I personally like to run lineage 2 in a window so I can access stuff from my desktop such as winamp, AIM, yahoo, and MSN messanger. I can't use msn messanger in lineage 2 because it crashes the game. Another thing I really enjoy doing is playing games on pogo. And it really ****** me off that game gaurd closes my Java windows. I don't understand why you keep on updating game gaurd if the people who make the bots just change their code and can use the bots a few minutes after game gaurd is released. Its not fair to us that want to use lineage 2, AND OTHER PROGRAMS WHICH DO NOT INTERFER WITH LINEAGE 2!.
Yep really... I've never had an issue with GG; and pretty much every online game nowadays use it for this or that reason. MapleStory, Risk your Life; and I think that new RF online game uses it too :P
Yeah... GG really does screw around the OS while it's on on some computers.
I have no problem with this one... but it disables java on my laptop, and everything else ( including a second L][ client ) is disabled on my office's PC.
Yup, messes up Excel and Word pretty bad too. Not to mention Quicktime and the like.
But they don't care. They want to stop all the bots that use the official game client, which is a grand total of NONE.
GameGuard has a good scam going, they protect NC from nothing, but charge them a fortune.
Well obviously it doesn't help a bit against dedicated third party tools, but i do believe it does a quite good job vs. generic key loggers. Granted i'd still prefer to care about that myself and get rid of Gameguard.
No kidding!!
I wonder how much it actually costs NC soft to maintain a working contract to keep GG implemented...andit doesn't even work!
Why even bother if it only causes grief for users and vulnerability issues in client computers? I get tonsofGG errors left and right and I have to tweak my firewall and open up practically all my ports just to get the game running...and the repeat the process after every patch >.< or I get ******ed GG errors and I can't log in.
Does NC Soft really even read these forum posts? *sigh*
I think you all misunderstand what gameguard does.
It essentially prevents all but the most complicated bot programs from working; ie, those that emulate the client. IE, *the* program. The one and only.
So, instead of having to fight multiple bot programs, gameguard makes it so they only have to fight one.
Personally, my heart goes out to everyone who tries to work on excel stuff while playing the game, but really, you should get back to your work before your boss realizes you're playing L2. :p
I run a webcafe and I keep score of the time that's being rented in an excel sheet; no problems so far except of course, messed up colors from the graphic card. Only happens when I have to tab a lot, but L2 was NEVER alt+tab friendly.
GG crashes my offline TV recording in Windows MCE 2005.
GG crashes Windows Explorer/Task Manager on my Dell notebook.
GG doesn't allow to play Lineage 2 on Windows Vista (which is on application level 100% compatible with XP).
GG destabilizes your system, getting into very kernel of your OS.
GG exposes your system to Internet attacks, forcing you to close your firewall (only few ones allowed).
GG patches ALL (even not-relevant to LA2) processes - dirty technic.
GG slows you system down very badly. Remember start up time of LA2 Prelude?
GG fights <known program> only 1-2 days, until <known program> gets updated. So GG doesn't prevent botting.
NCsoft America should really consider about removing GG from NA version of Lineage. There are no real benefits from GG, only problems for legit players. Paying NProtect (creator of GG) for a new update of GG, NCsoft forces farmers and botters to pay for upgrade of their <known program> thus supporting further development of <known problem>.
Supporting GG means support of <known program>.
I'm sure, GG-free version of Lineage 2 will have twice less bug-reports, problem-issues as it has right now. GG is simply technically incompetent and cheap solution.
