New Player Impressions...

So far, I think this game is better than most MMO's... Played just about everyone.. I just left wow and searching for a new MMO. RF-Online is so bugged and needs so much work I just stopped... So heres my current experience with L2:

I started a Human Fighter, as soon as I entered the game I realized the graphics are great but the animations on some of the mobs aren't fluent. Not a big deal tho.

The distance in which you can see mob names isnt far at all, you must hover over there name most of the time.

Mobs seem to only drop Adena, I have yet to see any kind of drop at all. The stores prices for weapons and armor are VERY high.

Are the weapons in the store the best forever? Or are there rare drops in dungeons with stats and stuff?

The new zones are empty, I was expecting that, but when I do a search for ALL parties looking for members I see like 2 or 3 at most. Unless ppl dont use that system a lot.

What if I hit 20 and I wanna do a dungeon? Most players are 50+ or maxed, will I be able to even level past teh unsoloable point?

I really really wanna play a new MMO and this seems to be a huge hurdle, as a low level, I get only a glimpse on how difficult it will be post 20 to even get a group or even be able to level.

I also tried a caster, and when I get to the level 6 mobs, I castedmy dmg spell and it didnt die in 1 hit, so it came up to me and killed me because it kept cancelling my casting and my weapon did like 0 damage. (White Mob)

Please tell me theres light at the end of the rainbow post 20, or what level will I be able to find a city and buy cheaper items from player merchants?

Any help in-game with adena or weapons would be much appreciated! Cause this is gonna be a long journey from the looks of it.

Newbie-level monsters basically just drop adena and very low-quality items. Low-level monsters drop adena and, around half the time, basic materials (with a very low chance for a full item to drop). That general trend, of frequent adena, occassional materials, and rare items continues the entire game.

It's actually a very good design, you might be able to find the explanation with a forum search. In the meantime, it'll suffice to say that items aren't that expensive, you just need the perspective that more play experience will bring :)

All No-Grade gear is available in stores. Most D-grade gear is available in stores, with the exception of a few rare, set-completing, or top-of-grade items. Low C-grade gear is available from an NPC who does not take cash. Beyond that, the stores have nothing at all.

Bingo.

Most players are 50+ or maxed, will I be able to even level past teh unsoloable point?

1) there is no "unsoloable point", it becomes less convenient but never impossible.
2) there are enough alts, rerolls, and new players that, when you combine them, there are definitely enough players around under 50.

I also tried a caster, and when I get to the level 6 mobs, I castedmy dmg spell and it didnt die in 1 hit, so it came up to me and killed me because it kept cancelling my casting and my weapon did like 0 damage. (White Mob)

You just need to learn how to do it right, L2 tactics apparently seem alien to a lot of new players. Maybe it depends on your gaming background, I thought it made perfect sense ;)
I made a reply to your hindemith post so chekc that out...

Remember.. you must kite the mobs as a caster. I've seen casters just stand there trying to cast while the mobs hit them... that seems to be what one does in EQ2 and WoW as that seems to be the norm in those games.

I used to 3 hit mobs with no shots sub 20.

Go to Dion and see all the people. That is where the 20 group is. And there are a lot of them there.

Also.. I do believe that most people don't use the "find party window". I certainly never use it.

What you need to do is meet people and eventually join a clan. Dion... Dion calls....
Quests, quests, quests, quests! There is a lvl 10-11 weapon quest for each race, and that gives you a weapon better than the 10-15k store weapon. Other quests give other rewards, like enchant scrolls (can be sold in Giran/Dion for good money) and some starter gear. Yes, these quests are tedius, but they do give good rewards if exploited. Good rewards mean good gear, and good gear means easier leveling. :)

Lineage is a very offensive oriented game. Make sure to always upgrade your weapon first. Take advantage of the newbie bonuses and the newbie guide.

Unlike WoW, where your class' defining skills arrive at level 10 or 20, Lineage has a much longer term aproach. You start to get your top skills at level 40, after your second class change. (OF course, level 40 is only where the xp grind really begins! :D ) Think of the class changes as a permanent 'spec' choice. Each class change provides access to certain skills, and limits you from others. 1-20 is a chance to try out everything of your spec. 20-40 refines your spec, and 40+ is your permanent setup.

So, keep it up! Try bringing a class or two to level 20, and see what you like about them. Then, continue on from there.

Good luck in l2!
To answer your question about being hit and canceled when spell casting a good tick is to kite run a bit and make the mob chase you you will see the mob stop and get ready to swing as soon as it does and you are hit stop and cast your spell. After the mob hits you it will need to run up to you again to hit you more so you have earned a few seconds to cast and that should be enough.

Quests, quests, quests, quests! There is a lvl 10-11 weapon quest for each race, and that gives you a weapon better than the 10-15k store weapon.

Good info, on that comment though, um... I'm a lvl 18 Orc fighter, anyone know where this quest is? Also got a friend who is a lvl 15 Orc Mystic, keeps trying "Varanka's messenger" I think is the quest, wher you gotta kill some orc messenger guy with his escorts Orc Mystic keeps dying, any advice?
Dreaming spirit them, make sure to use spirit shots or blessed spirit shots to ensure it lands, then when they are alseep hit them with chill flame and venom which will reduce their life whilst they remain asleep. When their hp is low enough hit them with life drain or smack em in with ya weapon. As i said, make sure to use spirit shots to ensure your attacks dont fail.

Poison the mesanger from maximum distance, RUUUUUUNN, then drain when it's HP will turn low. In 1-2 drains it will be dead, then jsut keep runing untill the excort will lose interest in you, you dint need to kill them.

Thank you, I'll let my friend know, cause she was getting really frustrated at constantly dying.
Yea, that one is a bit annoying :) I just went and smacked the messenger dead and then ran like the wind! Drank lots of potions and such ^^

You could also do it with a few friends. You kill the messenger, friends take the guards out.
Contact Adventurer Guildsman in the village. He/she will give you a lot of hooks for quests.

By the way, have you got free soulshots/spiritshots? There are quests starting at 6 level (like killing a dozen of goblins or wolves for orc - I don't remember exactly). If you are qualified newbie character, you'll get like 6,000 soulshots or 3,000 spisitshots in addition to regular rewards for the quest. And weapon quest gives you just the same amount of soulshots/spiritshots.

By the way, there are more benefits for newbie characters. Don't hesitate to talk to Newbie guide and Event Cat Queen, ask them for information and use whatever you find useful :)
