I guess myself and many others will not be getting eye patches anytime soon.
I am not sure why the recipe doesnt drop off a mob. I will not pay exhorbitant prices to the castle owners for a recipe. Why NCSoft decided that castle/clan hall owners can make the recipes is beyond me.
Try buying an eye patch now. So do we have to wait for C5 for NCSoft to correct this mismanagement of resources. It seems that only the wealthy get all the benefits. And yes, I am whining. I am also keeping track of those who want to take advantage of my poverty now. Later on there will retribution.
is it confirmed that those recipes can't be fished up?
if it simply is a rare item and only comes from a certain level of fish expertise (like say expertise 10 only or something) it is possible it is simply being missed.
not to say that NCSoft didn't screw the pooch here. you only have to look at the requirements to craft dyes to see that. hm, lemmee think, pay 150k ish in aa per dye from the merchant of mammon OR fish for 2 hours PER dye for the mats plus buy 10 recipes. oh yeah, and those recipes cost like 50k to 150k each at the cheapest I've seen them. gee, THAT'S a tough decision.
actually, my complain isn't with that. my complaint is with the way the loot table is set up for the fish you catch. past a certain point, you no longer get the more basic mats, greater fish oil, thin bones, fish scales, fish gems, instead you get the improved versions. this is all well and good, until you realize that those potion recipes you've got, well, they're ABSOLUTELY useless, as they require the basic mats, not the improved ones. sure, you could buy the mats. NOT. again, you'd just be better off buying the **** potions outright from the npc stores and players at that point. (though, I can see the other side here as well. by having the basic mats fished up by lower players exclusively, they HAVE given the new players a neato way to make some adena. )
NCSoft needs to make a decision here. if the want dyes and potions made from common craft, it needs to be more accessable. as it stands, fishing only really serves 2 purposes. to expand your trade and recipe book (for dwarves), or to make accessories so you can sell them for outrageous prices. (saw an eye patch being sold for 100 million the other day. sad thing is, I'm sure some sucker will buy it.)
No amount of fishing on PTS or on the lives has yielded a recipe other than the oil recipes so we're lead to believe that indeed you cannot fish them. Untill someone gets those recipes and posts a SS of it I will say that the only way is by buying from a Clan Hall or a Castle.

Well.. the only recipes our clan hall has (and this is a Giran Clan Hall) are 2 hairpins, some ghp, hairchange, magic attack and melee attack, +4-4 dyes.
I wonder if Aden or the new castles have anything different?
our Aden hall has Hairpin and Maiden's hairpin recipes, along with the usual potion/dye/hairchange ones. i heard someone say gludin hall spawns the pirate eyepatch recipe, but havent found one ingame myself yet :P
What must one do to get two of those recs?
Suck up to a castle lord?
As far as I know those aren't obtainable through clan halls...?
you can get them from item creation, in our hall on devianne the hairpin recipes cost 110k adena, with a 140k adena fee per day for keeping creation on... however, the limited people who can purchase and resell them has inflated prices just a little, along with limited spawns; they spawn one at a time, once every hour or so... same with potion dye and hairchange recipes. Other than owning a hall or having a generous hall owner on your server the best you can do is suck up or dish out some hefty piles of cash :P
and on a side note, baby pet (cougar in our case) tickets and town-specific soe's also spawn there, those town soe's cost 38k each from our hall, cheaper to teleport >.>
