. i tanked the mob down, gaining HP, using an aoba plated leather set. (i'm a PR...). so that's low C armor tanking lvl 56 mobs. using that armor to tank level 40-52 mobs wont be a problem with proper buffs.
EDIT2:
if he likes light (i would :P) i'd suggest he go +5 dex, +4 strength. B grade, of course, go bw heavy, but in A grade, go DC light. you people who bag on light armor should really xp with vamp rage.
He wants to be DD, thats why I thought about Plated Leather.
He doesn't like to tank, anyway I am already a tank in Full Plate so another build would be nice for him.
If he wants to DD then get focus duels. I dont remember which ones they are but definatley better than any others for damage. Unless he only plays in groups and never solo's I wouldn't go light armor. You can stay alive but will eat up all your profit popping hp pots solo. I played a glad all the way up to lvl 62. Never had a problem soloing in FP and focus duels. It just got to expensive to upgrade and got tired of being pwned in pvp.
your not very good at pvp r ya ive not lost with anyone my lvl and i take back what i said earlier spirit sword duals are the way to go there good for solo and even better in pvp c grade mages take about 6 hits to put me down and im lvl 43 with d grade jewels!
and any of the weapons make u a better DD with buffs and we have VS we dont need focus. with it on i crit every few hits :D :) :D
No on my glad I just couldn't get the mele pvp skils down. Of course 90% of the time I played solo unbuffed. I played on Teon and could never find a clan worth a dam.
PvP isn't so bad at your lvl but it gets much tougher at higher lvls. I have a 60+ sps now and I dont pvp much (not a big fan of it except in sieges) but I can own a glad easily most of the time.
Disclaimer: I do not play a Gladiator; however, I have played as a Bishop who used to duo with a Gladiator (for 40+ levels). I have also played as a Blade Dancer, and my Elemental Summoner uses dual swords as well. In short, I am used to playing/healing dual-wielding melees.
I'd go with a setup like this.
Weapon: Focus duals. I've always been fond of Raid*Shamshir. You won't hit faster, and you won't take hits better, but when you crit, you'll hurt. A lot.
Armour: Plated Leather. You're not losing much HP, but you're adding a ton of punch to your hits. It's like Demon's for melee. If you can get VR, you'll do extra well here.
Tattoo: +5 Dex/-5 Con, +3 Str/-3 Con. Basically, you're going to kill your HP for crit rate, attack speed, and yet more punch. Like this you'll end up as +5 Dex, +7 Str, -9 Con (with PL).
Advice: If you don't have one already, find a good, active healer friend to play with you. Bishop, EE, or SE; doesn't really matter. The key here is "good." Since you probably won't be able to keep aggro off for too long anyways, you might consider rerolling one to aid him. ;P
I finally managed to get my Glad to 40...[censored] human quest... :p
But my clannies had spare +4 dual kats (I changed em to Raids...they're so ****) and comp plate for me once I got there, and you can't beat free. I also can't imagine that C Grade gear could make or break your toon...
Just makes sense to me that since I get Heavy armor mastery, I should be wearing heavy armor. I know Bladedancers that would kill for ANY kind of armor mastery past lvl 40.
And like it's been said many times already, in a party, the glad will be tanking unless there's an archer class or someone with high level hate - regardless of what you're wearing.
So, I agree with the majority of the other posters, just fit your gear to your playstyle...can't ask for more than that.
im a fresh gladi and with fpset and kat duals. if im not careful when i solo and i get more than 4-5 mobs mobs i will die.
What the heck of a playing style ist this?? Just about everybody dies, when he takes on 4-5 mobs solo. When you solo, you normally take on 1 mob at a time, unless you have some kind of aoe, which a glad doesnt have afaik, or does he?
Getting 2 mobs may happen, 3 is really dangerous without a healer. Pulling more is really very careless imho.
It's living on the edge -style ;) And frankly, if I'm buffed 4-5 mobs my lvl dont matter much unless I'm hunting in a 4-5x hp place with phys resist mobs. Not all classes are as frail as archers and nukers. Destroyers, Gladiators and Tanks can take some nice beating and in the case of Destro/Gladi they deal out so much dmg that the mobs are soon dead. And in the case of tanks, they got the skills to outlast all the mobs.
For C-grade, if you gonna be a DD, PL and Focus duals would be ideal. Add in some nice str and dex tattoos and the killing will be fast. If you get SE buffs and use gsap pots, you wont need healing or hp pots since you will leech all the hp you need with VR. C-grade heavy and light differences aint that big. Not so many masteries yet to make it a big deal and at those lvls the pdef difference of light and heavy aint that big either.
when i solo i go to the entrance sometimes to see if i get buffs and in the first rooms 3-4 mobs is hard but with GHP there do able
oh and we do get aoe skills the one ive got is double sonic slash and it wont be the only one :D
and i get aggro very quick in branded with my skills and your not a close range melee type are you? maybe you should make a gladi before you try to make one look stupid!
Your aoe skills however are limited and drain alot of mp. Pole using classes are more suited for taking multiple mobs, as are nukers with aoe attacks(faster cooldown, more dmg, need I say more? ;))

