So izzy comes to my siege party. That puts me at over 1200 mdef with full maj unsealed +3 (TY Domi). Here comes lvl 52 Krowv, para's me in full dc heavy. Ok, maybe he's lucky. Came back, aoe slept through mental aegis 4, 1200+ mdef. Ok maybe lucky. Cancelled in UD with 4.5k mdef. **** tough night maybe?

The thing is that mdef does little to nothing to mental attacks, at last when Blessed sps is involved, I don't know if it helps without the enemy using blessed sps. As for Para and sleep landing on you, that was luck. Buffs minimize the chance not destroy it. Thats why we get things like Mental Aegis, lvl 76 passive, and Arcane Protection (Chant of Spirit). But honestly I think its broken, its seems to do nothing to debuffs and cancel. I'd depend more on the new reflect debuff abilities most melee get 76+ than Arcane Protection.
From my experience mdef only helps against nuke damage, and thus why I say SwS are GREAT defense vs. nukers. When I say SwS are good against nukers I'm talking about getting nuked for 1200+ without and only getting nuked for 700+ with, not to mention added run speed to actually make it to nukers :). I know how you feel about the UD thing though. I've been slept by LEVEL 9 SLEEP in UD in which I have like 2500+ mdef (UD lvl 1 FTL :().
And you should REALLY consider summoner over a nuker. A summoner's summon can nuke for comparable damage and summoners get stuff that helps groups like mass cubix and special party buffs (I [censored] love Warlock buff). You may not get the uber sleep or cancel but sleep isn't effective against foes with brains and it pretty much depends on what you want, Cancel that can wreck one person a minute or buffs that make 9 people more uber and cubics that CAN be devastating (like a Warlock's :)).

In a PvP game, why would you consider someone a sellout for choosing a pvp class. Seems to be a logical idea, especially if that's what you play the game for.
I can say that mental aegis and wisdom passive along w/ 750-800 mdef makes sleep fail like 8/10.
The rest is heavily broken. BSpS is heaviy broken.Whoever says mattack has little effect, PLEASE remember sleeps, silence, root, etc don't figure sqrt but plain mattack. So having 10k effective mattack is not that hard at all. This said UD w/ 5k mdef is like joke.

All in all this game reminds me a lot, these days, of noobie RTS games. Where you tech up and build a billion of the super unit late game. No talent, nothing special, just broken units fighting eachother. It's boring. Mass pvp doesn't even close in on eachother anymore. People stand ten paces apart and nuke nuke nuke. Or maybe bow bow bow, but even archers seem to be growing weaker.
Picked a class based on pvp ability? Well I doubt you picked it knowing how NCsoft would change the character chronicles and chronicles later. Back in Prelude it certainly wasn't strong. Back before the stun nerf many players couldn't even land a hit on me, let alone do much damage when they did. It's interesting that the game has developed into such a quick everyone is dead battle. A few nukes, no fights last longer than a few minutes.
My point with this post was merely one thing...for awhile I believed that nukers were simply overpowered, if not by skills than by lack of counter buffers. Now I can see I was wrong, and the class is clearly broken. I broke 1200 in patk, pdef, and mdef with over 350 critrate and fire dance. You couldnt ask for a more stacked melee...and its meaningless to debuffs cast at such speed. I am...disappointed perhaps. Daggers were less broken, at least they had to make it up next to you. This...just seems sad. Regardless, I'll sub nuker and it makes me sad. Archers looked like much more fun to play. Maybe that's it. You can't even pick a class for enjoyment...you have to pick it for being the most broken. Oh well, I can deal with that :)
You know, broken? Like when you play Risk and some guy gets bored and suicides on his neighbor only to weaken them both to being destroyed. Or you're playing Poker and the value of the buyin is so cheap to somebody that the money is worthless. He quickly gambles high stakes constantly, willing to bluff every round and quickly loses all his cash to one individual who is now in a commanding lead. Broken is definately the word. It's going to be boring when all that are left is nukers/archers/2box buffers.

As an SE, my job in PvP is to buff.. then get out a group heal or two before dying. It's limited, boring, and discouraging.

Yes, PvP as a healer is boring and disappointing. It's not good when the part of the game which you lvl your character for is no fun and you can only watch the others go "lol pwnd". Until my sub is at a high enough lvl to participate in sieges and other pvp, I get my enjoyment solely from the PvE part of the game.

Sleep isn't effective, thats the thing. In 1v1 its Godly but in mass PvP, its nothing. NM set, Mental Aegis, Wisdom, WAKING SCROLLS....all great tools in dealing with sleep and available to ALL people. If you are in a smart group people will not let you sleep for more than 3 seconds. I think NC Soft added the party buff bar for this reason especially.
And archers are more dangerous than mages. Nukers cannot gain much pdef and their shield block rate sucks. However any character can get MAD magic resistance provided they have the support classes at their disposal. An Elven Elder does wonders to shields but I still feel a fleet of archers with magic resistance could drop a fleet of nukers with shield buffs. Not that it really matters to most of us whom are poor but overenchanting bows is MUCH more effective than overenchanting mage weapons because of the way magic damage is calculated. There is a nice post somewhere on these boards about it, I forget the name of the thread though.

Yes, that is true. Overenchanting a bow or a melee weapon does more for the damage output than overenchanting a mage weapon by the same amount. Mage damage mainly comes from skill levels (skill power).

As I have no stomach to go level another character up. I have just given up on PvP alltogether because of this brokenness. Strictly PvE for me.

As 99% of the game is PvE I am only missing that 1%. I would have liked otherwise, but somehow I am still addicted to the game. Besides it will probably be faster to make a omgpwn UBER class flavour of the chronicle sub then a reroll.
Mind you this will take at least a year or so. So my sub will be C6 flavoured uberness.

I went BD cause I love the BW heavy and DC heavy textures on female human mystic! BD isn't as fun as prophet, but it's kinda fun when people laugh at my dance =)

Who gives a ****, play what's fun, not what owns, there will always be someone stronger (IE: people who bot toons for PvP, etc,etc). So rolling for PvP is a waste of time. Beside, 99.99999% of the game is grinding, seriously. The only people who PvP more than grind are either No-graders or botters.
Go go BD subclass, with -10 con! I'll get one shot in PvP, but that's why I'm a [censored] carbear =)
