Probably a "new and improved" version of Gameguard, which means either the ability to find more than before or to be tolerant to more legal programs that were seen malicious before or maybe even both.

There's something absolutely new.
In conjunction with Outpost it crashes Explorer now.
Message in the corner says:
Network access for EXPLORER.EXE has been blocked, since it's memory area has been changed by another process.
Process GAMEMON.DES has made changes in memory area.
It isn't related to firewall, because after disabling memory control explorer still crashes.
why cant they just update back to the gameguard that actually let us play. this is retarted. Im the sixth person I know of who disabled their account today. lame :p
I've also experienced problems with this update on one PC. If I alt-tab out of the game and try to open "My Computer", I get an Explorer.exe application error: The Instruction at "0x732e6b3f" referenced memory at "0x70511054". The memory could not be "written".
I can reproduce this every time when the game is running, on Windows 2000 Pro. But can't reproduce it at all on XP.
well the only reason they put the new gameguard in is that Bartz and Teon always is full so the botters can't log in ..with this update ..lots of people can't log in or dualboxing .. making lots of more room for the botters....
* GG crashes scheduled TV recording of Windows MCE (No TV recorded in afk-trade).
* GG crashes Windows Explorer/Task Manager on my Dell notebook (McAfee VirusScan installed).
* GG doesn't allow to play Lineage 2 on Windows Vista (every other DX9 application works).
* GG destabilizes your system, getting into very kernel of your OS.
Why does a game CHANGE the kernel of my OS.
* GG exposes your system to Internet attacks, forcing you to shut down your firewall in order
to play LA2 (only few ones allowed). Why does a game DISABLE my privacy and security?
* GG patches ALL (even not-relevant to LA2) processes (Look posts above).
Why should a game HAVE admin permission for my computer in order to run?
* GG slows you system down very badly. Remember start up time of LA2 Prelude?
Why does a game initially ASSUME that you are EXPLOITER, BOTTER, CHEATER etc?
Why can a game have server-side checks instead of exploiting OSes of 100.000 subscribers of LA2?
Nprotect doesn't have resources to test GG all-over-the-globe. So NCsoft will NEVER ever get rid of
compatibility problems, bugs, causing only problems for legit users. As far as you may notice,
bots are still there. Why a heck we need GG anyway?
I'm 100% sure, GG-free version of Lineage 2 will have twice less bug-reports, problem-issues as it has
right now. GG is simply technically incompetent crap, pretending to be a working solution. It doesn't
work and could be easily bypassed for those who wants.
Let's all vote for the removal of GG. We want a smooth gameplay and no headaches, no security
breaches because of GG.
Block BOTH read and write access to other applications for GameGuard. That worked for me - no more explorer.exe crashes.
Just spam in log: "gamemon.des was blocked from reading/modifying XXX.exe"