So, is this a good build?
I made a gladiator for various reasons. I have a Summoner already had some good LA sets to use so I made my gladiator into LA wearer.
Basicly tried to use dagger set up to help shape my Gladi and had some funds to play around with. A pure DD gladi that evades damage was my goal.
Spirit*Raid +4 Duals Focus SA
PL Set(luckly finished crafting it before made 40)
mid C jewels borrowed off my gf
30 DEX was not good enough to enjoy LA so I bought a +4DEX/-4CON. Invested in greator swift pots and bulk CSS crafting. Faster DDing the faster u gain lvls.
To enjoy my evasion bonus I soloed 1-2x white to green mobs. Catacombs I duoed/tanked with SEs. Add focus/VR buffs and I could tank really well since I am pushing strong damage and I knew how to pull carefully thanks to Warlock days.
49-52, Southern EV was perfect to solo/duo in. Hard part taking a spot without bots camping it to.
PvPed with some my clannies, I didnt have great evasion but I did pretty good that they tried their best to stay out of Sonic Blaster range due my horrible run speed. I dodged alot of Aka's shots, SR.
My glad on hold for now, but try push him to A grade later.
LA is not "the best" build but it is doible depending on the play style of players. LA's do help push damage output, but I can see why Tallum heavy looks good.

i was just saying i have an aoe skill and will get more as horak tryed to make it seem he new about gladis when hes hawkeye and a prophet :D
oh and we do get aoe skills the one ive got is double sonic slash and it wont be the only one :D
LOL you dont know jack about glads, double sonic slash is not AoE. DSS is a 1 target move. Gladiator nukes are crap and we dont use them. I only ever use my long range aoe nuke when i need to hurt a running target, but otherwise there not worth jack. Glads with +dex are stupid, ive tried it and hate it, the bonus is hardly noticable. Go for STR or CON and maximise on our biggest strength, damage or durability.
Dex builds arnt crap, nothing is "crap." People play the class however they want too.
On the AOE's, no, there not the best, but there still good supplments to AOE partys. Its fun actually. Me, another Gladiator and a BH with a boxed SE used to run around doing groups in AB. 2 Sonic Storms and the Tyrant AOE put them at 1/8th Life, then Whirl Wind from the Dwarf for the Over-hit. Everything can be useful, its just a matter of thinking outside the box.
DEX is crap, its good for nothing. And the using our AoE kills your MP in a matter of moments, its more efficent to forget about aoe and go straight for the kill.

When I was AOEing with 2 other people (DA and SpS) in AB, my little "useless" AOE attack meant the difference between needing just one nuke and having to use 2 for each group.

i ment sonic buster and it helps me with crowd control but i do agree about the con,str and dex part

you dont play your character much do you?
A: if you play pvp, you WILL lose to people your own level and under. We all do. Get over it, and stop saying [censored] like i never lose 1v1. how bout you level up and actually get into pvp, instead of whacking on NGers or some [censored].
B: VS (viscious stance) doesnt increase your crit rate. it increases crit damage, and not enough to bother with. it drains mana too much. i'd reccommend instead to either use skills, or just use accuracy and swing as a glad. they have incredible patk with str build, and for levelling it's good if they just swing.
oh and we do get aoe skills the one ive got is double sonic slash and it wont be the only one :D

I didn't say it was the best build, but one directed at increasing ur chances to miss damage instead of absorbing it. Also I was going for speed over brute strength.
Just a preference and I'm sticking to it. Only posted to say there are LA gladiators out there and they are just as deadly as heavy armor ones.
Say go to www.l2blah.com (http://www.l2blah.com) and do a search for "gladi" and read other opinions on builds. Never hurts to do some research.
VS does increase critical dmg quite a bit, it got boosted by C4 I think since it now does significantly more dmg than it used to do in C3. 300-400 more dmg per crit is ok, if you can count on it that you crit while you have it activated ;)

Er what? ofc i know about LA glads, im one of them. Im talking about dex builds and nuke builds, i use LA but i still dont edit my dex because i get around 10 extra crit, 4 evasion a couple of run speed and some lowzy acc, it isnt worth adding a few crappy stats to dex when i can add a huge chunk of hp/cp or a few hunderd p atk's.
come to the gustin server i will tell you the names of my friends alliance mebers and people who dont like me and they will all tell you i always end up wining i have lost before but i was ganked i go to the race track arnea everyday i lose to people higher than me and before i was a gladi i lost to people my lvl and sometimes even lower i wasnt trying to be big headed but im alot better with my gladi :)
I dont know about most people but I dont count arena when it comes to pvp. Everyone in arena can use any skill they have without having to wait for enemy to flag. Being an Sps now I win 90% of the time in arena only because I can stand in the corner and just nuke the crap out of someone before they relise where its coming from. I went toe to toe with a DA and his couger in arena almost won couger died and he only had 200 hp left. When I had my glad I won alot in arena. Outside the arena is another story most of the time it was 1v3 or more and even in parties archers and nukers would own me before I could get close enough to hit them. The arena is fun to play around in but glads are really week outside compared to most of the pvp parties you will run into.

[censored]. pure and utter [censored]. you're mid 40's, you know nothing about high end grind or high end pvp. you've probably never even been in parties with a bladedancer or swordsinger. you dont know the difference between focus and death whisper, you dont know what viscious stance does, and you dont know what the skill names of your primary skills are. how bout you get a clue before you ever post again?
you're mid 40's, how much pvp have you honestly done? oh wow, you killed some d graders in the arena, woooooowww....
to the op: light armor glads are not a bad idea by any stretch of the imagination. especially with buffs, a light armor glad is very good in PVE. in C3+, with green mobs giving full xp, 10 evasion >>>> marginal improvement in pdef. especially in C grade, where that 10 evasion also comes with a massive improvement in patk. Especially on a gladiator, where you have quite good patk already, that results in incredible damage output. and with a human's high natural con, that results in even after you **** it for your str and dex tat, you still have quite reasonable HP.
C graders shouldnt even be thinking about pvp. you shouldnt touch pvp till approximately 55+.
also, you should never solo. solo is just a waste of time. this game is meant to be played with buffs, so find a friend, maybe make a friend, get a buffer, buy a second account, join a good clan, whatever you need to do to get a regular buffer to duo with, or a regular group to xp with.
oh and we do get aoe skills the one ive got is double sonic slash and it wont be the only one :D

on the contrary, 2.5 accuracy and evasion is quite good. i'd much rather have that than 200 extra HP. only thing i'd miss would be stun resistance of higher con, but having always played dark elves, i'm used to that.
